Hmm. Well, really, it's only dead once everyone has given up. All I know is that Shadowcatcher, specifically, isn't interested in being a part of it anymore... As for me, I think I realized that we didn't have the details to back up the premise, and it all kind of fell apart in my head, leading to this lack of posts.

On a brighter note, I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you set up a new thread and revived it, as long as you put a little "inspired by Shadowcatcher" or some such. Do you think you two would be interested in running a new version of the game yourselves?
Hrm. I'm really having a hard time putting all of my ideas to paper (so to speak), especially after reading HOAL's first IC post. I think my thoughts on the integration would be quite contradictory...

I'm going to back out of the game for a little while, which is obviously made easier by the fact that I don't even have a character posted yet. I'll rework some of my other ideas, and I might come in with a student instead of the teacher I originally planned.

As for what I want, well... I believe that the school, as it has been described, would be well-served by going a couple of years past the high-school grades. Some of the students, and this is just my opinion, should already be fully qualified Overts (Overt=Magical/Subtle="Muggle" or nonmagical), and learning truly advanced magic in their preferred fields. Again, my opinion, but I think it would fit.

As for the details of how the classes would play out, I think the teacher players should get together and discuss if they are willing to do a bit of research and put effort into actual interesting-but-succint lessons... If not, the lessons should be relegated to the background, and we won't have to worry about who is in which class. Everyone can just pick one or two of the Four Arts as a main focus, and we'll assume that most people have taken DADA and Charms and what have you.

Nah, Kingsridge probably has its own tests. We need to come up with some acronyms... (B.U.F.F.A.L.O.? F.A.L.C.O.N.? I'm trying to think of something that's talked about in Shamansim, but those are too long.)

Oh, and I have a rather important question for you, HOAL. You say that this is taking place far enough into the future that the characters of Harry Potter are all either quite old or dead (so, 2050+, I guess), but when did the big reveal and the start of integration happen?

My character's mother played an important part in the original push for integration, and you say there have been "new generations", so... It was thirty years ago? More? Basically, part of the character's backstory is that she was among the first openly magical students to attend Cambridge, and I want her to be in her mid-to-late fifties at the time of the RP... So, if she was twenty-five or a little older when the initial integration happened, that would make sense, right?

She enrolls at Cambridge at around twenty-six or seven, and it's now thirty years later, so she's around fifty-six.
Shadowcatcher is probably still having problems with her/his electricity.

You're getting caught up on things, Firo. Kingsridge doesn't have to function like a traditional high school. They teach magic. Besides, by the time they are taking those fewer classes, they have completed the four years of basic "high-school level" education anyway, and are approaching classes in a post-secondary manner (meaning individual research takes up most of their time).

They are done with the general ed, they did all that in the earlier years. The next two are only about the disciplines they are most passionate about, and having fewer allows them to spend much more time on each. That makes sense, right?

EDIT: Overall, from enrollment to final, post-secondary graduation, students spend six years at Kingsridge: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and then two years of advanced study. Maybe there can be an intermediate graduation at the 12th grade level, for those who don't want to go through the advanced study period?

EDIT 2: This is still just a suggestion, though. HOAL has yet to approve or disapprove.
Well, great. Certain "overachieving" students might even use Time-Turners take an impossible number, ala Hermione in her third year... Maybe older students would be able to handle it better than she did?

Another thought I had when I read Tatsua and DAWNSTAR's posts just now was that the school could actually be something of a combination of secondary and post-secondary... What I mean is, it could go two years past the traditional American 12th grade, and graduating from Kingsridge could be equivalent to an associate's/two-year college degree, or something like that. It would definitely help to differentiate and codify the teaching style, and would help to make a better case for the curriculum I proposed above.

In the final two post-secondary years, I'm thinking that each student focuses heavily on their personal "core", and at the end they provide some kind of proof of excellence (a test or whatever) that allows them to graduate with full recognition in those fields, in addition to the blanket recognition from simply graduating in the first place.

Does that make sense?

EDIT: If this was put into place, it might give us a larger range of ages, as well, because some players might want their characters to be in those two final years instead of the earlier four. :) Just a thought.
To throw in a bit about the classes, remember that this is not Hogwarts, and isn't supposed to be Hogwarts. Kingsridge has a different style, and a broader curriculum... So, I think we should come up with our own system, and not just copy whatever Hogwarts was doing in the 90's. For example, since Kingsridge is supposed to be for older students anyway, having more choice in individual curriculum would probably be best (leading to students from various houses and grades being in classes together, depending on their preferences).

So, a revised list of classes (none of which are actually considered "core", except for the student's preferred of the Four Arts and maybe Magical Theory, which covers all of them) might look like this:
-Natural/Classical Arts
-Voodoo Arts
-Shamanism
-Oriental Arts
-Magical Theory
-Alchemy
-Transfiguration
-Potions
-Charms
-Herbology
-Defense Against the Dark Arts
-History of Sorcery
-Astronomy
-Arithmancy
-Study of Ancient Runes
-Divination
-Magical Flora and Fauna
-possibly more

And each student chooses (with the assistance of academic advisers and their Head of House) a reasonable number to take each year. So, not all students take every class, and some take the classes at different levels, as long as they believe they are able to handle the coursework. Maybe there would be a small number (three? four?) that they take every year, including their preferred of the Four Arts, and the rest are cycled out as they go along.

How does that sound?
