Meren's outburst made the Samurai flinch ever so slightly, she hadn't be scolded since before the Apocalypse so it was quite a surprise for her. She couldn't really respond to the Shieldmaiden because she was mostly just shocked. As soon as she opened her mouth to form a response, the Assassin stepped towards them, justifying Matsuko's actions with his own philosophy. 'They were just.. annoying..' She wanted to say, however that probably wouldn't bode well with the Cleric.
"It's okay.." she replied somewhat quietly as Meren apologized to her, taking another bite from her sandwich. The Cleric's smile and healing spell caught Matsuko off guard. She wasn't used to people making a complete 'one eighty' in tone of voice, which made her even more awkward and shy than before. But her expression didn't really change all that much throughout that exchange.
Matusko's gaze moved to Aries as he continued speaking.. He was interested in them? Had she been some typical anime heroine, she would've taken that the wrong way. Fortunately, she wasn't. Although, who could take it the wrong way when this man sounded like he didn't even believe what he was saying in the first place? 'Maybe he's just bad at being nice.' She couldn't help but laugh inwardly, a slight smile forming on her features.
"How about we all head back to town and share a round of drinks and food?" was the sentence that pierced her thoughts. She couldn't tell if it was just the game being weird or if Meren was actually sparkling and shining like a goddess. Within an instant, the Samurai inhaled her sandwich and grabbed the Shieldmaiden's hands, her eyes sparkling like the stars. "I humbly accept your offer! Shall we go eat now?" She asked in an excited tone, her mouth watering slightly; an extreme contrast to the way she was acting just moments before. Food is life, food is love.
After her strike she had gotten close enough to both the Guardian and the Kannagi to use <Samurai Challenge>, but suddenly a giant circle of steel smashed into her, dragging her across the clearing like a raging bull. The force of the blow was so powerful that her body felled a tree. "Salutations, how are you all doing and is there for this commotion?", the shield maiden asked. Matsuko would've been more grateful for the assistance if it didn't come crashing into her. The two would-be PKers looked around in confusion as another player emerged from the trees.
"Hey. Let the girl fight. If she loses to low level trash like this, then she deserves to be sent to the cathedral.", he said with a bitter tone. She couldn't help but feel a little upset by his tone of voice, but his presence allowed her to sheath her sword once more, getting up from the rubble that was the tree.
"H-hey don't get in our way! Her items are ours!" shouted the Kannagi. He seemed quite unsure of himself since they were the lowest levels in the small clearing. Matsuko glanced between the two newcomers. Meren is someone that she's heard of, but never really spoke to. The Shieldmaiden was pretty famous among the tank players. Whereas, she's never heard of this Aries player... She mentally shrugged as she wordlessly advanced toward the PKers. She looked at Meren as she walked passed her, "I'm just being attacked, that's all." she stated plainly.
Her HP had taken a little bit of a hit from the Shieldmaiden, but it wasn't all that much so it shouldn't be too much of a hindrance. She suddenly sprinted forward toward the Kannagi who instinctively put a barrier on himself in fear, however this was a feint. She quickly pivoted and drew her sword, scoring a clean <Iaijutsu> hit on the Guardian. there was no barrier this time and the tank too a large hit to his health due to his much lower level. The Kannagi panicked "<Healing prayer>!" He shouted in desperation, healing his Guardian with the weak healing that his class had.
"<Cross Slash>!", the Guardian bellowed as he raised his sword. Matsuko smirked ever so slightly as her blade collided with his. Using <Kaeshi>, she blocked and countered the man's attack with perfect timing, dealing an immense amount of damage as her blade passed through his armor, truly a fool for not using any protective skills. The samurai turned as her momentum moved her behind the Guardian; she grabbed his shoulder and pushed the Carver through his spine. "Better luck next time." She whispered as his body dissipated into sparkling bubbles, his health had hit zero within seconds. The Great Gourmand turned her gaze toward the Kannagi; he had frozen in place like a deer in the headlights. After a moment he screamed, running back into the forest. A waste of time.
She sheathed her Carver once more before looking at the other two. She gave them a nod in acknowledgement before bringing yet another sandwich out of her magic bag. "That was unnecessary, Meren." She said in slight amusement as she bit into the hearty piece of food. The Samurai couldn't help but eye the Assassin. His motives were unclear to her, much like his reputation.
It had been awhile since Yuuko, or rather, Matsuko was brought into the world of Elder Tale. She remembered the widespread panic that ensued in the streets of Kyoto. She couldn't believe it at first, but she felt that it was another way to escape the expectations of her family; because of this she wasn't homesick at all. There was nothing she missed back at home. All that time spent studying.. Going to cram school.. Being isolated from the rest of her classmates because of baseless rumors.. All of it was now nothing. Perhaps this was all a dream and she'd soon wake up to the continuing nightmare that was her life? Only time will tell.
Many complained about the food when they arrived in Elder Tale. "It's bland! It tastes like nothing!" They shouted, bickering about how their drinks tasted like stale water and how their food tasted like air. Matsuko didn't really understand what everyone was talking about as everything she ate tasted like it should. She concluded that it must've had something to do with her Subclass, <Food Fighter>. Over the past fortnight, her guild 'The Silver Spoon' had been look for a way to make food palatable outside of making it a salty or sweet mush. It wasn't long before many people discovered that chefs were required to prepare food manually. However such things were not really her concern due to her passive ability.
Despite all this panic, they smiled. Those from The Silver Spoon smiled as they greeted her, as if nothing ever changed. Her guild was still itself, which gave her hope to carry on. Had they collapsed from the Apocalypse, she'd be lost. Interestingly, she hadn't even thought of contacting her brother at all.
Sandwich in hand, she walked out of the protective bounds of Kyoto through the large Torii gate that stood proudly at the city's edge. Matsuko merely wanted to go out hunting to practice her combat skills. Combat was different now that she as in the body of her character. Throughout her time spent in this place, she had discovered that using the original controls wasn't an option anymore. She had to do it through 'feeling'.
In the forest she spent hours slaying Goblins and boars, it was getting easier for her to get a handle of her skills.. Although she would've gotten used to them earlier had she not spent the last week stuffing her face full of newly discovered foods. "Havin' fun there, princess? How bout sharing some of your items with us?" A voice called out from tree line. She turned to the source of the voice, only to see two men emerge from behind the trees. A level 45 Guardian and a level 36 Kannagi; they've been tailing her for awhile now. Matsuko merely stared at their smug expressions blankly before taking a bite out of a riceball that she brought out of her bag, 'PKers?' She thought to herself as she sheathed her Carver, 'How.. dishonest'. She kept eye contact for a moment before turning away from them again, deciding whether or not she should just run back to town. These two were probably hoping that she hadn't figured out combat works; they must be getting a little greedy now after maybe killing one other higher level. She could've just walked back to town, but these PKers interrupted her meal. Nobody interrupts Matsuko's meal. Also she was kind of sick of being attacked, it's happened three times already.
"Don't ignore us, you bitch!" The Guardian shouted as he charged toward her, unsheathing his sword. In one movement she stuffed the rest of the riceball into her mouth, turning on the balls of her feet. She propelled herself towards the charging Guardian, performing her initiating attack, <Iaijutsu>. Drawing her sword in a swift motion, she simultaneously ducked under the Guardian's slash as her blade clashed with his armor. Or so she thought. The Kannagi had placed a barrier spell before Matsuko had struck, however the barrier shattered the moment her blade stuck it. The Samurai was a much higher level than these two hooligans, but it didn't mean this fight would be a cake walk. Looks like she won't be going back until the battle ends.
@Goldeagle1221 Hmm this is quite interesting to me! What's the age minimum for characters, and does my character actually have to be someone who is well suited for combat situations?
ie. Could I perhaps make a Farmer that got caught up in this storm of displeasure?
So sidenote. How does everyone feel about my cleric?
*gotta support those front lines*
I've always been a fan of characters that wield nothing but a shield, because shields are hella cool. I like her! Can she make something awesome for Matsuko~? BFFs, c'mon~
Name: Matsuda Yuuko Username: Matsuko "The Great Gourmand" Age: 19 Race: Human Class Level 87 Samurai Subclass Level 90 Food Fighter
Guild: <The Silver Spoon> The Silver Spoon guild is a craftsman guild that is mainly comprised of those with the subclass of <Chef>, <Fisherman>, and <Farmers>. Only a few <Food Fighters> are allowed into the guild after showing their knowledge in food within Elder Tale. Once part of the guild, players gain benefits such as free food.
Bio: Matsuda Yuuko was born into a fairly ordinary family. And by fairly ordinary, she was pressured from the beginning of middle-school to get rank one in all of her classes. As such, she had tutoring for the better part of her week and if she wasn't busy studying, she was asleep. Her lifestyle caused a rumor to spread around that she was cold and aloof. Yuuko wasn't about to try correct them as it would only lead to more misunderstandings, something she didn't have time to deal with. Thus her social life was non-existent. In the latter years of highschool, she began to binge eat due to stress which soon became a habit, leading to her huge appetite. By some miracle of genetics, her metabolism was able to keep up but her hunger for food merely increased. Many a time has Yuuko faked going to Cram school to cram a pile of hamburgers into her mouth. Disguised, of course.
After overhearing a conversation between her class' resident 'Otaku', she decided to look into this game they called "Elder Tale". The way they spoke about it intrigued her in a way she didn't expect. "Classes", "Freedom" and "Fantasy" were some buzz words she picked out of the conversation as she continued to quietly eavesdrop. Much to her surprise, her older brother was already playing the aforementioned game, thus she borrowed his laptop to try it out. It was unlike anything she had ever seen and it was much more fun than she expected. In this virtual world, she could express herself without the chains of expectation; She chose to play as a Samurai purely because of the aesthetic. She often found herself playing late into the night as she became very engrossed in the game, but she kept her interest hidden from everyone except her brother.
Unlike most of the other players, Yuuko was quite accepting, if not happy, that the Catastrophe happened. She was finally free of her family's binding chains of expectation and she was able to visit her guild whenever she felt like it without worrying about time.
Personality: Matsuko often exudes a cold 'aura', making her seem very unapproachable. Her lack of facial expression isn't very helpful in that regard. However the fastest way to her heart is through her stomach, thus making her quite naive sometimes should someone have the right amount of food... Which is almost never. Should someone come to understand her, she's quite honest and agreeable, if not somewhat cute. Her insatiable appetite can be quite off-putting at times, since she says things like "I'll devour you" during a fight.
Equipment:
'To carve the light of the moon is to hunger for gentle beams that radiate from it. The Oni of the mountains long sought out ways to harvest the moon's light. Sought out ways to consume it's blessings. Yet it was their greed that consumed them. Fighting over the cursed blade that brought their own downfall. It has become a blade that is excited by both the moonlight and the blood of Oni.'
The Moonlight Carver is a Katana that looks slightly similar to a Carving knife and is often distinguished by it's crescent moon imprint on the scabbard and the small crescent moon shaped trinket that hangs from the pommel. This weapon is a rare drop acquired from a x1 rank Raid as a reward for defeating the 'Oni of the Moon Mountain'. It is a Phantasmal grade weapon.
This Katana is seen as more of an aesthetic weapon by Hardcore Raid parties, however it does have a few bonus stats specifically for the <Food Fighter> subclass. Aside from it's extra fanciful particle effects, the Carver increases a <Food Fighter>'s Defense stats by 25% and gives them a passive Health Regeneration buff, healing 2% of their HP every 5 seconds when under the influence of the moon's light. These buffs are halved in the daylight.
'It is said that this armor came from a Famous Ronin, however he remained nameless for all of his years among the living. His wish to be forgotten was never granted. It is also said that his soul lives on within the armor he desired to rid himself of.'
A completion reward from a quest line: "The Nameless Legend". Grants a damage bonus to <Kaeshi>, increasing it's counter-attack damage by 20%. This is in reference to the Kendo technique, Men-Kaeshi-Dou.
'The tides run red with the fuel of war. Life's blood lapping the shores in the aftermath. Drenching the sands as it does on the cloth of the Keikogi.'
This Gi and Hakama set was a reward from the Cross-Region event, 'Pirates Vs Samurai', where Samurai fought against their cross-region counterparts. The Western counterpart of this set being the 'Captain's Garb of the Crimson Tides'. This set grants life-steal and increased health to it's wearer. Healing them for 2% of the damage they deal and increasing their max health by 5%.
'Crafted by ShrimpBoss'
An earring that hangs from Matsuko's right ear, crafted by The Silver Spoon guild leader. This earring is a symbol that represents the guild as well as giving her a buff to food effects. Increasing stats gained from food by 10%.
'Those who inflict pain upon others will feel the wrath of those inflicted upon.'
A pair of enchanted gauntlets that passively return damage back to the attacker. Returning 15% of damage done.
Spells/Skills list:
<Whirlwind Slash>
<Samurai Challenge>
<Seal Throat Stab>
<Vacuum Slash>
<Sheath Smash> Attack the enemy with your scabbard, increasing hate but deals low damage. Causes mini-stun.
<Kaeshi> A combination of block and counter. Mitigating damage and dealing damage in a single movement. Damage is based on Timing and Weapon attack power. This may be used on Tank-busters, however the damage received is only reduced by 25% instead of blocked. Cooldown is halved if timed perfectly.
<Dominance> 'May those with the strength of Will and Power tower over their foes.' Dominance weakens all taunted enemies, reducing their attack power by 10% for 30 seconds.
<Vengeance> 'It's all about give and take.' Vengeance returns damage dealt back to the attacker. 50% of damage received is returned for 20 seconds. This does not work on Tank-Busters.
<Moonlight Slash> 'Move as the moonlight does. Shining brightly and with grace.' Moonlight Slash is a three-hit combo that reduces enemy armor by 10% for 20 seconds. It is distinguishable by it's moonlit particle effects. Only usable with the Moonlight Carver.
