I’ve worked min wage jobs and I’ve done the bare minimum and have still gotten the measly ten cent raises yearly and good references from them. There really is no point, bare minimum gets you by.

Nuclear Reactor =/= Shoddy Fusion Reactor.

Fission =/= Fusion

Also meltdowns are still a thing. Japan knows that quite well.

Never said that wasn't a possibility. And Chernobyl comes to mind.

<Snipped quote by Nytem4re>

I just spent literally the last two pages outlining why a nuclear fusion reactor, of the variety Gren would be using, can be explosive. Radioactive at minimum.

Key word can, but if built properly it wouldn't happen. Show me actual evidence that it could be, since government agencies seem convinced that a nuclear fission reactor wouldn't be. And this reactor gren had wouldn't exist in rl anyway, since it is small enough to fit into a human body.

And we still don't know the actual energy output it's giving.

<Snipped quote by Nytem4re>

Last I checked Penny just ran on dustricity and wasn't liable to explode.

Remember kids, safe, clean power is the secret to a renewable future.

A nuclear reactor is no more liable to explode, and is clean energy technically. And again, I doubt Gren would need the power output an actual nuclear reactor provides.

But yes, changing the reactor to dust would probably solve this discussion.

<Snipped quote by Nytem4re>

A failsafe in technology Lucius specifically said he picked to be "old and possibly volatile"? As in, specifically to make the point that Gren was using low quality tech? A failsafe for a technology that it's dubious that anyone would have come up with in this setting anyway? All fitted into a reactor small enough to be used within the body of a single person without being detected?

Unlikely to an extreme degree, even- no, especially- taking into account the RWBY universe.

The decision to use teenagers for such jobs isn't even relevant. That's a different conversation and thought process entirely.

I mean, there's penny, but k. You could argue that's advanced tech but she exists.

Because otherwise we would not have a plot. That and the Hunters are Vale's equivalent to their special forces. Also those same people were were being sent on missions not too much later so its not really an entirely accurate to talk about them like that.

It was merely a parallel for him saying how improbable it would be for someone to let a reactor into a school. Which wouldn't probably be detectable in the first place the way Gren has it.
Why is anyone even considering allowing a source with power that significant and that volatile to be on a PC where it could blow up or irradiate the entire damn school, again?

Seriously, why?

Someone could have come up with a perfectly valid containment system/failsafe in the case the reactor is even remotely close to a breach. You know, sorta like a nuclear reactor? I mean RWBY has access to dust.

And in the first place, why did anyone even consider letting it's so called students run off and participate in activity that is regulated to the police/military, not 14-18 year olds.
I never said anything about an explosion. I'm pointing out the effect of a radiation leak from a reactor that is, by definition, leagues above any fusion reactor we have created today.

Fusion reactor we have today work by heating gasses to their fusion point, and as soon as we stop heating them, they repel each other again. Thus the reaction stops. Any reactor that powers something, and as such creates a net positive energy output, will need to be self sustaining. In other words, when the heating process stops, it will not instantly stop the reaction.

The reaction will continue after reactor breach. Eventually it will collapse, yes, but it is not instant. And until it does you will have an unconfined reaction occurring. Which will both put off a ton of radiation and, yes, have explosive potential. A fusion bomb is by definition an uncontained fusion reaction.

Fusion reactors are only safe by government standards because none of the ones we have created, ever, are on anywhere near the level of what would be powering Gren.

I think a rp based on a show where they somehow have flying ships and mecha, it's not too hard to believe that someone might have a mini reactor implanted in them (Gren could literally just say he has an artificial limb and I doubt the people checking, if at all, at a metal detector, would try say nope you can't go in.)

And here's the thing, RWBY doesn't follow rl logic strictly. I mean flying military ships, semblances? Mecha?

keyword is "None of the ones we created". Pretty sure RWBY doesn't follow the tech tree of reality. They have plenty we don't have.

How much energy Gren would need is never really specified anyway so there's that. I doubt he needs the full on power a city might need.

Whether the RWBY world is capable of creating a small scale fusion reactor, I will have to admit, is a bit of a stretch.

