I was kind of worried no one would be interested since TWEWY isn't super well known. Here's hoping we can get a couple others to join
It occurs to me that my first attempt to draw interest wasn't very good, so I'm going to take another swing at it now.

The Reaper's Game is the backdrop of a game by Square Enix on the Nintendo DS by the name of The World Ends With You. It had an updated rerelease on the Nintendo Switch not too long ago. TWEWY is a bit difficult to talk about because the game likes to drip feed you information, to the point where you don't know the lead's name until the second in-game day (admittedly the first day is incredibly short) and you don't even understand the basics of the Reaper's game until day 4 or 5. I'm... basically ignoring the plot of TWEWY as far as the condition of Shibuya. It's just easier that way.

The setup for the Reaper's Game is phenomenal. A number of people who died in Shibuya wake up at random parts of the city, suddenly invisible and unheard to the masses of Shibuya. Each day these "Players" must complete a single task each day given to them by the reapers or be Erased (remember they're dead so killing them doesn't make sense)If they survive till the end of the week, they get a second chance at life. Is isn' easy because throughout the week they are hounded by Reapers who set up invisible barriers to stop their progress until certain conditions are met, or outright deploy monsters called Noise to Erase them. Noise are invisible enemies that feed off of negative emotion and inhabit Shibuya by the thousands. They are mindless but dangerous, often used as Pawns of the Reapers

For unknown reasons teamwork is one of the most important things in the Reaper's game. A player needs to have a partner by the end of day one or they are automatically erased. The only way to fight Noise is by harnessing the "psyches" granted by Pins or certain personal mediums (coins, skateboards, phones, one character uses a cat plushie) which is impossible without a Partner. Furthermore, the missions involved in the game require a vast knowledge of Shibuya and it's trends. In the words of a certain important someone "Trust Your Partner"

Of course, the difficulty in trusting your partner is compounded by the mountains of issues and trauma that almost everyone in the game has for one reason or another. Add on to that is the existence of an "entry fee" by which the most important thing in the world to each player is taken away, with a promise that it will be returned in 7 days if they win the game. The entry fee is always extremely hefty, someone's memory, someone's dreams, someone's hopes, and even someone's relationship with someone else. All can be chosen as an entry fee, and in many cases, it's difficult for a player to remain stable and hopeful without it.

The game is also interesting because despite being modern there's still a lot of equipment in the game. Instead of weapons, you have Pins each of which wields a psyche related to its design and or the name of the Pin.

The one in the top left is called Masamune, and it grants the shockwave psyche that creates a psychic blade. The one in the middle is Ice Blow and it creates a pillar of ice rising from the ground through the Piercing Pillar psyche. The one to the right is Pyrokinesis, guess what it grants you? The On the bottom is the Red Skull Pin, one I don't recognize, and the Player Pin itself which grants the Players the ability to scan for Noise, people's thoughts, and imprint ideas into people's heads.

But what's a weapon without any armor? In addition to the Pins, Players can dress up in clothing created by the 13 big brands in Shibuya (styled after the Chinese Zodiac, plus the Cat) to increase their style as well as the potential of their psyches. To be honest, it doesn't make a lot of sense but since psyches and Noise are mental creatures... Well someone in a black biker jacket and a black bandana probably looks a lot scarier than someone in a plain shirt and jeans.

So remember...

In TWEWY the game is almost upended by the behind the scenes actions of others, but in a way the Reaper's Game also continues as planned. Weak players are erased, strong players endure, and the Soul and Creativity of the Players is put to the test as they figure out the missions and learn to use powerful psyches to combat the Noise. Even without all the plotting behind the scenes the Reaper's Game has a powerful emotional tug to it. It can be the source of much tragedy and pain, as well as personal growth and happiness. Eternal bonds can be forged or snipped away by the game. And of all the desires that mankind can think of. Isn't living one of the most important there is?

With a backdrop like that I thought that making our own version of the Reaper's game would be interesting. So, is anyone interested in making some players to play the game?

All I'm asking for is some characters with full Bios and an entry fee (and preferably a helping of personal drama) to get thrown into the game and then shackled at the hip as partners. Add in a few Reapers or two to stir up trouble and I think we have a good recipe for a good dramatic story
The morning crowd of Shibuya starts up as always, people going to work, kids going to school, others going shopping or to eat at their favorite cafe. But some find themselves separated, kept apart from the masses by some invisible energy. No one can see them or hear them. Then as the clock strikes 7:00 they all receive a text message

"Find a partner, and defeat at least one Noise. Timelimit= 60 minutes. Fail and Face Erasure"
-The Reapers

Some laughed, some scoffed, some didn't care about the message until they felt a burning pain in one of their hands. As they held it up they saw bright blackened numbers in the palms of their hands, as if branded their by iron. The brand read 60:00

Then it started counting down

"Sorry for the delay everyone". Denzel's modified Scutson the Rubble Rouser approached from the alley between the two buildings in front of the warehouse. "I had a hard time getting to my suit with all the guards in the way. Anyway I took care of them and now I'm here to stay"

On approach, Denzel took a moment to appraise the situation. Dannie was in the middle of a rampage obliterating a handful of Zern suits, there were more suits in front of the building, but if Denzel charged they could be caught in a pincer attack. The suits on the right side of the building had yet to engage, but presumably, a member of the team was preparing to breach the door and take them down... Ah, there was a sniper on the building next to him. He could take care of that.

