Tom looked intently at Grace as she began to speak. He wasn't really sure if he actually had expected her to follow what he said and portal Angie up into the attic - he supposed he had got caught up in the adrenaline and panic of the situation and assumed Grace would feel the exact same way and immediately portal Angie up, where the three of them would somehow proceed to kick everybody's ass. So, as Tom watched Grace apologise and say she couldn't do it, he couldn't help but feel his face fall as the adrenaline and hope that he was feeling quickly leaked out of his body, as if someone had pulled a plug on it. He looked down at Grace and rubbed his hands over his face for a brief moment, before realising he was just going to make Grace feel horrible about herself, and stopped, trying to put on a confident front again.

At Grace's words, he quickly took out his burner phone and turned it on, the light shining in his face in addition to the light that was coming off the portal above him. "I can't call Powers... Powers is in Paris, it'd take him too long to get back, and by that time everyone might have been carted off to wherever they're being taken... And Angie will be found out soon, she won't be able to pretend to be flirty for much longer, she'll break..." Tom suddenly cursed as the portal exploded, and he also fell from the force of Grace falling on top of him, watching with sudden horror behind her purple hair as the phone slipped from his grasp, threatening to crash into the hard wooden floor. "Oh fuck, no!"

Tom activated his powers at the last second, sliding away from Grace and standing up quickly, and the phone stopped falling about an inch off the ground. He breathed a sigh of pure relief before standing up and looking down at Grace, who was getting a little upset. "It's okay... Don't worry, it's not your fault, it's nobody's fault..." He pondered what to do for a moment, before getting down on one knee and giving Grace a quick, gentle hug before letting go and standing up again, beginning to pace around the attic space, tapping the phone in his hand. After about a minute he looked up suddenly.

"Okay. I'm gonna send a text... A text to Christina! And some other people who's numbers I can remember. I can't call anyone, it'll take too long." He looked down at Grace for a moment, seeking approval, before opening up the burner phone again and typing in Christina's number, where he sent the following text:

"CHRISTINA, HELP! ITS TOM, POWERS SENT US ON AN UNDERCOVER MISSION 2 THE MAFIA AND WE GOT BUSTED, BRIE PATTY AND WILL ARE CAPTUTED, ANGIE WILL BE CAPTURED SOON, IM HIDING OUT WITH GRACE, COME BRING DIVISION X OR SOMEONE IM BEGGING U".

Tom quickly hit send. "Alright, shit, who else's number can I remember. I think I can remember Blake and Jamie... And Zee, I haven't added him as a proper contact yet so I still have to type it in all the time!" He quickly got to work sending out three more text messages. They were basically the same as the last one, but obviously addressing different people. He also told Blake to try and find Joseph instead of Division X, and added on a message to Zee to see if he could get in contact with Samson. Tom sighed as he sent the final text to Zee, sitting down next to Grace. Obviously he had no idea that Blake and Jamie were currently unable to answer his text.

"I guess we wait now."

Tom dusted himself off and stood up, but cursed quietly as his head bumped the ceiling, the space not high enough to accommodate his full height. He looked around at the piles of boxes and trunks, before his eyes flickered back to Grace, looking at her as he crouched back down. "No problem." He cursed and then paused for another moment. "Like hell anything bad is going to happen to them, because we're going to bust them out and then get them the hell out of this fucked up mafia complex. THEN, we're gonna come back with reinforcements and free any other heroes that these sickos may have trapped here!" He tapped his food as he gave his quiet rousing speech to Grace, but paused as he heard some commotion below.

Tom crouched down further to the floor, and spotted a small hole big enough to look through. When he did so, he spotted a sight that made his blood run cold - Patty was being forcefully dragged through the corridor below him by a girl with black hair, who he did not recognise at all. He supposed it was just another mobster, but it was odd that they chose this girl to do it, there were surely enough big hulking mafia enforcers to drag Patty. This girl looked about the same size. Something was clearly off here... but he didn't have time to work out what it was as the two quickly vanished out of sight from the small hole in the floor. Tom sat up, putting his head in his hands for a second. Fuck... They have Patty. They found her."

