@DarkwolfX37: The moment the original Anubis gives away his mantle, he'll no longer be recognized as Anubis by other spirits, since he gave away his original mantle. He'll be seen as another spirit entirely, with a new mantle, which can also be given away. But if you obtain multiple "versions" of a spirit's mantle, the benefits will be rather minimal, since each one is rather similar to the others and thus has a lot of redundancy.

I'm going to reword that section to say "versions" instead of "copies", since they aren't really copies.
Any idea on when the start'll be?

I'll try to get the signup thread up today or tomorrow.
Oh we're talking about factions now? Unknown God would probably be in Wandering souls. Even though he has strong relations with the Greek gods, he's still not going to be inherently Greek. Is it possible for him to be a Wandering Soul that has frequent relations with those in the Mythic Accord?

Yeah, sure, that could work.
Reading over soulshards, so I couldn't, say, have my spirit character give their soulshard to my mortal character and have them use it with any proficiency? Or could they use it well since they have a soul pact?

If your Soul Pact is good enough, the human partner would be able to effectively use his spirit's soulshard. I guess I should clarify that in the document.
@Wishful Stray: Whether she walks around with an animal's head or not is entirely up to you.
I think Sekhmet/Hathor(She needs a better name, can we change their names?) would probably be part of the Wandering Souls faction given the history between her and Ra.

I thought everything worked out fine after Ra got Sekhmet to stop slaughtering people by getting her drunk? Hathor is a major Egyptian goddess, so it's unlikely for her to not still be with the Egyptian pantheon unless a fallout happened relatively recently. If you can make the backstory work, though, by all means.

And she could call herself by some other name, but her name as Hathor would be the one that's the most widely recognized, so a lot of people would still call her that. It's the same for all mythological figures.
@DarkwolfX37: There's a detailed explanation on mantle passing in the document about rules of magic. It'll be more clearly stated in the signup thread.

Currently, the Wandering Souls are lacking in designated members, in its secret Council of Shadow (working title). So your Anubis/Zadkiel could be a member of that, if you want to try playing Illuminati or something.
Would a spirit with the mantles of Anubis and Zadkiel be plausible?

Well... Earlier I said that I don't really want a single player character to hog a bunch of mantles, because I want to make more of them available for the other players. But now that I think about it, nothing prevents you from just making multiple characters, each having one of the mantles you want... Then I guess the point would be to make more mantles available to other characters, potentially. So if you want a character who has multiple distinct mantles, you're going to have to put in extra effort to make the character really unique and interesting, to justify why I shouldn't instead make his extra mantles available to other characters.

Regarding Anubis and Zadkiel specifically... Zadkiel is one of the major angels in the Celestiarchy, so if his mantle fell to the hands of some neutral spirit, the Celestiarchy would be very determined to retrieve Zadkiel's mantle from that spirit, likely by killing said spirit. Anubis is a member of the Egyptian pantheon, and thus a member of the Mythic Accord, so having someone who is both Anubis and Zadkiel in the Accord would only spark hostilities between the Accord and the Celestiarchy, for reasons stated earlier. So a lot of Accord members would vote for Anubis to be removed from the Accord, to avoid unnecessary conflict, and then Anubis would have to go join some other faction. The Reclamation of Chaos is out of the question, since they only accept pure Neutral-aligned spirits, so it'd have to be either the Millennial Union or the Wandering Souls. Are you okay with all these implications?

EDIT:

Edit: Question. Given what the document says on spirits, are spirits able to change their appearance at will, since their bodies are made of mana? Or is it constant since it's perfectly attuned to their soul?

A lot of spirits have a human form and a "true" spirit form. But no, without some kind of shapeshifting ability, spirits can't change their appearances at will.

@JohnSolaris Alright, so I have read the documents restricting spirits, as well as the magic system (It's good to see structure there) but what about the political landscape? While I'm sure things like how the world governments have reacted will be mentioned later, can you tell us anything about the world's occupants? There was mention of fire elementals in the google doc, but are people rubbing shoulders with minotaurs on the subway, and if so, are they mindless beasts portrayed in myths or are the they just subject to prejudice on their daily commute to their job of trading stock?

Politics and other details will be elaborated on in the game thread. Seeing as we have enough people interested, it'll probably be up some time next week.

To briefly answer your question, it really depends on where you are, and which factions control the territory. For instance, Protectorate-controlled territories would be extremely unwelcoming against (non-artificial) spirits, while Celestiarchy territories would attack demons on sight. In a big inter-faction city like Millennial City, there'd be high degrees of mingling between all sorts of spirits, and they'd generally be accepted as a normal part of life. Of course, all sorts of discrimination and other struggles would still be prevalent, which are meant to be used as plot points.

My second question is regarding the enchantment of items. While it seems to be implicated with reference to perpetual motion machines, I want to make sure there's no ambiguity before asking if enchanting an item is a-okay, and further, if alchemy of some sort is allowed e.g. magic based human growth hormone or 'super adderall.'

Yes, you can have permanently enchanted items. Those are commonplace nowadays in the magitech that powers a lot of human society. Note that the enchanted item would be subject to the Seven Seals' power dampening, unless it's magically bonded to a human/spirit pair to get around the Seals. And yes, alchemy and magical potions are allowed, subject to the same power dampening.
How would a dual personal be portrayed?

I was thinking Hathor/Sekhmet since they're the same person.

You decide how split personalities work for your character. They may or may not be aware of each other, may or may not be able to switch at will, etc.

Huh, I didn't know that Hathor and Sekhmet were the same. Wikipedia was somewhat ambiguous about that, but I looked it up further on Google, and multiple sources do say that they're the same. So yeah, do with this as you will.

@JohnSolaris Is Logos an acceptable spirit?

Sorry, but I don't think so. According to Wikipedia, Logos is either a title of Jesus, or something related to God, neither of which are allowed. The Gnostic version has Logos paired with Sophia, and both of them are emanations of God or something, so that's not allowed either. Unless I'm missing something?

Are you allowing more players, and if so, would it be possible to play a person bonded to Cernunnos/Herne the Hunter?

Yes, more players are always welcome. And yes, you can play as Cernunnos/Herne.
Are the Greek Gods also split up in a similar manner? So I may know for story reasons of course haha

Oh, no, the pantheons aren't "split up". You should assume that every "main" god in any mythology belongs to its appropriate pantheon, which is a part of the Mythic Accord, unless stated otherwise. When those exceptions occur, it's because the god in question left their original pantheon to join whichever other faction.

As for Greek gods...

Zeus is a leader of the Mythic Accord, as you might expect. Hermes is a liaison between the Accord and the Millennial Union.

Typhon is a leader of the Reclamation of Chaos, and Echidna is another important member.

Hermaphroditus is a leader of the Millennial Union, and is merged with the nymph Salmacis as per his myth.

Oh, and Greek and Roman gods are the same beings, e.g. Zeus is the same as Jupiter.

EDIT: I edited the introduction post a bit. More specifically, a sentence was added that says magic and spirits were gradually forgotten after the Seven Seals blocked off interdimensional travel 2000 years ago, and the myths of today are what's left of records back then.
