Okay guys, let me know if this looks all good to you! Sorry Eveekitten for chaning the locale a bit but I thought this might work a little better as its more secluded. Let me know if you want to change/changes need to be make to the layout.

Also, much of the staff has yet to be filled in. Once I get a few apps I can fill in more of the professors. Then Ill make NPC professors that for the classes that havent been picked. If anyone wants to help making the NPCs, lemme know. :)

The Salem Academy of Magical Arts

*************************************************************************************************

The Salem Academy of Magical Arts is an American wizarding boarding school teaching the magical arts, located in Salem, Massachusetts inside Salem Castle. The castle is in the Salem Woods. The precise location of the school can never be uncovered because it has been rendered Unplottable. Similarly, most wizarding schools locations are protected in order to prevent their ways of teaching being revealed, as well as protect the students and schools themselves from any harm.

Established around the 16th, The Salem Academy is considered to be one of the finest magical institutions in the wizarding world, though other notable schools include Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, the Durmstrang Institute, and most notably, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Children with magical abilities may be enrolled at birth, and acceptance is confirmed by owl post at age eleven.

The school's motto is Ratio autem est, spe metu and is in Latin, which translates to "the basis of optimism is sheer terror".

===================
Location
===================

The Salem Academy is located in Salem Castle, a large castle in the Salem Woods of Massachusetts. The castle has extensive grounds with sloping lawns, flowerbeds and vegtable patches, a lagoon (called Silverwater Lagood), a small wood (called the Salem Woods), several greenhouses and other outbuildings, a full-size Quidditch Pitch. There is also an owelry, which houses all the owls owned by the school and those owned by students.

The school has numerous charms and spells on and around it that make it impossible for a Muggle to locate it. If anyone enters the Salem Woods, they are led in circles until they find their way out of the wood. Elecricity and electronic devices are not found at the Salem Academy due to the high levels of magic that make them go haywire.

There seem to be various ways of entering the school such as via brooms or Floo powder, apparating to a nearby location, locomotive, and more.

School Year
===================

The Salem Academy’s school year is structured in a similar way to other non-magical schools and colleges in the United States, with a two-semester year punctuated by Winter and Simmer holidays. Students have the option of staying at the academy for the winter and spring holidays. Those who choose to stay at the castle do not have lessons and attend a feast on Christmas Day. Students also do no have classes the week during Easter, but this is much less enjoyable due to the large amount of work the teachers assign students at this time in preparation for final exams.

Other than the breaks and weekends, students do not receive holidats. There are normally four feasts per year: the start-of-term feast at the beginning of the school year, end-of-term feast at the end of the school year, and feasts at Halloween and Christmas. Feasts are also called to mark special occasions.

Quidditch tryouts for house Quidditch teams happens at the very beginning of the school year. Quidditch matches usually start during the first weeks of Novemeber. In the second week of December, the Deputy Head takes names of those who are staying at the Salem Academy over the Christmas holidays. The first term usually ends about a week before Christmas.

The Salem Academy of Magical Arts has in its faculty an abundance of wise and talented professors. Each specializes in a specific subject. There are a variety of classes taught at the Salem Academy. These include both the core curriculum and the electives, available from third year forward. Some classes may be dropped in sixth year.

Numerious lessons are described, instructing the students in various branches of magic. Transfiguration, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Potions, Astronomy, History of Magic, and Herbology are compulsory subjects for the first five years. At the end of their second year, students are required to add at least two optional subjects to their syllabus for the start of the third year. The five choices are Arithmancy, Ancient Runes, Divination, Care of Magical Creatures, and Muggle Studies.

  • Transfiguration- Professor N/A: Transfiguration is the art of changing the form or appearance of an object, and hence this is a what this class teaches. Transfiguration is a theory-based subject, including topics such as “Switching Spells” (altering only a part of some object, such as giving a human rabbit’s ears); Vanishing Spells (causing an object to completely disappear); and Conjuring Spells (creating objects out of thin air). It is possible to change inanimate objects into animate ones and vice versa.

