All Might

Toshinori Yagi

All Might’s brows furrowed in further confusion at what Joel said — and especially at the fact that the man had looked at him like he’d suddenly sprouted a second head for not knowing what this Cordyceps infection was. By the sound of it, this infection had killed more people than one could imagine, definitely not something that would have gone beyond his notice.

Then again, hadn’t they reacted with similar unknowing at something he’d said that was equally impossible not to know? Perhaps some in the world would not know what he looked like in his weakened state, but there was hardly anyone in the world, especially in a closely allied country like the United States, that didn’t know the name All Might. At the very least, they should have looked at him like he was crazy for claiming to be such a legendary hero.

As realization began to sink in, All Might took another look around the room, at the wildly different people that had been gathered here with no explanation and no real idea where they were. There were styles of dress that differed wildly from one person to the next, some looking like garb from eras long past, while others wore futuristic suits of combat armor. Some had features seen only in fantasy and fiction, while others more closely resembled animals than humans, and there was even a robot. None of this was strictly impossible in his world of superpowers and crazy genetic mutations, but given the context, it was the final piece of the puzzle.

”Th-this… This isn’t my world…” he practically breathed out in stunned realization. ”In fact, I don’t think this is any of our worlds. That buzzing in the back of my head, my body going numb on me… That hadn’t been shock, or grief — I’d somehow been taken, snatched right out of the Hero Commission!”

As the reality of the situation finally sunk in, he returned his attention fully to Tess, Joel, and Sarah, his previous look of confusion replaced with the sort of stern confidence one might not expect from someone so outwardly sickly. He’d even stopped slouching, finally standing at his full imposing height of seven feet, two inches.

”That’s probably what happened to all of you as well, right? Wherever you were last, you just passed out and woke up here?” he questioned, his voice losing it’s previous meekness and gaining an almost heroic strength. ”And if we were taken, that means we were taken by someone, and for a purpose. The fact that such a purpose involves locking the lot of us in an impenetrable prison doesn’t bode well. I don’t want to panic you, but we could all be in very real danger here. Tess, Joel, the two of you seem capable and experienced in combat. Stay vigilant. As for you, Sarah… Try to remain calm and stay at your father’s side at all times, understood? Nothing about this is right, and I think we’re about to find out why very soon…”

”I… I’m sorry, infection? What infection are you referring to?” was his immediate response, a look of utter confusion on his face. The way she spoke about it, it seemed it was something bad enough to have ground at least a major city down to a hellhole. Sure, Japan may have been turned into a complete dystopian nightmare following All for One’s massive villain jailbreak, but even with all that, one of his contacts in America would have surely mentioned something like that to him, be it Melissa, Star and Stripe, or even Commander Agpar himself. Just what was going on here?

He was stopped from further inquiry when Tess’ apparent companions approached; the father and daughter that had drawn All Might over in the first place. It then occurred to him just how disheveled the three appeared, particularly Tess and the other man. Their clothes were old, threadbare, torn and stained, and their bodies seemed lean but relatively strong. At first, when he’d assumed this was a civilian shelter in ruined Japan, he’d just chalked it up to them running from the destruction of the freed villains, perhaps even as one of the many stubborn vigilante resistors, but no. They were survivors for sure, but just what was it they’d survived?

He decided now was not the time to launch into a game of twenty questions, especially when they would likely not reveal the answers to their current predicament. Instead, he gave the man and the girl a friendly smile and small wave of greeting when he was directly addressed.

”Call me All Might. It’s nice to meet you, though I suppose the circumstances aren’t the greatest.”

That one response, simple though it was, provided much more information than what it contained in substance alone. The fact that she addressed him as one would any stranger off the street told him he wasn’t in his native Japan anymore, even before she said a single word. Most everyone there would have recognized him instantly, even in his weakened form. It also told him that it wasn’t by virtue of him being unlucky enough to arrive unconscious that he had no clue where he was. In fact, no one here looked as though they knew where they were, and the tension of it all seemed to be manifesting in scattered outbursts of violence off at some distance.

He tried to push that distant fight out of his mind for the moment, though. He could do little good in intervening as he was, and it looked to be simmering down anyway. Besides, though the woman he’d struck up a conversation with seemed to be just as clueless to it all as he was, he could probably get more information from chatting her up a bit more. Not to mention at this point it would just be rude not to introduce himself.

