@deadpixel101: Are you posting, or do you want me to go ahead and post first?
As a god, will it be possible to die, or are the characters immortal after the event?

I'm thinking about a young character who knows the consequences of that sort of power-hungry, corrupting iniquity and dedicates himself to preserving whatever traits within him are good, to edify himself and do with his powers the great things he always wished to do.
I'm very interested!

(Although truth be told, I misread "Ansus" for "anus.")
I'm interested.
@Tulpa: The rest of the magic system is still TBD.

Familiars... I'm going to write a tidbit about them to clarify how they work in this universe.

In the beginning the Magic users—called "the Blessed"—performed great miracles and astounding feats of power on their own. They channeled their energies alone and grew in power unguided, that is, without aid from any others but their forebears and predecessors, who had also endured such trials in perfecting their powers. A thousand years ago in the antiquity of the Blessed, a gifted youth named Ammi-Ditana walked by the riverbank. There he found a bird, whose leg was broken, lying on the brink of death in the dirt. In his mercy, Ammi-Ditana performed a mighty dead: he saved the bird and mended its wounds with his healing power. As thanks, the bird created a pact with Ammi-Ditana and became Ammi-Ditana's companion. From the bird, the youth learned to tame the wind. Because of the legend passed down the ages, Ammi-Ditana was remembered for having the first familiar, the bird who taught him to lord over the air.

Familiars serve as companions to the Blessed. The kinds of familiars available to the Blessed are these, written here in their Latin names: the animalium (singular: animalis), animals who have formed positive attachments and companionships with people; the spirituum (singular: spiritus), the spirits of people who have died and manifest in the world to serve people who call for their aid and knowledge; the geniorum (singular: genii), evil or self-serving spirits who form pacts with people to get their way; and the mortalium (singular: mortalis), people who are friends, family, or lovers of people and aid them. The Blessed do not choose their familiars, and in choosing to serve a Blessed one, a familiar does not relinquish totally its free will. Furthermore, the animalium and the mortalium can die unlike the spirituum and the geniorum, who normally lack a corporeal form and cannot be seen except by the Blessed or when intentionally revealing themselves.

The animalium function similarly to pets or tamed beasts. They usually try to protect the Blessed one they serve, and they typically follow commands easier. The Blessed can still learn more about magic with the help of animals, but animals aren't as good at teaching abilities as the spirits or the demons.

The mortalium commonly have a preexisting relationship with the Blessed one they attend to. They, the spirits, and the demons have much more free will than the animals and consequently also more intellect. Their understanding of magic is equally as limited as animals, and more often than not they learn more about magic from the Blessed than the Blessed do from the mortals. Nonetheless, they are good companions in their own regard and offer much support, especially that of the emotional sort.

The spirituum are the souls of the dead. They either leave the land of the dead to aid the living or keep their postmortem presences in the mortal world to watch over people. Their knowledge usually depends on their age. A spirit that has observed the living world for a long time knows much more than the spirit of someone who has only recently died. Unless they take the body of a recently dead animal or individual, they cannot physically aid the living, but they help by supplying knowledge and giving better advice than mortals.

The geniorum are demonic in nature. They are either corrupted spirits, that of fallen angels or of dead spirits of depraved individuals. They prowl about the world seeking mischief and evil, and their lack of morality results in their lack of concern for human life. They are the most difficult to control, and they try to form pacts in order to possess bodies and do terrible deeds or fulfill a nefarious purpose. Attaching to a Blessed one may give them more power and control, and the Blessed who join with the demons may become slaves to the demons or lose themselves and die corrupt.
Petition to make Darius the "God of Commas and Filler Words."
Darius
@Laue
The young, hot-tempered Agrellon exploded in a verbal fit of rage at John in the instance John's nastier magic manifested and preached death to John. The immediate shift in demeanor made Darius take a few guarded footfalls backwards, but the captain and Syldric quickly curbed Agrellon's wrath to prevent escalation.

That display of restraint soothed the high school student, and he felt his shoulders relax. Under the boughs of the surrounding arcane trees, the elves pressed further into the interrogation. Darius looked above at the flora, which he had only recently acquainted himself with, in curious fascination while John cut into the details of the journey thus far and the dreams of the godlings. The minutiae of the dream John had correct to the letter, but in the discourse about the cosmology of the world, John swayed into uncertainty and misunderstanding. Yes, John was knowledgeable on Earth, but his knowledge of their current whereabouts was limited. Out of social intuition, Darius surmised that John could neither comprehend the world they found themselves in nor defect from the precepts of his earthly perspective.

"Now, uh, hold on," the young man interrupted before the conversation imparted from the current tangent, and he readied himself to qualify all the assumptions. "We are not from the Planetae." Great Barrier... Planetae... wandering star cities... Taking a marked glance aimed directly above, he hastily pieced together his thesis then and there before speaking again. "I assume that the Great Barrier is like an atmosphere of sorts... this world has an upward bound that cannot be crossed. And the Planetae are not beyond the Great Barrier, but they are rather under it. So," Darius paused to look in John's direction and then at the elves who now became the target of the teenager's dialog, "the Planetae are basically floating cities and islands. We are not from there. We are definitely from beyond the Great Barrier and beyond this world entirely."

Darius paced around for a short while and attempted to fix glasses on his face but was met with skin. "Oops, I don't have glasses anymore." His sight was much clearer without glasses, so much so that he mistook his new clarity for glasses. He pondered what he knew then about that foreign place, and he drew a long breath of focus while he created a way to convey what he wanted to say without creating further confusion. "No. We indeed come from a world beyond the Great Barrier. I can understand that it runs contrary to the world you know, but it runs contrary as well to the world I knew."

He stopped in his tracks and turned to look Syldric in the eye. "That woman. She, or somebody at least, brought John—" Darius briefly gestured with an open palm at his acquaintance then held his hand to his own chest, "and I here to this world. Where we are from there is indeed no magic. The question of god in our world is disputed." The brunet waved his hand in the air at the wildlife, saying, "Here, obviously, the opposite is true. Suffice to say, the certainty of those facts here is more comforting to me than the shakiness of opinion in my world." Shifting his weight to one foot, he brought his hands to his sides and peered into the captain's eyes. "I know that what John and I have said sounds wrong and blasphemous, but please be patient with me." He wished in earnest for the elves to hold back on their scrutiny. If they saw his innocence and his benevolence, perhaps they would be more relenting. "May we, uh," Darius cleared his throat stiffly, "make peace?"
@Tulpa: Familiars are allowed if they are animals or if they are normal people, but not both and not anthropomorphic. You could have a hawk or a cat, for example, that was your spirit animal, an animal that became attached to you, or a kindred spirit that takes the physical form of an animal. Or you could have a friend or partner who became your familiar to assist you or a kindred spirit that takes the physical form of a human.
@Tulpa: I don't really know. I'm a little against them since they don't 100% fit the setting as I've planned so far, but there's potential for them later. If not as players, then as NPCs.
Bump, bump. Let's see if I can get a few hits on this.
