wow, talk about close minded. I liked the idea, so honestly I find your comments hurtful

It's nothing against you, chukklehed. The reason I didn't like it is that it marginallized the whole "working together" theme that permeates the entire series. Even Shinigami, who is basically a God, is not at his full potential unless wielding a Demon Weapon... Having Soul kind of thrown to the wayside like that was disappointing to me.

EDIT: Having read the manga and seen Brotherhood... Yeah. The original FMA anime kind of pales in comparison, at least for me. I'm right there with you, Kilt, I really hope they come back to Soul Eater and bring the rest of the story to the screen.
I think what all this boils down to is that Jivusa needs to rethink the autonomousness of his character. My advice is to change the weapon form into something much more esoteric, where the only possible option for him is to be autonomous...

Her father was a weapon, remember? She was the child of Spirit (A Death Scythe) and the woman who I learned the name of once but forgot (A Meister). Therefore she has Meister blood from her mother and Weapon blood from her father, allowing her to fill either roll. Since something like that hadn't happened before, they assumed Maka could only be a Meister since her weapon blood was dormant.

I'm definitely with Cirus on this one. The reason she became a Meister was because she never showed any ability or potential to transform, and in the manga it stayed that way. The whole Maka-is-also-a-Weapon thing just came out at the very end of the anime because... Well, I actually don't know. I don't know why they ended the anime there at all. It seemed like an odd choice.
We have only seen two autonomous weapons in the series (unless you count Tezca? I think he did some things autonomously), one of which did not use his wavelength, the other of which is a Death Scythe, meaning he'd be on a whole other level whether he was autonomous or not. Any weapon that is not a Death Scythe cannot use soul wavelength abilities without the use of a Meister, and only a select few Meisters can use their wavelength abilities without a Demon Weapon.

There's a reason the whole Meister/Weapon thing exists, basically.

Now imagine if it was Remnant Enclave power armour that you were up against :P

I know, right? :P Even with a knife you'd be SOL.

Okay, well, maybe not Giriko. But Justin Law did. Law Abiding Silver Gun.

And, voila, the original argument comes back. Justin's a Death Scythe.

EDIT: By the way, why not make Eli something outrageous, like a Guillotine, if you want him to be autonomous? He doesn't seem to have any reason to NOT have a Meister...

Giriko wasn't totally autonomous. He could form his chains by himself, but to use his would wavelength he needed his gollem, which contained part of Arachnae's soul.

But, as I said, he was always more dangerous (it seemed) when he was being autonomous.

Also, has anyone else wondered how Justin Law fought before he became a Death Scythe? It would have been pretty difficult...

EDIT: He generated his chain without giving up any body parts... Ergo, Death Scythe, or something similar.

Giriko wasn't a Death Scythe. He was, though, a fairly strong Autonomous Weapon.

Was that ever confirmed or denied? Maybe it's just my headcanon, considering he'd been around for 800 years by the time of the series, and Arachne is no friend to witches...

Justin law is a death scythe, and I don't know who the other one is.

Giriko? He's the Demon Chainsaw, autonomous, loyal to Arachne... Ringing any bells?

EDIT: Also, Jivusa, a sword is a very easily wieldable Weapon, and there's nothing stopping him from gaining a Meister... Justin Law, on the other hand, is a Guillotine (which only someone like Shinigami could wield) and Giriko's chainsaw form is so huge he had to build himself a 20 foot tall golem to act as a Meister, and even then it wasn't particularly effective. He was always more dangerous on his own, because of his chain.

Autonomous weapons can. Justin Law and Giriko did, a lot, in the canon series.
Yeah, his arm is a good, reasonable sacrifice.

Those guys were also Death Scythes, however. Once you reach that point, things are a little different.
