Life can be...just wow. Lessons learned from my hiatus: it's ok to be vulnerable with those you care about, the people who love you will always remain in your life and be true to what you want.

Oh, fair point! I was thinking just humans for now and then we can build up the universe as we go?

Yep, that's what I was thinking! Feel free to throw in your twists as we go because I've got a couple lined up ;)
No worries if you don't want it to be Ellie calling. I've got a few ideas for that phone call, so feel free to skip to the next morning/afternoon :)
There was a pregnant pause between Kaz's question and Ellie's response, prompting a wellspring of anxiety to gush in his mind. He shouldn't have asked her out to dinner, he should've just tried a bit more small talk, hired a taxi to take him back to his car and drove off with hopefully her phone number and an invitation to coffee later. That's EXACTLY what he should have done and now she's probably thinking that he was trying to gloss over their past, to-

She accepted.

He tried to suppress the wide smile that crossed his face, but he couldn't help it. He was genuinely happy she had taken him up on the offer, even going so far as to feel his face flush slightly at the implication she insulated about his invitation.
"Ellie, come on, you know I'm not...not to say that you aren't attractive..." Shut up. Just shut up and be graceful for once in your life.
"What I meant to say was..." He took a breath before continuing:
"I'm flattered you would take me up on the offer and I'm looking forward to it. I really am. Thank you." His phone buzzed once more, but thankfully no ominous called id, but instead a reminder text from his personal assistant that his last earnings report wasn't completed before he left and the board was "anticipating it's arrival". Blowing out a sigh, he showed Ellie the text, proclaiming:
"You see the things I have to deal with now? It's tempting to run off to the nearest island off the coast somewhere. Set up a nice hut, pina coladas everywhere..." He tapped a finger thoughtfully on his chin.
"Although I don't know how one could get a pina colada machine to work without electricity, but hey, we are all entitled to have strange parameters in our dreams, aren't we?" Realizing that this comment was straight off the heels of her suggestive one, he quickly diverted back to his excuse to leave:
"I'll need to get back to the hotel...well, if you can call it that. I'm actually two blocks away from Tuscana. There's an office building that apparently got converted into an apartment complex? Whoever bought the place had some taste and upgraded the interior before plastering his advertisements all over VRBO. He sold Macon as a town filled with 'southern charm'. I suppose I can't really argue with the description, but maybe he could've included that a block or two further is the abandoned junkyard...or maybe that's a part of the charm?" He was babbling. He needed to leave.
"Right, so...I'll call a taxi to take me back to my car. Shall I pick you up around eight?" Knowing that he didn't have reservations, he added:
"Or whenever they have an opening. We'll see if they're willing to let two locals slip in." Placing his phone back in his pocket, he gave Ellie an appreciative smile.
"Minus the strange experience, it was so good to see you again. I'm really looking forward to dinner." He placed the mug on the table in front of him before walking next to her, placing a hand on her shoulder gently.
"Here's hoping we can both get some rest. I ah..." He cleared his throat.
"If you can't sleep tonight, cause of..you know, what we saw, call me. I won't mind." He spotted a pen and notepad on the nearest part of the kitchen counter and scrawled his phone number on one of the sticky notes before handing it to Ellie.
"See you tomorrow." Looking into her deep blue irises, her warm, kind-

No. Not now, not for a long time, maybe not ever again.

Before he left, he added sheepishly:
"Do me a favor and text me so I know what number to call for tomorrow."

The cab didn't take long to arrive and within the span of twenty minutes, Kaz was back in the "generously appointed" seven hundred square foot apartment. After a quick change into black lounge pants and a grey t-shirt, he checked his ever growing inbox on his laptop. Other than the normal commotion that the company provided, there were three specific message that stuck out. One was from Juntao, another from his sister Aiko and the final from an unknown sender with the subject line "Earnings Report". His first impulse was to mark the email as spam, but the fact that it said "earnings report" was far too coincidental for his tastes.
"I'm going to regret this." His mouse pointer hovered over the "open" button for a few seconds before he shook his head.
"No. No way." He marked it as spam and then quickly marked it as "delete forever". Within a moment, the email was gone. It probably WAS just spam(he had seen spam marked with things like that in the past, seeing as he was a financial officer), but the body incident had him spooked. To better things, he decided.

