A ship, once sleek but now many times patched and repaired, sat nestled between two ships in even worse condition. This was the Debris Zone, sometimes called The Shoal. Here hundreds of Ahab reactors still produce both power and gravity in the destroyed shells of hundreds of ships and mobile suits. The ship in question is the only one in sight that is still truly space-worthy, and it rests here to avoid being seen while the crew recover from a recent fight. The side of the hull is painted with the name: The Mercurial Witch.

Captain Brun sat in her personal cabin(the only one on board) massaging her temples and enjoying the silence. It had been a successful raid on a smaller pirate ship, but celebrating with her crew was never her way. Her satisfied reverie was interrupted by the comm bleeping, as a message came through from the bridge.
"Captain!"
Her head tipped up to look at the speaker box on the wall; it was Mick, the sensor technician. Little as she wanted to have a conversation, Brun knew what a call from him could mean. "What is it?" she barked toward the wall.
"There's a new Ahab wave reaction. It's moving."
"Could it be loose debris?" she asked impatiently, "There's so many reactors out here, what's special about this one?"
"It's not moving in an orbital pattern, it keeps changing directions. Like it's... looking for something?" he sounded uncertain, but Brun knew Mick well. He had good instincts, and had analyzed a lot of flight patterns from his chair on the bridge.
"A salvage ship? We can send a sortie to discourage them."
"Too small, Captain. I thought a mobile suit, only it's strange it's out here alone."
Brun sat up straight for the first time, and spoke in something close to alarm now, "Who is flying a mobile suit out here? Widen the range, find the ship that it launched from. And order a sortie now. Get a look at it, and catch it. If it's out here alone it might not be able to send a message back."
Even as the captain stood to make her way to the bridge, the alarm for battle stations sounded.

In the mobile suit hangar, the various suits of the Jolly Rog crew were undergoing minor repairs. Most hadn't gotten more than a few nicks and chips in the nanolaminate, and the cranky old mechanic was preparing the depositor to make the repair.
"Lefty!" A girl floated down from the catwalk(not much use when the gravity was off), and the mechanic in question closed her eyes and clenched her jaw as she summoned what little patience she was capable of.
"You're underfoot, Holly," she growled.
"I'm above you. Actually, neither. There's no up or down here, y'know. But listen, make sure you paint the scratch on my mobile suit's head the right color! I had to trade so many favors to get that, don't ruin it!"
"First of all, this ain't your mobile suit. If anything, it's mine, and if I wanna paint it white with a target on the head I'll do that. Now go have a ration or something, you're not wanted in here."
"Come on!" Holly weedled, "I'll... polish all your wrenches? For a month!"
Finally Lefty looked at her, a scowl on her face, "If I want 'em polished you'll do it, whatever color I paint my machines. Now get-"
She was cut off by the battle station alarm. Lefty rolled her eyes, but kept on working. She was interrupted again by the arrival of the Bosun.
"Mouse," he addressed Holly, "You're gonna sortie, get in your suit before I throw you in myself."
"The repairs aren't done," Lefty cut in.
"I didn't ask, crone. If she didn't want a damaged suit, she shouldn'ta got hit, right?"
"Crone, am I? And here I thought you cared if you could rely on your repairs..."
The Bosun's hand lashed out in a wicked strike, but it was Holly that he struck, right across the face. She clamped a hand to her nose and kicked back off the deck to float up to her cockpit, blood floating behind her.
Age: 16 Background: Her family frequently traveled in space, but Holly doesn't know why, because when she was quite young, the ship she was on was set upon by pirates shortly before arriving at Mars. Holly was taken in as human debris, and bounced back and forth as she was bought, sold and traded among the usual unsavory outer sphere criminals. When around twelve(she doesn't know her exact age or birth date) she was acquired by the Jolly Rogs
From there, she was thrust unceremoniously into a Man Rodi, and served as a diversionary target for the rest of the crew. It transpired that Holly was quite good at avoiding enemy fire, and she actually performed quite well.
Personality and Reputation: Generally friendly, but fiercely independent. Loyal, very concerned with paying perceived debts(or repaying perceived slights). Has a habit of tallying what she owes and what she believes she is owed.