”Ah, yes, I’m from Japan. The name’s All Might,” he greeted, giving her a soft smile and extending a hand in an offer for a handshake. ”And, if I assume by your accent, you’re from America, right? I spent my college years in America, University of California at Los Angeles. Haven’t been to visit in a while, though.”

As All Might picked himself up off the ground and tried to get his bearings, he began to become aware of many interactions going on around him. Most, like himself, were simply trying to figure out where they were, others making an attempt at greeting one another and making introductions. One group in particular caught his eye, however. A group that featured what appeared to be a tearful reunion between a father and his daughter.

Despite all that had happened that past day — or indeed, perhaps because of all that had happened — seeing such a thing brought a small, bittersweet smile to the retired hero's face. It was nice to see that, even in dire times such as these, meaningful things could still happen. He wondered if, after this was all over, such an interaction would be waiting for him, or if that was even a possibility anymore. Those thoughts caused him to absentmindedly pull his phone from his pocket, unlocking the screen and opening his text messages. The most recent ones were with his successor, Midoriya. Well… it was more accurate to say they were to Midoriya. They were mostly nagging little things, or at least that's how it looked with no responses. Asking after the boy's condition, urging him to take a rest and eat something, even offering to let him take a nap in the back of his car to keep from burning out. All just left on read.

Of course, even though his student had made it quite clear that he didn't need him anymore, All Might couldn't help but worry. He typed up a quick "how you holding up, kid?" and sent it off before he could have any second thoughts. Or, at least he tried to. His phone immediately reported that the message couldn't be sent. That was odd… Even in the midst of a national lockdown and martial law, his phone should have been one of the few left completely unrestricted. He'd just assumed he'd somehow ended up in one of the many shelters scattered around Japan, but had that assumption been incorrect after all? Just where was he?

Approaching the small group that included the man and his daughter, All Might seemed to make a conscious effort not to slouch so much. He'd noticed that he tended to look a bit too ghoulish in his scrawny weakened form if he didn't pay close enough attention to his posture. He already felt bad for intruding like this, he didn't want to creep them out on top of it all.

"Excuse me, miss," he began softly, deciding to address the woman of the group so as to not disturb the man and his child. "I don't suppose you know where we are? I don't recognize this as one of the Tokyo shelters…"

All Might stood almost in shock as he stared up at the screen displaying the feed from the American military satellites, at the battle currently taking place over the Sea of Japan. His eyes stared in wide horror at that titan of a woman clad in red, white, and blue, Shigaraki's hand fully clasped over her face. His entire body seemed to go cold on him as he watched America's #1 Hero, his first true protege, start to crumble to dust. He started to go strangely numb, starting with his arms and spreading throughout the rest of his body, even as Star and Stripe continued to valiantly fight on despite her disintegrating body.

'Besides, the request came from All Might himself! My Master's in a pickle! Why would I think twice?'

Those words from just a few moments prior felt like spears through his heart upon recollection. He'd done this. This was all his fault. Here was another starry-eyed child he'd lead to certain doom by the power of their admiration for him alone. No, his blame went deeper than even that. This was a monster he was supposed to destroy, but he just hadn't been strong enough. If he'd only tried a little bit harder, fought a little more ferociously, even if it killed him, then none of this would have had to happen. If only he'd… he'd…

But he couldn't even manage to finish his thought, his body collapsing under him, his vision going dark on him just as what remained of his American counterpart's body plummeted out of the sky.

"Cassie!!"

All Might called out the name as if waking up from a nightmare, his stringy blond bangs clinging to the cold sweat on his face. The first thing that registered to him was the fact that he was sitting on the ground, though he was distinctly not in the Hero Commission control room as he's been when he passed out. In fact, he didn't recognize this place at all, at least what little of it he could see through the throngs of people crowded around. Where the hell was he? Had he hit his head when he blacked out? Or, he dared to naively hope for a moment, could all of that have simply been a horrible dream after all?

Name: Piccolo

Age: 44

Gender: It's Complicated...

Canon: Dragonball Franchise

Main Thread or Sandbox: Sandbox

Starting Location (SANDBOX ONLY): Gotham, abandoned warehouse, arrived about a week ago

Personality: Piccolo is known to be stoic to the point of coming off as somewhat cold and uncaring, preferring to be blunt and to the point rather than dancing around the feelings of others. He is widely accepted as the most intelligent among his group of fellow fighters, possessing the wisdom and knowledge built up by three different Namekians that spans nearly a thousand years of collective experience. Of course, while this knowledge has made him a brilliant strategist, it didn't do much to improve his social skills. He's often somewhat awkward in social situations, particularly those that involve subjects of romance -- something he has no way of truly understanding, being from an alien species that doesn't need more than one person to procreate -- and it has often led him to be labeled as a prude. He's also known for his stubbornness and the ease at which he can be coaxed into doing something simply by presenting it as some sort of challenge.