He looked down through the hole again, expecting to see Angie being dragged along a few seconds later. However, all that came out was just a steady stream of heavily muscled informers and old Italian men, no Angie. That must mean she didn't get found out! Well, that was one more ally in Tom and Grace's new mission to bust everyone out. But he had to find a way to get Angie up with them. Tom left the hole alone and started rooting about behind the boxes, off to the direction of the main hall. "Come on... There's gotta be one, there's no way that this could be the only part..." Tom didn't let Grace in on what he was looking for, but soon it spoke for itself. After he moved a bright red trunk out of the way, he spotted another hatch at the side of the attic. Bingo.

Tom leaned down and gave it a tug, which opened it up nicely. Tom then went rooting around in a few of the nearby boxes, looking for a flashlight, eventually finding and old looking one which took a couple of tries to turn on. He then gestured to Grace, and crawled into hatch. The torch revealed that Grace and Tom would find themselves in a massive, dark space which was evidently above the main hall. He could hear a cluster of noise down below, but it was a lot less than before. He shined the flashlight about for another hole, which, luckily he found. He turned it off and looked down it.

Angie was able to be spotted immediately with her head of jet black hair. Some mobster had his arm around her. Ah, so that's how she was managing to remain in the room undetected, using her powers to make this . Poor Angie though, Tom thought. She must be absolutely hating this right now. Tom was just glad Blake wasn't here, or he was certain that all hell would break lose. Tom stood up and turned to Grace, turning the flashlight on and accidentally shining it in her face for a second. "Oops, shit, sorry." He whispered, moving the flashlight back down.

"Grace, you need to portal Angie out of there right now." There was a strong tone of urgency in his voice. "Please, they won't see where the portal has gone and they'll have no idea we've gone up here, come on Grace, portal her up here, then we can go in and free the rest!"

Tom snickered again as the fourth mobster was pushed into the portal to wake up to an unexpected fate later on. Tom amusingly wondered if when they did wake up, they'd go and order a meal out of boredom. It was an amusing image. But Grace had found the location of the meeting! The cool undercover action could continue! The meeting's discovery was undoubtedly a good thing, Tom didn't think he could get away with nodding at any more mobsters he encountered in the corridors to make it look like he should have been there. The corridor leading to the big doors into the meeting was just as ornate as the last, perhaps even more so, a small chandelier hanging from the corridor ceiling. Tom also thought he noted some kind of hatch on the ceiling as he looking around, but of course that was the least of his concerns right now, as Grace peeked her head into the meeting hall.

"Blonde, tall, pretty face..." Tom muttered as he scratched his chin. That sounded familiar... who did he know who was blonde, tall, and handsome. He knew Samson who was tall and maybe handsome depending on who you asked, but he of course wasn't blonde. Tom continued to rack his brains. He knew that he knew someone by that description, dammit! But who? He didn't really register Brie and Grace talking as he tried to think about who the hostage could be. He shrugged internally and turned towards the door, as he watched Brie slip her head inside. Then it suddenly dawned on him... He knew who that description fit. But surely not, it couldn't be. That would be the most unfortunate set of circumstances possible, Tom knew that Brie wouldn't be able to hold herself composed if the hostage really was...

Tom heard her say the name, and he hissed loudly. "Oh, fuck! Brie-"

But of course, both Tom and Grace were too late, and Brie went barging into the meeting like a goddamn passionate idiot, now leaving Tom and Grace along out in the corridor. The cool undercover mission had come crashing down around them, and Tom heard the wave of noise coming out from the interrupted meeting, and then he heard Vinnie's booming voice commanding the rest to search the property. He also heard what sounded like Brie screaming, or maybe a yell. Whatever it was, Tom knew that Brie had most likely just been taken out. But how? Unless there was a powered individual in there, someone who was pretty powerful.

