The Obivec Isles: Battle for Abbaden [Lore Rich, Lots to Explore]

I give the goofier moments in DMC1 a pass mostly because it's a 2001 offshoot of Resident Evil 4 and we all probably have a good idea of the quality of classic Resident Evil voice acting. DMC1 is a massive improvement, at least in my opinion. And even with the whole light thing, I still really love the scene before it where Dante tells Trish that he only saved her because she looks like his mother. I find his delivery in that scene to be pretty emotional to the point where I consider it to be one of the best in the series, though that could be the rose-tinted glasses talking. The games also never really took themselves all that seriously, which provides a contrast with the wuboot developers who have over a decade of hindsight on DMC1 and still think their schlock is going to affect the entire industry.

Haha, I forgot about that Bill 'O Reilly fight. I think the whole idea would actually fit in with the golden age of Capcom games, even if it was in something more nonsensical like God Hand.

But yeah, I absolutely love how Nero went around with a Stand for a Devil Trigger and that sick double-barreled revolver that made things explode once you charged it up. His more clumsy and brutal attacks and his ton of different grab animations (and the fact that he fucking air guitars for a taunt) gave him a nice contrast with Dante's more skillful style. I think DMC4's story would be a lot worse off without him considering Dante's beyond giving a shit at this point and I think there's a lot of potential for Nero to grow in a sequel, especially with all the hints that he's Vergil's son.

Distorted Rant Impact

I can't believe that they try to pass off their character designs as better than the classic DMC when Donte looks like some lumpy crackhead with some shitty haircut that even the darkest recesses of tumblr wouldn't touch and they gave Vergil an edgy Anonymous mask and a fucking fedora (which was so ridiculously stupid that someone's brain started working and they apparently removed it in the re release by the way) and even then they have Donte looking more like the original by the end of the game anyways, so it's not like they can even stick to their position, not to mention how all the achievement names are shoehorned in quotes from the older games. And remember how they were going on about how the writing in that thing would be "Shakespearean" and it would change the way people saw video games as a medium and then it just turned out to be a shitty ripoff of They Live? And Mundus was just some shitty business man whose idea of an epic final form was to stick a bunch of fucking garbage on himself? And they had that shit where enemies were a certain color and they were invincible unless you hit them with a certain weapon because fuck that shit from the older games where you could use whatever weapon you wanted to create your own combos. Remember how Dante and Vergil originally had a deep rivalry that went down to their core ideologies that tied into the main theme of the series that culminated in this awesome duel on the edge of the underworld and I guess the wuboot's answer to that is for Vergil to be like "oh what if we ruled all the humans" at the very end of the game and then Donte just tries to kill him I guess because it's impossible to talk him out of such a well-thought out stance. And I guess they aren't even half-human anymore because fuck relateable protagonists and that awesome message from the old games about how compassion and humanity was what really made you strong. And like instead of being some sick Demon Jesus like in the old games Sparda is just some dumb pleb with horns in this one I guess. And also the heroes are so nice that they decided to kill a pregnant woman and then taunt the villain about it and unleash demons onto the world to just sort of kill everyone and ruin everything everywhere which was way worse than anything Mundus ever did in that game. And instead of a decent color palette they just vomit bloom and blue and orange at you like some shitty movie cover because god forbid someone come up with an interesting design. Like remember Nightmare from DMC1 and how it was like the best slime in any video game ever? and instead of any of the cool and creative Hells we got in the first and third game we just get some dumb alternate dimension shit because that cliche hasn't been driven far enough in the ground yet. Like god damn whose idea was it to hand this series off to people who fucking hated it and the fans and how did they expect this pile of trash to sell well at all?

I miss the old days when Nero was all the fandom had to bitch about. And even then I liked him.

But hey, DMC4 Special Edition was okay, and Hideaki Itsuno is apparently going to be announcing a new game this year, so maybe we can hope for a new Devil May Cry game to finally wash that reboot taste out of our mouths?

I also got Wonderful 101, Street Fighter EX 3, and some goofy PS1 survival horror game so I think I'll go and try to calm down a bit and play those.

“Just don’t spook ‘em and we’ll get along fine.” The cart driver said. He stared at Tirnea as she tried to bond with the horse. When it turned away from her, he simply shrugged. As she returned, Veronica and Serena were discussing their method of transportation. Veronica seemed to be somewhat unappreciative of it, asking why they couldn't just get horses of their own.

“Well, I am not the best with horses,” Serena said. “To say nothing of our companions. You should be very grateful, Veronica. I had to make my first journey on foot, back when I was younger. I find being able to rest my feet on a chase like this to be quite a novelty.” Veronica opened her mouth to retort before giving up, taking her helmet out of her bag and setting it down next to her with a sigh. Serena began to rest her eyes, though she opened them briefly to watch Tirnea as the cart set off and she struck the ground with her staff. The ride turned out to be somewhat bumpy, the cart occasionally shaking violently as it went along the roads of Tour de Rouge.

“That thing you’re doing with your club,” Veronica said to Tirnea. “What is it, exactly? Some kind of spell?” She was enamored with the bizarre, precise ways she struck the earth, like some sort of dance. She admittedly didn’t even know that much about staves, as the Crescent family was somewhat notorious back home for rarely using them, preferring to channel magic through some other bizarre means. Still, she thought her hammer was close enough to one.

“Thanks!” Rebecca said with a smile. “The exact details, models, and formulas are probably a bit boring and confusing to someone who isn’t well-versed on physics, magical mechanics, and Animus Theory, but I could probably run down the basics of Resonance Theory once we get a chance to stop. She’s my pride and joy, but hopefully I won’t have to demonstrate it before then.” She thought that maybe it wasn’t the best idea to be throwing that kind of information around, but The Choir never regarded Resonance Theory as anything especially important anyhow, so she supposed it was her way of sticking it to them. She listened as Chambala detailed her experiences with city life.

“Maybe people wouldn’t see you like that if you didn’t dress so… proudly,” Rebecca offered. “Not that I’m complaining, that is… I mean, well… Sorry, let’s just get out of here.” That certainly didn’t come out right… She sighed and shook her head as she waited for her friend to grab her things from the tavern. What a day this was turning out to be...

@lavulman Doesn't mean it's not true though xD I tend to have a rather suspicious view of any being modified heavily by men for the hollow ambitions of men ^^. Will be cool if it's all sunshine and rainbows though :3 Also on a side note I Really need to get going with writing down all the nifty little curiosly curious ways that Chambala figured how to work her enchanting.

Does this mean that you want more sketches of creepy Choir shit? Because that's what you're all getting next time I draw something! Dunno how I'd classify her moral compass, now that I think about it, but thinking about it makes me sad. Enchantment stuff doesn't, though. I got an idea for a good way for Rebecca to use those fire starters and I've been sitting on it ever since.

One of our drivers bailed so I ended up behind the wheel yesterday. We have a few things to do today now that we're arrived but I'll have time for a post at some point :)
