Bio

Hi. I'm Matt. You could say I'm a Case of Identity...

1. The Important Stuff: Faith and salvation

I am a Christian. I believe the KJV Bible and that God is real, Jesus died for me, Jesus rose again and offered salvation to the world. Heaven is real, Hell is hot and the only escape is Christ. I accepted salvation the only way you can: by admitting I was a sinner (and I still am), believing that Jesus died for me and rose again, and calling on Him to save me. Anyone can do it anytime and be granted eternal life.

"Matt, why are you saying all of this?" you ask.

Because last time I was here, I did a crap job of establishing that and just tried to 'fit in.' I'm going to add a little more of this to my characters and to my signature, because it's the right thing to do and because there's freedom on these kinds of sites. Not to an extent that interrupts/derails the story, though. Your game, your rules.

2. The Actual Bio:

Hi guys. I'm Matthias Emmanuel Angel, I'm 24, and this is where I spend time when I'm not doing other things (church, homework, studying, video games).

///
What I like:
-Landscape Management (my major)
-Guitar (over a decade of experience and not much to show for it)
-PC Games (gave up on Xbox, no regrets)
-RPGs (I play them too often though)
-Water instead of soda (oooo look at how healthy I am)
-Google SketchUp (awesome 3D models, free download)
-The number 23 (it's the best number)
///
What I don't like:
-Profanity (especially when it's just filler in comedy)
-Lewd content and porn (and anyone bragging about it)
-Gory movies (how are they going to get butchered this time?)
-Jerks (you aren't a jerk, are you?)
-Insects (kill them all)
-Dying in video games (and forgetting to save)
///

I realize, of course, that this site doesn't have limits on profanity of lewd content. No worries. I'll work around it, and won't join up with RPs rated 18+. If you feel like it will be a problem, let me know BEFORE the RP starts.

3. Other Internet Presence:

You can find me in a couple other places.

Armor Games: MattEmAngel
Steam: club_blizzy
...and Comments here, of course.

See you in another world.

"Okay. I'll do it," Matt replied. Acting before he could talk himself out of it, he rushed for the freedom of the nearby street. He checked his back, watching for cameras, snipers, anything. To his surprise, no one appeared. He wasn't sure if he should be relieved or even more worried. How could these people let them slip out so easily? Especially with the scientist. She would be a liability by now. His head was spinning with questions and fears, but he forced them out of his head and made for the bus station.

He slid into the crowd immediately, mumbling an "Excuse me" to the nearest person whether they deserved it or not. The station times were printed on a large sign, and, reading it quickly as possibly, the next bus would should up in around seven minutes. It would be the longest seven minutes he had ever endured. His heart dropped as he realized he had no money. How would they get onto the bus? Maybe the scientist had some? It was the only thing he could think of. He looked back towards the exit at the two women and nodded, holding up seven fingers. He immediately ducked back into the crowd, taking a seat beside a woman and child.

A newspaper was lying unused on the bench and he snatched it up, feigning interest on whatever was happening on Page A4. The woman kept checking her watch and Matt used every chance he got to sneak a glance at it. He was going to be on that bus. The women would have six minutes to decide if they wanted to join him or try something else and hopefully bring some money. His wallet was...still in his pocket! Matt smacked himself in the head, immediately regretting it as his hand touched the wound. He had a few dollars at least and a credit card. Enough to go wherever this bus was going.

Matt took a deep breath, then dashed forward, sliding across the hood of a car and onto the cracked sidewalk that seemed to stretch on forever. The air mask was rubbing against his neck, irritating the skin, but he didn't need it now. He reached up and tugged on it for the hundredth time, trying to loosen the straps, and continued down the street. Even now he was impressed by the amount of damage nature could do in its slowest and most peaceful form. Natural growth had splintered the sidewalk, crippled the buildings, devoured cars and buses and painted everything else in a variety of green tones. The nearest street sign was partially obscured by a thick vine, but he managed to make out most of it. He was almost there.

He sighed. All he could think about was Amie Jane and what had become of her. Much had happened to him since the Apostate, but even with the shock of the event, the punishment that followed and the losses that came with it, he still couldn't shake his best friend from his mind. He hadn't heard a single thing from her. Granted, the power was off, and cell phones were a waste of space, but she still hadn't made contact. Rather than spend the weekend at their shared apartment, just off the University of Albany campus, Amie had decided to visit a long-time friend in Queens. It was a monster of a journey, but scrounging together what resources he could find, including a military satchel, an air mask, several bottles of water, pop-tarts (the only "unexpiring" food he could find), kneepads and a knife (which he had managed to lose two days ago), he had worked his way there, steering clear of Central Park for now, although Amie had mentioned visiting it. If she wasn't at her friend's apartment, he would check there.

Matt's eyes widened as he saw the crest of a tan-and-brown building in the distance. The apartment complex. He was less than a mile away. Double-checking his surroundings, he headed for the building at double pace, being careful to stay on the sidewalk. The olive drab satchel he had salvaged was bouncing lightly against his leg, reminding him that he was dangerously low on food. He would be able to find some at the flat. Hopefully he would find Amie too.

Holy crap your OPs are long. Are you expecting this much per post?? I though it was going to be a paragraph or two. Granted, I CAN write that much, but it wears me out sometimes.

Awesome. Looking forward to this.

Considering that the cult is being led by a borderline genocidal dictator, it is unlikely that there was much of an "early phase" where the rules were lax, and even if there were and he left, they would not have let him leave so easily if at all. Granted, once the "grid" is off, it would be much easier to slip under the radar and live somewhere else, but likely that, if he had escaped (and he knew how the CoG worked), he wouldn't be picking a place to stay for any length of time.