The email from Juntao was brief, mentioning a recap of the board meeting before wishing him well and to remind him that the annual Stakeholders dinner was in a week and that it would be "beneficial for him" if he showed up. Choosing to ignore that comment, he opened up the email from his sister, which was simply a picture of her and her boyfriend Ethan standing on top of a massive boulder. The caption read: "See? He's keeping me safe and high! Love you!" Chuckling, he closed the email along with his computer and settled against the headboard of his bed, eyes beginning to droop. It had been a long day and tomorrow would prove to be even more interesting. He did, of course, have pressing business to attend to and would do so in the morning. For now, however...

"Kaz?" He stirred slightly, but Ellie was having none of it.
"Kaz, baby, get up. We're going to be late."
"No...no we'll be juuuuuust fine." He drew her closer, guiding her head to his chest. With a giggle, she propped herself up on an elbow,
looking down at him with mock surprise.
"So what you're saying is you DON'T want to see me in a bathing suit?" His eyes opened wider.
"I never said that. I just said that we won't be late. The others don't have any sense of time. They think that on time is showing up twenty minutes after the agreed upon time anyhow." She slapped him on the chest.
"Come on, it's the day after prom and we don't have to go back home for another TWO DAYS."
"Mmm, true. No parents, no authority figures...just us."
"And other people, Kaz. Other people who you like. Other people you call friends."
"But what If I like hanging out with one particular friend?" She rolled her eyes.
"I was talking about Kevin."
"Of course you were. Because Kevin is the love of your life, right?"
"Didn't you know that? I thought I told you this a long time ago." She chuckled, kicking him as she added:
"Come on, Kaz. It'll be fun." He smiled slightly, sitting up before placing a hand on her bare back and kissing her gently on the lips.
"I suppose. As long as you're buying the cotton candy. That street vendor yesterday was just too kind." Another giggle.

It wasn't the streaming rays of moonlight that filtered into his bedroom that woke him up, but rather his troublesome cellular device, which buzzed multiple times before he was aware of it's ringing. He slowly reached to the nightstand and looked to see who could be calling in the early morning hours.
All sounds good. I'll take control for a bit? I've got some plans for some of Kaz's family that involves the serial killer. Kaz has no idea what's coming xD
So Manus IS a strategist after all, which means he's going to be slippery for the next post or two. Feel free to have the Faceless squadrons wiped out in your post while Voldon does battle with Manus.

Countering Aria's blows were difficult, seeing as his natural instincts were to go on the offensive with every dodge and parry, which meant that he was constantly having to move and contort his saber at unnatural angles to compensate for where his body and weapon WANTED to go. What Yerbol feared the most was that her stance, her style was much different than usual, so much so that he was nicked a couple of times in the right shoulder and arm. After the third blow that connected across his right thigh, he realized why he was having such a difficult time fending her off: she was a Sith again. The chill of the tomb blew onto his neck, the years of accumulated bloodshed by Sadow weighing on his shoulders, the sudden loss of Lysa coursing through him...all of it came back to his mind as he weaved between yet another flurry of attacks.
"Ari, LISTEN TO ME! STOP!" She wasn't listening nor could she until he incapacitated her. He had to, somehow. The only way he could think of at that very moment was to throw his left hand forward, summoning whatever energy he had to push her backwards. Instead of pushing her back, however, she flew several feet into the air before crashing to the ground below. He took a couple of steps forward to hopefully pin her down and do...well, he didn't know, but something!

