Desktop profile login won't work. Coincidence that Windows 7 is no longer supported on same day? Consider me doubtful.

I'm having way too much fun with my Legend of Zelda Encylopedia. This is the game that got me into roleplaying so have a lot invested in it's lore and stories. Too bad can't have all the games too.

Kakariko Village

Kakariko Village was a happening place these days. The sound of hammering and sawing resounded throughout the village as craftsmen went about their work, building new houses and facilities by the month. About a decade ago now, Kakariko Village had been but the smallest of hamlets; however that began to change when Impa had decided to open up the village to the common people of Hyrule. What had once been a tribe purely for the Sheikian clan had opened up the gates and the masses had poured in.

What had once been a remote village was now on the cusp of township, due to the massive amounts of Hylians that had decided to settle in the village. As a result the carpentry industry had a massive boom as they worked hard to meet the demands of an ever increasing population. Yulen found himself working part-time at a carpentry business with a rather loud-mouthed boss. He was a large, gruff looking man who knew about hard-labor, but his bark was more of the encouraging type than that of a taskmaster.

"Heads up! Here comes the next plank!" His boss yelled up to Yulen, who was perched up on the top of the frame of a new house.

"I'm ready!" Yulen called down as the plank was hoisted up by the work crew. He quickly caught the plank and guided it into position as they prepared the top for where a roof would be put in eventually.

"That a boy! You'd never think you'd have it in you with those spindly little arms of yours!" His boss joked as Yulen managed to set the plank in place without a sweat.

"No doubt that's why you had me go through that test first before you hired me!"

"You can bet on the Goddesses that's why I made you go through those extra hoops, I'm not about to let some twig join my crew if they're just gonna wimp out on me in a week!"

The extra test being mentioned had been quite a variety of tasks, such as hauling heavy loads, correct handling of tools, and even a physical fitness test just to be considered. Yulen's boss only wanted the best crew he could get which is why he had been hesitant when the boy had first tried to get hired. At this point the boss only wondered why Yulen had never tried to join up full time. It was a shame he couldn't get more out of the boy but even if he tried to sneak in some overtime, Yulen always insisted on only doing what he was required to do. It was really quite vexing.

"Let's make sure all the framing is done correctly and securely before we start putting the rest of the house up! Let's do it before our little skulltula jumps ship!"

Yulen rolled his eyes at the nickname as he prepared to finish up his shift.
At first I was going to put in some skills but, eh that will be done IC anyway. Most important things are the age, name, and what the character looks like. Might put in some more detail later.
Hey Hey! I'll try to get a basic character sheet up in a bit. Then you can make yours and we can plan from there. :)
Name:
Yulen

Age:
15

Appearance:
Standing at about 5'2" the young man still has some growing to do. Yulen has short black hair, hazel colored eyes, and somewhat defined features. His build is rather lean so to the untrained eye he appears rather weak. He has a somewhat tanned complexion from working out in the sun for long hours.
Setting Up
The problem with a open-world type game set in dragon ball z is...well the mobs frankly make no sense at all. Everything that's just a mob would be useless to fight since even during the saiyan saga, Goku is vastly stronger than anyone on Earth except for a few rare individuals that could put up a fight. It makes no sense for him to fight red ribbon robots and dinosaurs as they pose literally no challenge at all plus there shouldn't even be that many of them on Earth in the first place, especially red ribbon stuff.

Now, if they set the game during Dragon Ball, then Earth mobs would actually make sense and pose a threat, especially during the earliest parts of his career and would fit well as a game mechanic and fit plot wise. Also, during Dragon Ball the Earth seemed a lot more interesting, once it moved to Z and beyond it was basically reduced to just home base and a place to get invaded or destroyed. Earth enemy mobs just really don't make a lot of sense considering the time frame in Z.

Once you get into Super, or even GT, then mobs could make sense again since there are a ton of planets or even Universes to visit which would open up a lot for enemy variety and types. In a super setting, you could just make up a whole bunch of worlds and places to explore and train. In a GT setting there were already quite a few different worlds and locations that could prove interesting to explore and interact with the locals. But of course game developers want to stick with what everyone remembers best cause they don't like taking chances and instead just rehash the same thing over and over.
@Fabricant451 Sound like you have first hand experience with this game. Did you have the misfortune of buying it and playing long enough to not be eligible for a refund?

