Co-Harmonious State of Ipetam

Government:
Feudal Monarchy with elements of a parliamentary system.

Species:
Oni:

Culture:
The culture of the Oni is highly stratified, based on a rigid caste system based on factors of one's skin color, sex, and family clan affiliation.

Oni society is highly matriarchal, and built upon very strict, rigid gender roles. The center of Oni society is their Empress, who is supported by the clans, which are her personal property. Oni society mirrors this on a small scale, in which the head of an Oni household is the matriarch, who has full authority over her husband and children.

Men are expected to serve as obedient husbands, and to know their place as labors who provide for their wives as the clans provide for their queen. Marriages in Oni society act more as purchases than ceremonies of love, and in fact, a marriage is in essence and legally little different from the purchase of a slave, where a woman formally buys a man from his mother. While men act as laborers, women typically occupy positions of both 'intellectual labor', acting as scholars, merchants, priestesses, etc depending on their social caste, as well as acting as voting members of their clan diet, which passes clan ordiences, and communicate with their overlord, who reports to the senate, who give input to the queen.

Oni caste depends upon skin color, with society being structured in a 6 tier hierarchy.

Black Skin Oni: Black Oni make up about 1% of the population, serving as the political organ of the empire. They work as political workers, with the men serving as bureaucrats who deal with people directly, such as tax collectors and other such civil servants. Men from this caste may also be castrated and serve the Empress directly as her personal eunuchs. Women server as either direct governers, or political figures such as advisors or heads of development projects. The highest of the Black Oni are the Imperial Family.

Blue Oni: Blue Oni act as the religious caste, with the men serving as the laborers of the monastic temples where the Priesthood make their homes, while the women work carrying oit their elaborate rituals to their two gods, and acting as philosophers, theologians, as well as astrologers, court diviners, and jobs such as chemists, astronomers, physicists, and any kind of work with higher mathematics.

Red Oni: The Red Oni act as the designated military caste, being sort of a middle ground, acting as very low level administrators such as mayors or lords of small defensive fiefs. Men actually work as foot soldiers and other such direct combat work, while the women work in strategy and logistical work.

Yellow Oni: Yellow Oni serve as craftsmen and other such professions. Men work in factories, and in manual labor such as as masons and in metallurgy work. Women serve in work such as architecture, or running the factories where goods are produced.

Green Oni: Farmers and other such agricultural workers, the men serve essentially purely as farmers, while the women have a position as merchants and business managerss

White Oni: Essentially the outcasts of society, these people are used for undignified labor such as waste and trash disposal, the slaughter of animals, as cleaners and for low level menial labor considered undesirable or improper for others castes to carry out. They also work in jobs related to death, such as grave diggers, morticians, as well as in medical work, as doctors. As well, the caste is often utilized for prostitution and other forms of sex work for the benefit of others castes, and as a result typically find work as actors and musicians.

The Republic of Guatemala and El Salvador

History: Guatemala had long been little more than a puppet or resource for other nations to use as they saw fit. Following the Spanish conquest, the incorporation of Central America into the Mexican Empire, there was a brief recourse when the nations of Central America united as a single federation, only to collapse thereafter, and for Guatemala to fall into the sphere of the United States.

The US-based United Fruit Company (UFC) was one of many foreign companies that acquired large tracts of both state land and indigenous land. Manuel Estrada Cabrera, who was president of Guatemala from 1898 to 1920, permitted limited unionization in rural Guatemala, but also made further concessions to the UFC. In 1922, the Communist Party of Guatemala was created, and became a significant influence among urban laborers; however, it had little reach among the rural and Indian populations. In 1929, the Great Depression led to the collapse of the economy and a rise in unemployment, leading to unrest among workers and laborers. Fearing the possibility of a revolution, the landed elite lent their support to Jorge Ubico y Castañeda, who had built a reputation for ruthlessness and efficiency as a provincial governor. Ubico won the election that followed in 1931, in which he was the only candidate.

