Bio

A writer, artist, animator, worldbuilder. In short, jack of all trades, master of some.

For the most part, I've retired from roleplaying. For quite a long time, what kept me tied to RPG was the Spam community—but even that I have distanced myself from. Now, my focus is on the writing contests.

I consistently try to write reviews for RPGC, and I consistently enter the Twelve Labours.

First labour; world of Archipelago, Jack.
Challenge: an unwelcome death.
For next entry: characterization.

Second labour; world of Uberpowered, Émile.
Challenge: an unfortunate fortune.
For next entry: pacing.

Third labour; world of Cinderlore, Caerys.
Challenge: an unforgiving ambition.
For next entry: proofreading.

Fourth labour; world of Supers, Joshua.
Challenge: an uncompromising betrayal.
For next entry: development.

Fifth labour; world of Mutamorphis, Olrich.
Challenge: an unrepressed motive.
For next entry: development, dammit.

Sixth labour; world of Mythos, Melas.
Challenge: an untenable alliance.
For next entry: dénouement.

Seventh labour; world of Hatemongers, Talahn.
Challenge: an unbearable sacrifice.
For next entry: cast utilization.

Eigth labour; world of Mythica, Céline.
Challenge: an unwinnable challenge.
For next entry: plot cohesion.

Ninth labour; world of Nardja, Albiorn.
Challenge: an unknowing accomplice.
For next entry: narrative set-up.

Tenth labour; world of Magestones, Ariana.
Challenge: an unwilling inspiration.
For next entry: narrative set-up, dammit.

So your argument for writing spamfics, is that you'll have more fun not writing spamfics, but then you loop it back around to saying "Yeah sure write those; it has its own advantages" even though if nobody reads them, those advantages are lost entirely. K.

Not at all?

I never said it'd be better not to write them, nor that the advantages were lost if nobody read them. That's like the exact opposite of what I was saying.

@Holmishire

Then there's no reason for it to leave their own head to begin with.

Have you ever read the same book twice, or watched a movie twice? Certainly you know what happens in the story, and you are familiar with the characters. You might even have memorized the dialogue.

And yet, there are certain advantages in the cohesion of applied media that the mind cannot rightly do justice on its own.

Lol that's bull. No one would write a Spamfic unless Spam read it, whether it was a truly artistic effort or complete crap. Spamfic authors are entertainers and entertainers need to entertain or else they will wither and die like a plant without sunlight.

What if the only person that need be entertained is the author themselves?

Writing a spamfic is a reward in and of itself. Relevant or not, readership or no.
Working on my entry much earlier than I usually do.

This is the first labour so far that I'm having to carefully tread the line between the story I want to write and what is needed to pass the challenge. It's proving quite interesting.

In addition, I'm working hard on my pacing, and I hope it'll show.
Welcome back to yet another round of Holmishire's critiques! Enter at your own risk.

Note that the letter grades are just my personal feelings toward the entry, and not necessarily an accurate gauge of quality. They are also unrelated to the criticism given in the hiders—even if I've written a massive critique breaking down problems in your piece, that does not automatically mean it was a bad entry. It just meant that I needed more words to properly address those issues. I'm trying to help writers improve, not bash them. Believe me, I have written some massively error-laden short stories.

That being said, feel free to question me on anything I say.

As one can presumably gather from the letters above, my @vote goes to the first entry, the Dark Places. To everyone else, great efforts, and I hope you continue to strive for the best!
Sorry to anyone who eagerly awaits my reviews—(exactly nobody, I presume)—but I'm a busy kid. I've been writing about one a day, starting yesterday, so I hope to finish them around the end of this coming week.

The good thing about this, though, is that I'm spending more time on each entry's review.

also spoiler alert, i liked the first two
Yo, time for my little reveal!

I hadn't originally intended to go anonymous, but once I realized I'd forgotten a couple minutes after submitting, I decided to leave it as is anyways. Just curious to see how it would do.

I think, therefore* I am was mine entry. Some typoes will live on in eternal infamy.

Thank you for the praise I received, as well as the criticisms, @Terminal and @PlatinumSkink. The pacing is evidently what I need to work on next—it has always been my greatest challenge.

In a sense, this story is a result of me biting off more than I could chew—at least, initially.

Superpower analysis and deconstruction has always been an interest of mine. While this entry may not be my best, I did have a blast coming up with it!
At last, I've submitted my entry—and it seems to be 10:45PM in Honolulu, so I believe that means I've made it in!

Can't wait to see what everyone's pulled together.
oh

right

Well, it's not like I've ever not written my short stories last minute. I SWEAR I'MMA DO DIS
