Interest Check

Hello All.

I’m looking for a single partner in which to create a science fiction themed roleplay. I realize that this is a very broad and general topic, so I’d like some input from my partner on what we’d like to involve, and what we shouldn’t. I’m looking for someone with advanced to near advanced writing skills, someone who is willing to aid me in creatively constructing our settings, locations, and play plots.

The Labyrinth

Terror fills the darkness of the Labyrinth. We don't know how we got here, or the why of it all. We don't know who is behind it. It's rather senseless. We know there are others, because every once in a while, we hear them scream. Horrible screams. Something lives in the darkness, hunting. We know our only means for survival is escape.

I'm looking for someone advanced level or higher to play this game. We will start off waking in the labyrinth, with no recollection of how we got there. We can discuss themes and genre as we go over the finer points of things.

A character sheet will be required.

A post sample will be greatly appreciated.

Circus of the Dawn

Voices whisper amongst the shadows, talking about the nightlife among the tents. Fanciful stories brought to life by youthful innocence and ignorant zeal. Who could believe the stories? The jugglers never miss, the tight rope walkers never stumble. The magician is a true master of illusion, while the strong man carries all over his broad shoulders. There is a fortuneteller who knows not only your future, but your past as well, and when she sings the soul weeps. They say the Circus is lost things, forgotten things. Who can believe it? And the worst of it, the most unbelievable of all, the ring leader himself…

Two characters set off one night to bring some excitement into their lives. Their lives are typical, uneventful, except for those concerns and cares we all face everyday. They want free of their selves for a night, as we all have at one point or another. They come to Mary's Diner, a small, out of the way diner in Alavance, GA, a small town a few hours drive from their hometown, only to discover from the owner there is a carnival in town. The Circus of the Dawn.

Interested, they decided to check it out. At first, they enjoyed it, lived up the nightlife. From the Ferris wheel, the world seemed so far away, their problems so insignificant. Before they knew it, it was time to leave, the circus was closing… dawn was coming.

Trapped in a nightmare, now they long to escape, but is it too late? Can they find a way out, or does the ring master have a few new souls to add to his collection.

My character sheet is up! Please find it in the "Characters" tab in the original post.

Preliminary character submitted for approval. History and appearance will be much elaborated upon if approved.

Name: Sara Mackenzie

Age: 16

Occupation: whatever, anything but prostitution. She scrimps to make money wherever she can, supplementing with panhandling, fishing food from the trash, scooping coins off the street, and squatting in whatever abandoned building she doesn't get kicked out of. Occasionally she manages a bed or meal at a shelter but the competition is fierce. She flaunts her age and gender as an advantage whenever she can to push to the head of shelter lines but that doesn't win her any friends.

Brief history : Sara's mother died about 8 months ago. She tried to hold onto their apartment by quitting school and getting a job as a cashier at the Walmart. But she could only manage that for so long before social services learned she was living on her own and decided to intervene. Sara, fearing she would get shuttled into foster care, pawned whatever had value in the house, packed up a few things, and took off.

How did your letter arrive and with what item: Sara was slumped against a wall down a mostly abandoned street. Her body was sore, she was tired, and caked with dirt. It had been a long time since she had slept in a bed or had a proper shower and that night it was looking like it was going to be one of those chilled ones that made it so hard to sleep. She was working up the energy to climb a nearby fire escape and check out the warehouse like building she was slumped against when the messenger found her and along with the letter he delivered there was also a key to a motel room. The motel wasn't far off, and while it wasn't some great fancy hotel it was serviceable, with a shower and a bed and a heater. One night of comfort and a chance to get clean was worth a lot to the worn out girl.

Portrait/Character description: TBD

Approved! If there are any additional notes you'd like to make about your character, go for it. You can simply add a "Notes:" section to the bottom of the CS if that's the case.

I would call her occupation "Panhandler" just to shorten it up. Since you mentioned that you'd elaborate if approved, I won't ask any questions at this point and just see what it is you add from here. Once you have it all done up the way you like, let me know and I'll add it in to the OP. :D
@Inda, I have some questions: where is this RP located and when? Like, what would the name of the city or town be??

This is taking place now, in 2016. The "dying city" referenced in the original post is the city where each character is currently living, and is inspired slightly by Detroit, Michigan if you need a reference point. If you do use Detroit as a reference point, do keep in mind in recent years the efforts to revive the city have made it a little more... lively, I suppose is the word?... than what I'm imagining for our fictional city.

Our city is called Leyden City and is located in Pennsylvania, near the border of New York and only a 2 hour drive away from Lake Eerie (that was not intentional, just a happy accident! lol).

Leyden City was doing very well during the industrial period of America. The slow death began in the mid-1960s, and sped up considerably by the mid-70s. Now the city struggles with empty and abandoned buildings, low economic growth, homelessness, and crime. There are attempts within the city itself to revive it, but nothing has taken off.

Despite this, there are still some amenities in the city that have managed to hold on and continue working, even if at a lower capacity than before. Maple Grove College is still in operation, and there is a local newspaper (The Leyden City Chronicle), a collection of public schools, a handful of local restaurants, the usually expected kinds of chain businesses, and quite a collection of local bars. There are old stage theatres, some of which are still running, and a single large, historic movie theatre. A handful of museums of various sorts are also in operation, but are constantly on the brink of shutting down. There is a public transit system that is also barely hanging on.

I am adding this information to the original post. Please be on the lookout there for this added information and a few reference photos if you need them.
still looking?

Sure! There will be a total of 4 players at this point: Inda, Ezekial Wolffe, Kobayashi, and Astarael42. Go ahead and get your character sheets in, and we can begin. Let me know if you have any questions or ideas. :)
Sure thing! Whenever the character sheets are done, just post them here and I can create a tab of them all in the original post. :D
Kobayashi, would you like me to reserve you a spot? We could even just get started with the three of us.
Still searching for players!
Considered it saved! We are now seeking two to three additional players.