Ubico had made statements supporting the labor movement when campaigning for the presidency, but after his election his policy quickly became authoritarian. He abolished the system of debt peonage and replaced it with a vagrancy law, which required all men of working age who did not own land to perform a minimum of 100 days of hard labor. In addition, the state made use of unpaid Indian labor to work on public infrastructures like roads and railroads. Ubico also froze wages at very low levels and passed a law allowing land-owners complete immunity from prosecution for any action they took to defend their property, in practice legalizing murder. He greatly strengthened the police force, turning it into one of the most efficient and ruthless in Latin America. The police were given greater authority to shoot and imprison people suspected of breaking the labor laws. Ubico was highly contemptuous of the country's indigenous people, once stating that they resembled donkeys. The result of these laws was to create tremendous resentment against him among agricultural laborers.

The October Revolution
As Ubico's policies lead to a downturn in the living conditions in Guatemala, widespread protests began against his government. Ubico responded by indefinitely suspending the constitution, and carrying out quick and brutal repression of any resistance to his rule. However, the protests had grown to the point where the government could not stamp them out, and rural areas also began organizing against the dictatorship. The government began using the police to intimidate the indigenous population to keep the junta in power through the forthcoming election. This resulted in growing support for an armed revolution among some sections of the populace. By now, the army was disillusioned with the junta, and progressives within it had begun to plot a coup. On 1 October 1944, Alejandro Cordova, the editor of El Imparcial, the main opposition newspaper, was assassinated. This led to the military coup plotters reaching out to the leaders of the protests, in an attempt to turn the coup into a popular uprising. On the 19th, Ubico announced elections, but the pro-democracy forces denounced them as a fraud, citing his attempts to rig them. That same day, a small group of army officers launched a coup, led by Francisco Javier Arana and Jacobo Árbenz Guzmán. They were joined the next day by other factions of the army and the civilian population. Initially, the battle went against the revolutionaries, but after an appeal for support their ranks were swelled by unionists and students, and they eventually subdued the police and army factions loyal to Ubico. On October 20, Ubico surrendered unconditionally and was sent into exile in the United States.

The military junta was replaced by another three-person junta consisting of Árbenz, Arana, and an upper-class youth named Jorge Toriello, who had played a significant role in the protests. The junta promised free and open elections to the presidency and the congress, as well as for a constituent assembly.

The subsequent elections took place in December 1944, and were broadly considered free and fair, although only literate men were given the vote. Unlike in similar historical situations, none of the junta members stood for election. The winner was one Juan José Arévalo Bermejo, the candidate of the Renovación Nacional, also known as the teachers' party. In an unexpected surge of support, his candidacy was endorsed by many of the leading organizations among the protesters, including the student federation.

Arévalo took office on March 15, 1945, inheriting a country with numerous social and economic issues. Despite Ubico's policy of using unpaid labor to build public roads, internal transport was severely inadequate. 70% of the population was illiterate, and malnutrition and poor health were widespread. The wealthiest 2% of landowners owned nearly three quarters of agricultural land, and as a result less than 1% was cultivated. The indigenous peasants either had no land, or had far too little to sustain themselves. Three quarters of the labor force were in agriculture, and industry was essentially nonexistent.

Arévalo identified his ideology as "spiritual socialism". He held the belief that the only way to alleviate the backwardness of most Guatemalans was through a paternalistic government. He was strongly opposed to classical Marxism, and believed in a capitalist society that was regulated to ensure that its benefits went to the entire population. In searching for a basis to repair the broken society that Ubico had created, Arévalo looked north to the system of neighboring Mexico, which he quickly went about emulating, hoping to follow their path to economic growth. Arévalo's ideology was reflected in the new constitution that the Guatemalan assembly ratified soon after his inauguration, which was one of the most progressive in Latin America. It mandated suffrage for all but illiterate women, and provisions for a multiparty system. Communist parties were, however, forbidden. Arévalo worked hard to reorient Guatemala towards Mexico as its new most valuable partner in growth, establishing economic and political ties between the two nations.

