Barth took a deep breath as he steadied himself once more. He was of course disappointed that the throw had failed, but he was still glad he had chosen the course of action that he had. Two things had been accomplished by the act. The first was the fact that just as he had hoped Nyma manage to injure the critter when it lunged out at her. The second was it showed him a way to hopefully lure the beast out again since it had decided to scurry back into the surrounding tree’s and webs.
While his partner turned her gaze towards the treetops his own scanned along the ground. He needed to find some object, not to be used as a weapon but to use as a rudimentary tool. It was beneficial that they were currently deep in the forest, as it lead to there being more than a few branches scattered around the ground. After a moment of searching he found one of sufficient length. Reaching down he picked it up, holding it tightly in the grasp of his right hand.
Before he got the chance to begin putting his plan into action he was interrupted by Nyma giving him instructions. Under normal circumstances he would have no issue with this, but with the order she gave it was impossible for him to follow. He had to make a choice back at the cave whether he would bring his staff or one of the spears. Without the means to carry both conveniently he had opted to leave the staff behind.
”That isn’t an option, I had to leave it behind when we decided to go on this excursion.” He spoke at the same volume as her, though it didn’t really matter as they hadn’t moved very far out of their positions.
With his explanation out of the way he resumed putting his plan into action. With their current setup the only directions they faced extreme danger from was above them and behind, the latter applying primarily to him as he was behind her. From the spider’s reaction to his spear being thrown it seemed like it focused on the areas where the web was disturbed. Sure, it may have been luck the first time. But perhaps luck would shine on him a second time and let his plan work. If not they would just keep improvising.
Barth leaned around the side of Nyma and tossed the stick in his hand out in front of her, throwing it directly into the webbing that was located in front of his compatriot. He hoped this would cause the spider to strike from that direction and into her spear a second time. As he waited he sent out a silent prayer, asking for lightning to strike twice in the form of his luck.

His wardrobe isn’t anything atypical. He wears the jonin flak jacket just as many others do along with black pants and sandals. The only significant difference between his attire and that of a run of the mill Ame shinobi is that he often wraps his legs from his ankle up to his knee.
Unlike some, Teijo was not born in a clan. His parents were just regular shinobi of Amegakure who dedicated their lives to the service of their village. With his birth his mother, Fujiyama Kaiya, took a leave of absence to raise him. While she loved her child dearly she didn’t coddle him. There was always a bit of distance between them. Teijo was not planned and despite doing her best not to, Kaiya could not help but partially blame him for putting her career on hold. His father, Fujiyama Junji, on the other hand began taking on even more missions in order to keep their income at a reasonable level. Due to this Junji spent very little time with his family, having seen his son only a handful of times during the early years of his life.
Things changed substantially when Teijo became old enough to enter the academy. With him spending more time away from the house his mother rejoined the shinobi ranks, decreasing the resentment she felt towards her son though she remained distant because of her work. His father meanwhile shifted from taking on countless back to back missions to gaining a posting as a borderguard. Not as an official borderguard jonin, just a supplementary member.
During his time in the academy Teijo followed every order and rule given by the instructors to the letter, a trait that had been instilled in him when he was young. He had discovered that if he listened to his mother her mood improved and she spent more time with him rather than punishing him. This obedience also helped with his classes in general as it allowed him to focus on his studies. By the time he graduated he had an above average grasp of Taijutsu and Ninjutsu compared to other genin.
The next couple of years were spent with his assigned squad, learning the fundamentals of being a shinobi. He worked well with his team members for the most part, though as he aged an aggressive side of him began to emerge. He preferred to deal with problems head on and he had some difficulty thinking through the consequences of some of his more reckless actions. This second quality was largely ironed out during his time as a genin after his recklessness put a mission in jeopardy.
Shortly after he turned 14 his mother was killed while out on a mission. At this point the family as a whole wasn’t tightly bound, neither Teijo or his father were stricken with grief at her passing. Teijo was saddened by the event, but no more than if an acquaintance had passed. Two months after this found him promoted to Chunin. This was partially due to the threats that had been levied by Konohagakure against the Village Hidden in the Rain. Most of the mission he took on were escort missions and it was during his first one that he made his first solo kill. As a genin he had never fought an opponent one on one. Many more kills would follow over the course of the next year and a half.
It was while he was 16 that the tension between Konoha and Ame finally reached its breaking point. The battle that erupted was fought along the border between the two nations and lasted for a grueling 15 days. The fighting was nonstop. Teijo fought alongside his father throughout the engagement, both saving the other’s life multiple times. By the grace of the sage both of them survived until a stalemate was finally called. Konoha and Ame had both suffered heavy losses without gaining any ground. Following the battle mutual respect had formed between Teijo and his father.