But this is not my RP, so the genesis of the cult is up to you. I would like to know, though, how they survived the Apostate, or if there is a connection of some kind. Perhaps our Annihilator has more power than we know?

Also, where will the whole RP be occurring? I'd like to experience some character interaction at some point. One of my favorite parts of RPing is letting part of my story be decided by a stranger.

I was thinking of rolling up a hippie farmer who might have been a former CoG member, but I'm still workin' on that.

I get the feeling that you don't become a "former" member. Considering their motto and end goal (to eradicate anyone who isn't a CoG), your character would die if he tried to defect/leave. You could try for a "narrowly escaped and is being hunted" story, but I dunno. I kind of like the idea of them being steady: you either are one, or you're a target. You can't join and you can't leave.

Has anyone signed up to be one of the CoG?

So far I see eight sheets with four male and four female. First time I've ever seen a balance.

Name: Matthias Angel
Gender: M
Age: 23
Pre-Apostate Occupation: College Student
Equipment: S&W 686 .357 Magnum revolver (0/6), shoulder holster, half-mask respirator, canvas satchel.
Satchel: Magnum ammo (0), Bottled water (2).
Personality: Calm and withdrawn. He has no problem talking to people but generally distrusts people, since you never know what someone will do to survive.
History: Matt was a clean-cut college student before the Apostate. No booze, no drugs, no late nights out. He studied computer science and graphic design and was well on his way to a successful career. The Apostate occurred in his Senior year, just months before his graduation.

Matt was born into the most average family possible. His father worked, his mother was faithful and he was an only child. The only real disaster for him happened when he was four: his father was killed in a car accident. His mother was left to find a job and raise a boy on her own. Unfortunately, the loss of real discipline in the home had a negative impact on Matt very quickly. He became disagreeable and rude, ignoring his mother when he could get away with it, since she no longer had the energy or time to keep him in check. By the time he reached high school he was a loner. No friends, no interest, no ambition. His mother had told him that if he didn't pass his classes he would be kicked out of his home, and since he didn't get along with any of his relatives he accepted the terms, which meant solid C's. Matt's father was smart and had opened an account with interest to pay his way through college, but as far as he was concerned college was as pointless as school. At home he would lounge around, spending free time drawing mindlessly, gaming or sleeping.

Then, in his junior year, a girl sat next to him at lunch. He ignored her immediately. Girls were completely out of the question in his life, and they generally got the hint quickly and left him alone. To his irritation, and surprise, this girl did not. She grinned and almost seemed to enjoy it. She had introduced herself as Amethyst "Amie" Jane, transferring to his school for her junior and senior year. She was a pleasant, optimistic person who had decided that no one should be alone, regardless of their attitude. Unwilling to spend the energy to tell her to buzz off, Matt dealt with her sitting beside him at lunch every day.

Very slowly she began to change him. He began mumbling to her occasionally, usually to inform her of his annoyance, only to have her smirk and remain seated. It evolved into a few sentences per week, then per day, until she had an actual conversation with him. The trend continued through their senior year. Amie had been interested in computer science and, since he had no better ideas, he followed along. When college rolled around, Amie made an interesting offer. She was transferring to a university on a full scholarship, but she had nowhere to live. She wanted to rent an apartment, since her house was two hours from the college, but it was expensive and she had no friends near enough to room with her. She asked if Matt would be willing to move in with her, paying half the rent and living just a few miles from a university. Matt was looking forward to moving away from his mom. He begrudgingly accepted the offer on the condition that Amie leave him alone most of the time and let him borrow her textbooks. She agreed.

All went well for the first two semesters. Each gave the other plenty of space. Amie didn't wake Matt up when she got up early and Matt didn't keep Amie up late. Their mutual tolerance began to evolve into a more loose friendship, and Amie became the first person ever to learn about Matt's life. Life was looking up.

Then the Apostate happened. Matt had been home for a weekend when it happened. Amie had been at the apartment. The details were foggy, but only a few things really mattered. Matt's mother was killed. He survived, but soon after was attacked at home. People, wearing green uniforms with black stitching on the back, broke in and stole nearly everything. To his amazement, they found revolver ammunition and demanded to know where the gun was. Matt never knew his father owned a gun and ended up receiving a severe beating. He feigned death and narrowly avoided execution. When they left, he scoured the home and eventually located the gun, which had been left unloaded. He found the side pouch and the mask elsewhere. As of now, he is heading for his apartment to find Amie, who he has not seen or heard from since the event.
Other: Relatively muscular.
You have the health and stamina of a human in whatever athletic condition you are in. There are no traps or hazards on the map, so other than starvation or dehydration (which won't kill you if you use the supply stores), the only way to die is to be killed. Or commit suicide, but I'm hoping none of you will do that. The nano virus is lethal but will not be used to kill a player unless that player wants to die.

The method of killing is entirely up to the players. I'm not sure what restrictions will be placed on kills (no silent backstabbings, for example), but the death is final and cannot be taken back. Granted, it'll be a problem for players who get heavily involved, but then again that's how a survival game should work. Players can RP two people if they want to increase their chances, but ultimately should be aware that they may die and be prepared to accept that possibility. Hopefully this will help keep the thread from dying of age, as RPs tend to go until people lose interest, and any player who loses interest (or becomes too busy elsewhere to invest in the RP) can leave it without harming the story.

As for who survives encounters, I encourage players to PM as necessary to decide on death. Remember that each person is after only one other person, so no showdowns will occur until the very end. As the GM, I can choose to warn or restrict players at will, so if I want to get a fight started or drag one out, I can do so through text and threat of death. From example, I could tell Player 1 that they now have to kill their target in one day or they will die, then tell Player 2 that the player "hunting" them is nearby. Standoff between players can and will occur, but I can heavily influence the outcome. I'll PM players who are nearing an encounter to ask who they want to survive and will work from there.