The Arévalo government also floated the idea of a Central American Federation, as being the only way that a democratic government could survive in the region. He approached several leaders of democratic Central American countries, but was rejected by all except Castañeda Castro, the president of El Salvador. The two leaders began talks to build a union and set up several commissions to look into the issue. In late 1945 they announced the formation of the union, which would go into effect the following year.

In 1950, elections would be held, this time between two of the former Triumvirate Leaders, Jacobo Árbenz and Francisco Arana. Arana was largely supported by the wealthy, landed elite, while Árbenz was favored by leftist movements. Fearing loss, and a potential coup should the more radical Árbenz come into power, In July of 1949, Arana delivered an ultimatum to Arévalo, demanding the expulsion of all of Árbenz's supporters from the cabinet and the military; he threatened a coup if his demands were not met. Arévalo informed Árbenz and other progressive leaders of the ultimatum, who all agreed that Arana should be exiled. Two days later, Arévalo and Arana had another meeting; on the way back, Arana's convoy was intercepted by a small force led by Árbenz. A shootout ensued, killing three men, including Arana. Arana's supporters in the military rose up in revolt, but they were leaderless, and by the next day the rebels asked for negotiations. Following this, Arana's supporters were exiled. In a speech on July 21, Arévalo made a speech describing Arana's death. He suggested that Arana had flirted with conspiring against the president with people hostile to Arévalo, but had eventually refused to overthrow the government, and been assassinated for his refusal. He did not name the assassins but suggested that they were members of the conservative opposition.

The following year, Jacobo Árbenz won the election by a massive landslide victory, and continued the land reforms of his precessor, the biggest component of Árbenz's project of modernization was his land reform bill. Árbenz drafted the bill himself with the help of advisers that included some leaders of the communist party as well as non-communist economists. He also sought advice from numerous economists from across Latin America. The bill was passed by the National Assembly on 17 June 1952, and the program went into effect immediately. The focus of the program was on transferring uncultivated land from large landowners to their poverty-stricken laborers, who would then be able to begin a viable use of the land of their own. Árbenz was also motivated to pass the bill because he needed to generate capital for his public infrastructure projects within the country. By June 1954, 1.4 million acres of land had been expropriated and distributed. Approximately 500,000 individuals, or one-sixth of the population, had received land by this point. The decree also included the provision of financial credit to the people who received the land. The National Guatemalan Bank (Banco Nacional Guatemalteco, or BNG) was created on 7 July 1953, and by June 1954 it had disbursed more than $9 million in small loans. 53,829 applicants received an average of 225 US dollars, which was twice as much as the Guatemalan per capita income. The BNG developed a reputation for being a highly efficient government bureaucracy.

The United Fruit Company
he United Fruit Company had been formed in 1899 by the merger of two large American corporations. The new company had major holdings of land and railroads across Central America, which it used to support its business of exporting bananas. In 1900 it was already the world's largest exporter of bananas. By 1930 it had an operating capital of US$215 million and had been the largest landowner and employer in Guatemala for several years. Under Manuel Estrada Cabrera and other Guatemalan presidents, the company obtained a series of concessions in the country that allowed it to massively expand its business. These concessions frequently came at the cost of tax revenue for the Guatemalan government. The company supported Jorge Ubico in the leadership struggle that occurred from 1930 to 1932, and upon assuming power, Ubico expressed willingness to create a new contract with it. This new contract was immensely favorable to the company. It included a 99-year lease to massive tracts of land, exemptions from virtually all taxes, and a guarantee that no other company would receive any competing contract. Under Ubico, the company paid virtually no taxes, which hurt the Guatemalan government's ability to deal with the effects of the Great Depression. Ubico asked the company to pay its workers only 50 cents a day, to prevent other workers from demanding higher wages. The company also virtually owned Puerto Barrios, Guatemala's only port to the Atlantic Ocean, allowing the company to make profits from the flow of goods through the port. By 1950, the company's annual profits were US$65 million, twice the revenue of the Guatemalan government.