Attributes:
Flight
Ki Mastery
Telepathy
Regenerative Healing
Simple Item Creation
Limited Body Manipulation (eg. stretching his arms or growing to a giant size)

Biography: Once, there was an orphaned alien child that had been sent into space to avoid the destruction of his species and eventually ended up landing on Earth -- y'know, the classic Superman origin story. Unlike Superman, this child was not adopted by a kindly old couple in rural Kansas, instead having to fend for himself in the barren wastelands of the northern mountains. Once it was clear his parents weren't coming for him, he left the mountains to find a better place to survive. What he experienced when he finally ventured among the humans was war, hatred, and cruelty beyond imagination. Such horrors were enough to drive the alien mad, to the point where he was split into two, body, mind, and soul. The two halves parted ways, the pure half becoming a low-level deity that watched over the Earth. The other half was pure evil, the embodiment of all the cruelty the alien had experienced, and came to be known as the Demon King Piccolo.

The two halves quarrelled for centuries, but neither could kill the other without dying themselves. It wasn't until a boy named Goku intervened that the balance of power finally tipped against the Demon King. Just before he died, the Demon King managed to form an egg that housed his essence and soul, essentially reincarnating himself into the Piccolo we all know today.

Piccolo was determined to carry out his father's plans of world conquest at first, but was soon forced to fight alongside his most hated enemy when a greater threat presented itself. This temporary truce led him to take in the young son of his enemy, Gohan. Planning at first to turn the boy into a weapon to kill his own father, Piccolo instead came to think of Gohan as his own son, and over the years the boy managed to soften the former demon's heart until hardly any evil remained.

Piccolo would later merge once more with Kami, his father's pure counterpart, and became a whole person at last. Since then, he has served as a staunch defender of the Earth against any that would threaten it. Don't believe the rumors that he'd just become a glorified nanny to his student's infant daughter, though. That's totally untrue. Complete lies and slander.

Name: Toshinori "All Might" Yagi

Age: 55

Gender: Male

Canon: My Hero Academia

Main Thread or Sandbox: Main Thread

Personality: With an infectious smile and an endlessly positive persona, All Might's very presence is often enough to raise the mood of any room he happens to walk into -- at least in his hulking muscle form, anyway. When in his weakened state, he tends to be quieter and more serious, having almost completely dropped his superhero facade for a more natural speaking tone. Either way, his heroic instincts are unmatched, and he often finds himself springing into action to save people before even having a chance to think about it.

Equipment: Super Suit- His hero costume designed and made by his oldest friend, Professor David Shield. The materials are state of the art and stronger than steel, allowing them to stand up to just about anything All Might may encounter in battle.

Hercules- (optional) A heavily armored and modified sports car that serves as protection and transportation for All Might in his weakened state. It has been seen taking the blast from a grenade head on without suffering so much as a scratch.

Attributes: One for All- An inherited power that boasts the combined abilities of it's previous users. Through this powerful Quirk, All Might seemed to possess almost unlimited strength and stamina, and for decades was nigh on invincible. After suffering a near-fatal injury, however, his abilities have greatly diminished, and he can only fight in full form for just a few hours a day.

Biography: Since he was very young, Toshinori Yagi had dreamt of being a hero. However, being born without a Quirk meant he had no special powers of his own. He eventually met Nana Shimura, who was so enamored by young Toshinori's determination to become a symbol of peace that she decided to pass on her own borrowed Quirk, One for All, to him.

He took to his new powers as though he'd been born with them, and in his late-twenties managed to skyrocket to becoming Japan's #1 Pro Hero, a title he would hold for the next thirty years. However, an encounter with the villain that had taken his master's life left him with debilitating injuries, and soon his abilities began to weaken. With his days as a hero numbered, he began to search for a successor to pass on his Quirk to before they faded altogether. He found that successor in Izuku Midoriya, a Quirkless young boy whose determination to be a hero reminded All Might so much of himself. He passed on his Quirk to him and dedicated himself to being Izuku's teacher while he still could.
