Plex seemed to be a pretty wordy individual, but Ruby was listening intently. She had never actually met an alien before snd she was interested in learning about him and his planet.

As the others said a bit about themselves, Ruby’s excitement grew. A lich! An exorcist! A demon! A reaper! It was one thing reading about people like them in books, but actually meeting primary sources was something else entirely!

The group started moving to their destination, Cal sprinting ahead. Ruby followed to the stairs, laughing. She didn’t want to turn down the challenge, but she had practically run a marathon to get to work and decided to conserve her energy by walking.

On the way, she messaged her brothers in their group chat.

Ruby: omg guys i just met my team they’re so cool aaaaaaaaaaa

Soon enough, her phone started buzzing with replies.

Ricky: yoooooooo

Leo: any cute girls?

Miguel just responded with a sticker of a pigeon.

As she walked up the stairs, she chuckled at her phone while typing out a reply.

What Could Go Wrong?

Despite her confident words, Ramona was terrified. Her hands were shaking so much, it was a wonder she could keep her grip on her knife. Even though she felt terrible, she would only feel worse cooped up in the cafeteria.

Ramsy’s words made her laugh a little, “I think if anyone’s going to die, it’ll be me. I’m, like, the least badass person ever.”

Plus, if we’re in a horror movie, they love killing off lesbians, she wanted to add, but decided against it. Nobody here knew that about her. Nobody at all, actually. She had kept her orientation a secret ever since she had stopped denying it. Logically, she didn’t think anyone would give her shit about it, but she was still afraid to come out. Plus, if Lila knew she liked girls, she might put the pieces together and recognize Ramona’s crush on her.

She started shaking a little harder, thinking about the situation. She didn’t want to die before she could come out.

No, stop. You won’t be any help to anyone if you’re freaking out.

She took a few deep breaths, trying to calm down. She hoped no one had noticed her mini-breakdown.

Momo must have blinked, because everything was over in a heartbeat. She thought that she noticed a big baby? Once she was sure that no one would be fighting anymore, she released her monkey friend into the wild, saying, “Be free!”

She remembered that she had left her suitcase and backpack when she ran away. She jogged back to the center of the field. Thankfully, they were undisturbed. Looking up, she finally noticed the headmaster speaking to all of the students.

Momo blinked again, and suddenly she was in a building, presumably the school.

“Woah!!” She hadn’t been expecting that to be how they would be transported. She had assumed they would float up on a magic carpet or a dragon or something.

She only half listened to the headmaster’s speech, distracted by her rats, who were startled by the sudden shift. Could you really blame her, though? They were her babies and they were scared. She did hear, however, that she would be rooming with someone named Lilly.

When the speech was done, Momo wondered how she could find her roommate with only a name to go on. But, as it turned out, Lilly found her. She was the kitsune that Momo had met before! Awesome!

“Yeah! Let’s go!”

She put the rats on her shoulders. Chanel stayed where she was, and Coco climbed up Momo’s hair and settled on her head.

A soft, unsteady voice spoke up.

"I'll go with you guys."

Ramona had calmed down considerably, and her face was determined, even with the remnants of tears on her cheeks.

Lila turned towards her, "Ramona..."

"I want to help out. Safety in numbers, right?"

Lila gave her a doubtful look.

"Don't worry," Ramona stood up, taking a knife from the table, "I'm not helpless."