Tom put his head in his hands and groaned. "Fuck, fuck, fuck! Shit, no, we can't leave. We can't leave Will and Brie here to get kidnapped, we have to stay and get them back somehow... but we can't bust in there, we'd be fucked immediately." Tom glanced upwards and his eyes widened. He once again noticed the hatch. "Okay, okay, here's what we do. We hide out until the lockdown is over, then we come back out and bust everybody out. Okay? Okay, Angie can probably use her power to make herself look like somebody who doesn't need to be ID checked, or some shit, and then she can cover for Patty. Fuck, if they hurt Patty they're absolutely getting slammed into the ground..."

But Tom didn't wait for answer, and he grabbed Grace's hand and flipped gravity upside down, hitting the ceiling a couple of seconds later with a thump. He opened the hatch and crawled inside, then extended a hand to help Grace through as well. Once Grace was through, he flipped gravity back up the right way and closed the hatch as quietly as he could. "You got a torch, or something?".

Tom snickered, also waving goodbye to the mafiosos as they were deposited by Grace into Chick-Fil-A via a portal. He would have paid good money to see their reactions when they woke up and discovered they were missing their wallets, sunglasses and were in a horrible fast food restaurant bathroom, and if they weren't on a cool undercover mission he would have gone there and set up some kind of camera just to record it. But they were on a cool undercover mission, and the cool undercover mission had to go first. Tom snickered again as Grace's purple-haired head poked through the portal and invited them to go inside too. Tom stepped into the portal and immediately shuddered, not used to the feeling of travelling through space using a portal.

Coming out in the shed, Tom kicked a broom out of the way before stepping out into the sun, taking deep breaths and leaning over as he got over the bizarre feeling of portal travel. "Christ... That's fucking rough..." He shook his head before standing up fully, the nauseated feeling slipping away after about a minute. His eyes flicked around the well tended to garden that he was now standing in, before focusing on the door that Brie was already heading it to. He walked quickly to keep up as the trio headed inside the extravagant mafia mansion. "Man..." Tom said, looking around at the gorgeous corridor. "These people are loaded! I bet some of this art is worth thousands. For a moment he considered taking some off the wall - stealing from the mafia wasn't morally wrong, right?

But as Brie darted down the corridor he remembered he was on a cool undercover mission, and so he shook his head and got rid of the idea of an art heist. He went in a different direction from Brie, just for a second, to see if he could find the entrance into the meeting. He went off into another ornate corridor, around a couple of bends, before he was suddenly met with the sight of another mafioso patrolling the corridors. Tom kept himself calm and simply looked at the man, who regarded him for a moment before nodding curtly. Tom quickly nodded back, then the man walked off in a different direction. Tom snickered a little. He supposed that he looked like a mafioso enough to not arouse any suspicion. Or maybe it was the sunglasses... Yeah, it was probably the sunglasses.

While Tom was internally gloating about his encounter, he heard a yell nearby and then something heavy hit the ground. He quickly rushed in the general direction of the noise, having to go back and forth through a few identical ornate corridors, before he discovered Brie standing above the body of another mafioso, knocked out peacefully. Looked like she had also had an encounter, but hers had not gone nearly as smoothly has his. He shook his head as Grace appeared at the scene a couple of seconds after he did. "Shit, I heard the body hitting the ground from a couple of corridors over, the dude I saw probably heard it too."

He glanced at Grace again. "We probably should get to the meeting right now. Grace, can you make this guy join the Chick-Fil-A gang?" Tom couldn't help but crack a small smile at his own words.

