Daryn was pretty relieved as Psylocke stated that there might not even be a fight. He also felt a bit stupid for assuming the others would be dangerous. Still he mentally prepared himself for the worst, as things probably would go straightforward. Daryn brushed his hands against the pieces of metal stored on his suit, just confirming that he was ready to use his powers if needed, cause when it came down to it, his mutant powers were the best move in his repertoire.
Daryn then followed Psylocke as she led the group out of the conference room. He was glad that he had a guide, as the hangar was another part of Serval Industries that he had no idea where it was. Once in the hangar, Daryn was impressed by the jet. They had said it was a back-up jet, yet it was far nicer than any aircraft Daryn had ever seen. As he entered the jet he was once again impressed by the inner part of the plane; definitely luxury. Daryn got into a very comfortable window seat, then the jet took off.
During the ensuing flight, Daryn went over the various ways that this mission could go. A lot of them were very bad for Daryn, but then again, a lot were just talking. Daryn then decided to just wing it and hope that his first mission goes well. By the time they were about to land, Daryn had mentally steeled himself ready for the mission. The jet set down next to a bigger jet, presumably the stolen one, as Psylocke restated their mission. Daryn exhaled slowly as he got out of his chair.
Daryn followed Psylocke down the ramp off the plane. He turned to her, “So, I forgot to ask. Who exactly are we looking for? I’m super new and don’t know anyone yet.” Yet again Daryn felt stupid, having not gone over his teammates files. That was yet another thing to add to his to do list after the mission.
Daryn had only been at Serval Industries for about two days and as such still had no idea where anything was. In fact he wasn’t sure where anything was in this entire state. The last time he had been to the east coast was on vacation as a child, and he didn’t really remember any part of that. It was all really overwhelming to Daryn, just as the idea of being a big superhero was. But Daryn was optimistic about being up to it, if he hadn’t he wouldn’t of signed that contract Serval had given him. He was really jumping in head first.
As Daryn made his way through the long hallways, he finally found what he was looking for, the conference room. Daryn’s presence had been requested in the conference room a while ago, and of course it seemed that he was the last one to arrive. He moved to open the door, only to pause and remember to put on his mask. Although some of the team were alright having no secret identity, Daryn still wanted some privacy. To that end, he slowly opened the door to the conference room and crept inside, praying no one would notice him, as he found a spot at the back of the room.
Luckily for Daryn, it seemed that no one noticed him. In fact it seemed that he was even a part of the team as Ms. Gardner had already begun explaining what their mission was. Apparently the rest of the team went rogue, so they were sending in the new guys. Daryn briefly wondered if he was up for this mission, before quickly deciding at least it wasn’t just him going. In fact, everyone else seemed really ready, as Daryn felt under dressed in his homemade black and orange hero costume. He wondered if he should see if Serval Industries could make him a better man.
As Daryn pondered this dilemma, another team member began speaking. She seemed familiar, maybe an X-Man? But what was more pressing was the mention that the rogues were skilled fighters. The inadequacy of a few years of Tae Kwon Do, became very apparent to Daryn. He didn’t really feel like dying on his first day with the team.
The question of how to actually deal with the other team members was raised by the cyborg girl. Daryn realized that he should be making an effort to learn everyone’s name. “So would they also be trying to incapacitate us? Or, are they going for the kill?” Daryn asked, while shifting his feet. Daryn had never really been in a fight that high stakes, and he didn’t really want to be in one. But, if that meant becoming an actual superhero, he would have to get used to it.

Throughout his life he has maintained a positive demeanour, always trying to find the best in things. Sometimes this makes him a pleasure to be around, while other times it can put people off, finding him a little creepy. However, Daryn doesn’t usually mind, he tends to accept people and things as they are. A by-product of this simple worldview is that Daryn isn’t very perceptive to what is going on around him, leading to him being awkward in a lot of social encounters. Daryn is becoming more aware of this, but he has no idea how to deal with it.
As Daryn makes friends easy, he also will step up immediately to defend him. Sometimes he gets the notion that he is a knight in shining armour, one who shall defend the innocent and punish the guilty. This worldview has contributed to his desire to become a superhero. It also made him see the world in black and white, seeing most people as all good or all evil. Needless to say this has caused him to been manipulated throughout his life. Yet somehow he is still willing to look for the best in people.

History
Why did you join X-Factor?: Daryn mainly joined X-Factor because he thought that he could do more. As an independent hero, he found that he was not accomplishing much in the way of making the world safer. He thought with a team he could make more a difference. The other major reason was the financial compensation. Daryn had a hard time providing for his son, something that infuriated him to no end. Not wanting to be a dead beat dad, Daryn was willing to try anything to be there for his son.
General History: Daryn was born the second child of Lucas and Billie Reid, in the city of Spokane, Washington. Daryn would only live there for two months before moving. His mother Billie had a job that required the family to relocated a lot, causing Daryn to have trouble making friends as a kid. The only person he was close to was his older brother Peter, as they were less than two years apart in age. One thing that was constant throughout the brothers’ youth was a love of video games and sports. It wasn’t too long before Peter joined a basketball team, while Daryn joined a football team.
Daryn quickly found that being a student athlete made it easier for him to connect with others, something he had been missing out on. Another thing he found out was that he was different than his fellow students. It began with spoons being bent out of shape, then progressed to warping the faucet on the sink. It quickly dawned on Daryn that he was a mutant. He was initially fearful of anyone finding out, swearing to never use his powers. For a few months he was able to hide his powers, never using them consciously.
That changed one day when Daryn was crossing the street, when a drunk driver came barrelling toward him. Acting on instinct, Daryn used his powers the repel the metal of the car back, saving his life. Unbeknown to Daryn, his brother had seen the whole incident. The next day, his parents sat Daryn down to talk about his powers. However, they weren’t angry, just accepting. They didn’t care that one son was human and the other a mutant. This revelation took a heavy weight off Daryn’s shoulders.
It was around this time that he began seeing a girl named Rita, with things getting pretty serious. Shortly after the start of that relationship the Avengers first appeared, repelling an alien invasion. This caused Daryn to get the idea in his head to become a superhero himself. Daryn then created the alter ego of the Blacksmith, hero to his local city.. He had only been patrolling the city for about a month when he got life-changing news. Rita was pregnant. Daryn immediately dedicated himself to being a father. Things were fine until a few months into the pregnancy, when Rita discovered the truth of Daryn’s alter ego. The ensuing confrontation led to Rita leaving Daryn.
Daryn then graduated high school, before moving onto college for computer programming. However, right before he was supposed to begin college, his son Jackson was born. Daryn did all he could to support his son, while also balancing school and heroics. Daryn somehow made it work, graduating from college, only to find poor job prospects. This led him to pursuing more independent projects, all the while struggling with child care payments. Add on to that a growing dissatisfaction over what he was accomplishing as the Blacksmith, led Daryn to a low point. Luckily for him, a job offer appeared, one for Serval Industries’ superhero team. Naturally, Daryn immediately agreed.
As for the whole posting at least once a week thing, I believe it is prudent to help create and maintain a flow to the roleplay that improves the experience for the players. Without such a requirement roleplays tend to get bogged down in waiting, which causes players to lose interest, eventually killing a roleplay. But with a post a week, players are continually engaged and invested in the story, allowing a roleplay to carry on.