  • Defense Against the Dark Arts: Barnabas Maximilian Alman: Defense against the Dark Arts, commonly shortened to DADA is the class that teaches students defensive techniques to defend against the Dark Arts, and to be protected from Dark creatures.

  • Charms- Professor Thestia Merridew: Charms the type of spell concerned with giving an object new and unexpected propertied, and hence this class mainly consists on learning those sorts of spells. Charms classes are notoriously noise and chaotic, as the lessons are largely practical.

  • Potions- Professor Kari Cartwrite: Potions is described as the art of creating mixtures with magical effects. It requires the correct mixing and stirring of ingredients at the right times and temperatures.

  • Astronomy- Professor N/A: Astronomy is the only field of study at the academy that has a direct equivalent in the Muggle world. Lessons involve observations of the night skies with telescopes. Lessons include learning the names of the stars, constellations and planets, and their location, movements, and environments, and much more.

  • Arithmancy- Professor Esther Ayala: Arithmancy is a branch of magic concerned with the magical properties of numbers. Arithmancy lessons often include the memorizing or working with various charts and equations.

  • Study of Ancient Ruins- Professor N/A: he Study of Ancient Runes is a generally theoretical subject that studies the ancient runic scripts.

  • History of Magic- Professor N/A: History of Magic is the study of magical history. Topics have included goblin rebellions, giant wars, and the origins of wizarding secrecy.

  • Herbology- Professor N/A: Herbology is the study of magical plants and how to take care of, utilise and combat them. There are at least three greenhouses holding a variety of magical plants of varying degrees of lethality.

  • Divination- Professor N/A: Divination is the art of predicting the future. Various methods include tea leaves, Fire-omens, Crystal balls, Palmistry, Cartomancy (including the reading of conventional playing cards and the tarot), astrology, and Dream interpretations. Divination is often described as one of the most imprecise branches of magic. Supporters of the subject claim that it is an inexact science that requires innate gifts like the "Inner Eye". Those opposed claim that the subject is irrelevant and fraudulent.

  • Care of Magical Creatures- Leonard Gifford: Care of Magical Creatures is the class which instructs students on how to care for magical beasts.

  • Muggle Studies- Professor N/A: Muggle Studies is a class which involves the study of the Muggle (non-magical) culture "from a wizarding point of view." It also includes Muggle Art and Muggle Music. The only need for witches and wizards to learn about Muggle ways and means, is to ensure they can blend in with Muggles while needing to do so.

  • Flying- Professor N/A: Flying is the class that teaches the use of broomsticks made for the use of flying and is taught only to Salem Academy first years. The subject is the only one that requires physicality.

  • Ghoul Studies- Professor N/A: Students in Ghoul Studies learn about ghouls like poltergeists, vampires, veela, etc. and how to defend themselves from these creatures.

  • Alchemy- Professor N/A: Alchemy is a sort of composite subject between Transfiguration, Potions and Muggle Chemistry, focused roughly on the transmutation of substances into other forms. It is an elective, only offered to NEWT level students if the demand is sufficient.

  • Apparition- Professor N/A: Apparition is the magical form of teleportation in the wizarding world. Lessons are optional to those in the sixth and seventh years. In the wizarding world, performing Apparition requires a licence and may only be legally performed by people over seventeen years of age. The reason for the restriction is that Apparition is dangerous if done improperly: insufficient concentration may lead to body parts being left behind in an unfortunate side-effect known as splinching.

  • Art- Professor N/A: Art is a class where students paint, draw, and otherwise depict artistic things by controlling the paint and pencils with either a spell that repeats the same thing over and over or a spell that stands upright over the paper / canvas and draws in the direction that the wand moves. (Also includes Muggle Art)

  • Music- Professor N/A: Music is a class in which students are taught musical instruments and possibly sing in the Choir.

  • Magical Theory- Professor N/A: A subject taught to at least first years. It covers magic from a purely theoretical view.