Tom tapped his finger absentmindedly on the window of the car as the trio thundered after the mobster's car, passing the streets of Brookside as he went. As aforementioned, Tom hadn't spent much time in Brookside at all outside of a couple of missions, and as the car went past the run-down looking buildings and shady looking people standing on street corners, he gained a newfound respect for Brie for having grown up in a place like this and come out as a decent person. While Tom's early life had undergone it's difficulties, he was certainly lucky for being born into a moderate amount of wealth and privilege.

Tom had once again become so deep in thought that he had stopped paying attention, and when the car stopped he jumped a little, then again as he realised that they were suddenly at the Gugliano compound, without really having discussed what exactly they were going to do to get inside. They hadn't even discussed what fake names they were going to use... and they hadn't stopped to buy fake moustaches! Tom watched anxiously as he spotted the three mafiosos talking, and then as one approached the car. Tom was about to say something himself, but then he heard Grace whisper, and he clocked what they were going to have to do to get into the compound. The excitement built - taking out three mobsters in front of their own building was risky, but the risk was all the fun.

The next parts happened pretty fast. Brie shocked the first girl, who slumped backwards, before Grace whipped the car door open and stepped out herself. The male mobster obviously caught note of this, and began to walk over to the car, so Tom quickly opened the car window and flipped the flow of gravity sideways, so the mobster fell into the car window. Tom then made him fall upwards, where his head hit the ceiling of the car with a loud thunk, leaving a dent in the roof, before the man fell back onto the seat, unconscious. Pretty quick and pretty easy. Tom opened the car door and carefully pushed the man out, before getting out himself and beginning to rummage through the man's pockets.

He found a pair of expensive looking sunglasses, which he immediately put on, then the man's wallet. "Alright, so I'm gonna be..." Tom narrowed his eyes as he looked at the name in front of him. "I'm gonna Mario Palermo. Yeah, that's a decent name, I can live with that." He pocketed the wallet before dragging the man over to the other unconscious mobsters, standing up fully and turning to Grace.

"Yeah, get rid of them, fast. Let's just hope the meeting hasn't got too far in already."

Tom scowled. God, that Martino mobster was an absolute sleazebag. He reminded him pretty much exactly of Mr. Impressive, but perhaps ever so slightly better than the Wings of Law member. At least Tom didn't have to work in the same organisation as Martino... but he would be pretending to for a little while, he supposed. Tom imagined that if Blake was here, watching the mobster hit on and flirt with a clearly uncomfortable Angie, then Martino might end up with a lot of pretty major burns over his body. And it definitely wasn't like Tom would blame Blake for that.

The other development was the sudden arrival of Grace. Tom knew her from previous encounters, but her appearance here was still unexpected... He knew that she was no longer affiliated with ICOSA or the group that she was with before, but he couldn't help but be a little suspicious. Maybe ICOSA had somehow put her up to this, to make her peer in on this undercover mission? But nobody else but Powers and them knew what was going on, so that didn't make sense. Unless ICOSA somehow had surveillance in the HERO One hall... But that was also a stupid idea... Unless...

Tom had allowed his mind to wander about various conspiracies, and only replying to Brie or Grace in the bar with nods and vague sayings of "Uh huh" or "Yup" that he had barely noticed Patricia and Angie leaving with Martino. Well, she hadn't managed to get them all going together. They'd have to deal with getting into the meeting later, Patty and Angie would surely vouch for them when they arrived. Tom just hoped that Martino didn't try and funny business in the car. Tom was just imagining Blake's face when he inevitably told him about what happened on their secret undercover mission here. He was certain that he was going to be on the receiving end of an angry face from Blake. Oh well.

Soon they were out of the casino. Tom peered around as they left to spot the poker dealer from earlier standing at the bar and looking pissed off that he was apparently now not being gifted the freedom of a break from dealing the game. Tom smirked a little - they had avoided an awkward confrontation by a couple of seconds at most. Soon they reached Brie's totally legitimately acquired vehicle, and Tom climbed into the back seat next to Grace, looking at Brie as she turned to them.

"Damn right I'm ready. Let's go, if we lose track of their car we're totally fucked."