In 1952 when Jacobo Árbenz passed Decree 900, the agrarian reform law, the uncultivated land held by the company, of the 550,000 acres (220,000 ha) that the company owned, 15% were being cultivated; the rest of the land, which was idle, came under the scope of the agrarian reform law. The United Fruit Company responded with intensive lobbying of members of the United States government, which lead to the planning of a coup to be executed in 1954 in response to the presence of Communists in the Guatemalan government under the Árbenz, using one of Francisco Arana's long time supporters who was sent into exile, Carlos Castillo Armas. By luck, however, Árbenz had managed to discover the plot of Armas' coup, and action was taken against him, wherein upon his arrival, he and his supporters were ambushed, and captured. Armas was put on a public trail, where he was convicted of treason under collusion with the United States government, and executed, while public and government opinion of the United Fruit Company's presence in Guatemala has only worsened, with Árbenz now up for reelection in 1955, and public opinion gradually turning more and more radical, as reforms increase the economic growth of this once feudal Central American nation, now aware of its position on a larger scale.

Information:

Guatemala City: The Capital of Guatemala
Revolutionary Action Party: The Ruling Party of Guatemala, lead by President Jacobo Árbenz
Communist Party of Guatemala: A radical left-wing pary, only recently legalized by the Árbenz regime, but popular among the urban working class. While technically an opposition party, it has strong ties to the current regime, as per the friendship of it's leader, José Manuel Fortuny, with the current president Jacobo Árbenz.
Popular Liberation Front: A center-right party, the major opposition party, and slightly conservative force. Its candidate, Víctor Manuel Giordani, is the main opposition to Árbenz in the upcoming 1955 election.

El Salvador: Instead of a federation of two Central American peopls, as many Salvadorians had imagined, the RGS turned into a state completely dominated by Guatemalans. Salvadorian political life was also diminished, as Arévalo demanded all political parties in El Salvador to be dismantled and absorbed into Guatemalan parties. The economically weaker El Salvador has been since dominated by Guatemala, which saw significant economic growth following the Mexican inspired reforms of the Arévalo government.
I see your app, @Dusty. But I've also been waiting on one @Mendicant Bias. Although they don't seem to have done anything yet so you may get to take their place. I'm just going to give them a day or something since they were first call, although they haven't been around in a week according to posting history.

Nah they can have France, I'll switch to a smaller nation since I have less time than I expected now
Sure thing ^^ looking forward to what you come up with
Loosely, huh? So, do we make worlds for this or are the worlds used here based on existing worlds in involved franchises?

A little of both. I have set 'destination worlds' in mind that I'm keeping hidden, but I may also take from character timelines I like.

The main theme here is alternate timelines, that is alt history. But worlds from existing franchises rooted in or explained via alternate timelines are acceptable too (something ala Fallout or Halo, or etc). Given that it's basically literally the split of time into alternate universes, the sky's the limit essentially from where you can have your characters from.
Great, here's the OOC thread: roleplayerguild.com/topics/183614-mag…

"A world that looses its power will fade away into nothingness..." she called out, cloaked in light as she stood in flowing garments. You did not recognize her, at least not by name, but her presence was ever so familiar, ever so comforting.

"The world must first die for it to be born again, that is the only way to salvation. The world will fall into darkness, and all will fall with it, that is their fate."

With a mourful look she directs it toward you, "But...I do not wish that you will follow suit. Your name...could you tell me your name?" She asks, as if her voice is extending out to you, taking in the words as she takes grasp and holds it to herself. "Hold onto that, keep it safe to you, that you will not forget it, so that your will to live will be sustained. Hold it so that you will not be lost to the darkness when it comes to take you."

