@VitaVitaAR Meh, guess I'll edit that at some point. I did ask.

Jared awoke with a start, bolting up into a sitting position with a disoriented yell, which tapered off into an agonized groan as he suddenly became aware of how sore he was. He reached to massage his aching lower back, only to be met with a muffled clang. Jared frowned. Then he noticed the sunlight intermittently gleaming through the foliage above him as it shifted in the wind. He was under a tree on a grassy rise, no sign of his apartment or downtown Tokyo, just rolling hills and fields with the occasional stand of trees, the walls of a town nearby, and a pleasantly warm breeze. He raised an eyebrow, then shrugged.
“Not New York, but I’ll take it.” His voice was different, he noticed. He also became aware of a weight on his shoulders when he shrugged, and something was poking him in the back of the head, and he still hadn’t figured out what made the clang-oh, full plate armor. And he was wearing a hat. And he had...a sword? Big one too.
“Cenadin. It’s Cenadin. I’m Cenadin?...Must be dreaming,” he mumbled. Everything seemed awfully clear and coherent for a dream, but that was still the best explanation. Alternatively, he’d been pulled into Emerald Odyssey, but that seemed highly unlikely.

Jared stood up, the aches in his body fading away rather abruptly. He set off down the hill at a steady lope. His movements felt free in natural, despite the weight of the armor, and most undreamlike. He broke into a full sprint down the hill. Still free and easy, not the running-in-waist-deep-water effect of most dreams. He stopped at the base of the hill as movement caught his eye, a slow moving brown something in the grass. A pig-no, a boar Jared corrected himself as he saw the creature’s tusks. As he looked at the boar, a yellow reticle popped up around the boar. Level 37 Boar-Neutral, it said, also displaying a red bar. That didn’t seem very dreamlike either.

Well, if he was Cenadin, dream or no, then he should be able to...he took a running start towards the boar and jumped. Luminous wings appeared above his shoulders and pulled him into the sky, then shifted and sent him hurtling down at the boar. “GET WREKT SCRUB” he yelled, and punched the boar directly across the face, even as the wings dissolved into golden motes that blasted into the boar. The unfortunate pig slid backwards a few feet and collapsed.

“Neat.”

The possibility that he’d somehow been sucked into the world of Emerald Odyssey as his character was beginning to look more and more likely. He had been playing last night, prepping for the update... The sword poked him in the back of the head again and he sighed. The model for that particular sword had always been a little janky in the game.

Jared-or Cenadin maybe, it seemed strangely appropriate to think of himself that way-set off into the fields at a leisurely pace, thinking things through. He had a few town portal scrolls on him, but he wasn’t sure heading into that area would be a good idea, not before getting his bearings and figuring out how to defend himself properly. Another boar trundled across his path, largely indifferent to his presence, though it ambled away from him as he got closer.

“Wonder if I can taunt...OY DICKNUGGET” he yelled. The yellow reticle around the boar promptly turned red, the boar squealed and charged him, catching Jared in the midriff and knocking him flat on his back. He let out a loud whoop as he went down, but was able to quickly right himself before the boar could charge him again. “Oh you are BACON my friend” he said at the irate pig. It charged again, and Cenadin drew his sword and held it over his head, imitating the animation which had accompanied Sacred Armaments in the game. A sword of light lanced down from the sky, exploding onto the boar’s back. It’s red bar shrank to almost nothing, and it abruptly turned and bolted off towards the road. Jared set off after it with a yell; “Get back here bacon!”

The boar was partially concealed by the grass, but Cenadin could keep track of it well enough. It burst out of the field and onto the road just outside of the town’s gates, giving the pursuing paladin a clear line of sight. A small icon in the corner of his vision seemed to indicate that Righteous Leap was available again, so he jumped after the pig, the wings once again bearing him aloft then driving him towards his target. This time, he stabbed out with his sword, neatly impaling the pig and killing it before the golden motes from the wings even reached the animal.

“Git Gud,” he declared triumphantly.

It was then he realized he was not alone. Two women-which his HUD identified as a ninja named Deneb and a cleric named Viridian-were on the road just beyond the town gate, looking at him oddly. Two guards at the gate, which his HUD did not provide names for, were also staring. He tried to pull his sword free from the boar to lean on it casually, but it was caught on something and refused to come out all the way. He tugged it more, causing the pig’s corpse to flop around awkwardly, until the sword caught an artery and a small spurt of blood caught Jared in the face. The sword came free at the same time, causing him to stumble back a few steps while he tried to wipe the blood away, though he only succeeded in smearing it around with his gauntlet. At last, Jared was able to plant his sword between the cobblestones and lean on it. Real casual.

“Sup.”

@Anza@PKMNB0Y
Gotcha, thanks buddeh!
@PKMNB0Y

Sorry for double post, need to clarify some details and far as I know mentioning someone in an edit still doesn't work.

How are we handling HUDs and monster deaths? From the IC, it seems there's a little confusion over HUDs, some characters have mentioned them, others haven't. Deneb for example can see everyone's level and class, is that a skill of hers or is that for everyone?

I'm having Cenadin take on some boars in my post, how do they go about dying? How does one get loot out of em?
Just wrapping up my post, sorry for the delay. Should have it up tonight.
Alright put him up in the Chars tab. Getting to work on a post.
Name (Former):Jared McQuarrie

Name (Character): Cenadin

Age:27

Appearance:

Character Level: 59

Character Class: Paladin

Personality:
Straightforward. Friendly. Naive. Stubborn. Loyal.

Five words that come to mind when describing Jared. He tends to call it like he sees it, a quality that endears him to some and irritates others. He is easygoing, social, and generally likeable from the minute you meet him. However, getting to know him better might make one revise their initial assessment. Likely due to his upbringing, Jared has very little appreciation for the difficulties other people may have faced in life. If pushed to the edge, he rarely backs down; argue him into a corner, and he’ll never listen to your logic. Make him lose his temper, and you’re cruising for a bruising. Together, these traits are an absolute dealbreaker for some people, but endear him to others. The upside of Jared’s conviction is that he’s extremely dedicated to his friends and anyone who has earned his trust.

Abilities: As a human, Cenadin has no special attributes, other than the increased strength and endurance from his class. Cenadin is fully specced out as a Paladin tank, using the powers of the Light to defend himself and allies, command the attention of enemies, and dish a little damage along the way. His most commonly used abilities are below.

Consecration: Everyone’s favourite Paladin ability. Creates a medium sized area of sacred ground. Friendlies in the area are healed for a small percentage of their health each second, while enemies take light damage at the same time. Short cooldown, to the point where high level paladins with the proper specs can maintain a Consecration almost continuously.

Endure: Temporarily boosts the Paladin’s maximum HP by 30%.

Unbowed: For a short time, causes the Paladin to heal for a percentage of their health when damaged.

Righteous Leap: Wings of light help the Paladin leap great distances. At the end of the jump, the wings burst into holy energy. Can be used on friendly or enemy targets. Friendly targets are healed, enemy targets are damaged.

Ward of Light: A shield of light blossoms in front of the Paladin, reducing incoming damage to him and all targets in a cone behind him. (Cenadin’s sole concession to mitigation tanking, because of the AOE protection it offers)

Sacred Armaments: Swords of light descend from the heavens, dealing damage to all enemy targets in an area.

Warcry: Incites an enemy target to attack the Paladin.

Skills:

Blacksmithing: It often pays to be able to make your own armor. Cenadin has invested a lot of time and effort becoming a proficient blacksmith in the Emerald Odyssey, though it remains to be seen how that will translate to the game’s….new state.

Mining: Might as well find your own raw materials. Cenadin can recognize and extract precious metals and ores when he comes across them in the game world.

Dance: Before the change, the Dance skill let a character use increasingly elaborate Dance emotes. Again, it remains to be seen how that will manifest now.

Additionally, Jared is a highly capable financier in the real world, meaning he has an eye for how economies change. This previously helped him turn tidy profits in the game.

Backstory:

Jared is an import to Japan. Born in faroff Toronto, Canada, he lived a comfortable upper class life, wealthy, but not obscenely so. He excelled in school, and attended an Ivy League university down in the US. Family connections, the university’s reputation, and an impressive GPA landed him a job at a global bank at the tender age of 22. Jared excelled in the finance-bro culture of New York, bringing in tremendous profits, partying hard, and living the good life. Following a few promotions, he was offered a very senior and very well paying position in the bank’s Tokyo offices.

Accepting that position was, in retrospect, a mistake. Jared has been in Japan for about a year, and is pretty miserable. He continues to be successful in his professional career, and he’s picked up the language quite well, but the cultural barriers have proven...problematic. He’s friendly with his co-workers, but not friends with them, and outside of that, he has no network, no way of meeting new people, leaving him desperately lonely. Jared misses his old life and his old friends, and his only sanctuary is Emerald Odyssey.

Jared originally picked up the game because his tutor had recommended immersing himself in Japanese media to help him learn the language, and he’d always enjoyed gaming, though never taken it very seriously. As he grew increasingly lonely, he became increasingly enthralled by the game, and now spends every hour he’s not at work playing it.

Cenadin started off as a bit of a joke; a paladin modeled to look like WWE superstar JOHN CENA! But he’s grown into a serious player since then. His ultimate objective is to have the highest HP total of any player in the game. Some internet digging told him what he’d need: a human-specific helmet called Crown of the Lion, and a two-handed greatsword called Balance of Judgement. The Crown is a high level raid drop, while Balance of Judgement is the reward for a high level Paladin quest. The path forward is therefore clear: level up, finish the quest for Balance of Judgement, GIT GUD at raiding, get the Crown, and stand back in admiration of his really big numbers.

Despite being a newer character, Cenadin is an excellent tank. However, without access to forums and videos and wikis, he will have to learn the new content through trial and error.

Other: His hat is a very non-lore friendly anniversary item, given out to be purely cosmetic. Cenadin has instead had it enchanted to give bonus health and strength, making it better more useful than it might appear.

Despite being a tank, Cenadin uses 2 handed swords. Emerald Odyssey does not restrict most moves to certain weapon types, so this does not compromise his moveset. Additionally, the endgame greatsword Balance of Judgement gives more bonuses to health than any known sword and shield combo, despite the reduced block chance.
@Burger Ohey neat!

Eh, I like the new one better :)
@Ozerath

how's this?

(I'm just kidding this is a really bad edit I'm just having fun)

I'll take it! :p

Seriously, it's perfect. The original was not much better and this works perfectly, complete with the hat and a lion motif for the armor.
Probably gonna have Cenadin out killing boars or something, have him meet up with Deneb and Viridian?

Oh guess I should move him to the chars tab as well.

EDIT: Haven't found the particular picture I used to have, it was somebody's drawing of John Cena shopped onto a drawing of a paladin/dude in cool plate armor. I think I'll just grab a generic pally pic, unless somebody wants to do some shopping for me?
