If you take mind then we can assume Serenity could create Vortex.
A no to it being a conduit, energy can't be a conduit for energy, it may sound fun but if she has energy then she can do so herself without the energy loss, which would be the case if she channeled energy through a conduit.
We're working on it, I would say we have a bit of a rebalance in mind, please give us a couple more days and we should have everything up and running.

@Cirus Could you please explain in more detail what you mean by Vortex being an AI ? You mention that it also serves as a power source and can't really exist either outside of a crystal matrix or without Serenity. Problem is a sentient mass of energy is basicly a spirit not an AI. Not to mention something like that, if powering machinery, would technically use it's own life force to power thus spending it, so if you could also talk a bit about how that works without actually killing Vortex I'd be grateful, since the time it could power anything would be relatively short at least according to my sources. I just need a bit more detail on the inside work of it or to me it'll continue looking like a spirit since it requires a focus (the crystal matrix) or Serenity (the contractor, person it's bound to).
@Aqu I mentioned it to you when we were talking about the reset or rewind, whatever you call it, on skype.

I forgot to mention this before but as it concerns magitech and the mana batteries. For one I was thinking that actually building it would require magic knowledge students would not have yet not to mention the tech part which can be acquired.

As for spirits, as we saw or I hope at least, the table of spirits Bee posted, one can assume there are more and less powerful spirits. Thing is a spirit can use the mage if they are not trained, by this I mean the more powerful spirit can and will not form a contract with someone weaker, not to mention they might just take the mage over.

The mana batteries... I thought they would or rather could only be used to power magitech devices not mages, but even if, using an external source of mana that is not attuned to a mage can or rather should create anomalies. This should prevent limitless mana pools, in theory at least. One of the symptoms could be drunkenness, I mean that they would get drunk if used mana batteries to power spells, maybe not right away, but the more mana is taken from a battery the more intoxicated the mage becomes.

@Cirus Well a user of a few particular schools can mix them or their effects, but not take it as a different school altogether. Like Bee said, just have the schools that you mix and it shouldn't be a problem.

These are just my ideas so feel free to discuss them. Before I forget, it might be true that magic school threads die out quickly, but the school portion can be just a prelude to let the characters socialize, the combat after or even while at the school can be done in class or as additional quests or simulations. Again just an idea.
Sorry I've been busy lately with the workshop I was in so I couldn't really drop by here. I'll try listing and answering any questions that I can and giving the suggestions I haven't yet.

Edit:
This might be long but bear with me.

First of all, Omega couldn’t really even appear before other people because he was being limited by the story, his background and frankly that was the idea in the first place. The flashbacks were supposed to partially introduce the character without making confusing posts that are taken out of context. Not to mention no one really knows what he might do or not, so saying he might save one character and forsake others is kind of missing the point. What I made Omega do was greatly limited, consulted and influenced by Bee, so I wanted to point that out. This is enough on my character I think all should get the idea now that he was behaving less like a PC and more like an NPC by now.

This is what I wanted to get out of the way before I talk about the magic and system.
I have a few ideas and I’d like to discuss them with all the players and GMs. This is open to debate and not really what is supposed to be takes as what will happen.

With that out of the way let’s talk. This is chaotic as hell so ask if there are problems with what I wrote.

First of all I mentioned the idea of the school because the characters should learn about their powers, however the way I saw it, and portrayed it, the world would basically be reset. That is the characters would have no knowledge about the other world and would be in a more peaceful times. There they could learn to control their powers and maybe later they could go on to the peacekeeping force or stuff. But the premise was that they’d not know the things of the time before the “reset” that is to avoid confusion and to not make them go mad. After all if you had abilities you knew how to use and suddenly be thrown into a world with different rules… yeah not fun I’d say.
Anyhow that’s the idea for the school, well my idea. There they can learn about their magic, the system, maybe do some small missions or quests inbetween o things like that. Who knows.

I saw another thing mentioned was the limit on the mana pool and things like that. I mentioned before, I mean in the previous RP Bee ran, that mana pools are bs, I mean by that the fact that how big is the mana pool you have, no one knows that as we are not using numerical values. Limiting this by saying the younger ones have a smaller pool is a bit missing the point. After all then an adult who is untrained in magic would have a bigger pool than a child who trained in magic use for years. I think everyone can see where I’m going with this. I don’t want to propose we start using numbers or whatever else to track.
I think we can assume everyone has a magic pool but can’t tap to its full potentials due to lack of training. Still age might play a role, but I mean in mental stability which can also be trained. But before people start saying their character is a prodigy or has a strong mind, remember that this is supposed to be fun and if you say that they excel in one area they should, at least at the beginning, be handicapped in another. This will have to be talked over more.

So for the magic pool etc. I propose that we assume that the pore experience one has in the use of magic, here I mean proper training and such, the better they are at channeling and properly building spells. By this I mean also that one shouldn’t assume they’ll be able to cast higher grade spells right of the bat even if they train more. This is just for the casting of spells, you can use more the better you are at managing your resources, this comes with experience and practice.

Next point. After talking to some other people who actually use the system, I would like to limit the amount of schools one can use, by this I mean either to limit what the characters can cast or the amount of schools that can be chosen from. That is to create less confusion for the players, not to mention to balance things out a bit. To this we should either use the rules as they are, or provide our own limitations and explanations for the schools.

