║ Name ║ Eren Koide
║ Birthday & Age ║October 1st, 1996 (age 20)
║ Gender & Sexual Orientation ║Female (transgender) / Homosexual
║ Occupation ║Thrift Store Cashier
║ Appearance ║Eren pretty much looks like the exact midpoint between masculine and feminine. She’s skinny and angular, with almost no body fat. Her face is youthful, with dark brown eyes and expressive eyebrows. Her skin is pale, with a few freckles, and she has a scar through her right eyebrow (from falling out of a tree when she was young). Eren’s hair, naturally black but dyed deep red, is short and sloppily cut (she does it herself) with an almost perpetual bed-head. Her wardrobe can generously be described as lazy. Eren mostly wears band t-shirts, distressed jeans, and jackets at least two sizes too big. She wears a lot of black and other subdued colors, like maroon and olive green. She has a tattoo on each wrist, a
My Chemical Romance spider logo on the left and
her favorite piece of manga art on the right.
Her stage outfit consists of a white button-down shirt, black suit jacket, black jeans, combat boots, a bright red tie, and black fingerless gloves.
║ Personality ║
The thing that stands out the most about Eren is her sense of humor. It’s… slightly worrying, to say the least. She often jokes about depression, suicide, and the meaninglessness of life. The way she talks about dark subjects can be deeply concerning, but it's honestly harmless. Laughing about her personal issues and nihilism is pretty much the only thing keeping her from spiraling into a nervous breakdown. Behind the dark jokes and apparent callousness, though, Eren is a very open-minded, genuine person. She's easy to get along with and she always means what she says. Though she has barely any control over her emotions and mental state, she’s actually pretty good at giving advice.
║ My Dreams ║
"Make some art, have some fun, and maybe make enough money for hormone therapy.”
║ Name ║Nami Koide
║ Birthday & Age ║October 1st, 1996 (age 20)
║ Gender & Sexual Orientation ║Female / Asexual
║ Occupation ║Beauty Store Associate
║ Appearance ║ Nami’s face looks very similar to her sister’s, but more round and feminine. She has an average body type, short and modestly curvy. Her hair reaches her upper back, with straight-cut bangs and thick waves (It takes her about 45 minutes every morning to get her hair at least manageable). She wears plenty of goth fashion, dressed in mostly black and dark colors. She likes skirts, dresses, and knee-high tights. She wears jewelry often, usually necklaces and rings with skulls and other morbid designs. Her outfits are always mostly black, with highlights of one other color, typically red or purple. She likes patterns, partial to plaid and houndstooth. She has a tattoo of a
planchette on the back of her neck.
Her stage outfit is a white lolita-style dress with red highlights, a frilly headband, a medical eyepatch, gauze bandages wrapped around her arms and legs, and black creepers.
║ Personality ║
Both professionally and socially, Nami is the face of KUROGURO. She’s much more friendly and charismatic than her sister, but just as morbid. She revels in horror and gore with potentially unsettling enthusiasm. She exemplifies the trope of the “perky goth.” Nami is incredibly caring, feeling a need to help anyone with problems, often ignoring her own needs in the process. She isn’t one to freely show her more negative emotions, preferring to just grin and bear it and pretend everything is fine. Because of her desire to be a support for her loved ones, she doesn’t like showing any perceived weakness.
║ My Dreams ║
“To have fun and make a career out of something I love!”
║ Autobiography ║Eren and Nami were always close-knit. They were those twins who were always together, dressed the same, and sometimes pretended to be each other. The latter never worked, though, because they were different sexes. This fact always left Eren confused and a little frustrated. He always felt more comfortable with femininity, and calling himself a boy never really felt right. When bringing this up, Eren was met with skepticism from his parents and support from Nami. The twins often bonded over music, singing duets while Eren played simple tunes on the piano. They were fairly normal kids, until they were in middle school and made three hugely important discoveries: alternative music, anime, and the internet.
Everything changed for the Koide twins in middle school. They found alternative subcultures and dove headlong into them. Basically, they went through the dark-edgy-emo-scene-
"IT'S NOT A PHASE MOM" phase. Eren started wearing dark eyeliner at all times, Nami wore neon tutus to school and wrote dramatic poetry, and the duets they'd sing changed from
Hannah Montana to
My Chemical Romance. Anime was another one of their shared obsessions. They were those rare Japanophiles who were actually Japanese, which gave them plenty of popularity among the other kids going through that phase. Their travels on the internet led them to LGBT communities, leading to Eren's earth-shattering revelation.
He was actually a
she. Casually bringing the matter up with her parents (without incriminating herself), Eren found that they were the absolute
last people she should tell. They seemed to see transgender identities in the same light as mental illnesses: something very unfortunate that required therapy to fix. She told Nami, though, who naturally welcomed her new sister with open arms. The two matured quickly, and by the end of high school, had fully shed their shared “hardcore” phase. The next big change in their lives happened when they were 18 and Eren bought an electronic keyboard.
With their new keyboard, the sisters’ music took on a whole new level. Using a computer, they could produce new sounds, like other instruments and various synthesizers. It was then that they started actually recording their songs and posting them on YouTube. At first, they only posted covers, mostly of alt-rock songs and anime soundtracks. Their synth cover of
A Cruel Angel’s Thesis was their first song to get them any kind of attention, and they gained more fans with covers of
I Write Sins Not Tragedies,
Tokyo Teddy Bear, and
Kuusou Mesorogiwi. Their musical style was sort of dark Techno meets J-pop meets Emo, and their voices produced beautiful harmonies. They ended up having a modest following online, but not enough to gain attention outside of the fringes. During this time, they had been writing original songs, with Eren composing the music and Nami writing lyrics. They never released any, though. As they posted more covers, they started developing a brand, giving their videos a visual style and creating personas for themselves. They received multiple comments encouraging them to make their hobby into a career, and like fate, they heard that Endeavour Records was signing new talent. And thus,
KUROGURO was born.
║ Reputation ║KUROGURO only has a small following online. They are largely unknown even among other YouTube musicians. Though few, their fanbase is supportive and devoted. There
do exist multiple fanfictions about them. Some of them ship the twins together. Eren and Nami find it weird, but flattering.
║ Extra information ║Though KUROGURO hasn’t officially debuted yet, the image they have in mind is a darker take on Japanese pop idols.