Mobile Suit: Name: Big Boi Frame: UGY-R41, Man Rodi.
Equipment: Head Mounted Vulcan Guns, 90mm Submachine Gun, a “hammer chopper.”
Mobile Suit: Name: Stolas Frame: ASW-G-36 Gundam Stolas
Equipment: Alaya Vijnana System Macuahuitl, a sort of club-sword with diamond-hard blades embedded at intervals. It can be wielded with one or both hands, and makes heavy strikes while the blades tear at the target. Ahab Thrusters Thermal Phase Transition Thrusters
It is the Post Disaster Timeline, year 333. You are human debris. Slaves kept(illegally now, as the practice has been outlawed) as disposable mobile suit pilots aboard the Mercurial Witch. The ship flies in a pirate fleet called the Jolly Rogs.
At present we are not accepting any other applications for Gundam pilots, however if you want to play some other role, we can discuss it.
My expectations: I'm not a stickler for post size, and in fact I think in a lot of situations in an RP, longer posts actually make a lot less sense. I'd rather have a short post that moves the story than a long post that details every aspect of your sword swing.
I'll be stricter on lore, but all that really means is that if you goof(or if I do, I don't remember everything and might forget something important) you'll have to make an edit. I'm not gonna be mad if you mix up ahab reactors and alaya vijnana systems.
If you're willing to make this a collaborative project, I'd love it if you take initiative, and I'll accept anything you include in a post(including NPC actions and important plot events) unless I have a very good reason not to. And in the latter case, we'll stop to discuss what is happening in the story so that everyone stays on the same page.
CS:
Name: Appearance: Since this is anime based, use an anime or manga styled image, or else a description. Feel free to use a combination of both. Age: don't make me regret this, but I won't set a limit. Just be prepared to justify yourself if I question it. Background: There's a good chance they don't have much, but tell me where they came from and how they got snatched Personality and Reputation: What are they like? What are they known for amongst the crew?
You'll need two for MS sheet, your original and the Gundam that you will receive.
Mobile Suit: Name: Frame: Appearance: (a picture that fits the IBO mythos, if you please. Custom model kits are actually a great source for this) Equipment: (keep this consistent with the lore, but with the gundam version feel free to get creative)
Gjallarhorn: An autonomous peacekeeping corps, founded during the Calamity War. They once operated under an almost feudal hierarchy, but after McGillis Fareed tried to use the specific rules of that hierarchy to seize power, they have shifted to a more democratic system. They act as enforcers for international law, and keep the balance between the major economic blocks of Earth and the colonies that have spread from it.
Jolly Rogs: A fleet of pirates that fly under the banner of the mysterious Queen Mab. Though it’s a shortening of Jolly Roger, it is pronounced with a hard “G.” They make extensive use of Human Debris; slaves that have been salvaged from captured ships and the like. The practice has been outlawed, but why should that stop pirates?
Brewers: A small pirate outfit. It was once large and formidable, but they got on the wrong side of Tekkadan and Teiwaz, and now they are nothing more than a single ship, harrying whoever they can in outside shipping lanes.
Queen Mab: The leader of the Jolly Rogs.
Brunhilde: Brun is the captain of the Mercurial Witch.
Brun speaks in a casually sophisticated tone. She refers to human debris as "it," and never uses their names. Her pilots she call by their callsigns, but most of the slave crew will just get a "hey you," or "space rat."
Bosun: Actual name is none of your business. The leader of the Witch's Mobile Suit squad. A cruel and demanding leader, he doesn't accept excuses, nor does he invite confidences. He pilots a heavily modified mobile suit of unknown make or origin. He joined the pirate crew willingly, and is the only member of the squad without the AV implant.
The Bosun has a rough and uncultured way of speaking.
Carrot: Actual first name Karen. The nickname is because of her role as the "carrot" to the Bosun's "stick." Rumor has it that she was human debris once upon a time, but earned her freedom through excellent service. She is pragmatic, but understanding of the plights her underlings face. She won't stick her neck out for human debris, but she will show them kindness on occasion. Captain Brun turns a blind eye to such things, as she believes the hope of freedom that Carrot represents will drive her slave soldiers to greater daring.
