Life can be...just wow. Lessons learned from my hiatus: it's ok to be vulnerable with those you care about, the people who love you will always remain in your life and be true to what you want.

The woman identified as Adaline stood stiffer than the strongest drink he had ever consumed, her militaristic training obvious in the way she stood, the way she looked down at him with stoic curiosity(or so he assumed), the dutiful tone in which she greeted Vance. She appeared to be the perfect soldier, someone who would follow their orders to the ends of the Empire and beyond because it was their solemn oath to do so. The assumptions that ran through Igusuki's mind were thrown aside when Vance spoke after her curt greeting to the Quality Control officer(bah):
"Kichirou is now caught up to speed on the op report I just sent you. I'll need you to get him down to the training room and up to speed on the latest traveling protocols." A dark brow rose in confusion.
"Has traveling changed that much since I left?"
"Things change faster than the speed of light when it comes to the STS. Thankfully you'll have one of our best guiding you through the changes." He leaned forward, elbows resting heavily on the desk as he continued:
"You make sure, Adaline, that you take care of business and then leave. This should be a clean recon. No engaging enemies, no screwing with the time-space continuum, not anything that could remotely put us in hot water with the Circle. We have them breathing down our necks as it is and we don't need any other trouble brought to their attention." The last bit of that statement was rushed, piquing the reinstated field agent's curiosity. He wouldn't have a chance to ask nor would he dare to inquire.
"Get back there as soon as you can. I'll expect a report from you both in the next two days appraising me of your progress." With a wave of his massive hand, the duo were dismissed back into the waiting area.
"So..." Igusuki trailed off with an awkward half-smile.
"Apparently I don't know how to travel any longer. Care to show me what updates have been put in place? I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into before plunging back into field work all over again."
Sorry for the delay! Things got hectic on my end.

So for this serial killer, here's what I was thinking:
-He's sort of a "hired gun" that gets contracted to take down corporations by eliminating the key players within the company. Basically it's a process of eliminating the competition...quite literally xD
-The killer is contracted by a rival corporation to eliminate a separate company from Ujohiri holdings, but the contractor adds a hefty bonus if Ujohiri holdings is destroyed as well, putting a target on Kaz and Juntao along with Ellie, Tyler and anyone else who could be used as witnesses or leverage.
-We could totally share the killer or one of us could take over full time?
He chuckled at the CFO comments, retorting with:
"I doubt your work is as droll or as boring as mine. At least you have a chance to work with animals that show some appreciation for what you do. I deal with cantankerous old men and women who always are wondering why we aren't making billions instead of hundreds of millions a month. We do something good, they ask why we couldn't have done better. It's exasperating really." A momentary silence fell between the two, Ellie groaning slightly(out of exhaust?) before she asked if he was alright mid-sip of his coffee. Swallowing the liquid(ow) as fast as he could, he rapidly excused his behavior:
"Forgive me, yes, things are fine. It's just been a long couple of days. Those old, grumpy individuals I just mentioned were questioning a major purchase we made a few days ago and I had to do some late nights to create a presentation specifically illustrating why our latest deal was in our best interest." Well, that was the partial truth anyhow. Did Ellie REALLY need to know that he received a creepy voicemail that was conveniently left on his phone right after they had seen the body? No, she didn't. But...but Tyler would need to know. He was an officer, someone who could maybe trace the call? It felt odd to have a desire to share information with Tyler behind Ellie's back, but what was the point in worrying her? She had enough to deal with. Besides, it could have just been a strange prank call. Easier to just put it out of mind and either approach Tyler with the information or go down to the police station to give information to that officer who recorded their statements. Yes, yes that's what he would do. In the meantime, he would feel much better by deflecting the subject to something else.
"I do have to say that Macon looked just as beautiful as the day I left...well, the cherry blossoms downtown looked just as beautiful. Nice to see that those plants are still being kept up in that condition." It was then that he had a sudden, probably rash idea:
"Do you think..." Was it too soon to ask this? Maybe, maybe not. The worst that could happen could be him getting shut down.
"Do you think that you'd be willing to accompany me to dinner tomorrow? Downtown? I noticed a new steakhouse that looks rather classy for that part of town. We could have dinner, walk along the cherry blossom gardens and just...I don't know, just talk?" He chuckled.
"Goodness that sounds sappy, but you know what I mean. It would be a nice evening."