And with that, the light begins to overtake her, as she fades out into the washing light. "I won't shed another tear, not even at this world's end. But I'd like to see you in the next world. And know, that this will is not rooted in darkness" As the room is entirely consumed by the light she speaks a few parting words "Now go, it's time."

And in the blink of an eye, it was too late to be stopped. From the corner of your eye, all that could be done was to watch in abject horror as the sky gave way to darkness, as caliginous tendrils raced across the heavens, swallowing up all light, as it seemed as that unnatural shadow touched anything, the structure gave way on buildings, animals and people seemed to curl up and die on the spot. Total destruction was imminent, as all you knew and held dear was swallowed up in a storm of darkness. There were no heroes coming to save you, not to save the world. This was the end, when everything was doomed to sink away into and endless decay under a darkened world.

Or so you thought. You suddenly come back to consciousness, met with a single figure, himself cloaked in darkness. As he approaches, words buzz about in your head

"I have taken a great interest in you, you may prove to be useful in these coming tribulations. I will grant you a token of my appreciation to help you better survive in this new world. See to it that you do not disappoint me."

With that the figure procures a strange little creature, a wriggling worm, curled at first into a curved shape, before unfolding as the dark figure drops it casually, the creature uncurling as its mandibles extend and its clawed limbs come out, landing in your eye, the creature quickly sets to burrowing inside, and you can only last a few short seconds before you black out once again.

But once you awake, maybe it will all make sense.

Magokoro is a story based and inspired by Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, as well as the Kingdom Hearts games. It's sort of a semi crossover between them, taking place in a setting where you are part of a collapsed multiverse of alternative timelines that have been condensed into a singular "vortex" world of layers, in an event known as Conception. You have been granted the gift of a "Magatama", a strange parasitic worm that, in exchange for burrowing into a host, provides supernatural powers, such as the use of magic, increased physical and mental skills, and most importantly, the ability to summon a divine weapon unique to that chosen being, which will allow them to vanquish demons and ghouls, a feat not otherwise possible by humans alone. However, the transition comes at a cost, as the chosen, by becoming infected with a Magatama, have become half-demon beings, the Demi-Fiends, who are subject to intense internal conflict to control their new demonic nature. They must now travel the Kalpa Layers of the new vortex world, to set about fixing the multiverse and creating a new, better, singular timeline. However, the executors of Conception, forces dedicated to using darkness to dominate a new universe created in their image, seek to hinder the chosen Demi-Fiends in their quest.

With that, the goal is simple, the small group of demi-fiends must navigate the 8 Mahakalpas to reach the center of the Vortex of Time, where the Heart of the World is located. From there, they may undo the damage done and start a new timeline.

Background
The timeline, prior to conception, existed as a stream of timelines branching off of a singular point, diverging in their own ways to create vastly different worlds. Conception seeks to unite the multiverse and start a new, condensing all of time down into a single "Vortex", with the layers of multiversal timelines becoming distinct worlds in layers leading deep into the new time vortex, called Kalpa. The ones who can navigate through the Kalpa and reach the core of time will be able to rewrite time, and create a new world at their whims. But, there is a catch, a demon, including a Demi-Fiend, cannot rewrite time, they must find a pure-hearted human, to be their "Reason", whose ideals will shape the new world. Thus, the Demi-Fiends can only act as "sponsors" to their Reason, and guide and protect them through the core of time.