Despite the prowess he had shown in the closest thing to a war Ame had experienced in recent memory, it took another year before Teijo was promoted to Jonin. They wanted him to get more experience under his belt before letting him take the test. Once he was promoted he joined his father as a supplementary borderguard, though unlike Junji he did not only work the border. He took on other missions on occasion.
While leading teams on this other missions, normally a squad of Chunin, his respect for rules and the chain of command were shown to have increased since his days in the academy. While he was willing to listen to the suggestions of his subordinates he always made it clear that it was ultimately his choice how they accomplished the mission. Insubordination was not tolerated, a lesson he had learned at the hands of his sensei.
A few months shy of his 20th birthday, Teijo’s father fell sick. It progressed rapidly, eating away at the older Fujiyama’s vigor until he was little more than a husk. It wasn’t long after that he finally passed away. Unlike with his mother’s passing, Teijo did grieve the loss of his father. The two had grown closer over the last few years and to have the chance to learn more from him stripped away damaged him.
The thought of taking on the most dangerous missions he could briefly crossed his mind, however he knew that his life was not his own to risk needlessly. He had always been devoted to his village, just as his parents were. So rather than indulge his selfish desire he continued how he had before. Working the border along with other missions.
By the age of 23 the last remnants of the damage caused by his father's passing had faded. He had also been promoted to being an official borderguard jonin. Much like every other mission he had taken he proved to be vigilant in his new posting. His aggressive nature had also been tempered over the last few years. While he still had a temper he knew better how to control it, a necessity with his promotion. The eradication of intruders was allowed, however it was meant to be a last resort rather than the immediate response.
Nothing of significance occurred until he was nearly 30 years old, which was when he met Tamai Ayuri, a civilian woman a few years his junior. The two fell for one another and a few months after beginning to see eachother, Ayuri became pregnant. Worry consumed Teijo when he was told, not only would he be bringing a child into the chaos that was the Elemental Nations but he feared that his child would have a similar upbringing as he had. This fear was soon resolved by Ayuri, she had no qualms about staying home with the child as he was bringing in substantially more than her anyway. While this didn’t completely ease his concerns, it did help. Within the next year their son was born, Fujiyama Tanzan.
Over the next near decade Teijo spent his time split between his work as a borderguard and helping Ayuri raise their son. He made sure to be more present in Tanzan’s life than his own parents had been. After much discussion he and Ayuri agreed to enter Tanzan into the academy when he reached six years old. That was nearly four years ago, and with his son nearing the age of graduation Teijo decided it was time for a change in his life. So he requested to be removed from border detail and be assigned a genin squad.
▸ Personality:
✓ Devotion
His entire life he has been devoted to the betterment of Amegakure and serving it to the best of his ability. In recent years this devotion has extended to his family.
✗ Strict
His respect for rules and the chain of command has turned him into a very strict man. Insubordination is not tolerated and at the first sign of it he will do what he can to snuff it out, just as his sensei had done for him so many years ago.
✓ Disciplined
Due to his many years of service as a shinobi it is difficult for Teijo to be shaken up or unnerved.
✗ Temper
While not as prevalent as it once was, he still has a temper that flares up. Typically this is reserved for insubordinate actions now
✓ Straight Forward
He doesn’t believe in subtly, while this was reflected in his physical behaviour in his youth it now manifests in his day to day life as well. He believes that the quickest way to reach a resolution to a problem is by facing it directly.
✗ Tactless
This is linked to his straight forward behaviour, he suffers from a lack of diplomacy. He isn’t going to kiss someone’s ass.
✓ Resolve
Once he has set his mind to a task there are very few things that will prevent him from accomplishing it, or at the very least doing everything in his power to do so.
✗ Stubborn
He has gotten used to doing things a certain way and it can be incredibly difficult to get him to change his views.
▸ Dreams and hopes:
x For his son to become even stronger than him x To help Amegakure expand and grow to rival the other villages x Make more acquaintances among the Ame Shinobi x His genin squad to reach the rank of Chunin
▸ Desires:
x To be a better father for his son than his own x Add to his repertoire of jutsu x Find more ways to help Amegakure x To be a proper sensei for his squad
▸ Fears:
x The destruction of Amegakure x His family resenting him/loss of his family x Dying like his father x Failing his genin squad
▸ Motivations:
For most of his life the largest motivation for Teijo’s actions was his devotion to his village. He served Amegakure faithfully. In recent years his motivations have evolved to include doing right by his family. Fortunately as of yet there haven’t been any situations in which the two drives conflicted.
I suppose I should wait for Crusader this time so that Barth doesn't mess up the plan....then again his actions did cause the spider to leap into Nyma's spear. Hmmm...
@Crusader Lord Good, I'll have some backup then and Nyma can be like great this Goblin is an idiot
Edit: For the record I was originally going to have Barth do what Nyma ended up doing. But I didn't want to wait for Crusader and I figured I may as well take a chance with the throw. It would be cool to be a throwy guy.