Sitting back in the tattered recliner, he grimaced slightly at the news report. He wasn't supposed to be found yet. Not until he released the documents. Then again, maybe it was a stroke of luck that the Ujohiri boy showed up when he had. It would make things potentially even easier for the end-goal to be achieved. The grimace turned into a smile. A broad, gleaming grin.
"I can see through you. Through you all." He whispered, the grin only growing larger.
Ok so obviously that's a vision that Yerbol is having thanks to the nightmare lands. Feel free to have Ari react however you wish :)
We can probably resolve the vision in the next post or two? That way they can join the fight against the multiple Sotos xD

The "nightmare" in nightmare lands didn't seem to materialize all at once, but instead crept slowly around the traveling party, echoes and whispers of horrendous atrocities intermingling with pleas for help and relief that were both soft and piercingly loud at the same time. It was difficult to classify the sensations in his mind, which was disorienting to the Champion as they traversed through the land of waking horrors(a new title which he would bestow upon the place...sounded more poetic). What made their environment even more disconcerting was that the land itself seemed to entrap them with forest choked trails that hardly allowed for one to see past the first or second row of trees that lined the paths they took. Now and then there would be a clearing, but those clearings featured branching paths that wound in every direction, forcing Yerbol more than once to ask aloud if Voldon knew where he was going. Voldon had ignored the first couple of interrogatives, but upon the third, the Master whipped his head around and glared silently.

That in and of itself was a nightmare.

Thankfully Cheriss was a bit more on the talkative side, breaking he and Aria's shared dread with a brief recounting of what she had endured by coming to these lands herself. Her story sounded like one that needed to be told in a quiet, stress free environment without the potential of demonic spirits(?) derailing them from finding Manus, although he did comment to his spouse that her personality traits made a bit more sense when considering the new piece of information shared. The party lapsed back into silence after the brief interlude from the spirits, which had suddenly become much quieter, so much so that Yerbol could hear their steps crunching on the pebbly earth and fallen leaves.
"That seems...odd." He mumbled, looking to Aria with concern as they reached a square shaped clearing, although this one was different; instead of several circular branching paths, there were three distinct paths, one extending north, east and west. At the beginning of each were stone columns arranged to look like a massive doorway, although one could easily step around the makeshift portal. Maybe there was some kind of symbolic significance behind them? An initiation maybe? Or-

A flicker out of the corner of his right eye. Another.
"Faceless!" He called out, Voldon agreeing by snapping his saber to life just in time to deflect a cloaked blow from an attacker, who suddenly found themselves thrown against the nearest tree, spine cracked in multiple places by the sheer force of Voldon's burst of energy. Yerbol charged to Voldon's side, blocking two blows from a dual wielding Faceless whose eyes glimmered menacingly in the luminescence of their locked sabers. Bending his knees, Yerbol then sprung forward, pushing the attacker backwards before the Champion slashed across and down the torso. As the body hit the ground, he thrust the other end of his saber backwards, the silvery blue blade finding it's once charging target. The brash tactic of running up to a powerful Force user reminded Yerbol once more that Manus had essentially trained an army of suicide squadrons, bodies to throw against his opponents as he played at his own angles to get what he needed.

He needed to be stopped.

But a more immediate concern was a flash of panic darting across his mind, Yerbol surveying the clearing as quickly as he could before finding his wife on her back, attacker viciously attempting to finish her life. He sprinted towards the Faceless, free hand thrusting outward to push the attacker backwards before Aria finishing her off. Helping her back up, he asked:
"Are you hurt?" Her assurances didn't help, especially the last one. He would have to ask her about that when they weren't in a land filled with apparent demonic entities.