The Heart of Time and the Great Will

In the most ancient of times, before the split of the universe, time was a single progression emanating out of the Heart of Worlds. A desire for power, to control the Heart, lead to manipulations of a being only known as the Master. His actions sew distrust between his 6 students, who fought to take control of the Heart themselves suspecting the others of seeking to misuse it. Their conflict grew into a destructive internal war that began to corrupt the worlds with darkness, and soon, the Greatest of the Master's students, Lucifer, turned against his master and friends, crafting a great weapon, that split the timeline into many branches, casting the others into various timelines, and creating dummy splits to prevent them from ever coming back into contact with each other. But the use of this weapon, known as the χ-blade, ended up damaging his self and ripping his heart, body, and soul into separate entities that were cast out into the timelines. And with that, the multiverse was created, though none would ever know, as the point of separation erased all memories of what had come before.

However, the Master was not satisfied to be defeated so easily, and before he was vanquished by the χ-blade, he fixed his Heart to the Heart of the Worlds, allowing him to subtly manipulate the timelines, laying the foundation for what would become known as The Great Will.

Conception
But as the universes progressed, they began to falter, and weaken, becoming dying threads. It was believed something must be done. Thus the Heart had implemented a failsafe in the event of a temporal fracture such as this, creating the event called the Conception. When activated, it would begin the process of folding the timelines back onto each other, creating a shell of time surrounding the Heart of Time, a structure known as the Time Vortex. The Time Vortex stops short of just collapsing in on itself, as it requires a set of ideals to be built off of in order to set the laws of this new timeline in order. Those ideals will be found in the new layers of Kalpa, 108 layers built off of timelines of the old split, with 13 Mahakalpa, eras of great importance, wherein will be found the 13 Inmajin, Beings of Great Darkness, and the 5 purehearted mortals known as Reasons, each with competing Ideologies who must be guided safely to the Heart of Worlds, where they will be used to determine the course of this new world. Demonic beings, including Demi-Fiends, cannot guide the new world directly, they may only influence it by chosing a Reason to sponsor and help guide.

Beings of the Time Vortex

Heartless - Heartless are the disembodied emotions and energy of a former mortal being, gone feral and attacking rampantly. The process of Conception invovled the destruction of all mortal beings by tearing their Spiritual Hearts out, creating disembodied creatures, and effectively killing most of them.

Nobodies - Strong willed mortals may preserve their bodies and souls after the world is consumed with darkness, the result are emotionless beings of varying degrees of humanity. These are the bodies and souls of those who had their "heart" removed, but managed to hold onto their sense of self. Depending on the strength of their will and identity, they may maintain their human shape and memories, but if their will was not strong enough, they will be reduced into emotionless, deformed beings.

Demi-Fiend - A Demi-Fiend is the result of a Nobody being infested with the demonic parasite called the Magatama. Demi-Fiends regain their emotions to some degree, as they are provided by the Magatama, but their memories are distorted and corrupted, haunting and maddening distortions of their old lives, as their emotions become dark and corrupted, a Demi-Fiend must battle the growing demonic energy inside them, lest they be consumed by darkness entirely.

Demon - Demons are strange creatures of darkness that come about as a result of the conception, possibly a side effect of multiversal compression. They are much more intelligent than Heartless, and have their own distinct cultures and societies. They can be reasoned with and even convinced to join your causes with some negotiation.

More about Demi-Fiends
Demi-Fiends are half-demons, that is, their essence is directly linked to the Magatama, a kind of parasitic demon that gives its host a demonic heart in exchange for occupying their body. Since the host of a Magatama is inherently a nobody (as to infect a human with a heart of their own with the emotional turmoil inflicted by a magatama would surely drive them insane), the Magatama has an uncanny ability to map the memories of a host by an infestation of their brain, mapping their memories and emotions out, but creating dark, demented copies of them that are in some way corrupt. The exchange for the awesome power that the Magatama brings, is the internal suffering brought upon by the corrupting influence of its demonic essence, augmented by the fact that the artificial "heart" provided by the magatama is not the real heart of the being, leaving them still a nobody, and plagued by a sense of not quite being who they really are, and dissociative feelings. All of this leads to the very real danger of the host being overtaken by the Magatama and being totally consumed by darkness entirely, in which their body will be destroyed. Thus, one who uses the Magatama must balance their emotions, so that they are not consumed by them.

