Eastern Woodlands:
"How odd!" The Ferream observed after the wolf drew the helmet.
"Perhaps, it is curious of the Illis?" The philosopher spoke in response.
"Let us teach them than!" Marsh boomed impatiently.
He than grabbed a stick and drew a picture of a rock being hollowed out by a sharper stone and being placed on an Illis's head.

Technological advancement.
Rock shaping: 1/2 (Brought forward by Society teachings)
Basic armor: 0/2 (Idea given by Society teachings)

Leif drew a ring around the hollowing out of the rock in an attempt to show what he wanted, watching their leader with a tilted head.

The corpse of the Illis were distributed fairly, leaving one completely intact after the first bite of testing. One of the hounds dragged it over into the dens where the young were allowed to feast, while the other had been picked clean down to the bone by the adults.

Borje looked at the drawings, then at the hollowed out rock that they now knew it was and inspected it closely, sticking his head inside of it and shaking his head around lightly. It did not seem to fit on a hound. He pulled his head out and barked.

"We would have to shape it differently to fit us. This rock is of no use for us."

Leif kept his gaze focused on the creature's leader but responded still. "Keep it if they allow us. It might be useful somehow. Do not throw away what we may find use for later."

Borje gave up a low grunt and sat down next to the hollowed out rock.

I said think roughly two years a post, but don't hold yourself to it.

I think that is a pretty good system, if you ask me. Two years a post makes things easier to keep track off. Though I feel like I may need to post a longer post next time that fast-forwards me the time I've spent interacting with other players instead of forwarding my race, while remaining within reasonable levels of progress and such. 'Cause looking at how many posts others have done while the Ashen have moved nowhere whatsoever is a bit stressful, to be honest.

I tend to agree with Veoline that some kind of system would be nice. Maybe it has to do with my planning problems, but I'm not exactly sure how much time should pass with each post. I feel like some kind of unified time-keeping system (out of character, of course), no matter how simple it is, could help. Just my opinion, I'm not an expert roleplayer.

A sort of system would absolutely be useful, but if I am not mistaken Mihndar did mention some sort of guideline of a year for each post or something along those lines, don't quote me on that.

I actually don't understand what you mean by that. The page-based time system would be for our use only, and would be independent from the various calendars devised by each individual race.

That may have been a misunderstanding from my side, but my previous points stand.

As for your point about that military technology is not everything...
You are partially right, but I would also argue that you may be wrong.
Yes, it is not everything, but a race falling behind would do so in every aspect, military was just an example.
And military technology is extremely important when there are some people doing raids left and right.
Thank you all for shutting down Veoline better than I ever could have done myself.

Always at your service, comrade.

I don't really see how it would make things worse. Players won't post more or less than before, so their pace of advancement (each race has a different evolution; military technology isn't the only path forwards) shouldn't change much from what it is right now. That's what I would think, but I might be wrong.

Besides, when we reach the "modern" age (that is when all races are in contact with most others and have relatively advanced i.e. Renaissance Europe technology) we'll need a precise time system, so why not implement it right from the onset?

Because none of the races have invented a precise time system and shared it with the other races, which is how I'd expect it to work in the first place.

As for the development, I have shared my thoughts on it, I feel like it could cause more harm than it would help, at least in this stage of it.

<Snipped quote by Raindeer>

I think that we'd see to it that no player develops unrealistically fast. I don't think the posting rhythm should really change. 10,000 years have elapsed since the invention of agriculture, after all. I'm not suggesting we fill in 1,000 pages, of course, but the point of the system would be, among other things, to allow our societies to evolve at a historically plausible pace.

It is not so much the case of a player developing fast. It's the case of some being left behind and developing slower because of the interactions. For an example we currently have people with bronze weapons and leather armor while some of us are yet to figure out how to shape wood into a suitable protection of some sort.

The rhythm have worked out somewhat well so far, even if I myself feel extremely rushed to get interactions done already. My own opinion is that the system would most probably make that problem even worse.
@Nerevarine
Out of curiosity, how many of your troops are heading towards the locations? Numbers would be good to have.
@Raindeer

I understand your objection. Perhaps we could extend the number of pages corresponding to a period of time to 10, or more, which should allow everyone to complete several storylines including some concerning only their own species. Since the creation of the RP, the players have only written 10 pages, so it would seem a pretty good compromise. To compensate for the greater number of pages, we could also extend the time period to 200 years, if anyone cares.

Even then I have doubts in it going to make things work better for those of us that interact a lot. At least now in the beginning. I would have to write posts the size of a smaller book to get everything I want said/done within that timespan, which is something I extremely rarely have the time for.

I feel like it may also discourage interactions because of that pressure to further your race to not get left behind in the dust like a tribe in the rainforests of earth shooting arrows at planes as they fly by.
Thanks Mihndar!

I'll try to post as soon as possible, but I can't guarantee anything.

Edit: I sure hope so. I hope there won't be too much competition though, not to mention the slave-raids haha.

Edit 2: Everyone, I have a suggestion for a more precise timekeeping system. So as to keep track of time, yet simultaneously leave enough freedom to each player, we could establish a system where a given number of pages, say 5, would correspond to a given period of time, say 100 years. Any post in these 5 pages could take place at any point during these 100 years. A post on the 6th page, however, would necessarily take place during the following century, unless someone urgently needs to close a storyline, of course. If you wish, you could have all your posts follow each other in quick succession over the course of just a few years, for the sake of continuity, or you could just as well decide to have each post separated from the next by a couple years, except, naturally, for conversations and interactions with other races, which would be dated from the post in which they started.

While the idea itself is pretty good, it could be troublesome for those that are not able to post as much as others, as well as for those that interact with a lot of other nations, making it tough to get a post about the race itself through. For an example I am currently interacting with the Society and the Soruli, which means that for the last 6-7 pages or so (Don't quote me on that.) I had done no progress for the Ashen themselves.