Not but a few moments later was there an order barked out to follow Soto, Voldon and Cheriss heading down the path leading directly north of the clearing. With no other option that would lead to a productive outcome, the duo hurried after the Masters as fast as they could despite the increasingly difficult nature of the path. It wound sharply almost every several feet, the decline growing steeper every step forward with seemingly no end in sight to the descent. Whatever natural light they had to guide them previously was diminishing rapidly, replaced by torches glowing dimly that were mounted on the sides of trees that flanked the path. Finally, the duo found themselves on a level path that led straight for a few feet before revealing a massive cave opening that extended at least seventy feet into the air.
"Ari, hold on." His breath coming in labored gasps, he looked forward to find nothing but pitch darkness and absolute, certain quiet.
"Does this..." After taking a deep breath, he finished:
"Does this remind you of the tomb Renso hid out in? Or basically every other place we've had to go t-" When he looked over to Aria, there was something...different. Her eyes. They were...darker? They were almost tainted with a shade of crimson, which was never there before.
"You ok?" He stepped a bit closer to find that her arms were laced with inky black patterns that traced up her arms to her exposed shoulders, running across her chest and torso.
"What..." Her battle gear was different from the norm. Black chestpiece, black pants, crimson colored sabers lit and gripped tightly in each hand. Her gaze bored into him, a sneer crossing her features. That facial expression, one of disdain, arrogance...he hadn't seen that in a long time.
"What are you doing?" He whispered quietly, hands trembling as his saber hilt vibrated. She took a step forward, her normally calming voice taking on a menacing tone:
"I should have ended this a long time ago." Another step.
"One of you died in that tomb and I almost let you drag me down with her. Balance? Harmony?" She titled her head back and cackled, sabers twirling in her readied hands before she continued:
"All this time I let you lead me down a path that my father warned me about. You made me weak, just like you, just like that pathetic excuse of a sister that I so happily destroyed on Korriban."
"This isn't you, Ari, this can't be you."
"Oh but it is! Don't you see this? For the first time in a LONG time I finally realize my potential. Fighting here, in this place has just..." She took a deep breath, imbibing the malevolence around her as she continued:
"Reinvigorated me. Made me see how pathetic the Qyaari, the Masters, YOU are." A sardonic giggle.
"It's time that I end you, to move on from this sham of a life and continue what the Sith Lords had planned for me: absolute and unlimited control of my own destiny!" Her sabers were extended forward as she slowly made her way towards Yerbol.
"No...Ari, please, don't make me fight you!"
"You don't have to fight! Things will be much easier if you don't." Yerbol gripped his saber tightly in hand, blades coming to life. He had to incapacitate her somehow, get her back to normal. If he could.

The cavern that Voldon and Cheriss entered was all too familiar to the former, the Master cautioning his colleague in arms:
"Don't know if you came here during your travels, but these caverns are wrought with traps. Not a surprise that Soto brought us down here." They had made their way past the first hundred feet or so of darkness unscathed, Voldon assuring that Cheriss light would be plentiful, his promise coming to fruition when they emerged into a rectangular shaped stone chamber with brightly burning torches and coal baskets lining the walls. More paths stretched in varying direction, but at least they could see what was in front of them.
"The path ahead was the easiest to traverse."
"Don't think you'll make it that far, my dear." Soto's lithe form emerged from the entranceway to their left, a coy smirk crossing her features.
"I've been looking forward to this, you know. Ever since Manus freed me from that hole you buried me in, I've been waiting, watching for the perfect moment to strike you down. A bonus that you brought the old maid with you. Two of you dead will make our job that much easier."
"Get out of our way, Jean. For your own health." A gleeful laugh, Soto pointing to the opposite entranceway where another Soto appeared, the doppleganger retorting:
"This is where your lives end, Qyaari. For good." A third Soto made herself visible ahead of them. A low growl came from the Master's throat, asking Cheriss:
"Which one do you want to kill first?"
Haha, thanks for asking! I'm good, thanks. Had to use this weekend to recover from the insanity that was last week. Churning out posts today and tomorrow!
Aw, I'm sure it'll go well. Living on your own for the first time can be very...odd at first, seeing as you're used to having people around, but trust me, it's AWESOME. I mean, not to say that living with people isn't, but there is something to having your own place :)

Oh man, so many ideas, but also so many papers/assignments from school(I'm telling you, I'm going to scream for joy when I'm done in a few months xD). Get you a post probably tomorrow?

