The||Minerva||Archive
A collection of the esoteric, supernatural, occult, and unknown.

Director Simon Pierce
Personal Log
June 11th, 1986

"Our world is not what it seems-it never has been. What little time I have on this Earth I hope to devote to discovering these phenomena. Studying and understanding have always been the foundation of scientific research. I hope we are given the tools necessary to accomplish that task..."

Welcome to Castle Rock Complex || Site 11 || Dept. of Defense || Classified Location

Anyone may join! You need not even create a character, although it is suggested you do so. Alongside a simple narrative (with some plot points regarding the fate of the assigned staff & the archive itself) is a blank slate to create whatever you wish. This RP takes strong cues from the SCP-Foundation, Warehouse 13, X-Files, Hellboy, etc.

In this world, Conspiracy Theorists are usually right. Lizard-people, The New World Order, Loch-Ness, Big Foot etc. Fringe science is rampant in this world. Time travel exists as well as a few confirmed timelines. Hitler was definitely a clone and almost everything was an inside-job. There are also some really horrifying entities in this world, things of utter chaos. The Minerva Archive exists to study and catalog all of these things. I hope you'll join us!

Archive Entries

Anyone may submit an archive entry for players to review, adjust or build a plot-line around. Entries must be submitted in the OOC first! There are no length requirements for your entries, but quality writing is expected. I will try and throw in a few of my own here and there. Here are some basic guidelines for submitting archive entries:

@Rice Porridge@BingTheWing@ihinka@Pathfinder@Penny@Darcs@FantasyChic
Let's see what we get! First archive posts up relatively soon. You may submit a character sheet in the OOC with the format you wish.
I'll get an ooc together.
oh
it.
@Polybius I'm interested, but is there a format for the entries and operation reports we can make in the Archive?

Yes I was thinking about that. Since the possibilities of what the archives actually contain are pretty open to interpretation at the start of the RP, I was going to let the players submit their own formats but with a formal archive heading. Something like this:

Noparse version:

EDIT: It need not be that complicated either. Maybe something simpler?
To be clear, you need not even invent a character, although it might limit some RP opportunities. You could simply insert research files into the archive for other players to use to their own ends. I don't know if I've clearly presented the idea I have for this world-it's sort of SCP-Foundation but less disturbing and cruel. I would say it's like Warehouse 13 (but I've only seen like 2 episodes of that show). There is a bit of Hellboy thrown in, some X-Files, but the overall tone is not nearly as dark.
@Polybius
Are you telling me I could make an Occult Steve Irwin to write reports about?

I was thinking more Anthony bourdain, but yea sure! :)
Moving this to casual. Link changed a few minor things in the initial pitch of the RP.

Your assignment just arrived. Castle Rock Complex a.k.a the Minerva Archive. An underfunded Cold-War era research institute and archive that has seen better days. Supposedly, the Castle is on it's last leg and the Federal Government is pulling the plug. Looks like you've got a lot of boring, monotonous work ahead of you cataloging and organizing half a century worth of occult BS. Have fun!

OOC: This is a non-traditional role play in that you may create any number of characters in order to advance the setting canon. What do I mean by canon? These are assumptions about the world the characters occupy. Namely, occult science, conspiracy, and the supernatural all exist. While you may participate in the IC with straightforward narrative posts, players are encouraged to try alternate methods of role playing. Creating Archive Entries, sending e-mail or snail mail, writing up Operation Reports are just some of the things that are OK to submit in the IC tab. {{this section changed from the Advanced Interest Check Thread}}.

As World War II came to a close and an Allied Victory was assured, a division of the Nazi Special Research Division was tasked with investigating the occult, supernatural and even extra-terrestrial. The Office of Strategic Services dismissed reports of Nazi activity regarding fringe-science and 'mythological studies', but was soon forced to reassess the threats posed by the Occult Science Division.

While speculation varied, and was undoubtedly confounded by conflicting Soviet reports, the Allies took no chances with victory so close at hand. On May 8th, 1944 these suspicions were confirmed when a Soviet double-agent reported the death of Adolph Hitler1 on May 9th. Just as word of the death of the Fuhrer was received, an Allied Commando Unit2 successfully infiltrated a Nazi Submarine pen at Heligoland. Documents and artifacts captured in the operation would provide the foundation for what would eventually become the M I N E R V A A R C H I V E.

Footnotes:
1 It is unclear whether this is Clone 'A' or 'D'.
2 No records exist of this operation.

Take on the role of a member of an under-funded research and archive station known as the Minerva Project, aimed at investigating supernatural, extra-terrestrial and occult matters. With a recent bump in funding from a mysterious source (or probably a government oversight) the Archive is considering opening up new investigations and projects. This a non-traditional role play in that there will be no linear plot or narrative, instead relying on the creativity of the players to invent new objects, NPCs, events, data, research and plotlines themselves. My characters are described in the CLASSIFIED section below. More information will be made available in the OOC thread. Thanks for reading.