Thankfully his ill-conceived plan was thwarted by a silvery barrier that blocked him from going any further, a command to release "them both" uttered by an incorporeal presence spurred the appearance of black tendrils awfully similar to those that ran across Aria. The mass of tentacles began to undulate wildly as the voice shouted once more, which then led to the tentacles forming the shape of a person, but there were no defining features of the shape; instead, however, there was an aura of menace, of desperate evil that wanted to cling to whatever vestige of life it had remaining. Otherworldly noises came from the "mouth" of the creature, Yerbol wanting to end the noise as fast as possible and charged ahead in vain to try and sever the monster in half. Rather than achieving the desired outcome, a violent shock coursed through his body when he got within a foot or so of his target, dropping him to his knees in time for him to watch a Togruta acrobatically leap into the fray along with a pair of gleaming claws that sundered the presence in half. With the threat neutralized, the Togruta helped Yerbol to his feet, the latter uttering a mumbled "thanks" before he, the Togruta and a massive humanoid slash alien creature with skin colored a sickly yellow huddled over Aria, who was beginning to regain consciousness. Her once tainted eyes were back to their normal dark, vibrant hues and her apparel was restored to what she was wearing before. Ashara made her name known and helped Aria sit up, who apparently knew her from some time before he and Aria had ever met.
"Ari, I-" His touch was met with vehement rejection, prompting a deep pang...of, well, a mixed bag of emotions. Helplessness, agitation, frustration, guilt, surprise and probably some other things all mangled together in his singular reaction. She apologized, to which Yerbol just simply nodded. They would talk of what happened some other time when Manus wasn't trying to take over the galaxy.

With formalities out of the way, the party made their way into the cave, Yerbol grateful for the assistance that these two would provide. Although it was odd and quite "convenient" that they showed up before something awful had happened, he had to wonder what their true purpose was. Hopefully their true intent was to help, but something nagged at the Champion as they strode further down into the now brighter cave interior. Something about Ashara just didn't...feel right. Or maybe his senses were off(obviously) from their recent visionary experience. It didn't matter now, seeing as they could hear sounds of sabers clashing not too far off. When the party arrived at the same entrance the Masters had earlier, they witnessed what could easily be described as a display of the best saber tactics in the galaxy. Soto and Voldon parried, dodged, twirled, clashed and switched forms seamlessly as they attempted to wrest the upper hand from one another. There were two other bodies clad in Faceless armor, one of which Cheriss stood over momentarily before jumping into the fray with Voldon. With Cheriss and Voldon attacking both sides of her flank, Soto had nothing left to do but retreat back towards an exit across from the entranceway where the party stood witness. A few moments later and Cheriss had successfully brought Soto to the ground, Voldon planting a foot on the woman's chest.
"You could've been so much better." Voldon quietly confessed to the hissing Soto before plunging his saber deep into her thoracic cavity, the sickeningly sweet scent of cauterized flesh filling the air as he dug the saber in further, screams of torment filling the chamber for a few brief seconds before silence descended.
"Instead of standing there, you could've helped." Voldon looked back at the party with annoyance before adding:
"We take this passage up to the inner Chamber. That's where Manus will be. Stay on your guard." He looked to Cheriss for a moment.
"Happy to see your reinforcements arrived. We'll need the help."

With the party combined, they traversed the ever sloping path upwards, silence exchanged between all members of the party except for a few side conversations that Yerbol chose to not be a part of. He had learned from their previous encounters with massively powerful Force users that he needed to focus intensely to have the slightest chance of coming out victorious. He thought he could feel Aria prodding him through their bond, but he chose not to respond. Hopefully she could understand his desire for muteness.