Another point is that probably no one really knew what they are limited to as the information was not given. Not to mention that the rank the players started by as, as one of the people said, able to destroy a large city given the abilities and level of power in NWoD. To this I’d propose to limit them to the base rank or even below that. I mean they’d be able to use the schools they choose but not really do a lot with them. Like novices they’d have to learn spells and train in controlling the magic. Also the ranks should be looked over so we don’t end up with too powerful PCs.

Also we could use some kind of tools for magic, be it enchanted books or gloves or whatever, so it’s not like they can use it anywhere.

To sum it up.
Magic pools limits etc. a big nono, let’s limit it according to experience and knowledge they have about the magic they can use. For the school limit the amount the characters can use or at least the power they have. Everyone (well aside from the teachers) start with a really basic skill in magic so they don’t start chucking fireballs at each other or things like that. Limit the amount of damage or influence the ranks have or limit what the characters can do.

Sorry if it’s jumbled, it’s late and I really have not much processing power to list more. Generally just learning from the ground up, till a point should be good. I’ll try thinking more later. But with the courses and other things I’m in I might be able to drop by only once a day.

Share what you think and write your own ideas. I’ll try helping as much as I can.
No drama, there are problems Bee needs to sort out. That's all I will say.
Bee, I'm mad at you, you should know the reason already. I'll be posting after I cool down. After all I don't want to make Omega do things that might be bad for him.
Posted, hope I didn't go overboard with what I did. I only used all available resources... ok not all I still have some tricks up my sleeve just in case. >.>
If there are problems just say so.
Unnoticed by anyone the two familiars who depleted their mana reserves retreated back into the shadow, however that was not for protection but to return to their master and father Omega, who at the time still kept the spirits at bay despite the appearance of the trio short after the familiars returned to his side. Omega looked at the people before him, he had time, a lot of time, after all he was no longer in the world of man, the “gate” which appeared along with him just before thanks to the Mega-Demesne, made a boundary, it created a sort of portal or space where the realm of spirits appeared or could be traversed to. No wonder so many spirits appeared when he didn’t call, they just came to meet their master, the one who treated them more than just companions, more than equals, he treated them as family, something you can’t do unless you are no longer wholly human.

Time passed differently for Omega now, it slowed, the realm accommodated for the myriad of spirits who wanted to interact with the sage, after all this realm was part of him as he was part of it, so he understood the will but also knew just how dangerous this place could be for those it turned its back to… even to Omega himself. The sage looked at what was going on in the realm of man calmly, he saw Jonathan kneeling, seemingly out of power but also a different feeling wailed up in Omega, he somehow knew Jonathan was struggling inside, but should manage, that is what the sage believed, he trusted Jonathan as he observed him for a long time even before they met.

This however was not the time to debate the internal turmoil or problems of his friend. Omega himself had to go back to the mindset he had so many years ago when he took lives of many, yes, he became the assassin again, once more to deal with those that crossed him. Once the grenade was in the air, releasing the alternating pulses of light and shadow, Omega just looked at it, time was slowed for him enough that what he saw didn’t disrupt his concentration, though normally it would as he was still a mage. The sage turned his cloak off, it not only hid his magic but dubbed as a limiter, so he wouldn’t use half of it. Now he redirected his power elsewhere. “Link established.” a duo of voices confirmed in his mind, the transfer of his power to his familiars cores begun while in his mind he already had an appropriate blueprint prepared, which both cores would materialize.

Unknown to Omega his appearance also changed, his body was enveloped by something else than the materialization process of the guns. One of the spirits, Grave as he called himself on the rare occasions he spoke, linked with the guns, whether it was by design or on his whim, he empowered Omega with his gun wielding abilities and skills, the sage accepted this as it seemed there was a strange bond between what he created and his contractees. Omega’s appearance changed ever so slightly his coat shifted and changed shape, his hood molded into his mask, which also changed its form, tightly enveloping the sages head, a different pattern on the front.

Omega targeted the pulse grenade Waiting for it to emit a dark pulse and he shot, the bullet would hit the device as it emitted light so as it got destroyed the shadows would grow longer enveloping each person’s shadow, thus creating a brief link with Omega’s gate. Who in turn exploited it by smuggling a little tracking shade, neither a magitech device nor a familiar, but both at the same time, into the shadows of Li and the enemy martial artist, though the sage debated putting one into the person using pistols as well, but decided against it. The reason was that too many would get noticed no matter how well they were designed to be hidden. Still he also put a decoy, into the shadow of the young man, this one was special, it was designed to be found as it seemed the target knew otherness magic. This should divert their attention from the other ones, if not there were other ways to track someone especially if Omega knows the wavelength.

Omega wouldn’t or rather couldn’t follow with timespace, after all he was technically in another dimension than the others, this however allowed him to get shoot aimed shots at the enemies, this time instead of the round he used before, which was a HEAP or rather a High Explosive Armor Piercing round, but a more CC type one. These ones were charged with paralysis, root and chain magics, that is non-lethal electricity charge, freezing and Omegas shadow bind spell. With the help of Grave and firing from within the gate gave the bullets a much higher velocity than normally, not to mention more than enough time to aim even with Grave’s godlike marksman skills.
Just write out or explain how they suppress magic, do they block mana from being produced, or from using mana for spells or do they just make you unable to concentrate to cast spells?
I'm helping with a move, so that's why I'm not saying much.
