Bio

Hi. I'm Matt. You could say I'm a Case of Identity...

1. The Important Stuff: Faith and salvation

I am a Christian. I believe the KJV Bible and that God is real, Jesus died for me, Jesus rose again and offered salvation to the world. Heaven is real, Hell is hot and the only escape is Christ. I accepted salvation the only way you can: by admitting I was a sinner (and I still am), believing that Jesus died for me and rose again, and calling on Him to save me. Anyone can do it anytime and be granted eternal life.

"Matt, why are you saying all of this?" you ask.

Because last time I was here, I did a crap job of establishing that and just tried to 'fit in.' I'm going to add a little more of this to my characters and to my signature, because it's the right thing to do and because there's freedom on these kinds of sites. Not to an extent that interrupts/derails the story, though. Your game, your rules.

2. The Actual Bio:

Hi guys. I'm Matthias Emmanuel Angel, I'm 24, and this is where I spend time when I'm not doing other things (church, homework, studying, video games).

///
What I like:
-Landscape Management (my major)
-Guitar (over a decade of experience and not much to show for it)
-PC Games (gave up on Xbox, no regrets)
-RPGs (I play them too often though)
-Water instead of soda (oooo look at how healthy I am)
-Google SketchUp (awesome 3D models, free download)
-The number 23 (it's the best number)
///
What I don't like:
-Profanity (especially when it's just filler in comedy)
-Lewd content and porn (and anyone bragging about it)
-Gory movies (how are they going to get butchered this time?)
-Jerks (you aren't a jerk, are you?)
-Insects (kill them all)
-Dying in video games (and forgetting to save)
///

I realize, of course, that this site doesn't have limits on profanity of lewd content. No worries. I'll work around it, and won't join up with RPs rated 18+. If you feel like it will be a problem, let me know BEFORE the RP starts.

3. Other Internet Presence:

You can find me in a couple other places.

Armor Games: MattEmAngel
Steam: club_blizzy
...and Comments here, of course.

See you in another world.
-Matt

Appearance:

Class(desc. if needed): Swordsman/Knight

Personality: Matt is confident and at times cocky. He is never rude, always shows respect to elders, and wipes his boots at the door before going inside. He wants desperately to be as strong, if not stronger, than his uncle, even if it means risking life and limb, though he does know when to draw the line. If you need a friend, ally or "tank," Matt is up for it.

Bio: Nothing of note. His mother and father are both farmers of reasonable standing, and both are still alive. His uncle was a well-known knight in the army with a long record of victories. He trained Matt as a swordsman to prepare him in case he were drafted. His parents didn't really approve of Matt going to war, but they were honest folk and weren't going to help him get out of it if he were picked. Sure enough, he was. Now retired, his uncle passed on his sword: the Warbear. A blade with a mind of its own, Matt has yet to tame it fully. As of now, he can only access a fraction of its power, but since receiving it six months ago he has been training hard to wield it like a man.

Weapons/Catalysts: Warbear. A giant one-edged sword with a diamond blade and rubber-grip handle, containing a powerful 'swordspirit.' It can give him advice and increase the power of the weapon, but it's rather bitter about being retired and passed on to someone else, having served with Matt's uncle for so long. The sword can make itself heavier or lighter than it actually is. It is also able to move on its own, duplicate itself, glow like the sun, and even take a humanoid form to fight alongside its wielder, though Matt has never seen any of it happen himself. The swordspirit can speak, and it has an extensive knowledge of the land and history of the world, though it rarely shares its knowledge.

-Note- The only thing Warbear actually does is speak and make itself weigh more or less. All other abilities are only legends. The swordspirit's text will be brown and his voice will sound a bit like Liam Neeson.

Anything Noteworthy: Matt can throw a knife with relative accuracy, sense danger before he sees it (a "sixth sense" of sorts), and knows how to treat injuries in battle. He can also do a few card tricks, and he has a deck in his pocket to mess with if he gets bored. Everything he owns and needs is kept in a large, brown leather satchel he carries on his back.
@iHxzardx Two things,
1. I still want the sword to speak loud enough for people to hear, or at least people I'm directly interacting with. It throws an interesting dynamic in, because the Warbear counters Matt's cockiness and courage by being pessimistic and discouraging (at times), and it would be fun to have it interrupt or discredit him when talking to someone.
2, the "Magic Satchel" is not actually magic. It's basically saying it's a satchel that can hold all of my inventory/stuff without getting bigger, and just about anything can fit in it. Google it for a better description.

Basically, it's just a brown leather satchel that he carries all his stuff in. The "magic" is that it holds more than an actual satchel would, like in a video game.
@MatthiasAngel@Framing A Moose Will either of you be able to keep an eye on this OOC Thread as much as possible this Tuesday and Wednesday?

Yes.
Well, okay.

Well, okay, as long as they're distinct. I mean, the army would have to list people by class, I assume.

Okay good.