Carrot speaks little, and usually has an oddly formal way of speaking. She will always get to the point.
Lefty: The Witch's resident mechanic. The captain might know her real name, but certainly no one else does. Though not deliberately mean or cruel, she has a formidable bearing and very little patience.
Lefty has a similar speaking style to the Bosun, but is even more casual. However, where the Bosun is actually uneducated and uncouth, Lefty is actually quite intelligent, and every once in a while it will shine through her patois.
Ariadne A large network of relays that facilitate long range communication, and assist with navigation. Because of the jamming effects of Ahab Waves, it is impossible to communicate at long distances without the Ariadne. Each relay in the network is known as a "Cocoon"(sometimes simply called transponder) and is given its own four digit identification number. Each cocoon is equipped with an Ahab Reactor, and they are akin to floating lighthouses. They are placed at around one million kilometer intervals. As the cocoon is always generating a specific wavelength of the Ahab Wave, a traveling ship would always be able to sense the Ahab Wave and knows the specific location of the cocoon. The Ariadne routes are available by paying a predetermined toll fee. By using the Ariadne's outer circumference route that was abandoned after the war, and where Gjallarhorn's surveillance is limited, pirates and illegal merchant ships can use the cocoons for navigation. An outsider with the correct expertise can also infiltrate and use the network for their own purposes.
LCS Laser Communication System (LCS) is a short distance communication system that is frequently used to facilitate direct audio and video communications between multiple parties. It works by using a light wavelength that is close to visible light, as visible light can't be easily disrupted by Ahab Waves. However if something gets in between it and the communication target, the line will disappear. Its communication range can also be extended with the use of LCS drones.
Nano Mirror Chaff An ancient type of chaff that can be used to disrupt communications and sensors including LCS and optical sight. It is actually a powdered form of the nanolaminate armor, and is released in a puff of pink smoke.
Artificial Gravity A form of artificial gravity can be generated by Ahab Particles created within the Ahab Reactors, and may even remain active even after a ship's destruction. In addition to generating artificial gravity, the Ahab Particles can also be used to reduce G-forces within mobile suit cockpits.
Medical Nanomachine An advanced piece of medical technology, it consists of a semi-enclosed chamber full of a nanite-rich gel that a patient can be suspended in.
Ahab Reactors High output reactors invented by a scientist named Ahab Balaena and named after him, they are commonly used as power-plants in mobile suits and ships. Since they're physically indestructible, once one is manufactured it will produce energy semi-permanently. Thus, reactors that were made during the Calamity War are still active and functioning. They possess a sleep mode that will cease their power production and will require a manual rebooting for it to become operational. The reactors also generate a special type of particle called Ahab Particles, which react to emit Ahab Waves. The Ahab Particles are used for creating artificial gravity and inertial control, while Ahab Waves disrupt radio waves, communications and guided weapons. Thus, machines using Ahab Reactors are not allowed to be operated in cities, as they can disrupt the city's infrastructure. Even though they are mass-produced, each Ahab Reactor is unique, and the Ahab Waves produced by each reactor possess their own unique signature. This is used by sensors to identify specific machines. In space, gravitational effects of the Ahab Particles from the operational reactors in damaged mobile suits and military ships from the Calamity War can attract other debris, leading to the formation of high density debris belts. As these reactors are still active, it is possible to use them, but recovery in the debris belt is very dangerous.
Ahab Particles Particles produced within the Ahab reactor, it is also used as anti-G system in mobile suits and as a pseudo gravity generator in ships. These particles are harmless to the human body. Its period of existence is really short, as it collapses in less than one millionth of a second after its occurrence and then it changes into elementary particles like neutrinos, mu particles, etc and diffuses as an Ahab Wave. As it exists only in the core of the Ahab Reactor, decrease or increase of the gravity generated can be done based on the reactor output. However for the small reactors in mobile suits, it is a level that is not noticeable. Within a spacecraft carrying a large reactor, the shipboard environment can be arranged by controlling the direction of the microgravity inside the ship by circulating the liquid metal inside the reactor containing the Ahab Particles around/within the ship.
