Current I am bad, and that is good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There is no-one I'd rather be, but me.

Ashley stood up as the meeting was adjourned having listened intently thoughout the brief and now feeling relieved to be able to move around once more. Ashley still had a couple of questions but they seemed more personal and therefore less mission critical than the questions the others in the brief had had to ask and so she had resolved to send them via her computer rather than disrupt the meeting for them which she did now, swiftly tapping her questions into the holographic display before sending them to the address she had been issued some of the information through. The questions were primarily focussed on her own role in the task force, namely would she be required to pilot the hummingbird or any other vessels for it and, if she was using the hummingbird, would expenses be covered. With these questions asked Ashley was able to turn her attentions away from the dull affairs of the meeting and to her gathering of teammates

"So... Thst was interesting." She said whilst straightening her casually worn suit.
I'm in a wierd place when it comes to posting. All i can really post are thoughts and a question that almost exclusively affects Ashley (whether or not the hummingbird is required for this job) and the resulting post is so short I'd rather wait a bit longer.

Name: Jason Flint (prefers just Flint)
Nationality: British - Scottish heritage
Gender: Male
Age: 38 (born 1992)

Appearance:

Biography:
"Don't get me wrong, I despise war as much as the next person, but sometimes in battle you see the most beautiful things... The passion with which we humans cling to life is most clear when it is in danger and, sad as I am to say it, it is in battle I feel most alive."

In his early youth Jason's parents moved with him down from Scotland to Cheriton, a town near to the British Army Base RHQ: Shorncliffe, home to the famed Royal Gurkha Rifles. Over half Cheriton's population is Nepalese and many of them connected directly to the Gurkhas at Shorncliffe camp with the only other real source of income the town coming from the channel tunnel train terminal located nearby. As a consequence Jason was immersed in Gurkha culture from a young age and grew up on tales of fierce warriors from Nepal, quickly learning Nepalese through his regular interaction with the people. By 2006, aged 14, Jason had fully committed himself to joining the Gurkhas as an officer and succeeded in doing so aged 18 in 2010.

Jason's career in the Ghurkas was distinguished enough that by the end of his third tour he found himself nominated for SAS selection and managed to pass first time, ultimately joining the mountain warfare division. In 2024 however after 6 years service with the SAS in an event the libyan tribesfolk would come to know as the "night of fire" Jason's life changed forever.

The mission itself was fairly simple. Libya had once again suffered a revolution and with the wests vested interest in Libyan oil the SAS had been sent to assist in stabilising the new "democratic" government. The tribes of the south had been reporting kidnappings performed by so-called spirits and, whilst nobody took them seriously, enough fuss had been kicked up about it that the new Libyan government had seen an opportunity to earn the hearts and minds of the tribesfolk and tasked Jason's patrol to defend a village to the surprising anger of the tribespeople. "More will come for you." The people had warned Jason before nightfall then hiding themselves away in their huts.

Come nightfall initially it had seemed nothing would happen but at about midnight screams arose from the far edge of the village. Jason and his team sprinted their way across the village and what they saw shocked them beyond anything they had seen before. A horde of wolves had invaded the village and brutally torn apart the local nightwatchman. In the onslaught that followed all Jason's team bar himself had routed and he had been left to fend for himself. In his desperation to defend himself and the people of the village Jason set the grassland alight and the horror that followed led to the village branding him a monster come dawn. It was only when Jason returned to base the next day he realised non of his team had made it back and, when the main force investigated, they found only human corpses and he was dishonourably discharged.

Jason spent the year following his dismissal obsessively researching the supernatural before accepting a job offer from the Horsemen having already turned down an offer from Britains own equivalent unit as he felt betrayed by them for not having come to him sooner. He has not seen his wife or two daughters in 12 years.

Personality:
The night of fire is simply one of a long list of regrets Jason has and at times he hates himself. The length of his military service means he suffers some ptsd symptoms and becomes irritable and jumpy during prolonged periods of downtime. In his element though he is calm and professional.

Skills/abilities:
Jason is an elite soldier and can work almost any weapon he comes across to a reasonable level with his skills in small arms being excellent. Aside from the skills that come with soldiering he has some rudimentary detective skills.

Equipment:
-Primary weapon subject to change dependent on mission requirements and circumstances. Preference for bullpup, high calibre weapons, particularly battle rifles. Likes to carry light ordinance i.e.a grenade launcher where possible.
-Khukuri knife. The traditional weapon of the Royal Ghurkas and carried more out of habit than practicality. Tends to be replaced with a standard issue utility knife when concealment is an issue.
This 1x1 roleplay will be set in an alternate, near future version of the real world in which supernatural phenomina are very real albeit hidden from society, sometimes in plain sight. The events will be centralised around an organisation of private military contractors (i.e. mercenaries) who specialise in the use of and the countering of the supernatural and start in the year 2030.

Nearly all governments have their own military division dedicated to weaponising and countering of the supernatural most of whom are equal to or better than that countries "conventional" special forces. Technology will have advanced significantly albeit not quite enough to justify dubbing this roleplay sci-fi with all elements of new tech being derived from technology in development today.

This post and others will expand on the setting. I intend to add a contents list here.

Lances work in different ways to spears, except for their thrust. Spears can be used more versatilely, whereas lances are more fixated. Glaives wouldn't be an impossible weapon to exist though. They might not have been mentioned or seen since a lot was skipped over. However, there was for a fact that Agil used a Halberd (I think) or Battle Axe of sorts. These two are similar polearms, unlike spears, which are generally classified as a separate type of weapon. Spear --> LanceBut AlsoPolearm--> LanceToo variable
many possiblities

Irl lances and such do admittedly work very differently from one another however games tend to generalise to avoid having too many skills and you'll often see any vaguely similar weapons under the same skill even if they are used very differently (note the animations tend to change in order to faciliatate this). I mentioned the glaives not because I didn't think they were in the game but because I saw some on background characters about mid game (in reference to the SAO arc of the anime) and they generally didn't appear so much later on. Instead I noticed lances tended to be the long weapon of choice so figurd they might be a level progression of the earlier long weapons due to the very diverse range of weapons that tend to fit under one skill in mmos. What I thought this would probably mean is that the low level equivilent would be some form of polearm. From a rpers perspective too I know I would appreciate some versatility in my skills rather than risk being locked into one very specific variation of a weapon.

With your stat specsI mean, sure, 9 str and 19 agi isn't a great start for a tank, however, if you go with the next 10 levels with strength, it would balance quite nicely.

i know ideally we would preserve the continuity but I would really be more comfortable respecing... I am going to have to change skills anyway if I want to go down the planned path.

I don't think there was anything with shields really, just a higher shield skill meant greater reduced damage when guarding. I don't think there were any shield bash skills, I think that would just be a non-system attack, which may damage slightly and push enemies away.

It is the guard moves I am referring to. There would almost certainly be skills, even passive ones, regarding blocking. Of course you and Caits have the final say in this.

Hail, I'm uspet that you haven't said Hi to me.

Hi chukkle! Long time no see!
Light has had guests for the last couple of days (myself included) although I have had to return to work in my hometown now. I believe he still has some guests around and so may or may not post. If I had to guess I would say most likely not until he gets some alone time but that is an assumption on my part.