They found themselves in front of gilded golden doors that, when pushed, opened up easily to reveal a similarly laid out chamber to the one beneath, except this area was smaller in scope and featured the same ornately carved doors that they had just entered through. In the center of the room were three Voss in robes, their eyes closed, legs crossed in meditative positions. Behind them stood Manus with a smirk of triumph enhancing his already smug features.
"To think that you would kill Jean so handily, Voldon. I'm surprised."
"Enough of your games, Manus. Let the Voss go."
"No, no, don't change the subject, Voldon." He moved to the right, his saber hilt jangling against ebony colored durasteel greaves.
"Jean was a soft, warm woman who you just...cut down without a second thought. I would think a former lover would have had more compassion." Voldon's neck muscles tightened, veins nearly bursting on his forehead, but didn't speak.
"Ah well. She served her purpose, didn't she? A good warm up for the show." He flicked his right wrist, sending all three Voss flying backwards, their bodies thudding onto the ground.
"Isn't that amazing? Their trances are so deep that even a powerful burst of Force energy can't disturb them."
"What have you done to them?"
"Me? Nothing!" He held out a hand.
"No, no, scratch that, I DID so something: I provided them with motivation. If they didn't want to see this..." He waved to indicate the temple.
"Crumble to the ground in tiny bits, they were to find the location of two very important people."
"Who?"
"You REALLY think I want you to know? Really? The famed strategist Manus Vo giving away a mission objective? Come now, Voldon, we may be on opposing sides now, but my tactics haven't changed. All you need to know as of now is that this place is going to be your tomb. Along with all the other precious 'Qyaari' you brought with you." The mystics were thrown out of the room with another flick o the wrist, all doors in every direction slamming shut.
"There are so many of you, but just one of me. Think you handle the odds?" Yerbol ignited his saber and leaped forward, Voldon shouting after him:
"HE'S GOT COUNTERMEASURES! STOP!" Before Yerbol could get very far, flames shot up from the ground from hidden vents embedded in the floors. Manus chuckled as he flung Yerbol to the left, the Champion clattering to the ground. As he stood up, Manus uttered a boast:
'This temple is just chock FULL of surprises. I wonder if you can get through them... to me." He stood in the center of the room as flames gushed in front of him, forming a barrier which would incinerate any who dared to cross. Just then, the doors to both left and right entranceways flung open, two squadrons of Faceless streaming into the room.
"Cheriss, lead the others against the Faceless! I'll deal with Manus!" Before she could object, he told her with solemnity:
"This is what the Force guided me to. Don't stand in the way."
A fair point on canon characters. I was thinking about pulling Doc and Rusk in from the Knight storyline. They'll make an appearance at Voldon's funeral and hopefully we can find some way to get them involved. I actually thought for a moment: "Why can't be bring in Carth?" And then I realized that he's been dead for a long time, so there's that xD

Yep, Revan and the Exile. I don't know what to do with the Exile because the canon has her dead, but Revan alive. Maybe we have them both alive somehow? Ah well, we'll figure out that as we go. Onward!
I'm totally alright with the simultaneous visions, seeing as the psychological impact of doubting what they see could prove to be interesting plot points to exploit down the line. I can just HEAR the disdain in Ari's voice towards herself. Poor thing! Ah well, they're our characters, which means they're kind of forced to put up with all sorts of awful things xD

Ashara! Wow, wasn't expecting that, which makes it a welcome surprise. Wouldn't mind trying to incorporate more canon cameos down the line, seeing as we've only incorporated...what, three characters? I think? (Elara, Saresh, Kira) Ashara MIGHT be a good fill in for Champion if/when Yerbol and/or Aria are put up for the title of Master(and after this, I feel like it won't be TOO long. I mean, come on, they've taken down Bracknell, Illesia and the Xiis and now Manus?! Give em some credit where credit's due!)

Alright, so before we go ANY further, I have to ask: are we at all willing to incorporate a larger plot angle involving Revan? Because you probably figured out that Manus' end goal (as he will reveal in the next two posts) is to find out where Revan went and basically mine him(or her if you wish) for information about what he sought to discover, seeing as Manus fully believes that to establish his vision of a "Faceless" Force, he would require power beyond anything he could find in the galaxy and that sort of thing was Revan's specialty(*cough STAR FORGE *cough*). If you'd like, we could have that be our next "Act" or we could shelve it for another time. Because Manus is gonna die. Voldon is going to make sure of that xD

Right! Sorry for not giving you more of a lead in, but I was pressed for time. I was thinking that maybe Adaline could walk Iggy through the basics of field work? It's been a while for him, so a good review of shooting, traveling protocol, etc might be good. No worries on getting too specific if not desired. Maybe we can go back and forth for a couple of posts to let the characters talk to each other before heading back to the 1920's?

Also, any ideas on where you'd like to go once they get back to the 20's? Basically all I've got right now is that the location is 1920's Manhattan. Prohibition era, roaring 20's, all that jazz.
Excellent! Looking forward to reading :)

Oh right, uh...how about you do your thing and then I'll start getting us closer to Manus, then you get us there?
