It continued to speak, but at this point Koriand'r wasn't entirely sure what he was trying to say. If it was even talking to her--it wasn't like he was making eye contact, so she had no real way of knowing. If she was able to get in contact with what was under its shell, she was certain she could learn its language, but there didn't seem to be any openings. His entire body seemed to have been made of that strange metal--if it even was metal, it could be some sort of material natural to this habitat. Or this was its skin and was simply how beings of this planet were?

As it closed its eyes and looked like it was struggling, she let out a gasp as it...shed its skin? Is that what was happening? She could only assume so, and it did it rather quickly! Her jaw dropped as she circled him once more. It was like he was a completely different being! How very strange! Perhaps it was akin to a defensive armor that appeared for threats? The Glorgnots of her planet had been the same, though they were much squishier under their shells. He must have deduced that she was not a threat and chose to shed the metallic skin. Fascinating, she had no idea there were creatures like this in the galaxy.

In a way, they looked more alike now, albeit his eyes were much different than hers. Her fingertips brushed up against his forehead, and she couldn't help but note how soft it was compared to before. It--He, he looked much more like the males of her planet--shivered, adding credence to her theory. Looking him up and down, Koriand'r hovered in front of his face, getting much closer than before. She had to admit she liked this form much better than the other one. In all her staring, she realized that his skin was organic! This was exactly what she needed!

Koriand'r's eyes lit up at the realization, letting out a small squee of delight. Landing on the ground, she took a hold of his shirt, pulling him towards her as she kissed him. To her surprise, it took a little longer than expected to assimilate the language. When she finally parted, it took her a moment to realize what had happened.

"Espera...¿dos idiomas?" Koriander spoke slowly as the realization dawned on her. "What a talented tongue to have more than one language. No me esperaba esto, pero...thank you, Blue One." She paused as she realized she was mixing the two up. Interesting, she wondered what sort of planet had two languages. Maybe there were different tribes?

Remembering her manners, Starfire put on a smile. "Forgive the damage to your home, you see, I was trying to get out of these," She lifted her hands, dropping them shortly after. "If there is something sturdier that I may have better luck destroying them on, do tell. I am eager for complete freedom."

It continued to speak to her, making a few gestures. Or at least, that was her assumption. For all intents and purposes it could have been complete nonsense, but it seemed to move with some sort of purpose. Koriand'r supposed that it was at least trying to communicate with her, indicating that it meant well. It mimicked her previous movement followed by shaking his head, and it then clicked: it was trying to get her to stop smashing against the stone. She didn't know why, of course, but she was pretty sure that's what he was referring to.

Despite the glow in her eyes fading, she remained airborne for a moment, deciding to inspect the Culacao (she honestly was doubting it was one, but she didn't know what else to call it). Putting herself inches away from it, she narrowed her eyes as she looked it over. The patterns were made with purpose and didn't seem natural, but its skin was strange. As she circled around it, she touched its shoulder lightly. It was metallic, but this certainly wasn't any metal she had ever seen before--or at least it seemed more inorganic. Puzzled, she touched both black and blue parts, bewildered as she tried to make sense of what she was looking at.

"Kroloten niteh?" She asked him, hands raised as she poked his chin.

Koriand'r's frustration was slowly building as the stone continued to crack, and yet the cuffs remained in pristine condition. Either the stone on this planet was more fragile than she expected or the cuffs were sturdier than most. It must be the latter, if she could have broken out of them before while imprisoned then she certainly would have by now, even without the numerous shocks and experiments she had experienced on a daily basis. Of course, that meant she was at a standstill. If physical force wouldn't remove them, what would?

Letting out a huff of annoyance, she readied one last thwack before hearing a voice in a language she didn't understand. The alien nearly jumped in place as she noticed the strange blue creature, its patterns unfamiliar to her. For one, those patterns usually belonged to creatures six or seven times its size, and this one wasn't even taller than she was. For another, they didn't normally speak. At least, she was certain it was trying to speak to her, even if she didn't understand what it was trying to say. If it was a denizen of this planet then she supposed it could be asking what she was doing.

Unwilling to look weak despite her predicament, Koriand'r's eyes glowed green, the tail end of her hair sparking up as she hovered in the air. "Kortraf glorven kienta...Asul Culacao," Koriand'r spoke slowly, raising an eyebrow. Was it a Culacao? She actually had no idea if she was being honest. And it didn't matter, the less attention she got, the better. "Kentaf korneg sufra."

RED ALERT! RED ALERT! RED ALERT!