"I'm taking out the sniper outside. Once he's down you should be free to go nuts" Denzel approached the corner of the building the enemy sniper was settled on, a slightly sadistic smile spreading across his face as his Scutson adjusted its grip on its hammer to a two-handed grip.

With one swing Denzel completely demolished one of the sidewalls of the building and exposed the main support and interior, now covered in rubble and scrap from the wall. With the second swing, the head of his hammer tore through the main support as the metal shattered under the blow. Without the support the building began to dramatically crumble, metal screeching against metal as the weight became too much. The enemy sniper was dragged down as the roof beneath its feet caved in and smashed into a pile of metallic rubble.

The Rubble Rouser took a step back and half raised it's a shield as Denzel admired his handiwork with a smile.

"What a knee slapper, makin' the cripple roll around on the ground." Dannie jabbed a finger up at him with narrowed eyes. "I got half a mind to beat your ass, funny man."

"You would have to catch me first," Denzel said with a smirk on his face. To anyone else his comment would have been rude, even downright offensive. But Dannie lived and breathed sharp venomous thoughts and words. The only reason Dannie didn't dismiss him outright was his talent for trading barbs and combat skills. That said it was clear that Dannie and Cathrida knew eachother and already had a healthy respect for one another.

Denzel stood by as Cathrida and Laikia looked over LAGO and Johanna. Seeing As Johanna was still stunned from her fall, he felt compelled to explain for her.

"This is Johanna." Denzel gently rested his hand on her newsboy cap "Who you might know better by her Radio handle, HopPer. A Radio host infamous for having a nonexistent schedule, having a vague anti-Zern leaning, and there are rumors that HopPer might be supporting anti-Zern elements. But, I mean those are "only rumors"

"As for LAGO..." Denzel crouched down and gently poked LAGO's ball form. "Hey, little buddy. LAGO is useful for a lot of miscellaneous jobs. Repairing things, storing small objects, modifications and such. Johanna makes good use of LAGO, she's probably our most inventive mechanic. Not a bad pilot either but..." Denzel looked to Johanna as if trying to detect if she was lying "You sure you want to come on this one?"

Lucas's preparations were very simple. He changed out of his ratty lab coat and clothes into a fine white suit, with a tie, and put on dress pants and dress shoes. It was uncomfortable and stuffy, but that's fine he could take it.

Lucas took his place towards the back of the line and made a token attempt to appear focused. But in all honesty his mind was focused toards the future. Sowerberry, the Expo, and the promise of grant money to put to whatever he wanted. If all went well he would have money to send to his parents... and he might even get to visit them later. For that, he was willing to endure the parade into the colony.

Din was a lot more enthusiastic about the parade. As the Princess and Lycoris approached he gave a polite nod and took his place a few steps behind her. Part of him wondered who was with the Princess, but he didn't bother to mention it. He would rather not have anything get in the way of the parade... a moment of triumph and prestige. He would rather savor the parade and all the adoring eyes in their direction with a broad smile on his face...

Annona Colony - Grand Dock

Emilia did her best to stay in formation as she continued waiting for the nobles and royals to arrive. Just when it seemed like the time would never come and she was marching in place for nothing the comms crackled to life

"The Venue has connected to the colony. Look alive everyone"

All around the dock, a sudden tension fell on everyone, including Emilia as the news rippled through everyone present. Emilie kept up the march, but her eyes were drilling holes into the connection to the Venue, waiting for her first hint, her first glimpse of the Princess's arrival

"And I know your "girl crush" is about to arrive, dust blood. But if you screw up formation I will be forced to court marshal you."

Emilia felt a fire rise in her gut and she had to bite back a sudden retort. It wasn't like her to snap back at her superiors but... He was just so damn happy to irritate her and make comments he knew she couldn't defend against... but oh well. There was nothing to do but endure it.

Lucas knew about Lycoris's design malfunction with Oliver, and he knew that it ended in the death of its test pilot. But he wasn't afraid of her. In a way he had her to thank for being able to create Sowerberry at all. She was the one who made the first step towards making a 3rd generation mobile suit. She was the one who set up the everpresent naming theme for the prototypes. She was the one who had made the first mistake and paid the price...

"I um... I know that the early tests with Oliver didn't go so well" He started awkwardly "But that's the kind of thing that happens with prototypes and new technology. I don't think I'm technically supposed to tell you about this but, the first time we tested Sowerberry's heavy servomotors we pulped some of the internal machinery."

