Name: Nikolaus Aeitos
Race/Faction: Human/Undecided
Age: 24
Description: Nikolaus has tanned skin from his days spent in the sun at sea. He has black hair cut short and slight stubble on his jaw. Nikolaus' eyes are Hazel, with a glint of mischief. He stands at a respectable 6’0”, and weighs about 175 lbs. During the average day, he wears soft boots and leather pants. While at sea he typically copies the other sailors and wears no shirt, that does not mean he can't dress respectably. For political functions, he typically wears decorative leather armor with silver accents.
Nikolaus after being at sea for a while. (closest to what I was thinking.)
Personality: Nikolaus is often calm and collected when dealing with people. He is also very relaxed with weapons, like a man who has dealt with them for much of his life. When something breaks his calm he tends to let his rage blind him which can severely hamper him. Nikolaus never looks to make an enemy out of someone, but he can come off as disinterested just by how relaxed he can seem. The most important thing to him is to protect the people of Yhore and do what is in their best interests.
"
Class": Duke of a southern province
Motivation: Nikolaus wants what is best for the people of his province, and if that means starting a war he just might do it.
History: Nikolaus was groomed to be a leader from the moment he was born. His father knew that the moment there was a weak ruler in charge of the fief it would all fall apart. Every member of the bloodline went through training and his son would be no different. The best tutors would be brought all throughout the kingdom to teach the young noble every facet in the art of ruling. While Nikolaus thrived in nearly every class he struggled in the art of deception and espionage. While he could tell a white lie, he was in no way a master schemer or a competent one at that. The subject the boy truly thrived in was the matter of war. At a young age, he could already see weak points in an opponents line and use terrain masterfully.
As Nikolaus grew older his father became more and more involved in his son's education. Nikolaus would go on trips with his father to the capital to be introduced to the nobles, but more importantly to learn the intricacies of the Kings court. While he was not on trips with his father, his education became more narrowed towards the focuses of governing and warfare. Whenever the boy had free time he would spend it down at the docks or playing with the other boys. When the young noble had turned 15 he had a falling out with his father. No one really knows what happened except a select few who were present. After their fight, Nikolaus fled to the docks and hid inside a ship. During the night the ship left port and set sail for the west. By the morning Nikolaus had been captured by the crew and the smugglers(does anyone honest leave port at night?) decided to let him stay on.
For the next 6 years, Nikolaus adventured the world, going far beyond the borders of the kingdom. He befriended foreign princes and hunted exotic animals in the dense jungle. He also joined a mercenary company in a war for 2 years where he got his first taste of bloodshed. It was with those mercenaries that he learned many of the tactics that he uses while commanding. Those same mercenaries also finished his education with the sword, turning the refined style of the nobles and bastardizing it for more practical use. While he was exploring he gathered many artifacts and treasures from all throughout the world. He became quite famous in lands to the south where he became known as “The Tattered Prince” as the captain of a mercenary ship that pulled off some daring feats. Eventually, the young noble turned man heard news of his Father’s failing health and decided to return home. He arrived in time to have one last conversation with the sick man before his father died.
Throughout the last 3 years, he has been making small but noticeable improvements to the fief he rules. Some roads have been improved and a few forts have been repaired in order to ward off bandits. He has also been employing some ruling methods he learned overseas, such as making a council of merchants and landowners to make day to day decisions about Yhore. Nikolaus has also cracked down on pirates and to aid with this he has begun the construction of a foreign ship type modeled after his own. All pirates who are captured or surrender will serve out their sentences serving on the oars.
Strengths:
Military Genius: His tutors were right when they said he had a natural talent in the art of war. He seems to be a prodigy and is able to react to nearly any move made by his enemy.
Soldier: While he is a decent swordsman, he is best in a chaotic field of battle compared to the controlled setting single combat.
Inspiring Leader: He seems to know just the right words that will inspire his allies to reach new heights.
Sailor/Captain: He has had his ship for the last four years and has been steadily improving in his seafaring skill.
Weakness:
Unimaginative Liar: While Nikolaus is capable of telling white lies, he can’t do much else in the realm of espionage.
Passive: He seems to lack the aggressiveness that would make him a nearly unbeatable commander. He seems to always wait for the enemy to make the first move.
Disconnected: While his years at sea may have taught him many things, they were also many years he didn't spend cozying up to the other nobles.
Uncompromising: When Nikolaus sets his mind on something, very little can dissuade him from his goal.
What is the most important thing to know about your character?
Nikolaus will not act rashly to join either side in the rebellion and will see the balance of power before acting.
What is your character's greatest flaw?
He is passive in his decision making and waits for all hands to be dealt before making his move. When forced to be aggressive Nikolaus can become flustered and easily make mistakes.