Among the most notable benefits of using the Magatama is the ability to use magic, as well as increased strength and other physical performance. But of particular note, is that the Magatama allows those who were not able to already do so, access the mysterious weapons known as "Keyblades". While called so, they need not take on the appearance of a key, per se, but they are vital, as only they are able to vanquish the various supernatural beings that exist in the Time Vortex, such as the Heartless, Nobodies, and Demons.

Kagatsuchi
Throughout the Vortex is a strange structure called Kagatsuchi, a celestial body acting as a mix of the sun and moon as one, with phases that dictate the power and intensity of the supernatural beings.

The Indochinese Union (French Indochina)

History:
Following the formal expulsion of the Japanese from Vietnam and their surrender, as well as its transfer to France in 1944, tensions immediately began to surface in the region as fears began to grow of the restoration of a French presence in Southeast Asia. France, though technically only occupying Vietnam again under a tentative agreement, immediately began to restore a heavy military presence in the region.

Following Japanese invasion of Indochina, the area had given rise to significant communist militias under the leadership of Ho Chi Minh, founder of the Indochinese Communist Party. Ho had intentions of creating an independent Vietnam following the expulsion of the Japanese, however his efforts were being hampered by the restoration of French administration over the region.

In 1945, the French formally abolished the Monarchy in place ruling their Protectorate, paving the way for more direct rule over Vietnam, a stepping stone to retaking lost territory. This prompted an immediate revolt, in which Ho Chi Minh to declare his own Democratic Republic of Vietnam, in opposition to French rule. But before September's end, a force of British, French, along with captured Japanese troops, restored French control. Ho Chi Minh was called in for negotiations for the end of the war, only to be arrested and publicly executed by French forces. The death of Ho created a power vacuum in the Communist, anti-French forces, as the formerly unified militia began to fragment as commanders vied for power and control, creating disorganized factions that were easily taken care of by the heavy French military presence. With the threat of a communist uprising nullified, the monarchy abolished, and no further threats present, the French began a further campaign to completely restore French rule over their former colony.

Following restoring complete control over Vietnam, the threat of communist insurgency was used as justification to transition the territories over to direct French rule, separating Vietnam into three distinct regions: Tonkin in the the north and Annam in the center, both placed under direct French rule, and a region of Champa, being made as an "autonomous state" for the Muslim Cham minority of southern Vietnam, relocating non-Muslim ethnic groups from Champa northward, scattering them across Annam and Tonkin in a series of deportations.

In May of 1947, the French began to make claims of remnants of the Communist militias being given shelter in the Kingdom of Cambodia, prompting the French to begin a military invasion of Cambodia, deposing the then King, and putting a new monarch on the throne, and forcing him to integrate Cambodia into a protectorate of France. The following year, the French made a similar offer to the King of Laos, suggesting that he voluntarily submit to operating as a French protectorate and allow them to root out Communist insurgents in the area, or face outright military invasion if he was suspected of harboring enemies of the French.

By 1950, the French formally abolished the monarchies of Cambodia and Laos, replacing them with "autonomous governors" who reported back to Paris directly. In an effort to take pressure off of their expansionist acquisitions of former colonial territory, the French announced that they would grant Indochina a special status as an "overseas territory" increasing autonomy for Indochina while having it ruled by a territorial government under France.

Entering into the 50s, Indochina has been increasingly unstable as the French make use of its resources, while nationalist sentiments began to increase. The powder keg has finally ignited in 1955, as a nationalist uprising has sprung up in Laos, seeking to restore the Monarchy. All the while, whispers of other nationalist movements, and a restored socialist sentiment, inspired by the current uprising in Laos, have caused the French to take action against insurgency in their colonial territories. At the moment, the unrest is being handled by the local government of Indochina, however, it may soon come that the Mainland French government themselves will need to get involved.
