New Scotland Yard is the administrative centre for all the police forces in the United Kingdom. Whenever something has gone wrong, a spokesperson is dragged out to the front of the building to face the cameras. What does not get shown to the public eye is the interior of the building - specifically, a little room hidden behind a door that always seems to be locked in the basement. There, buried behind outdated computers and stacks of brown folders, sits the office of the Department of Paranormal Policing.
Some cases which are too strange to be believed and usually get laughed out of the filing system and into the bin find their way down here. Missing bits of paper with odd reports on tend to turn up in that poorly-lit room in the basement, and it is there that the men and women of the DPP do their work.
Among the department are forensic scientists who specialise in werewolf biology, psychics, clairvoyants, fairies and the undead - and even some 'people' who are so strange as to be indescribable. Among them is 'Detective Constable' Alexandra Rurikovovna, a vampire who claims to have known the original Rurik of 9th Century Russia. You have just been assigned to the DPP and Alexandra is your new partner - but there's little time to get to know each other, your first case is waiting!