Now about your sword. Im going to put some restrictions on it.
1. It can only speak in your head, unless you and the blade trust and are willing to risk yourselves for a character, then that said character can also hear the blade
2. It cannot move for itself or take human form. The weight shift is acceptable.
3. If it duplicates, the blades must be smaller than the original.
4. Sword must glow 100% of the time if it does at all

1. I'd like for the blade to speak audibly. It'd make conversing more interesting, and they could get into arguments, to the amusement of anyone nearby.
2. It can move for itself and take human form "according to legend," or "in Uncle's stories," then. I wasn't planning on let it do either of those IC anyway.
3. The duplication would be a duplicate of the exact same sword, like a twin, but I can leave it out entirely because I don't want two talking swords. It can be another "according to legend."
4. 100% of the time, then. But, you know, faintly. Not enough to be a torch or a flashlight. The glow is a brown-tan color (like a brown/grizzly bear).

I'd like to add a Magic Satchel to his...uh...clothing? He carries a brown leather Magic Satchel with (his Inventory) in it.
Hm. I have questions here. This is all a bit vague. I suggest, to keep things simple, you establish some classes, then let people to pick from them. It'll be easier to keep track of, because you can just make a roster. I assume we're all humans? I would prefer humans only.

Also, what the heck is a Catalyst?

@Always I would assume the characters are trying to remember their past. But you're right, you can skip a bio for a Casual RP. I was thinking in terms of high Casual RP.
Is there an actual plot here? You should have an actual plot or goal here.

Yeah, you need to work on your CS. Ending it with "etc." is never a good idea. You can go with a bare bones CS, but it needs some guidelines and limitations. "Powers" is not good enough. I played in an RP once that was vague on powers, so I gave myself the ability to turn anything from my imagination into reality, and it killed the fun. I breezed through it so fast that the GM couldn't think of content to add because he wasn't prepared. For this one, I would just give myself the ability to turn invisible walk through walls and escape in one post. There aren't any rules stopping me from doing that right now. You also don't have a bio slot. A bio is vital to an RP. What happened to (character) BEFORE all this? Was (character) born with the powers? How did his/her family/friends react to it? How did it affect his/her life? It gives the player a "springboard" and a reason for their behavior (to make their family proud, to rescue someone, to prove they're not a monster, to take over the world as revenge, etc).

Here's an example of a CS Sheet with guidelines/limitations:

You also need some actual rules for your RP. Here's an example of a good OP/Rule list:

Methinks you need to put some more thought into this. You have a location and that's about it. Why are we there? How did we end up with powers in the first place? Are powers common, or are we anomalies, or were we given them? What are we trying to achieve? I have no doubt that the world looks great in your head, but we can't see it. All we have is what's written, and all you've written is "There's a secret facility that's up to no good." @Always is a young girl with powers and a detailed personality. She's in a government lab that makes bio-weapons. How'd that happen?

Being a GM is lots of fun, but it takes a lot of work. You have to build a world and maintain it. You have to plug as many holes as possible before it starts, so you don't get caught off-guard and aren't forced to make up something to fix it. You can't just drop the players into an open field. You need to set up some walls, because even open-world games have walls. I don't want to start the RP and have to imagine what the facility looks like and what they're doing. That's your job.

I'm not trying to discourage you, by all means, and I certainly don't want you to give up. If you want to GM a game, do it! Just know that you have to really waterproof your game for it to work. It's far too easy to just charge into an RP you like, try and wing it, and have it fail. I suggest you look through some successful Casual RP OOC's to see what the CS looks like and how the GM operates. It just might help.

And this looks pretty interesting, tbh. I'll subscribe, and consider joining later if you want to tighten the screws up on this RP. If not, okay, go for it, but you may not get very far.
Okay, what the heck, guys. It's been three days and we have like 15 people. Would someone please post?
a good friend of mine has been on the verge of suicide on numerous occasions because someone berates her, and millions of other people have gone beyond that because someone out there thought they were high and mighty until they took it to far

-_-'

Sometimes I wonder if there isn't a more serious problem when it comes to internet harassment. The world has nasty people in it, and the Internet has given them a means to be nasty to whoever they want, whenever they want, as much as they want, anonymously. Sometimes they do it just to be nasty, but usually it's to get feedback. That is something no amount of administrator police work or perma-banning will fix. The only real way to deal with them is to ignore them or get away from them, and I get really annoyed concerned when someone takes it to heart, to the point that they actually want to commit suicide, because that's a bullcrap reason to kill yourself letting someone anonymous take control of your life.

Look, good-friend-who-almost-committed-suicide-on-numerous-occasions: You do not HAVE to be here on the Internet. Get off the website that you're getting the trash talk from. If you have to, get off the Internet. I'm not dissing you for being sensitive; some people just easily take things to heart. I'm dissing you for being stupid enough to want to kill yourself over an anon not being able to just log off. Some people get bullied IRL. They get picked on and harmed physically and a lot of the time it's at school where they can't escape it. This is the freakin' Internet. All you have to do to get away from the bullying is turn off your phone/laptop/PC/WHATEVER.

Here, let me explain it just a little more clearly.

All you have to do to not get bullied on the Internet:

Get. Off. The. Internet.

I found this glass shard with an old logo/stamp/mark on it in a wide alley by my house, which was used as a dump zone for dirt from Washington DC. Here's the challenge: use the logo/stamp/mark and number to identify what the glass shard was, who made it, and roughly what year he was made (like, a decade).

Here's a close-up of the logo/mark:
