Current Teaching myself web development by trying to fix some BBCode bugs/features in the Guild is probably a bad idea. Oh, well.

If school were less hard, it'd be less interesting. I still want it to be less hard, though.

Hello! I'm looking for some roleplaying myself. None of your proposed plots immediately caught my eye. However, your genres did.
~o~0~o~

About myself:
25, engineering student, so I'll get busy, but two posts a week in a 1x1 shouldn't be horrible. I'm not looking for smut, but not opposed to romance, should it evolve naturally. I've written a few long posts in the past; I think my average tends toward 4-5 paragraphs. My primary problem with roleplaying is having to read 4-5 really long posts in a row in a group RP that's moving quickly. I tend to forget the overarching plot and need to write summaries for myself in those cases. I absolutely adore character creation and world-building, almost to a fault. It's been a little while for me, as well.

I, too, do not want to be pulled off this site. I subscribe to the Shriver perspective; if I limited myself to my own experience, all I could write about is a college girl struggling to do her damn thermo homework. If I want to actually write, I need to empathize and imagine. My point is that I have no qualms playing male or female.

Thrillers, action, horror, the occasional drama, World War II and the Cold War, and witty comedies are some of my other favorites.
I like crossovers, roleplaying as the crew of spaceships, some fantasy, and occasionally a superhero thing.

Proposal: (Please indulge some sentence fragments)
Cyberpunk noir? Shady supercorps acting on against species interests, to the discomfort of all (including top execs?). AI-myth that may not be a myth. Cyber-janitors. Really big buildings. Random dieselpunk elements - 8-block square arcologies, built when the future was a hopeful thing. Picture 1930's visions of the future. Older tech follows dieselpunk lines? Interesting symbolism - hearkens back to "golden age", but now dirty, disused, and shady. Modern buildings are slimmer, glowier, with more glass, steel, and holoscreens. Needs development. Worldbuilding. Characters. An actual, more concrete, plot. Perhaps adapt one of yours?

Overall, a dystopic cyberpunk city built on the aging guts of an optimistic dieselpunk one, with deeper mysteries lurking behind every netpoint. Those that poke too deeply into the darkness tend to never be heard from again, for one reason or another, but if you're careful, you can make a living doing merc work. Random bits of inspiration pulled from Shadowrunner, google image search, The Expanse, and Lovecraftian, deep, dark mystery-holes that shouldn't be poked.

Frakkin' heck, that was a lot of words. Maybe I should've PM'd.

The Interspecies Dominion's world-classification system lists Earth as a deathworld. Any being foolish enough to explore a class 10 and above planet can only do so through the exercise of extreme caution. According to the Corti Directorate, Earth is class 12. Factors include: its many predatory species, highly varied climate, high gravity (1.43 times the galactic standard), and particularly virulent microbiology. A few dangers examplary of the planet are: tornadoes, earthquakes, wolves, bears, fungi, salmonella, and Clostridium tetani. Earth is of particular note for being the only deathworld to host a sapient species, humans.

A Few Races:

Gaoian

Human-sized angry fluffy space-racoon-bear-dogs. Evolved on a class 9, so they have a similar outlook on life.
Allies of humanity (more-or-less).

Corti

Arrogant, frail little gray men that genetically engineered their race to be intelligent. They try their damnedest to control their emotions.

Vzk'tk

Mildly dimwitted blue giraffes, but very populous mildly dimwitted blue giraffes. Herbivorous with herd instincts, tend to defer to their cousin-species, the Rrrrtktktkp'ch.

Rrrrtktktkp'ch

Giraffes with way too many arms. Cousins to the Vzk'tk, assuming the role of caretakers. More intelligent, but also far fewer. Tend to be solitary.

Guvnuragnaguvendrugun
Very furry giants with bioluminescent flanks. Pentachromats. Very deliberate and plodding, tend to take their time with anything, especially their language.

This roleplay is set in/based on the Jenkinsverse, a series of stories in the HFY subreddit. While helpful, it will not be necessary to have read through the main series. Each RP'er will be roleplaying a ship of independent aliens or humans or some combination thereof. The fleet has been assembled and hired to investigate things, explore places, and occasionally fight battles for a Corti information broker known as The Contact.