Fifth Year Students
===================

Fifth years are typically fifteen to sixteen years of age. The fifth year is enormously important for students, due to the fact that it is the year in which they must sit their O.W.L. exams, which will determine what N.E.W.T. courses they will be permitted to take later on in their education. O.W.L.s determine what jobs they can apply for in their future careers. The fifth year is also the year in which students receive career counseling from their Heads of House. It is during this meeting that they will be advised as to what N.E.W.T.-level classes they should take in order to qualify for their desired career. Fifth year classes consist of Potions, Herbology, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, History of Magic, Astronomy, Charms, and two or more electives. Before the beginning of the year, one boy and one girl are selected by the Headmaster from each house to become prefects.

===================
Daily Routines
===================

The day begins at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast in the Great Hall. During breakfast, the mail arrives in a flurry of hundreds of owls. A bell chime signals the start of the first class at 9 a.m. The bell chimes again in one hour to signal the start of the next class.

There are four class periods before lunch (though NEWT student may have breaks during some of these), scheduled according to house. After lunch, there is another break and two more classes.[5]
Dinner is served in the Great Hall toward evening, after which the students are expected to be in their house common rooms for studying and socializing.
The students must be in bed or in the common rooms by a certain time, after which is called after hours. The times are different for different years (for example, fifth years are allowed to be in the halls until 9:00)

Not late at all. Im actually JUST about to post the OoC right now. :)

I was actually just about to start a similar alternate universe HP game in the Advanced section when I saw this. It's great to collab on something so open and with a great group so far

Awwww! I totally agree, its been pretty awesome thus far! :) :)

EDIT: Nice edit. :P
Betelgeuse, what happens when everyone doesn't put any points into those same stats that you said everyone picks as their weakness? Effectively, its the same thing. Plus, there's a lot on that list that I think should be. If youre an academically inclined person, you'd be good at a LOT of those things, just like Hermoine. However, say youre a physically inclined person, youd be good at a lot of things that arent on that list. Same thing as with people who are, say, socially inclined. Then you end up making a list that is far too long and complicated.

I think simplicity is the way to go here.

Also, just throwing it out there, I was going to make a character who was particularly interested/skilled in divination.

Aaaaand, Idk about the name of the school. Anyone else with ideas? :)
One quick question before I make my characters- Is this dorm expensive?
Name: Casey Reed

Age: 24

Appearance:

Bio: Casey was originally a computer geek working in a shitty hardware store making minimum wage most of his life. He was never particularly religious but he was definitely law-abiding. The honest man that he was, he had never cheated anyone or stolen from them. He had certainly never killed anyone. He had a few women but never settled down with one in particular. In 2029, Casey was drafted for the war effort in the middle east. Casey was shot and killed after he had killed three other soldiers on the battlefield.
Eveekitten, if you could make a layout, I would love you forever!

I think Im going to keep it as 5th year for now and see where it goes. Keeping everyone 5th year is a safe move because there's almost no way that it can go wrong whereas having different yeared students can possibly run into some trouble.
Damn Mach, I took a break to get food while typing my post. By the time I finished and hit submit, you had beat me to getting to Chenzor. Lemme go back and edit. >.>

EDIT: Okay, I changed my post. I think it works... lemme know if I need to do some more editing.
"This is not as comfortable as I thought it would be..." Casey groaned. He was laying across a large collection of unopened bags of marshmallows. The convenience store he was currently holed up in offered little 'comfort' and a bed of marshmallows, to Casey, sounded pretty awesome. Despite his failed attempt at making a bed of fluffy sugar, he couldn't help but grin. Only in a fucked up situation like this would doing shit like creating a bed of marshmallows ever be possible.

Giving up on his bed, Casey sat up and grabbed a bag of marshmallows. Ripping it open, he shoved two giant puffs into his mouth. There weren't many other options for food in the store. Most of it had been looted and, more than likely, wasted. The people who lost their shit and went on looting sprees were the ones who most likely died with the shit still on their backs. Oddly enough, the streets weren't littered with bodies. It was littered with various things that people were trying to transport before they were attacked.