Lucas paused to collect his thoughts. He was trying to be supportive, and in a way, it was strange for him to see Lycoris present even a hint of vulnerability.

"There's a saying I like, that I read in the library. "Failure breeds success." It might not sound like the most encouraging thing but... what it means is that failure is what leads you on the path towards success. When Sowerberry crushed its own arm, I learned that I needed to reinforce and protect the innards. I'm not sure entirely what happened with Oliver but... You had your failure, and now it's time for your success, as long as you learned from it."

"And all of those other things besides, We named all our suits after Oliver Twist. So where would we be without Oliver?" He smiled and tried to lighten the mood. Before ehe could make any jokes his watch beeped. He checked the time and was surprised to see that it was approaching the time for the Venue to land.

"Looks like the Venue is docking soon. I need to clean up and put on my dress clothes real quick." Lucas turned to walk away, but paused for a moment and turned back. "I know we are rivals and all... but I really hope they allow Oliver into the Expo. Good luck Lycoris" After saying his piece Lucas walked away for real, headed to his room to prepare his dress clothes.

Annona Colony

Emilia kept as tightly information as she could. Marching in seemingly perfect harmony with the other members of her line. Even as her hands shook with excitement and twitched the handles of her mobile suit. Soon the Venue was supposed to dock, there was supposed to be a parade and nobles, along with the princess herself was supposed to walk out and-

"Slow down" one of the members of her line snarled into the radio.

"I- I'm sorry." Emilia stammered, getting back into formation

"Uh, sure Lucas. I really enjoyed hearing about how that one insect rolled fecal matter into large balls. It was very...stimulating to learn."

"I'm really glad you agree. Not a lot of people are willing to listen to me prattle on, but don't worry I'll let you talk my ear off once I'm done. If you want to."

Lucas seemed unable to realize that Lycoris wasn't in the mood to talk, and he immediately launched into an explanation of how hippos' lived in a biome called the Savanna on old Earth and survived through a combination of being the largest things in the rivers, and having such thick skin that predators could rarely even make them bleed

Just form a casual conversation it was clear that Lucas was completely enamored with animals, even the ones that were long since dead. If you asked him to explain what was special about an animal he could sit you down and explain for half an hour all the little tricks of biology they had to make them stay alive and endure. It was sort of admirable... and very strange.

Lucas treated Lycoris like they were the best of friends, and at times rivals, even though they rarely met and even more rarely did anything that could be called "hanging out." Despite all that whenever they met Lucas would ask how she was doing, what she was working on, and volunteer to tell her all about the newest animal he learned about.

The general consensus was that Lucas was just friendly to everyone, or otherwise that there was something special about Lycoris that made him treat her that way. As to what that something special was... Respect? A crush? It was hard to tell with Lucas.

"anyway their skin is so thick that the only animals that can threaten them are Rhinos, Elephants, and other Hippos. Just because they are so big and thick-skinned. Although the bone-crushing jaw and weighing as much as a ton certainly helps... I'm actually a little disappointed that the answer to their success was just... be bigger. But I guess if it works it works."

Lucas shrugged indifferently.

"anyway I'm done talking. What's up with you?"

Lucas seemed honestly interested in hearing what Lycoris had to say, now that he had said his piece

"I'm sorry Soren, I need you to get in your cage, at least until we have gone through the required ceremonies."

The peregrine falcon tapped her talons on Din's large protective glove, extended her wings and shook herself. Which probably meant, "I'm more comfortable with all this room. Don't lock me in a cage"

"I know you don't like cooped up girl. I'm sorry."

Din gently extended his gloved hand into Soren's birdcage, and she reluctantly climbed off his glove and into the cage. Din closed the cage and Soren began grooming herself, puffing up and then slicking down her feathers.

"Thank you Soren. Now then, it's time for me to get ready"

Din made sure he went the whole nine yards in his preparation. He put on his finest set of officer clothing, complete with a medal. He checked and double-checked that he was in perfect, presentable order. When he was finally satisfied he left his quarters with his head held high.

Soon it would be time for him to take his place as one of the men coming off the Venue. He had to make a good appearance.

Annona Colony

Emilia was walking in step with the martian infantry as they prepared for the arrival of the Venue. It was taking every ounce of her willpower to stay in formation. There was so much noise and excitement happening in every direction, even before the Venue properly arrived. As for when the Venue arrived...

For starters, she knew the Venue was a very grand ship, and she would love to have a look at that. Beyond that, she didn't care too much about the people on the Venue aside from the usual nobles, generals, military brats etcetera. People to be wary of for sure, but mostly unremarkable. With one single exception...

Princess Asallia Zern. Idol, princess, advocate for peace, beautiful young woman and Emilia's first celebrity crush. She knew that the chances of doing anything other than seeing her from a distance was... astronomical. But just being able to see her in person was already an amazing opportunity for her. Which was another reason Emilia was trying extra hard not to stumble or trip.