Waking up with a start, Koriand'r let out a groan as her senses slowly came back to her. The last hit had slammed her right into the nearest wall and knocked her out for a minute, but it looked like she was still alive. The same couldn't be said for the ship, however; a multitude of alerts and fatal warnings had covered the screen in front of her. It was quite the situation, but she wasn't about to panic just yet. Of course, that thought came shortly before something exploded. Pulling herself up on shaky legs, she quickly realized the entire ship was falling. That's right, she had been shot down, that last hit must have been the final hit. Behind the numerous warnings were flashes of lights amid a dark sky, though a second look let her know that she was quickly approaching what looked like a black landmass.

There was no stopping the imminent landing at this point, and instead she sat down in the nearest seat, clumsily strapping herself in with bound hands. To her surprise, the crash wasn't nearly as harsh as it should have been--the initial collide from ship to land was felt, but it had almost felt slowed down somehow. The best comparison she could make was the quicksands of a desert, and with that in mind, she hastily unbuckled herself. The very last thing she wanted was to drown just when she was at the cusp of freedom. Once she was free to fly, she went straight for the port hatch, stopping as she watched the door crack. Was something trying to get in? A denizen of the planet? Deciding she would get the first hit, she brought up the energy in her fists, shooting a green bolt of energy at the door.

In hindsight, it was not one of Koriand'r's brightest ideas, as the door shattered on impact and a gush of liquid entered the ship. She let out a shriek as she was knocked back down, pushed around for a little until she got her bearings and hovered above the slowly rising--was that water?! Well, she didn't want to drown to sand, and drowning to water wasn't anymore appealing. Taking in a deep breath, she went through the hole in the ship with some resistance, managing to cling to the edge of the hatch and pulling herself up with some difficulty. The water was chill to the touch, shocking her as she swam to the top.

Breaking the surface of the water, Koriand'r took in a deep breath as she looked around. The flashing lights startled her, soaring up above and resulting in loud bangs. Was this planet under attack as well? If so, she was certain the Psions wouldn't be far behind. Fortunately actual land was just a swim away, though she could do without her handcuffs weighing her down. Getting rid of them was definitely her first priority. As she climbed out of the water, she looked around and noticed the odd structures of stone around her. Yes, one of them should do nicely.

Shaking off some of her wet hair, Koriand'r approached the closest structure, summoning her strength as she gave the cuffs a good whack. Surprisingly, they didn't break--they were sturdier than she thought. She continued to wail on them, putting more force into her swings.

Ioannis tried not to laugh too much at the discussion of Jorah, but still found it amusing. He was delighted (and a little surprised) at both Clarissa and Auberon's offer of assistance, putting on a thoughtful face.

"I may have to take you both up on that offer sooner than later. But please, don't let me keep you," Ioannis insisted. "I do hope you come to enjoy your time here! And tea sounds lovely, I'll make sure to ask someone to fetch some leaves from the market at their earliest convenience."

Giving the pair a genuine smile, he gave the pair a wave as he decided to rejoin Sirius and Kalliope.

A low toned bell rang through the campus, heard from all around Garreg Mach. It was distinct from the usual chimes of the times of day, indicating that meals were ready at the Dining Hall. On any other day, a horde of students and church goers would likely stampede into the room and form lines, but as today was more relaxed, it was mostly stragglers and the hungry that decided to answer to the bell's summons. Word about a get together in a Golden Deer dormitory had spread, and it spread fast--while there were some who preferred to get settled, some were curious to see the many nobles of the Rose Unit. The idea of putting a majority--if not all--the nobles into a single unit had spread faster than the party rumors, with whispers on the Archbishop's decision floating around.

"I should've taken a nap..." Derec quietly grumbled to himself, stretching his arms above his head. The realization came after the initial excitement at everything on campus had worn off; he had attended the sermon, but rather than stick around and wait for some of the clergy to approach him, he had decided that exploring the campus was a much better use of his time. The Monastery was not only well kept, but any nature around was preserved wonderfully. The greenhouse in particular ended up being his favorite place, and he had made it clear that any volunteering opportunities there would likely get snatched up by him first.

Of course, all that wandering had left him hungry and tired. Luckily one of those problems could be solved by just going to the cafeteria! He was still trying to get a handle on what he thought of the little group, but he wasn't completely concerned. Kellen seemed friendly enough and both Auberon and Lienna tied for being difficult depending on circumstances, but he figured he would cross that road when it came.

A nearby tree shook rather violently, causing Derec to jump in place. Before he could react, a shadow dropped from the leaves, landing in front of him. Despite the blur, it soon became obvious that it was a person and not some shadow monster. The mess of silver hair had clued him in that the guy in front of him had somehow been napping in the trees, confirmed by the loud yawn that followed.

"Ah. Ballard, isn't it?" He asked, silver eyes examining Derec carefully. "For someone so cautious, you certainly love spending time alone, don't you?"

Derec had about a dozen questions to ask, but he decided on the two most obvious: "Who are you? Have we met?" He asked, though he realized he definitely would have remembered such unique clothing.

"Theo. And no, we haven't," He yawned again, rolling his shoulder. "But I figured I'd introduce myself. Wouldn't want you too spooked while I was trailing you."

Narrowing his eyes, Derec couldn't help but scoff. "Does the Church really have nothing better to do than track a random student around?"

"Considering the tracking of one Miss Orhneaht, apparently not," Theo admitted that much, his eyes sharpening as he looked at Derec. "Except you're not just some random student, are you?"

Derec wasn't sure what Theo was trying to do. He wasn't exact intimidating, but it was startling how much he seemed to know. The Church decided not to out him, so what was this guy doing, exactly? Was he trying to make sure he stayed quiet? Or did he look to expose him?

Theo picked up on Derec's nervousness, rolling his eyes. "Relax, you'll give yourself a heart attack if you get too paranoid," He said, waving off Derec's concerns. "If anything, I'm here to make sure nothing happens to you. It wouldn't do to have a student assassinated on holy ground."

"How thoughtful," Derec replied, clearly in disbelief. "Why bother revealing yourself to me if you're supposed to be watching me?"

"To gain trust and all that nonsense. It wasn't my idea, but you seem the most paranoid of the ones I'm supposed to be watching, so I thought I'd give it a shot," Theo said, placing his hands behind his head as he walked towards the cafeteria. "I'm jonesing for some Grilled Herring."

Ones. Theo was watching multiple people? Orhneaht was Lienna's last name, so he wasn't the only one. Derec hated how nonchalant Theo seemed to be about it, too. Of course, nonchalance was comparable to whatever look Professor Michail gave him earlier. Letting out a sigh, Derec decided to put it out of mind for now--he'd stress himself out further if he lingered on it too much. That said, it ended up consuming his thoughts as he got his dinner and sat down at a table, trying to figure out who Theo actually was. His face definitely looked familiar, but he clarified that they hadn't met.

"What a great start," Derec couldn't help but mumble, picking at his jerky.

Tomai seemed to appreciate Lienna's question, taking a second to rummage through his bag. However, he caught her expression, watching her for a moment. Once she spoke again, he stopped looking, remembering himself as he stood once again and took his book in hand.

"It's a good question. Of course, the curriculum will touch on that, but I'm afraid if you want to know more, you may have to do so on your own time," Tomai told Lienna. "Said curriculum is more focused on black and dark magic, but I always throw in some crest knowledge."

His fingers tapped the cover of his book as he internally debated, but he ended up following it up with, "Of course, I'm supposed to have office hours after classes to accept students. If you find yourself with spare time and having more questions, I'd be glad to answer them to the best of my ability. It isn't often that I get to speak of my work." There was the slightest hint of pride as he spoke, giving Lienna a nod as he walked past her, deciding to take his leave.

After a few steps, however, Tomai stopped, a question on the tip of his tongue. He ended up deciding against it, but he did look back at Lienna. "There are many methods people have used. These days it's easy to cross reference several scientific journals and make several hypotheses, combined with the technology we have now, it's a matter of putting the pieces together," He ended up explaining. "I hope that eases you."

Princess Koriand'r of Tamaran, Age 15 (b. 1953)
Has Crash Landed in Newark Bay
Active as of Right Now

Character Concept

At this point in her life, Koriand'r has seen more of other planets than her own.

While she was born second into royalty on her home planet of Tamaran, Koriand'r was set to inherit the throne after her older sister, Komand'r, fell ill to a disease in her childhood that made her ineligible to become queen. Before the opportunity ever came, however, an interplanetary empire known as the Citadel came and invaded Tamaran. With a bitter Komand'r's assistance, they overwhelmed the Tamaranean citizens, and Koriand'r was given to the Citadel in their terms of surrender.

After years of torture, she was handed over to the Psions for experimentation. It wasn't until she developed the ability to conjure destructive blasts of solar energy despite the shackles that bound her that she was finally able to make her escape. After procuring a ship and eliminating any opposition, Koriand'r was able to drive a ship towards Tamaran. Unfortunately, a combination of bad luck and multiple hits meant her ship was going down sooner than later, and she was ultimately shot down, her ship crashing through Earth's atmosphere and landing in a body of water.

And so Koriand'r steps out of the bay, soaked to the bone, and looking around for a place to get her cuffs off.

tl;dr alien princess from outer space crash lands on earth. shenanigans ensue.

I think getting to write the development of a literal alien coming to Earth and learning things is not only hilarious, but also something I have yet to actually write. Writing canon characters will also be something new for me, but I'm excited for the challenge.

My hope is to write Starfire's experiences in a healthy mix of both comic and show counterpart. I know it's been done (with varying levels of success), I just wanna take a crack at it. I'll admit my long term plans are more a of a slow burn, with her arc of confronting her sister being way down the line (and possibly The Citadel at one point) and the priority being getting to know Earth and the many heroes hanging around. On the other hand, I think the introduction is a pretty good way to kick things off and will get a little zing going.
tl;dr goal = be the baddest bitch in boots

"Come now, we all knew this day would come."