But ya, sounds like the cash grab I thought it was. I just can't understand why they thought it was a good idea to just recreate the DBZ anime as an open world game. Everyone knows these sagas, I can just imagine the fluff and mmo type quests put into the game as they try to fill in a world that has been shown to be 90% wide expanses of nothingness. Dragon ball makes sense as a fighting game, that's the main thing people like about the series, world building has never been a dragon ball strong suit which is something a good rpg needs to make it feel alive and interactive.

Sounds like they tried to make an rpg experience, while attempting to keep some of the battle elements of other titles, and just failing to do any part of the game justice.

There are very few DBZ games out there I would consider good. Most are pure fan-service disguised as a game and Kakarot sounds like a doozy.

I'm still a little annoyed with myself for getting Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission, which is almost completely fan-service and just finding a way to exploit the system with skills. At least there is some skill in deck building and certain missions require the correct set up to have a chance to win. Still sounds better than Kakarot even if the battle system is just the correct timing of a button press.

At least the card creation system is cool and allows you to completely mess around with characters and create your own unique abominations or powerhouses. While the game itself isn't great, at least I can have fun with all the customization and weird battles you can make.
@DX3214 Do they exist? Yes, but they'll have a very hands off approach to things so they won't directly exert influence on the world. Religion exists along with deities but in general won't be at the forefront of conflict. I doubt I'll spend a great deal of time planning out religions and the like.
Question #1: I suspect that there would be noble Houses? As in, people who own land and run services on them that benefit the kingdom, and would have commoners live on their lands?

I would say that is a safe assumption. There would certainly be different noble houses in control of territories that pledge allegiance to certain lords. There would certainly be a feudalism type government set up though of course most land would be under invaders control along with the commoners living there.

Input #1: I don't think I'd like to be an heir, as I'm very interested in playing a young knight with a low title who is seeking to redeem or restore her House's honor to its former glory, by striving to become a reliable leader and competent with blade & bow. But there's a twist, and here's a teaser: Her House's history isn't what she thinks it is.

If I get this RP up and running I would look forward to seeing what kind of character that turns out to be.

Question #2: Will this story focus on the results of large armies battling each other for control of territory, while our characters either float around it or perhaps dive straight through it?

I certainly expect large battles to be a part of the roleplay, though, especially at first, it will be more about finding backing, setting up cells in taken over territories to run interference and preparing for the battles to come, etc. Small-scale at first but then ramping up whenever they decide to make a major move.

Question #3: Will there be any demonic or heavenly sources of magical power? Sounds like it is all self-energy based as it is. I'm just curious.

For the most part I'll keep magic a completely separate source from such influences. In the case of blessings and curses, faith could perhaps be used sort of 'boost' but as a whole magic will not be influenced much by such sources.

Question #4: I think I noticed in your magic system draft a lack of magical traps? Maybe it would be elements, but would mages be able to set, say, magical runes that react to certain environment conditions? IE: Someone enters this room and suddenly poisonous gas is conjured?

Magical traps could in fact be used and implemented but, they wouldn't last very long. You wouldn't just be able to carve a rune and then leave it for a week to wait for an enemy, either someone would have to recharge it every few hours, or they would have to be set a short time before an enemy arrived. Magical traps are possible but not very efficient and would require maintenance to make sure they had enough power to be of much use.
How do you feel about the level of character diversity you've experienced?

...well frankly I don't really care. I've seen a lot of different characters that were unique and well written, but I've also seen plenty that were made diverse for diversity's sake and the character suffered for it. I appreciate people who take the time to craft a well put together character that fits within whatever setting they have been put in. Personally, I at least try to make sure whatever character I create doesn't have too much similarity with any other player character but aside from that I don't put too much thought into it.

For me personally, it is setting first and character second. Even if it is a character I want to try out, if I feel I cannot properly put that kind of character into that story, I'll scrap the character and come up with something different. Thankfully I have very rarely had to do that as I usually catch on before a character can be fully developed.

Make the character you want to create, make it fleshed out, and diversity will or won't happen; not a big deal either way as long as the characters are crafted well.
