<Snipped quote by Kierkegaard>

I've got this one. Slight bending of history with him being alive, but since he's not a major figure it doesn't change the world. Plus, there's nothing I can find on him but one picture, so it won't be a copypasted wikipedia article.

<Snipped quote by Kierkegaard>

Firepower?

How's a Polish cavalryman turned underground resistance fighter sound?

That sounds like exactly what we need.

Also- I'm a huge sucker for lesser known historical figures. Bring him in if you can, and throw historical record to the wind!

I'm sure Aaron will have his hands all over your character in no time. XD

@Kierkegaard Thank you very much!

That, plus we need more firepower in our roster. Right now we have a badass SS spy and two lanky nerds.
Would an amputee Wermacht Sergeant volunteering at the university for medical research make sense? Had an idea in mind.

Sounds promising. Feel free to PM ideas or post them here.
Loving the characters, everyone.

Would be cool to get a political activist character, or at least someone who is not complicit with the Third Reich. Regardless, we can probably start once we get a fourth.

@Obscene Symphony I can imagine Aaron's magical mishaps terrify his coworkers, especially if the skin on his face decided to go transparent. Very imaginative, well done.
Name: Klaus Foerster

Appearance:

Klaus looks like he was stretched at puberty and never properly filled in his gangly form. Tall, blue-eyed, with an uncontrollable mop of blonde hair, he manages to meet all the Nazi standards of “Aryan perfection” while…not. They made Klaus take his spectacles off for this photo, which is probably why he's squinting.

Age: 27

Nationality/Ethnicity: German. Klaus is partly Jewish on his father's side, but passes for Aryan.

Political Affiliation: Klaus is vaguely aware of what's going on outside of Germany's borders only to the extent that he knows it's affecting funding at the university. He's not thrilled about the war, but prefers to keep his head down and concentrate on his research.

Occupation: Assistant Professor of Theoretical Physics, Humboldt University of Berlin

Personality: Klaus is mildly autistic, scatter-brained, clumsy, and more than a little naive. He has a gift for social tactlessness. He’s skittish, very particular about little things (god help whoever misplaces his work pencils), and easily anxious. Deeply appreciates classical music. Likes cracking bad jokes at inopportune moments. He lives for his research, and could spend days in his lab without talking to anyone. He’s avidly enthusiastic about physics and incredibly excited about magic, but has very little patience for politics or other factors that interfere with his work.

Magical attributes: It’s been several months since Klaus was first exposed to magic in the lab, and frankly, he’s getting scared. He has a form of telekinesis over which he has absolutely no control. He’ll wake up in the middle of the night, levitating two feet over his bed. Random objects in his vicinity have begun floating unpredictably. Anything made of glass in his apartment has spontaneously shattered. Things are especially bad when Klaus is anxious or scared, but it’s embarrassing enough for his clipboard to float out of his hands in the middle of conversations.

Background: Klaus earned his degree in theoretical physics at Humboldt University five years ago and has never left, nor does he intend to. Over the last decade he has been an undergraduate, graduate student, teaching assistant, instructor, and finally assistant professor in the physics department.

In 1940, Klaus became the principal lab assistant to Dr. Jakob Engelhardt on a project on thermonuclear fusion. Several months ago, however, Dr. Engelhardt abruptly fled the country when the Jewish faculty at Humboldt was abruptly fired. At 27, Klaus became project leader of a German effort to develop an atomic weapon.

They found something better. They found magic.

Klaus was present at the first, terrifying lab incident, when three lab assistants were injured and one was killed. He was present when the board decided to continue the project- he, in fact, was the project’s most ardent defender. He’s been present at every subsequent experiment and simulation since, and spends every living hour in the basement laboratory trying to decipher the origins of this mysterious power source and how to tap it.
CS Template

Name:

Appearance: (Photo optional)

Age:

Nationality/Ethnicity:

Political Affiliation: (Is your character a Nazi sympathizer? Uncomfortable bystander? Civilian just trying to keep their head down? Make their political views clear here.)

Occupation:

Personality:

Magical attributes (if applicable): (Researchers or people otherwise closely related to the Humboldt University projects will have inexplicable magical qualities about them. Unlike most RPs, our players will have a very difficult time learning to control their magic, although it’s feasible that they get used to it enough to channel it at will. It’s impossible to predict how magic will manifest in any individual. Think of it as the character becoming a “gravity field” of magic, if you will. For example, people could begin levitating, causing objects to float, or spontaneously combusting at no harm to themselves. Just remember that magic is chaotic, unpredictable, and terrifying. Initially, it’ll be more of an inconvenience than anything, but it’s conceivable that with enough practice someone could start to control it at well.)

Background:
"'Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another." - J. Robert Oppenheimer, 1965.

Germany, 1941

It's the eve of World War II. Hitler is waging lightning wars across Europe. France has fallen, Great Britain is besieged by air strikes, and Jews across Europe are fleeing persecution. In both the United States and Germany, scientists are scrambling to discover new military technology, something that could end the war once and for all.

Here’s where we deviate from history. Forget nuclear physics. Our characters stumble upon a far more terrifying discovery: magic.

Magic

Magic in this world isn’t some cutesy thing that is randomly inherited. We aren’t dealing with “elementals” or “spells.” Magic is an unknowable source of power and energy. It’s terrifying. It’s chaotic. It’s unpredictable. And it’s just been discovered in a laboratory at the Humboldt University of Berlin.

Think of it as dark matter, but scarier. Radiation, but even less predictable. This is an untapped source of energy that seems to exist on another plane altogether, and it has the researchers baffled. People who don’t have advanced degrees in theoretical physics don’t have a chance of even grasping its existence. This is a force no one has ever dealt with.

The scientists certainly can't control it very well, if at all, even in a laboratory setting. Accidents happen. People are hurt. Those who are exposed to it start developing strange abilities. Repeated exposure to magical particles has left some scientists with bizarre magical attributes. They're floating at random, setting things on fire, walking through walls. They don't know what's happening to them. Researchers don’t know if they’re excited or terrified.

The Third Reich, however, is thrilled.

The Plot

But one thing’s for sure: the military potential is tremendous. Yeah, you see where I’m going with this. Magical nuclear weapons could be the end of civilization. The scientists know this. The Nazis certainly know this. The plot, then, boils down to a motley group of German scientists and their allies trying to keep magical secrets out of Hitler’s reach.

The plot possibilities, really, are endless. We could have a struggle to defect to the United States. We could have scientist-led resistance groups trying to take down the Third Reich from within (White Rose, anyone?) We could have a plan to assassinate Hitler. I have an idea of where the plot is going, but am down to hash it out with other play.

Misc

This will be a more intricate RP that will require careful planning in the OOC, so I’ll limit it to a group of 4 or 5.

We'll try to stay as historically accurate as possible, but some deviation from record is inevitable. Most of the action will happen in Berlin near the capitol of the Third Reich. Some roles I have in mind:

- German scientists who struggle with loyalty to their country, sense of self-preservation, and ethical principals
- Activists bent on using magic to take down the Third Reich
- Magically-endowed German Jews in hiding
- Nazi spies infiltrating the university

It’d be great if we could fill those roles, but don’t feel limited. Feel free to propose ideas in the OOC before working on a CS.

For the CS template and more info on magical abilities, jump over to the Characters tab.
Meanwhile, I'm going to shamelessly promote this here if you're like me and have time on your hands because the semester's over.

@Kierkegaard Never fear, there's a girl there to give Klaus his booze XD