Ahab Thrusters Thrusters that generate propulsion by discharging with direction some of the elementary particles that constitute the Ahab Waves. Although output is relatively low, it is very energy efficient and doesn't require propellants. It is mainly used for inertial flight in space and attitude control.
Alaya-Vijnana System An organic device system, it is an old type of man-machine interface. The system was developed during the Calamity War to maximize the abilities of mobile suits, hence most mobile suits from that era are compatible with it. As it is part of the excessive mechanization that was thought to be the cause of the Calamity War, Gjallarhorn abandoned the system after the war's conclusion. A taboo on mechanical implants in the human body was also started to prevent widespread use of the system. The Alaya-Vijnana system consists of two parts: one part is installed in the mobile weapon, and the other part is implanted into the pilot's spine. After the implantation, the person has an interface on the back for physical connection to the Alaya-Vijnana system connector in the mobile weapon's cockpit. The Alaya-Vijnana System creates a pseudo-brain lobe in the pilot's body using nanomachines, allowing the pilot's brain to directly process mobile suit data fed through the physical connection. As the pseudo-brain lobe also governs spatial awareness, the pilot's spatial awareness is enhanced. The more implants a pilot has, the higher the information transfer rate through the system. The system also allows the pilot (even illiterate ones) to operate the mobile weapon without requiring instructions or reading a manual. As the pilot's brain is continuously under the influence of the Alaya-Vijnana System, it is unwise to physically disconnect the pilot from the mobile suit following a loss of consciousness, doing so may lead to neurological damage. Furthermore, this continuous link can cause consciousness to be forcibly maintained even in situations where the pilot would ordinarily faint or even die instantly. During the Calamity War, the implantation surgery for the pilot had no age restriction, but as technical capabilities fell 300 years after the war, the age at which surgery is possible and the success rate both decreased. Furthermore, the Alaya-Vijnana system technology often used in the current era in the Outer Sphere areas is a leaked, incomplete version. Thus, the implant surgery can currently only be done at a young age to let the implant fuse as they grow. The surgery is also dangerous and should it fail, there may be extremely grotesque cell growth around the implantation area, as well as loss of other bodily functions. In the Outer Sphere, those with the implants are sometimes derogatorily called "Rats", and the Alaya-Vijnana system interface on their back is informally referred to as "Whiskers".
Thermal Phase Transition Thrusters Mobile suits' high powered propulsion system. By utilizing the ultra high heat generated within the Ahab Reactors, thrust can be achieved by ejecting the heated and expanded hydrogen from the nozzle. Aside from mobile suits, these are also used as the main propulsion of a large ship. Since hydrogen is used as the catalyst of the propellant, a propellant tank is needed.[3]
Nanolaminate Armor A special paint that reacts to Ahab Particles is vapor-deposited onto the surface of the armor of Mobile Suits and ships. This defensive paint forms a multilayer molecular arrangement capable of handling impact from the outside, but it can break or peel off, requiring repainting. At first glance the armor seems hard, but in principle it's like a very thin cushion with several layers. It was one of the technologies developed as a countermeasure against the mobile armors, and is capable of rendering mobile armors' beam weaponry ineffective by diffusing and deflecting the fired beam, minimizing the damage done. However, the nanolaminate armor does not absorb the beam's energy or weaken it. The nanolaminate armor is also effective against physical projectiles as its energy bearing molecules can absorb the impact from live ammunitions and explosive charges, thereby protecting the machine's body from damage. As a result, ranged firearms can not score decisive hits against them and may only shave off small pieces of it unless at close range. Because of its strength and widespread usage, anti-mobile suit weapons are usually in the form of melee weapons as they are best at dealing damage to the armor. Sustained high heat can cause the molecular arrangement to breakdown, weakening the armor.
