Age

Gender

Reputation
Kind of a bystander, and doesn't shove himself into situations where somebody else is about to get hurt because of their own actions. Knows what he has done is wrong, but has an idea that it's for a 'greater good.' He doesn't hesitate to threaten or injure somebody he deems a threat to himself or colleagues. Used to be a leader of an important group before his obsessions made them usurp him and send him to prison for crimes listed.
Appearance
Covered in bandages from head to foot, but wears clothing above those bandages. Has a sort of tactical jacket he wears, with a covering that he can put over wear his mouth is located, in case of harsh winds, and a hood he can pull over his head. Wears large boots to keep dust and other materials from scuffing his bandages. Wears cargo pants that have loose bottoms that he tucks into his boots, and fixes them there with various of laces, Velcro and zippers. Has a sort of poncho that he needs when weather gets worse.
His race wears typically normal clothes, but still have to make sure they cover up a fair amount, especially in the summer, considering the harsh conditions of their home planet as well as the sensitivity of their bodies. Underneath, their bodies seem almost like shadows, but a closer look reveals that they have skin that seems almost soot-like, with the same consistency as well. It is very prone to injuries, which is why they cover up as much as they can. As they do not have eyes, they can detect even the smallest shift in wind, which is another reason they cover up, as the wind can be harmful and irritating. While some, more modernized people of his culture/planet have switched to more reasonable coverings other than bandages, most remain with the bandages, for cultural and heritage reasons. They 'eat' through absorbing minerals in rocks, sand, water, etc. through their soot skin. Because of their planet's harsh conditions, they grew to be able to breathe in more than just oxygen, though they are at their best when they breathe in oxygen. Since their planet is very sandy, they are very good at digging, and can use it to get places without being detected. They can still sense whether it is light or dark, however, because of how their bodies react to light.

Height
6'6"
Weight
Due to less mass and more fragility of being, his race typically weighs less than most other races. He is 130 pounds, or 59 kilograms.
Personality
He is one of the less peaceful of his race. Due to his past, he is more prone to aggression and hostility. It takes time for him to trust someone completely as well, and he hides most of his emotions with a cold 'poker face.' Torture isn't something he usually resorts to, but if he deems it necessary, he won't be hesitant. He prefers more direct routes in getting what he wants, and believes complicated plans to be unnecessary when easier roads can be taken. Can be fairly impatient as well.
That isn't to say he doesn't have a softer side. If he trusts someone to keep secrets, he will be more relaxed and truthful around them. But, to gain his trust, he sometimes tests others in excessive ways, though he is less likely to do that now considering he is being watched over by authorities. He is less admiring toward authority figures as well, but mainly views them as yet another obstacle or possible ally, if he can trust them.

History
Was 'born' on a planet that was predominantly 'human-influenced' before they were largely wiped out. Lots of sunshine and heat were present as a child, and he came to like those more than the cold or the dark. Also lived in a city, though visited more rural areas often. As a result, he grew accustomed to loud noises and bright lights. The person who took care of him as a child (a sort of 'father'), eventually got in with a kind of mafia in the city they lived in. Eventually, he snitched on them, and as a result, was stripped of his bandages and thrown into river with cement shoes, until he dissolved. Was put into a foster home, before he ran away and grew up on the streets, until the same mafia that killed his father took him in to repay the ways in which he had helped them.
Rose up the ladder of the mafia until he was directly tied to the leader. He challenged him, and after many scuffles (including fights), slaughtered him after cutting both his arms and legs off, as retribution for his father's death. He became the next leader of the mafia. He managed to stretch it until its influence reached beyond the planet he had grown up on. After learning more about his race's history, and the way their origin planet had been invaded multiple many times by humans and what he called their 'pet races,' he grew to almost hate them. After finding out how they had taken many artifacts relating to his culture, he attempted multiple raids on museums and colleges that held the items, to try and get them back and put them back in his people's hands. Unfortunately, though he was successful several times at first, his obsession became too much, and his group betrayed him and he was sent to prison for his crimes (mentioned above). As he is no longer a part of the mafia, he has resolved to taking things into his own hands, through becoming a picker.
Due to his past, as well as influenced by colonialist invasions of his race's home planet (which he has actually never been to, only sent artifacts to), he dislikes humanity. He does, however, believe that they could have changed considering the many years they hadn't been involved in conflicts, and would like to see what they are actually like; that is, if it's all true.

Veslin
Lifespan
160 years
Home planet
Valence (where his race is from)
A very barren planet, minus the colonies built by the Veslin. Sandy, but cold because of their sun rarely coming up on the side the race lived on. Since they developed on a planet so dark, they had no need for vision, and never developed eyes or eyesight, as well as the fact their skin could handle only small amounts of sunlight because of its harshness. A very small amount of water is present on the planet, and not many trees grow on the dark side, because of the scarcity of water and the lack of sunlight.

Culture
They built their houses in the sands of their home planet, and some of their colonies had extensive tunnel systems. Art is very important to them, and they developed many styles and processes that they still use today, based off of patterns one could feel when feeling it. War was unusual for them, and peace was what they largely strived for, which is why Ven's more violent nature is unusual. However, they still realized the need for defence, and developed fighting techniques based off of the movements of the opponent, and how it affected the general 'wind' around them. They have a sort of sacredness for the wind, as it was important for direction and movement. There's a belief that everyone has a different sort of wind around them, revealing much about their personality and attitudes. They also usually have an extensive number of names, as shown by Ven's full name.
As their technology advanced, they were able to create much bigger colonies, developing more sturdy ways to make buildings underground. This also helped when humans started to invade their planet for its resources, as they were more able to find their way in the dark and dig through collapsed sandy areas. However, they were still no match for the advanced technology of the humans, and many colonies were destroyed, and art taken from them for its value and human museums. They eventually came to understand they could no longer compete against the humans, and surrendered to becoming another one of their colonized planets. Human cities were created, though they still 'allowed' the Veslin to have their cities, as well as helped them advance their own technology further. When the humans were supposedly wiped out, the human cities became barren, and their materials used for Veslin cities underground.
