You do you know if you don't try? If you try and succeed...awesome! If you try and you don't succeed...at least you didn't let fear and doubt dictate your actions...

Plan on it...it's the only thing I know how to do.
Location: Local Coffee Shop

Caroline Dawson

It was around mid-morning Caroline was in her lite-green workout gear with her white Nikes as she enjoyed sipping a chai-latte while scrolling through her phone sitting at a table in a busy coffee shop. She was reading the postings from the station's social media page about her return last night. There were several postings and most of them were encouraging her and welcoming her back. Of course, there were a few that encouraged her to take a few extra pain-killers with Vodka but they weren't of concern to Caroline. The ones she was focused in on were the ones about her performance. She knew it would take time for her to get back into the swing of things and she reclaimed her title as "the queen of the nighttime airwaves." As a general rule, she hated that phrase but the marketing department at the station liked it and it worked for the station as helping establish their place in the market. The postings on her performance were overall good. The listeners could tell she was a bit nervous, and the self-confidence wasn't exactly on-par with her usual standards. However they did note a certain strength that was showing up that hadn't been there before, and that by the end of the night it felt like she was coming back to them.

Just then a red-headed gentleman wearing a red polo and gray cargo shorts approached her table. He asked, "Reading last night's reviews?"

Caroline looked up and replied, "You were the one who told me to not be afraid. Have a seat Nick." The Nick in question was Dr. Nick Rivers a psychiatrist that Bob-O recommended to Caroline. She was resistant at first, because Caroline was fairly well known in the area and she didn't want to be a distraction to Nick. So he agreed to meet with her in the coffee shop. Nick sat down and said to a waitress passing by, "I'll take a grande double espresso mocha with whipped cream." The waitress wrote down the order and nodded as she walked away.

Nick said, "Heard you last night."

As Caroline took a sip she raised an eyebrow and Nick continued, "First half-hour you sounded almost afraid of making a mistake and that showed in your music choices, and what you said. By the end of that time you began to sound like you were letting things come to you and you were more focused in on providing a service rather than living up to an image. Your last hour..." Nick smiled and said, "You were kicking ass all over that studio. What did you think of it?"

Caroline nodded and said, "Well I admit I was scared out of my skull, but then I decided it was time to move forward." Caroline put her cup down and said, "When my mom found out that she had cancer she gave herself about an hour of anger and sadness and then realized that she had people willing to help her and that we still loved her. I have people who love me here and want to see me recover from this." Caroline exhaled and said, "I mainly thought of my mom and once I let those thoughts guide me I began to..." She smiled and said, "Feel like me again. I know that things are going to be a roller coaster for a while, but I've at least gotten through the first hill."

The two of them then sipped their drinks as they continued their conversation. Every now and then someone would approach Caroline for an autograph or selfie request. Usually Caroline hated giving up an anonymity but in this case she didn't. Not to mention the encouragement she got from people passing by also made her feel better. After about an hour Nick stood up and said, "Okay how about Saturday in the park down by the statue of Tyler Pearson 11 am?"

Caroline smiled and raised her cup as she said, "I'll be there."

Nick left and Caroline continued scrolling through her phone as she enjoyed her drink.
@Randomness Robin is joining you in the O-R. Basically to assist you but that is all. Figured one she is the Science Officer so this would be of interest and in her area, but also two you're going to need someone to keep an eye on vitals and that sort of thing.
Robin was looking forward to her time exploring around the planet. They were on one part of the planet she was starting get curious about what the other areas of the planet were going to be like. As a general rule, planets usually followed a pattern of life. Some planets had civilizations that were barely getting used to the concept of the wheel, but one could see that system was on the verge of change. On the verge of growth and making breakthroughs though at times that growth came with a high price. Unfortunately that price sometimes entailed civil war or the loss of a civilization's foundation. Other times one understood that the journey that they were on was one worth taking. No matter how painful or difficult seeing them discover their potential as a civilization was breathtaking. Robin loved moments like those and she was honored that she was able to witness it a few times in her career.

Looking around Robin was impressed with the nature that was before her. It all looked semi-familiar on some levels, but Robin knew that when she studied it closely Robin would see many differences. A sly smirk crossed her face as she realized that she was about to see something new and there was a part of her that thought, "If they could see me back at ISS Science H-Q. Even Captain Hansen would be jealous of me." She set her gear down in the makeshift camp and then pulled out her portable scanner. With that she walked a few feet away and began running her scanner over some of the leaves of a nearby tree, and then moved onto a couple of the bushes. Robin couldn't wait to breakdown what the scans were showing. Her and Baby would be in the lab going back and forth on their findings and cross checking them with the ISS Science database. The anticipation for Robin was almost palpable this was one of those time she would be willing to pay ISS to let her work for them.

Just then came a shock to the system in that they had been ordered back to The Prize. Robin was crushed. Her anticipation was replaced with bitter disappointment and her wide eyed look was now a snarl. Robin took four leaf samples and but them in a bio-pod and said, "No way in Hell I'm going back without something to rub in Hansen's face." She quickly gathered her gear and before she knew it she was back on The Prize. As she made her way to the Bio-Lab she tapped her comm-link and said, "Baby it's me, listen get the lab up and going I got some samples for us to go over."