"The Citadel is relentless, but their timing could not have been worse."

"Ah, yes, the princess is also..."

The conversation stopped as the door opened, the two women waiting to see who would come in. As Koriand'r poked her head in, green eyes scanned the room, excitement taking over as she spotted her mother. Luand'r beckoned her over, arms wide as her daughter flew into them. Letting out a giggle, Koriand'r's expression fell as she noticed the serious look on her mother's face.

"Mother? What's wrong?" She asked.

The other woman bowed her head to them both, choosing this chance to take her leave. Once the two were alone, Luand'r thought to herself on how to respond. "Wrong...no, today is a day to celebrate. For we have a new future queen," She spoke slowly, choosing her words carefully.

Furrowing her brow, Koriand'r shook her head in disagreement. "But...Sister will be queen," She reminded her. "And she will rule. Father said so."

"He did, but things have changed," Luand'r said, sitting her daughter down next to her.

"Why?"

"It has been decided," Luand'r replied firmly, making it clear that she wasn't leaving any room for further questioning. "Tomorrow, we will make a formal announcement to all and we will celebrate. Someday, you will be Queen--"

"AHHHHHH!" Her own scream was so loud that it took her a second to register it was her own, the whiplash in her mind going from past to present disorienting her. It wasn't until the pain finally stopped that she remembered where she was. The cold handcuffs held her arms above her head, her body dangling in the air as the mechanism around her neck released her. Slowly, she was lowered to the ground, the air feeling like daggers against her skin. She could hardly feel the shackles around her legs, but then again, they were only there so when she did have the energy she couldn't reach any of the walls to smash.

There were faint voices that sounded far away, but Koriand'r paid no mind to them. They always said the same thing: 'she hasn't exploded yet'. The only thing that was any different this time around was that her hands were stinging, her fingers flexing repeatedly. It was weird, it felt like the sun was too hot on them, but there wasn't a single ounce of sunlight around her--only the light of the many machines. It didn't really hurt, but it was weird enough to notice.

The voices were gone, and at that point, her body was winding down. Except for her hands. What was going on with that? The sensation--yes, that word felt more fitting--wasn't going away, but aside from the handcuffs, they didn't look any different. Focusing on her palms, she squinted as she slowly closed her hands, a flash of green emitted from her fists. Letting out a gasp, she tried again and failed, but after a few tries, she got it again.

"What is this...?" Koriand'r couldn't help but mutter, letting out another gasp as she managed to get the light to stay. It almost felt like she was holding energy in her hands! How was this possible? Was this the explosion the Psions were looking for? No, they sounded disappointed, they would have noticed a change like this.

Or would they?

Gaining a second wind, she shifted herself to her knees and looked around. If this was energy she was harnessing, then she should be able to do something. And that something was best used against the glass where the scientists usually watched. Of course, if her idea worked and she was able to get out, they'd be all over her. They'd probably do more things and figure out why it happened. Honestly, the risks outweighed the slim chance of success, but if it meant even a glimmer of freedom, she had to go for it. But she wasn't going with an ability she just learned--instead, she was going to free herself then brawl her way out if she had to.

Lifting up her arms, she pointed her fists at the bolt holding the chains to her shackles as she concentrated. One flash, another, and after some time she was able to keep it consistent. Now, she should be able to do something with this. As she clenched her fists, she nearly yelled as the light shot out from her hands and obliterated the chain. Well, that worked much better than expected! Unfortunately, the blast didn't free her from her handcuffs, but she would just have to manage.

Free to fly, Koriand'r knew she didn't need her new ability to get out of there. With a savage battle cry, she smashed her fists against the glass repeatedly until it shattered, an alarm blaring shortly after. She wasn't going to wait for anyone to show up, but she quickly realized she had no idea where to go. Would it be easier to bash her way through a wall and fly to the nearest planet? No, a ship would be easiest, wouldn't it?

The sound of several voices snapped her out of her thoughts, and without a second to lose, Koriand'r flew as fast as she could. At the first sight of a Psion, she tackled it, taking a hold of its arm and dragging it with her.

"Where are the ships?" She asked.

"F-Fiend! Release me at--ACK!" Once she didn't get what she wanted, she made sure to slam him into a corner as she turned. "Brute! Unhand me!"

"I'll ask you one more time," She gripped his arms tightly, the green energy appearing. "Where are the ships?"

"T-To the left--AHHHH!"

She didn't bother keeping him around, flying over a group and tossing him back towards them. With freedom in sight, she flew through the gate, the hallway changing as she entered the small ship. She doubted it would get her back home, but she could get it to take her as far away from the Psions as possible.
