LWF stood for Lorne, Wells, and Fargo, formed from the purchase of Wells Fargo and Company by Lorne Corporation in 2093. Wells Fargo and Company was one of several banks in the late 2080s whose machinations screwed over a large number of Mars and Earth's people by encouraging loaning to people who were not guaranteed to pay back their mortgages and loans. The shortfall caused Wells Fargo to collapse and millions to lose their homes to foreclosures and declare bankruptcy. The UN Assembly bailed Wells Fargo and other banks out, and the Wells Fargo purchase enraged the struggling working class because Lorne Corporation soon built Wells Fargo back into a banking giant in order to expand its inescapable influence and turn more profit off the lower classes' economic hardships.
