Some parts of Lyra's brain was working twice, three times faster. A person, flying, without being supported by anything? How does that work? A human body weigh quite a lot; it couldn't possibly be simple aerodynamic. Why isn't gravity doing anything to stop it? And look at the way she gracefully made her way down! It was almost like the air was an extension of her body, or perhaps she became an extension of the air?
Her violin played, quietly, almost imperciptibly, an orderly musical scale. Just as before, it stopped as soon as she noticed.
"Ah, uhh." Lyra stared dumbly for a while. "Oh, ma'am. Sorry, I'm just wondering how did you manage to do... that. Flying. It looks so," it took her an uncertain second before she found the word, "improbable?"
Welcome to the Restaurant. Feel free to wander the halls or take a seat in the bar. If you'd like a table for yourself, simply ask a waiter. Our windows give excellent view of the End, wherever in the Restaurant you are.
In the vast uncaring universe where everything is nothing but a speck of dust in the grand scheme of things, the Restaurant is an oddity. It sits in a time bubble, at the moments surrounding the End of the Universe, after everything that could happen has happened, after all the places and history and people has come and gone. No one know hot it came to be. They only know that it's powered by Infinity, seemingly being able to indefinitely sustain itself despite the destruction and/or non-existence of everything else, and that
There are as many ways to reach it as there are methods and systems and beliefs in the universe: the time travellers are given a brochure as soon as they figured the whole time travelling thing out, the dimension hoppers would probably crash land into it on their first trips. It's also not uncommon to have someone simply popping in there without knowing how they got there either.
Regardless of the mode of transportation, the Restaurant accepts everyone and invites all to come and bask in the glory of The End, which plays and loops back on itself right outside the window.
Food is free and seating can always be adjusted.
A Couple of Words
Hello, and welcome to the Restaurant.
Although the title and basic concept of the Restaurant is taken from Douglas Adams The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy trilogy, this RP is not otherwise related to the series. We do appreciate the jokes, though.
Character creation isn’t tied down to a specific world. You can make a wizard from the medieval age, an engineer from a magic-free 21st century, a soldier from an alt-history where Germany won the war, a fire dragon from a distant planet or whatever. I urge you to create one with a deep and/or interesting backstory so your character can have a lot to tell, but I won't mind either way.
This RP is more conversational than action-based. The tone I’m aiming for is light-hearted, relaxed, and good-humoured. You can make an edgy character, if you like, but don’t expect others to play along.
Feel free to join anytime. You don't have to read all the previous IC posts; the latest GM post and the posts afterwards should tell you all you need to know about the current situation and surrounding.
You can just jump into the RP without waiting for approval, but you should still fill in the CS and put it to the Characters tab to keep your character consistent. If you want your character to be a staff in the Restaurant, talk to me about it first.
You may leave the roleplay at any time. Just write something IC to explain that your characters are leaving, so you don't leave other players on a limbo.
If the pace of the roleplay is not to your liking, kindly talk about it with the players whose characters you are interacting with.
As this is Casual, not Free, you ought to do a bit more than a one-liner.
Whatever the GM says goes.
Stay cool.
Character Sheet
Name: Species: Age: Appearance: (Pic or brief description are ok) Personality: History: How did you get here?: (Time travelling, magic gone wrong, random pop? etc) Brief description of the world your character came from: (Medieval fantasy? A planet in the vicinity of Betelgeuse? If you like, you can put more information such as whether magic exists, the general lifestyle of the people, etc. )
I was planning on going to the greenhouse to join Zeke but apparently I am as distracted as Lyra is. I hope Vera don't mind if we might or might not spend a while bothering a flying teacher.
@Zelosse Most anime has a pretty good grasp of alternating being both serious and light-hearted/funny in the same scene, so if it's like what I'm thinking, that'll be a pretty good direction for the RP to go later on. (Also, whoa, I finally found someone who watches/read Nurarihyon no Mago?)
"Hmm. I'm not sure." Lyra looked at her surroundings, her eyes involuntary darting all over the place. There was the beautifully-built central building, but she had an odd feeling that she'd rather be outside than wandering in there again. Behind them, the hill sloped down and you could see the city sprawling underneath. It'll be quite a distance if they want to go there.
A thought occured very suddenly to her. Wind elementalist can generally fly, right?
Well, yes. But I don't think you should be doing that now, she could imagine her mentor from back then saying it. Who was it in your family who's a physicist? Your grandmother? She must've told you about how plane works, right? It's not something you can grasp in a day. But imagine if she could fly right now. Jumping off this ledge (and landing safely) would be the fastest way to town.
There was a little sound, a little tune, coming from her violin. The moment she noticed, it stopped.
"Ah, sorry if I space out there," Lyra said, remembering her new friend. Vera was waiting for her. "I was thinking of, hmm, flying. I wonder if-"
Lyra's eyes opened wide, as they caught someone up in the sky. Someone. Definitely a person, a teacher perhaps, hovering quite a way up in the sky. "Ah!" she gasped. "Who do you think that is?"
Oh, I haven't noticed that. Yes, I think it'll be something like that, although the setting will be more explicitly futuristic (even if the characters aren't).
Now that I think about it, I don't think I can be active enough for a quick-paced Free-level RP. So this will probably be Casual. I'm working on an OOC right now.
@Lady Selune: I don't think I've heard of The Nameless Tavern before. What is it? @RinOkumara: Uhh, as in Free instead of Casual/Advanced, or free to enter instead of having to apply first, or free to do whatever instead of a stated plot?
Yes, I stole the name from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
So I'm thinking of a free-for-all roleplay, where you can be literally anyone or anything, from any time period. Somehow, whether deliberately, by accident, or just because you're passing by on your way somewhere else, you found yourself stuck, at least for a little while, at the Restaurant. There you can meet other people in the same situation as you are, although they'll likely have very different origins. The roleplay will mostly revolve around conversing with each other, recalling and comparing your experiences.
The Restaurant is a place suspended in a time loop few moments around the end of the universe. From its glass window you can see the universe exploding at the end of its life, before looping back to the moments before it, so you can watch the shebang over again. Powered by hand-waving infinity, it can also serve any food or drink you can think of.
Character creation won't be tied down to a specific world. You can make a wizard from the medieval age, an engineer from a magic-free 21st century, some soldier from an alt-history where Germany won the war, or a fire dragon from a distant planet, and they can all hang out together in the Restaurant. In-story there'll be some security to make sure there's no wanton destruction of properties, but you're free to make your character as crazy, or normal, as you like. Just note that this is more of a conversation RP than a fighty one.
I'm thinking of putting this in Casual, with Jump-In instead of Apply (although there will still be a CS), but I'm not sure yet.