Casey forced the giant pieces of sugar down his throat and looked around. The store was awfully lonely and the soft rain outside wasn't helping. Being around people had actually been what kept him alive so far. You see, Casey made sure that when him and whoever he was with at the time came across trouble, they died and he didn't. With them dead, these monstrosities, whatever they were, became preoccupied with eating their new source of food rather than chasing him. Though, with all his companions having expiration dates, eventually he wouldn't have companions anymore. Thus his solitude.

Not only did he need to find new people to sate his boredom but to ensure he would keep alive. He needed to come up with a plan. Reaching into his pockets he retrieved a pack of Newports and a small green lighter. Smacking the pack against the palm of his hand he began to lose himself in thought. If he left now and one of those things found him, he didn't have any get-out-of-jail free cards, aka people fodder. He could wait here until someone found him, but who knows how long that would take. Making a signal or sign was needless danger as it might just attract the monsters rather than the people. He needed to move... but how could he do it safely?

"Shit." He had packed the cigarettes too much. Annoyed, he unwrapped the pack and pulled out one of the cigarettes, turned it upside-down, and put it back in the pack. It was his 'wish' cigarette. What he wished for? I cant tell you! Lighting a different cigarette, he took a long pull. What to do? What to do?? It was such a bother to have to think so much. He wished he had some weed to smoke instead of cigarettes. He actually wasn't a big cigarette smoker... but he needed something.

Just then, the air suddenly burst with a high pitched noise. Startled, Casey dropped his cigarette onto his lap. Cursing, he scrambled to grab the cigarette without burning himself or his clothes. "What the fuck is that noise?" he said aloud. Having retrieved the cigarette, his eyes now scanned the poorly blockaded store front window. He could see those things moving around out there, obviously attracted by the noise. Or, better yet, distracted by the noise. Now was his chance!

Casey put out the cig and sprang to his feet. He knew there was a side door that led to an alleyway in the back used for loading. He quickly made his way to the back, keeping low to avoid detection. Emerging into the empty alley, Casey's heart was racing. He loved it. He darted through the alley and toward the street. Peeking around the bend, he could see the monsters clawing at the speakers that were responsible for the noise. Keeping one eye on monsters down the street, he quickly scanned the nearby buildings. Some of them were utterly impossible to get to unless he climbed atop some of the abandoned cars. The closest store he could make it to was another small convenience store. If he were lucky he would find some survivors, or, at the very least, an outlet to a safer/clearer road. If he were unlucky, it was littered with monsters.

It was then that Casey saw a young girl barreling down the street, a once-human monster at her coattails. Casey rolled his eyes as he saw her go straight to the store that he had his eye on. Of-fucking-course. Just my luck, he thought as she flew through the door, barely keeping the thing out. That girl was probably about 100 pounds soaking wet and this thing is definitely around 200. No way she's keeping it out

Just as Casey finished that thought, a death cry could be heard over the speakers somewhere down the road. That announcement had obviously fucked over several people. However, this new sound drew the attention of the monsters. The monster, as well as some of the ones that were at the speaker now flew down the road toward the scream. This was exactly what Casey needed. A new companion. He had to get to her. She was his ticket to keeping alive.

Though, he wasn't sure if it were safe. What if she locked the door? What if there were more monsters in that store and she was already dead? As he weighed the pros and cons a voice came onto the speaker. It seemed like the man was talking about a safe zone but Casey couldn't tell. He really didn't have time to listen. Finally, he made a break for the store. The window shutters were half closed and the only other thing that kept him out was some wooden boards. Quickly, he kicked one of the boards out and slipped into the store. After he got in, he glanced back to see if he made it in undetected by the things outside. As far as he could tell, he was safe. His next order of business was to check the store. The last thing he needed was to be shot in the back having been mistaken for a monster. He spun around and took cover behind an empty food shelf.

The announcement coming from the speakers was done now... but he had no choice. "Hello?" he said, risking to speak in a hushed voice."I know you're in here."
