Avery pulled out a large soup pot and set it on the stove. ”True, and I definitely don’t have the money for it, but I’d like to spoil you all the same,” Avery said.

His smile was genuine as he looked at Kimiko. He turned his focus to cutting up the rabbit. The creatures had already been skinned, so Avery didn’t have to worry about that.

Kimiko’s next words made Avery’s smile turn into a crooked grin. ”I have many other ideas for you if you want to keep your hands busy.”

Cassi huffed a laugh and blushed when Nic called her silly. She flopped onto her bed and rolled over onto her side to text him back.

I’m not silly I’m… Cassi typed and then deleted the message. She curled in on herself, staring at the wall. She was about to type that she was in love. Goddess help me Cassi thought to herself and rolled onto her back. Was she falling that quickly for Nic? Was it even that quickly?

When it came to love or the normal things of human life, time was an irrelevant matter. Cassi had been around for nearly three hundred years. Time didn’t mean the same thing to her as it did to others.

Maybe I am, but it’s the truth. I’ll be glad to see you tomorrow.

 Cassi hit send before she finished her tea and stood. Cassi stretched out, and a comforting pull reached out through her body before she sighed and walked into the kitchen. Three cats trailed after her, playing and winding around her feet as she got them ready for bed.

Cassi looked at her phone after she set her mug in the sink. Her fingers brushed over her screen several times before she texted Nic again.

I miss you.
 It seemed silly. They had spent all day together, but still, she felt this emptiness beside her now that Nic was home.