I know exactly what he's thinking of. I did the research using them to power mecha in another RPG setting.

Breaching a reactor potent enough to power a cyborg, and his weapon systems, would be catastrophic for anyone anywhere near him.

I still have not found anything that suggests a nuclear fusion failure would result in an explosion from government nuclear agency websites.

ec.europa.eu/research/energy/euratom/i..

And as prince of seraphs pointed out it's mainly a leaking issue of tritium that you need to worry about, evidenced here.

nrc.gov/reactors/operating/ops-experie..

So everyone would be getting radiation poisoning. And as the EU website stated, an event of a breach isn't of concern to the local community, just the people extremely close to the reactor itself. It probably wouldn't be a concern to people near it unless they are there for a while.

As long as there is proper containment, which is another story.
....

Do you have a n y i d e a how a fusion reactor works? Or what a breach would mean?

At all?

Literally anything?

Well in his defense, I think he's trying to think of a nuclear reactor type deal.

You can't make a nuclear reactor explode like a nuke. It's physically impossible.

But yes, there is the leaking issue if there was one. and that's what would kill people.
Posted. Sorry for taking a while. I honestly had trouble writing the post, so apologies for any mistakes.
Locke Bahadur

"If you want to talk to my girls, that'll cost you."

Locke bit back his tongue, not wanting to anger the woman. Why should he pay merely to ask questions? A part of Locke wanted to pull out his Kukri from under his coat to renegotiate, but Colonel Owens forbade him from causing too much trouble. Was this why the police told him they didn't talk to the girls of the so called Whorehouse? The whole concept was strange and alien to him. Locke did not wish to pay their "rates" if he could avoid it. "Could I at least talk to you?"

"Sure. I can do all the services my girls provide.. If you pay up. There'll be an extra fee, seeing how you're.. colored."

Locke sighed as he handed over a substantial amount of coin. The woman pocketed the money and led him through the whorehouse, which smelled terrible. Not quite burning flesh bad, but it was pungent enough to make him gag. Not only that, but there were muffled screams coming from behind several locked doors. And people supposedly paid for this? Locke knew the British had a different culture, but this was just outlandish. He would get his information and leave as soon as possible. The woman led Locke to what looked like a hotel room. The bed was... oddly stained, so he sat on a chair as the woman sat on the bed.

"The local police said one of your workers was murdered a week ago? Drained of blood?" The woman, who was about to undress, stopped as soon as Locke questioned her. She probably knew the victim personally. The woman gave him a look he had seen several times on the battlefield

"So you were actually here to talk. Why are you asking around about that?"

"I'm.... a private investigator. Someone hired me to investigate her death. Do you know who was her client?" Saying he was a vampire hunter was probably going to cause her to look at him as a freak. Possibly ill. And it was partly true after all, Colonel Owens gave him permission to investigate any death that may have been perpetrated by a vampire, so he was a sort of PI.

"Abigail always tried to convince me she had royal blood. I suppose if someone sent a private investigator, there's some truth to that, god bless her soul. And no, I don't. All sorts of men come through those doors, only the girls know who've they've been with. There's even been another one like her this morning. Barely alive. Knowing the local police, they would do as much for her as they did Abi. We even saw the man as he left.

"Please, tell me what who he was. Time is of the essence. I will do justice for your colleagues, Ms.?"

Natalee. We didn't exactly see his face. All I know is that he was wearing a blue coat, black pants, and black boots. Please, just tell me you will try and find justice for my girls. I know we are just whores, scum to society, but we're people too.

"It is my job after all, Ms.Natalee. I'll be right on it." Locke began to open the door to leave, but turned around to ask a question. "Ah... Is there any chance I might get my money back? Since you know I just wanted to ask a few questions?"

"No refunds. Didn't you read the sign at the front?"

Natalee then slammed the door in his face, and had not Locke stepped out of the way, he would have probably had a broken nose. It took every ounce of self-control in Locke not to break down the door and simply get his money back by force, But he now had more pressing issues at hand than lost coin. There was a potential vampire was out in the streets. And he was going to kill it.