That's the basic premise.

Interest? Questions?
Okay, sure, @Voltus_ventus let's talk about tech a bit. I had no preplanned idea for the UPR's tech level. I did mention steam engines and a magical healing plant, but that could go a lot of ways - steampunk, early industrial, magic steampunk, no magic but with a superstitious population calling science magic.

What do we, in general, think about tech? There's no requirement that everyone even developed at the same pace.

@bluetommy2 No, your sheet from the interest check is fine. Go ahead and post in the characters tab.

@Charles Approved! Go ahead and post in the characters tab.

@wxps350 Approved! Also go ahead and post in the characters tab.

@Sadko Also approved! Post your sheet up in the characters tab.
Sorry about the delay, I was traveling for the New Year/Christmas. OOC is here.

@Charles The NS seemed like a succinct way to get the concept across. That's why I put it here.

@Voltus_Ventus I wondered where I recognized you from! Hello!

~o~0~o~

@bluetommy2 I like it! I definitely appreciate how you roped in orange and cyan.

~o~0~o~

@Superboy Yep! The plan definitely includes plenty of worldbuilding.

~o~0~o~

@Sadko I like it, but your summary is 63 words. If it was 51 or 53 words, I wouldn't care, but that's a solid 26% more than the word limit.
Name of Nation: The United People's Republics

Color on Map: Seafoam

Summary in 50 words or fewer: The UPR is a major trading power about to undergo a major economic collapse. Its primary exports are magical healing spices grown on its islands, and lifting gasses (i.e. hydrogen and helium) from its interior.
This is a triplepost (sorry!) because I need to @mention some people.
Status of Nations
(note: only post your nation in the characters tab after it's been approved)

Nations that are available are white, nations that might be a good idea to take** are bold italic white, claimed nations are gray, accepted nations are full color.

Maroon | Dark Blue | Salmon | Olive
Seafoam | Hot Pink | Yellow | Purple | Bright Blue | Tan
Lime | Baby Pink | Green | Cyan | Orange | Red

The Goal:
A functional, reasonably-long lasting NRP.

Many NRP's seem to fail from the start. This NRP seeks to avoid that by having a minimalist nation sheet. Other RP's seem to fail during the course of the game. I'm trying to avoid that with specific, straightforward rules, heavy reliance on player interaction, and "roleplaying agreement" to fill in the gaps from nation sheets.

This is, of course, somewhat experimental, and may fail gloriously.

The Genre:
I see no need to specify this. We're roleplayers making a fictional world; whatever schizo-tech-magic mashup that results is just how that world is.*

The Rules:
  • You must post two to three paragraphs. No less than two, no more than three. New paragraphs for a line of dialogue won't count toward the total.
  • Unless you've said something to the GM, failing to post once every week means you will be kicked (school is an acceptable excuse!).
  • At least two out of three posts should contain some kind of interaction with someone else's nation. This could be a diplomatic overture, troop movements along a border, espionage, trade, or any of the other millions of things nations do to and with each other. If we're not interacting... what's the point?

.

Nation Sheet:
***DO NOT ADD ADDITIONAL CATEGORIES TO THIS SHEET!!!***

Also, please try to refer to at least one other nation in your nation sheet. That's a guideline, not a rule, but it's a guideline that will help spur interaction.

Name of Nation: Your Nation's Name

Color on Map: Which color on the map your nation corresponds to

Summary in 50 words or fewer: What your nation is/what your nation's all about

Write three solid paragraphs (doesn't have to be about your nation): This is to make sure that you're a reasonable writer who actually has some level of commitment to the RP. [If you need a prompt: "Unlock new potential for your civilization through active research in both technology and culture."]

Map:
-The map is an icosahedron, the shape of a d20.

I'm here, doing some research now.
Seems fun. What period of time does this RP take place in? Also, Stranded could really use a reboot.

It's a fictional world, so whenever. We can handle technological disparities; if it comes up, that's just the way our world will be.

I may be interested in rebooting Stranded. I would have to try and figure out why it died and how to prevent it doing so again, first.
