Well, you have two attack qualities on the shields, which you don't need. As a side note, you've got Tough on all parts except the one that would be most likely to have ranks of it (the shields). Just curious, but is there any reason for that? I don't really know AZ so I can't comment on your part setup or anything but it just seems odd to me.

Also, small tangent, would people like their Relationship NPCs to be on the crew? Additionally, for various reasons such as being unsure of which Eva installment Shinji is meant to be from and the fact that I never got around to watching AZ, would people be okay with running their own relationship NPCs for the purposes of dialogue and the like? I'm not a big fan of writing for guys I don't know super well.
@Jerkchicken
Ah, sorry, I'm not too good at jokes.

@FallenTrinity
No worries, if you don't manage to get it in on time you can always intro during a later encounter.
The sun stood atop the sky when Layla and her faithful canine companion arrived at Four Winds. The pair had, over the course of about seven hours and a long series of minor setbacks that didn't deserve mention, managed to finally make it up Mount Fuji. Layla gave a little prayer of gratitude for the remarkably well-stocked waystations along the trail.

It really was an odd place for a school, though- how did they even expect people to make it up here for a morning orientation? Did they want kids to start walking at 2 AM, or something? Plus it was really cold, and the wind was downright vicious when you got this high up.

"Well, Pochi, it was a long and lonely road, but we finally made it. Plus we found this cool rock that looks like a skull!"

"Urameshiya~"

"Eh, you say something? Well, anyway, here we are at Four- Golly."

The first thing Layla noticed that the academy grounds were some kind of temperate forest region filled with greenery that definitely had no way of surviving at this altitude. Layla might have questioned the environmental impact of this, were she the sort of person that cared about that kind of thing. Lucky of her, she wasn't.

The second thing Layla noticed was that most of the front lawn was varying levels of blasted apart, on fire, or occupied by unconscious students. There were some groggy ones milling about, too, mumbling about breakfast. Really, it'd be more like brunch at this time of day, but who was counting.

"Hey!", she shouted to everyone in general as she dismounted, "You guys, over there! What'd I miss? Whole damn place looks like a bomb went off!"
@Flamelord
No, just a Defend (Saw It Coming) or Useful (Precognition) or something would work fine depending on whatever you want it to do.

@Jerkchicken
Oubu is a little too wildly inconsistent and also has pretty much no weapons at all so I'm gonna pass on that one. Once they reveal Megalara's gimmick I might do one for that, though.
@Flamelord
Well, the finishing move is fairly situational so you don't particularly need to have one, it's just that it's a big part of the genre. One possibility for mechs without a designated finisher would be to just swap it out with a signature phrase or something.
@FallenTrinity So your stats and skills are good, yeah. If you can give a little explanation for each Relationship, that would be good. I'll be honest your mech is way off base but you seem to be getting there pretty well.

@Flamelord Okay your stats, skills, and relationships all function. Your mecha is all over the place, and also Finishing Moves don't really support stuff like what you have here. You could make your Zero System thingy a part and it'd be kosher though.

@Raineh Daze It's been kind of a rough week here too so I can entirely understand.

Speaking of which, now that I have time, I should get around to writing a little guide on how to mecha.

HOW TO MECH LIKE A PRO
So today we're gonna build @Jerkchicken's request, Gravion- specifically, God Gravion. Now, I know what you're thinking: "But Menhir, Gravion is HYPE MADE MANIFEST, there's no way you can build it in a system!"

Well, whoever you are, I'm gonna prove you wrong.

Glossing over the fluff parts for the moment, basically we want to start with the Parts that make up Gravion. Being a five-section combiner, this is pretty easy. We'll assign three hit locations to the primary component, Gran Kaiser, and then two hit locations to each of the component machines: G-Driller, G-Attacker, and G-Shadow. The remaining hit location goes to the left leg, which is also a G-Attacker but for some reason that one never actually did anything of import in the show. So, arranging them roughly from bottom to top, we get:

1-2 G-Attacker I
3 G-Attacker II
4-5: G-Driller
6-8: Gran Kaiser
9-10: G-Shadow

For those who didn't watch Gravion (don't, it's terrible), this is roughly analogous to (in order) right leg/left leg/arms/torso & head/backpack. Next, we assign Qualities. Gravion is basically a pile of pink lasers and knives held together with weak magnets, so let's assign each location's free quality to Attack. Gran Kaiser does a... passable job at dodging, so we'll slap the Defend quality on it. The G-Driller has been shown to tunnel underground and pierce through heavy armor, so we'll give it Useful: (Burrowing) and Useful (Punch Through Hard Objects). The G-Attackers can both fly, so we'll give them each the Useful (Flight) skill. You might think this is redundant, but remember that a part becomes unusable once it's knocked out. The G-Shadow- I don't remember the G-Shadow doing anything except being used as a boomerang, so I think it's fine. Finally, since the Gran Kaiser is actually a smaller robot, we'll give it the ability Useful (Operate When Damaged), and define it as a quality that allows the Gran Kaiser part to continue operating until it's gone, even if Gravion has lost three or more parts. So now, Gravion looks like:

1-2: G-Attacker I: Attack (Graviton Missile), Useful (Flight), 9 Points
3: G-Attacker II: Attack (Graviton Rifle), Useful (Flight), 4 Points
4-5: G-Driller: Attack (Graviton Pressure Punch), Useful (Burrow), Useful (Punch Through Hard Objects), 8 Points
6-8: Gran Kaiser: Attack (Graviton Sword), Defend (Dodge), Useful (Operate When Damaged), 13 Points
9-10: G-Shadow: Attack (Graviton Crescent), 10 Points

So we've got a red flag here in the form of Gran Kaiser- it has over ten points on it, which is a no-go here. Luckily, we can fix that with our next step: Extras.

First thing we'll want to do is check if we're the right size. Gravion's actually a tiny bitch combiner that, from what I recall, doesn't even clear the 30 meter mark, so we can stick with the default Size 2. Next comes trying to emulate Gravion itself. the G-Attacker's Graviton Missile bombards a fairly large area with weak-ish missiles, so we'll hit it with Fast 1 and Area 2. The G-Attacker II can eject the Graviton Rifle from a holster on the side, which doesn't do all that much in the show but since the boob woman is supposed to be a skilled gunman we'll give it the Aim extra. the G-Driller's rocket punch was the first weapon to be halfway-decent, and can also hit two chunks of space monster at once, so we'll drop the Strong 1 and the Splash 1 extras on it.

Next is Gran Kaiser. We need to spend at least 3 points on extras to get it on track, for the reasons stated above. First off, we want two ranks of Advanced, partly because it's space magic but also so we don't have to roll for Operate When Damaged every round. Since it technically has to take multiple actions to function like this (keeping itself alive with it's Useful quality counts as an action) we'll also give it Spray. Finally, Gran Kaiser is shown to eat a decent amount of shit before it goes down, so we'll give it Tough 1. Lastly, the G-Shadow contains lock-on targeting systems and the damaging Graviton Crescent attack that can explode the heavily-armored Zeravire with minimal trouble, so we'll give it Strong 4 and Advanced 2. So now, our mecha looks like this:

1-2: G-Attacker I: Attack (Graviton Missile), Useful (Flight), Area 2, Fast 1, 6 Points
3: G-Attacker II: Attack (Graviton Rifle), Useful (Flight), Aim, 3 Points
4-5: G-Driller: Attack (Graviton Pressure Punch), Useful (Burrow), Useful (Punch Through Hard Objects), Strong 1, Splash 1, 6 Points
6-8: Gran Kaiser: Attack (Graviton Sword), Defend (Dodge), Useful (Operate When Damaged), Advanced 2, Spray, Tough 1, 9 Points
9-10: G-Shadow: Attack (Graviton Crescent), Advanced 2, Strong 4, 4 Points

Finally, we fill out the rest of the sheet and we're done. If you're wondering how do do the copilots, you can simply represent them with Relationships. So, if Eiji was the lead character, it'd look like:

Luna Gusuku 1: Copilot of the G-Driller. Looks like a child and is kind of a total bitch about everything.
Touga Tenkuuji 1: A well-meaning, sheltered idiot and martial arts prodigy who pilots the Gran Kaiser. Arguably the most tolerable member of the team.
Eina 1: Copilot of the G-Driller and token shy glasses character. She's actually a clone of a robot from the moon. No, that part's not really explained at all.
Mizuki Tachibana 1: Pilot of the G-Attacker II. She's a dirty traitor who exists to have boobs. Does almost nothing, but is still important for some reason.
Leele Zeravire 1: Pilot of the G-Shadow. She's Sandman's daughter and the token shy waif character. Easily spooked by fire except when she's not.
Ayaka Shigure 1: Eiji's missing sister. She's not actually missing at all, and was actually that guy in the back wearing the char mask the entire time but just didn't tell anyone.
Klein Sandman 0: Sandman doesn't get a relationship because he's a douchebag.

Since they're copilots, all the relationships (save Ayaka) can be freely triggered when the copilot in question is present. Be careful about overusing them, though: You could very easily drain a relationship and need one of your copilots to sit out the next mission if you're unlucky.

This concludes the first and only(?) episode of HOW TO MECH LIKE A PRO.
Well we've got about five people who are at varying stages of "not done" but let's go ahead and set the deadline for starting at October 20th, two weeks after the thread was posted.
Does that sound okay with everyone?
@Baklava Even if she ran back down the mountain, Mount Fuji is really big. Like, have you ever climbed a mountain? Imagine that mountain's fat cousin, and then imagine that fat cousin's dad. That's basically Mount Fuji. It's just not something that can just be traversed that easily. But since GM says it's okay then I guess Layla can totally show up now so should I just get on that?

@Scio But you said people didn't have to answer PMs? You said there was a "choice to discuss" in that PM conversation we had after you invited Zerohex and I to a chat so I assumed that meant it was okay to just not discuss? Why do you seem so mad, anyway?

I mean I don't really want this game to collapse and last time we had a private conversation you were 100% ready to ragequit and Zerohex and I had to spend like an hour and a half talking you down and then you asked us to keep helping you so I thought it was better to avoid private conversations between us entirely since you seem a lot more stable here in the OOC. I really only want to see the game to keep going.

Also, I've actually been curious about this for a while, why are you so fixated on Layla being part of a group, anyway? Isn't it fine as long as she shows up eventually? Come to think of it, couldn't we just send one of those lost people owls over to Layla? Like, she could have just grabbed onto a leg or one could have swooped down and grabbed her pretty easily. Wouldn't that kind of solve everything right there?
@Jerkchicken It works. Feel free to stick it in the characters tab.

@clanjos I actually just realized you listed two qualities under Useful. Each Useful is actually a distinct quality, so if you can bring Legs down to 7 points then it'd be correct. Other than that, you're good to go and can post it in the character tab.

@Lmpkio After double checking and running it through a calculator I realized that Arms on yours should actually be 7 points and Head should be 4 points. I could have sworn it checked out last time but I guess I screwed it up somewhere. Anyway, just fix those two things and I guess if you're satisfied with it you can add it to the character tab.

@Nanashi Ninanai Well yes friend I'm not sure why you expected playing a computer waifu plot device to not be awkward.
I mean if you wanted you could also run an OG that's basically notALICE in notEx-S Gundam and tweak it however you want. Robot media has a long and storied tradition of blatantly ripping things off with minor changes.

@FallenTrinity So do you have any questions or are you just reposting this?

@Flamelord Okay friend.
Oh, I guess some people are confused about what's going on with Layla.

Essentially, early on in the thread I was told my character's weakness was "mobility", so I assumed that meant my character would have to travel more slowly, too. Just warping up to the school like it's a sitcom or something seemed like it would be a violation of that, so I thought I could just have Layla take a bus or something up there and it would only take two or three posts. Then it turned out that things with engines can't make it up the magic mountain so that idea died real quick.

I thought about having her beat up a hawk and make it take her or something but the bird was disallowed earlier and I didn't want to seem like I was trying to go against that ruling by picking it up right off the bat so that wasn't really workable either. So I settled on having dog adventures on Mount Fuji for a while and then I was told that some people were gonna be over near me but then it turned out they were at least halfway up the mountain going by Baklava's first post and my character was still nowhere near there, so I'm working on getting Layla over to that group first and then to the school proper.