@Danvers @Hitman

Tom looked around the place that Brie had brought them to. God, this place really was depressing as fuck. He had never spent a lot of time in Brookside, and he was used to bars that were a lot less seedy and rundown. But they were about to find and intercept a mafia operation here, so he supposed that a seedy rundown bar matched the whole vibe of the operation. His job right now was to find and intercept a poker game... so he left the rest of the group behind and began scouting out where exactly this game could be. There were a couple of doors leading to back rooms, so he hung around for a little bit watching them. And, as luck would have it, after a couple of minutes he saw an overweight gentleman leave one of the rooms carrying a couple of poker chips. Bingo - this must be it.

Tom walked up to the door, looking behind him for a moment to make sure he wasn't being watched. He saw Patricia walk up to a guy and turned back quickly, not wanting to watch Patricia's best attempts to be seductive. After around 10 seconds of plucking up the courage, he rapped his knuckle lightly on the door. Immediately, he heard frantic shuffling around inside the room, and the unmistakable sound of poker chips colliding with each other, before the door cracked open and a seedy looking man with a poorly groomed moustache poked his head around the door. The man was extremely brief, only greeting Tom with a short and simple "Yeah?"

Tom cleared his throat before putting on the best gruff voice he could muster. "Hey, yeah, just got a message, they don't want people dealing the game for too long at a time, so I'm supposed to take over from you after this game." The man paused before speaking again. "Why haven't I heard anything about this shit?". Tom managed to think on his feet, replying. "Well, they think that certain players might be wearing a wire." He noiselessly mouthed the last word for added effect. This seemed to pacify the man who shrugged. "Alright. I could damn well use a cigarette break." The door was then closed back up again.

Satisfied, Tom went back to the bar and stood with Brie, and fairly close to Angie, who was chatting away to the bartender. However, Patricia soon arrived, looking frantic. The news that she gave them gave Tom mixed emotions. On one hand - he had just spent all that effort for basically nothing, which was annoying. On the other hand, Tom was not an expert at poker, and he genuinely didn't know whether he could have held his own dealing in hardened criminals without being found out in the span of around 10 minutes. He rubbed his chin, wincing slightly.

"Ah, shit... That guy who was dealing the poker game is gonna be pissed when he comes out and I'm not here... but sitting in a meeting is easier than trying to deal poker to mobsters. He turned back to the bar and ordered a drink, more than prepared to wait. "We just have to go into the meeting as quick as we can, or that guy'll come out and see me."

Tom and Angelica left the apartment together a couple of minutes after Brie and Patricia left, as they were finding out where exactly the Bateman Turnpike was - as neither of them knew. But the internet was their friend, and they had looked it up. Tom had offered to fly them both there, but Angelina had smartly pointed that someone could see them floating down and report this up the chain and the whole operation would be bust. So they elected for the much safer public transport.

But the Turnpike, as it turned out, was a complete bust. There weren't really any clues about what had transpired, either outside or in the establishments there. A coffee shop at the turnpike had dredged up the only thing that could potentially have been a clue - a small scratch on the floor. But Angelica noted that this scratch could have been made by anything. To avoid suspicion Tom had bought them both a coffee before they had left, so their reasons for being there looked innocent enough.

The journey back was sullied by the disappointing lack of finds, and both parties complained about this. Tom attempted to brighten the mood by making fun of her and Blake's relationship, but this only lead to Angelica using her powers and Tom swiftly covering up his eyes to prevent whatever it was that she was going to turn into before him. Tom didn't mention Blake again after that, so they continued to mutually sulk about how unsuccessful their detective work had been.

When they had arrived back in the main part of town, Tom whipped out his burner phone and texted Brie on it. ”Turnpike was a letdown, found absolutely nothing. Hope you had better luck on your end. Heading to Club 21 now.” Another couple of buses later, and the two had reached the club, standing outside and waiting for the others.