Baby replied, "Acknowledge Dr. Pearson. I wasn't expecting you for at least another two days. Judging from your voice and several of the communications through the ship I take it this wasn't a successful first contact."

Robin said, "At this point Baby you know more than I do. Although we haven't started a war yet so we got that going for us."

Baby replied, "Indeed Dr. Pearson your Chai-Latte is on your desk waiting for you."

Robin said, "Thank you Baby. I'll be there in one minute get the shower chamber ready to go and another uniform."

The doors to the Bio-Lab opened and in one motion Robin dropped her gear and began stripping out of her clothing and heading to the shower. In a matter of seconds Robin was clean and back in her standard uniform. Robin pulled out the bio-pods and hooked them up to a computer. She took her Chai-Latte and said, "All right Baby let's start with this one and give it the full work up."

Baby replied, "At once Dr. Pearson. I feel you should know that there is a situation occurring on the bridge." Baby gave Robin a complete rundown on the ship and their new passenger that Mason was preparing to operate on. Robin quickly downed her Chai-Latte, burning her tongue slightly, and said, "I'm on my way to assist Mason Baby. No further work until on the bio-pods until I get back."

Baby replied in a somewhat depressed tone, "Acknowledged." Robin let out an exhale and said, "Fine you can start on the first one that's it. If you do any others I promise you I will have you defragging the Science Database and re-cataloging the last two years of away missions in two dozen different languages." In a somewhat cheerful tone Baby replied, "Acknowledged and thank you...Robin." Robin let out a smile with a chuckle as she tossed her cup in the trash and made a sprint to the operating room.

Robin went into the scrubbing area and got ready to go into the operating room. She then realized that the door was locked. This didn't surprise Robin knowing Mason as she did, but Mason also trusted Robin and she was one of handful of people that he gave verbal authorization to unlock the door. She said, "Computer open operating room door authorization Commander Dr.Robin Pearson 126-068 Kappa Epsilon Nu." Robin heard the door unlock and she entered the operating room. She locked the door behind her and said to Mason, "Mason it's Pearson I got your back on this one." Robin knew enough about anatomy and physiology that she could assist in surgeries, and was rated as a field medic but she wasn't a doctor and she didn't want to be one either.

Robin walked over to a computer center on the left wall and punched a few keys. Within seconds she had the vitals and the patient's body on two monitors. She said, "From what I can tell vitals are within safe parameters but they're at the low end of the spectrum." Robin then opened a channel to the Bridge and said to the Captain, "Captain this is Dr. Pearson in the O-R. I'm patching in the video feed to the monitors at my station on the bridge. I will not open audio channels at this time and I will open them only if necessary. Dr. Pearson out."

Robin then turned her attention back to the patient and said to Mason, "All right Mason, Medical Recorder is running and things are still holding steady."

Stay in school, kid

(But class will go by faster if you think about writing during it)

I don't have a choice to stay in school...that's how I earn my paycheck. I'm a High School Librarian.
Post coming up tomorrow or Monday...gearing up for school to reopen...oh fun.
@MST3K 4ever I think it is just fine ;)

Thank you very much.
Sorry it's not a super long post, but it's enough to reestablish Robin with the group and where she plans on going.
Robin was not disappointed with the expedition so far. The life that was just teeming from this planet was amazing. It had been a while since she had been involved with a first contact expedition and she was hoping it wouldn't be the last either. As much as she enjoyed studying nebulae and various other anomalies from either a shuttle or the scanners of the ship there was something out being in the field. Robin would admit that this did somewhat appeal to her sense of adventure that would always be a part of her. The team that she was with made her feel comfortable. Knowing that Gue'rach had their back made her feel a bit more relaxed. On a lot of expeditions that they went on Robin at times felt like she had to also be "the muscle" of the group if something went wrong. Her commando training on more that one occasion came in handy. Especially om Vega-five when she not only had to help the team she was leading on an science expedition, but the fact that they crossed into a hostile area unintentionally turned the expedition into a fight for survival.

Using her recorder Robin made many observations and notes about the area. What struck her the most was though the area felt somewhat primitive and rustic Robin couldn't shake the feeling that there was so much to be learned from all of this. Her parents would call this "a learning moment" and they would be practically leaping over themselves to study any of the plants here or the ruins.

Elm made his suggestion about making camp in what once seemed to be the town square, and then splitting up to explore. So far Elm had proven to be an effective leader of the expedition. Robin was impressed with the way she carried herself, and maintained a balance between curious observe and leader. It wasn't always an easy thing to do Robin had seen the two extremes before. She either wanted to deck the leader for allowing them to almost get killed because they neglected the group trying to get their names in the science book, or the time Robin almost got court-martialed for taking over an expedition because the leader was running it like it was a military op. The military hearing sided with Robin and they recommended her for the Prize because of her actions.

Robin looked to Elm and said, "I'm with you."