Mobile Suits Large humanoid-shaped mobile weapons that are around 18 meters tall, they were first developed as a counter to the mobile armors during the Calamity War. The foundation of humanoid weaponry was established during the early to middle stages of the war. Since then, mobile suits have been the most powerful weapons available to mankind. Mobile Suits are usually equipped with Ahab Reactors and nanolaminate armor, which are the main reasons why they are considered powerful machines. Mobile suits usually make use of an internal humanoid frame, to which parts and systems are installed on top of it. This mobile suit frame is made out of a rare type of metal with incredible strength which is also used to construct mobile suit-class melee weapons. In addition, mobile suit frames are extremely durable and can endure centuries of exposure to the environment while still remaining operational. A single frame type can be used for multiple mobile suit designs, and mobile suits can be grouped according to the frame types. However, mobile suits are expensive due to their high construction and maintenance costs.
Mobile Workers Small mobile weapons that can be used for combat, transporting materials or other daily work. They are much smaller than mobile suits and their performance in general is far inferior, but they are more common due to being cheaper. Due to a lack of Ahab Reactors in Mobile Workers, they can be used within City Limits without violating rules of engagement. They are usually powered by hydrogen engines.
Mobile Armors A series of terrifying colossal non-humanoid mobile weapons, larger than even mobile suits. They are forbidden due to their sheer terror - they killed hundreds of millions and ruined civilization during the Calamity War. They are controlled by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and as a result of little to no programmed ethical conduct, are capable of unrestrained violence. Heavily employed during Calamity War, the Mobile Armors self-evolved thanks to their AI's learning capabilities, becoming better, stronger and gaining the ability to self-propagate. They were infamously known to have wiped out cities, and were ultimately responsible for wiping out a quarter of the world's population.
Dáinsleif
Mars' Half-Metal A rare, special type of metal from Mars. Widely used on electronics aboard mobile suits and ships that use Ahab Reactors due to its shielding capability against the negative effects of the Ahab Waves. Large amounts of it can prevent Ahab Reactors from being detected.
High Hardness Rare Alloy A metallic substance with high strength that is used in mobile suit frames, armor and weapons. It can resist corrosion and does not weaken even over hundreds of years. It is thanks to this material that mobile suits can have a lifespan of hundreds of years.
@Letter Bee Okay, this we can work with. But! Instead of a separate system, I think the limiter on the Alaya-Vijnana system has already been tampered with. The previous pilot had a reckless idea of heroism.
And I'll give you this too: Ipos has some mark or emblem of the Issue family(I don't recall if there is one in canon, but we will act as if there is)
@FlappyTheSpybot I absolutely agree. I think we'll cap it at five gundam pilots, actually. Although, if anyone wants to join as another sort of character(maybe a mechanic, or a ship pilot), I will allow other players.
As to the character: so far so good, but I'll chime in again when it's done.
@Letter Bee Yeah, you're welcome here. The character is good, the gundam has a problem. The EAFS wouldn't be something installed in a gundam(or probably any mobile suit). The gundams were made late in the Calamity War, for the express purpose of fighting the rogue mobile armors. I just don't see anyone thinking that putting AI in one is a good idea, considering AI driven machines caused the whole mess.
So what I had in mind was a spear and shield in conjunction, the spear head would have a charge of fuel in it, and could either detach on command, or else be launched by thruster(though without any guidance).
The shield would have a rotating rack of spare spear heads on the inner side of it, so that it can re-arm the shaft as needed.
So yeah, spear with rocket head, a few differences in the exact execution, but very similar ideas.
You don't need to change it, I can definitely use something else.
You have no idea how close your weapon is to the one I was gonna use lol.
The only thing I would say is that the Graze would also have an Alaya Vijnana system. Obviously that's not standard equipment for it, but the pirates would want to make use of it(that's exactly why they want disposable child soldiers, after all). I only mention this at all because you specifically listed it for the Gundam, but not the Graze, and I wanted to make sure there was no misunderstanding.
My post is basically ready to go(I need to edit the end of it to reflect the scene he walks into at the bar), but like I said I wanted to go last.
If there's any reason I shouldn't sit on it, or if anyone else knows they(or their character) will be later, let me know and I'll drop the post right away.