OH! Did you get your computer fixed? I know you were having some trouble with that.
Perfect storm of papers to grade, schoolwork and other obligations just hit today(plus I wasn't feeling great yesterday). Will get you a post as soon as I can.

(Love Adaline's no nonsense demeanor already. I can tell that she and Iggy are going to have some very interesting conversations xD)
Obviously I'll fill in more as we go, but there's a start :)
The marble courtyard fountain blossomed brilliantly with hues of red, orange, yellow and silver at twenty second intervals. Precision mixed with beauty. That was the overriding precedent that swallowed the entire courtyard. Ornately carved benches stood flanking the fountain at all four major directions with walkways extending towards different parts of the complex that was the Spatio-Temporal Service(or Agency as some refer to it). As the silvery droplets turned blood red, Igusuki or "Iggy" Kichirou removed his right arm from the full glass pane window, wiping away the smudge that his suit sleeve had left with his other sleeve only to make the smudge worse. A snort of laughter came, dark brown irises examining the now opaque spot on the window and acknowledged mentally that this could have been interpreted as a microcosm of how things had gone the past few months. He rolled his shoulders back, suit jacket bunching up momentarily before settling on the broader than average(but not too broad) shoulders of his almost six foot frame(by an inch!) and adjusting the monocular HUD situated about half an inch in front of his eye. Other than a report of rain in the lower right hand corner of his HUD that disappeared as quickly as it appeared, his surroundings remained largely undisturbed as he took a seat in an overstuffed leather chair that crinkled audibly upon his sitting in it.
"Sometime soon..." He mumbled the words that the STS general's assistant had told him when he was ushered into the room forty five minutes ago. This waiting did nothing but prolong the churning from within his gut, fully aware that a meeting with Kyle "Brickwall" Vance normally was for either disciplinary reasons or an assignment that was top level clearance, First Circle's eyes only and all that. Not that everyone knew the second purpose of Vance's meetings, but he got familiar with the latter a couple of times thanks to an affiliation with a few operatives who had helped him climb the ranks.

Well, former operatives.

Shaking off the potential wallowing that threatened to envelop him(again), he blew out a sigh, mentally commanding his HUD to run a news stream. A manicured and coiffed Nancy Yu delivered more successes across the Terran Galactic Empire. Thwarting alien pirates, smuggling and traffic across the Main Square were all topics that Nancy covered expertly and quickly, two traits that those within the Empire valued almost above all others. There was, however, one report that he flagged for later about reports of slight tremors occurring outside Galaxity walls, but for citizens to not be alarmed and that it was normal "tectonic" movement. Igusuki would see if-

"Kichirou! Sorry for the wait." The barrel chested man rolled into his office, suit buttons jangling as he sat behind the massive wooden desk that dominated the eastern part of the room.
"You wanted to see me, sir?"
"Indeed I did." A slight twitch of his grey mustache.
"Something has come to our attention. Something very...strange." The general didn't normally sound frightened, but Igusuki thought he could hear a trace of the foreign emotion creep into the older man's voice.
"Wha-"
"The team you were sent back with to the 1920's to apprehend Buloxi, the smuggler turned fanatic? You remember?"

Every night.

"Yes."
"One of our mission control teams received a distress call from a STS transmitter. Code zero two one, which is a call for recon." Clearing his throat, Vance leaned forward, stocky arms weighing on the desk as he continued:
"Putting you on that mission was a mistake. A stupid one on my part, but you were the one that came back alive with a mission report that stated ALL of your team was wiped out. I need you to go back and make sure that's the case."
"I'm sorry?"
"I'm sending you back to the 1920's to investigate the distress call."
"I thought I was stripped of my field license...sir."
"Consider it temporarily reinstated. And I'm not sending you back there without someone competent to make sure you don't screw this one up either. She'll be coming in to introduce herself in a minute."
