New vampires are incredibly volatile. It takes weeks or months for them to get under control. Jonathan is going to be better prepared emotionally, but that doesn't mean he's going to be much better behaved than usual. He begged Elizabeth to keep him from hurting anyone, and that's what she did, but keeping him restrained lead to injuries.

I'm still confused about the quote. After Violet found out Elizabeth was still alive? Did she assume Elizabeth was dead, the way Jaspin talked about her? And that was before Jaspin 'got over her' and presumably stopped talking about her?