<Insatiable> 'Maybe a little bit of a taste test?' 10% of damage dealt is converted into health for 30 seconds. Note: This skill is only usable by the <Food Fighter> subclass.
<Iaijutsu> 'The legendary killing stroke.' Iaijutsu for Samurai in Elder Tale is ironically more of an engaging attack rather than a killing move. From the sheath comes a deadly bladed attack that deals more damage if the target has not received any damage. Damage dealt is equal to 1.5x weapon damage while increasing enmity. This skill has a 0.5 second cast time if the Samurai's blade is already drawn and will deal 1x weapon damage.
<Unbreakable Will> "I will never bow." Unbreakable Will allows the user to survive a lethal attack. Their health will not reach 0 for the skill's duration of 10 seconds.
<Warrior's Tenacity> 'The tenacity of warriors is not to be underestimated.' Warrior's Tenacity increases the user's defenses by 20% for 20 seconds.
<Kiai> <Passive> Kiai passively increases the amount of Hate generated by skills and adds Hate generation to any skill that doesn't initially grant it.
<Creation Eater> Will be discovered.
Other: - Matsuko plays as a Vengeance-type Samurai, mostly using counters and blocks. - Matsuko is the same height as Yuuko, around 5'6". However Yuuko had long black hair, while Matsuko has blonde hair.
"The Great Gourmand" was a title that Matsuko earned from a special quest that she received after consuming 200 items of food within 2 minutes, which required a lot of spamming and animation cancelling. This quest required her to look (And consume) at different foods within the game before answering a quiz on the food's lore and ingredients. This quest was a 'one chance' only, meaning if the player failed to answer one part of the quiz, they would not be able to acquire the title and the quest would disappear.
Effects: This title allows Matsuko to eat anything and discern the ingredients or materials that make up the item. It also makes her immune to poison. She is able to consume food items during combat to gain regeneration effects and any additional buffs the item may provide.
Mount: Chubby Chocobo
Matsuko's mount is a fat, yellow chocobo that, interestingly, moves 1.5x faster than a regular horse. It can fly for a short duration at a time. This is purely due to it's gluttonous nature, much like it's owner. The rider must dangle a piece of food in front of it's face for the duration of the journey or else it won't move. This mount was rewarded as first prize in an Eating contest held by her guild, The Silver Spoon. The fat chocobo is an event exclusive item from a collaboration between Elder Tale and Final Fantasy.
If you actually care about FFXIV Stormblood spoilers, then just listen to the music and ignore the video. Theme:
Guild: N/A (She was actually kicked out of her guild.)
Bio: As a child, Akemi was quite an energetic, happy girl. She would often play 'house' with the other children and would often become 'head' of the house due to her naturally bossy nature. Her parents merely saw this as a Leader-like personality trait that would lead her to great things. Fortunately enough, this kind of behavior led her to become somewhat of an idol among her peers. During most of her school like she was always part of the Student Council body and would take charge of most events such as the Cultural Festivals and the like. Her haughty attitude slowly grew over time as she was allowed to keep constant control over others, which people dismissed as a kind of cute quirk. Her silver tongue often kept protesters at bay. A true leader. Or so you would think. Her methods had earned her the ire of her seniors, thus causing many conflicts between her and them. As a result she and her seniors were suspended for 'misconduct'. Problems solved like a true leader. Accuse them of sexual assault.
During her days of suspension, which stretched into her holidays, she discovered Elder Tale as she browsed through random forums. As she had done with many other things from her school life, she studied the game intensely out of boredom due to her ironic dislike of the outdoors. Akemi engaged in 'mild' roleplaying and often played as a more intensely haughty person. She found it interestingly fun that the people in this game actually went along with her character.
After the Catastrophe, something clicked in Akemi's mind. While she remembered her days in the real world, she was so shaken that her personality intensified to point where she became like her character. A self proclaimed Goddess.
Personality: With a name like "Akemi" with both kanji spelling out "Bright" and "Beautiful", you'd probably be able to expect what kind of person Lumi would be. And you'd be mostly correct in assuming that she's a very haughty person. To the point where describing her as a 'Himedere' or 'Kamidere' would actually be a simple way to describe her outer facade. She likes and tries to stand out from the crowd and is always telling people what to do as a true Goddess should, often coming off as extremely annoying to most. Despite her seemingly brash and rash nature, she's quite knowledgeable of the Elder Tale universe. Understanding that teamwork is important, but she won't hesitate to tell you that 'it was all her'. Many liken her personality to one of a Chuuni sufferer.
Equipment:

This is a phantasmal-grade weapon that was a reward for slaying the raid boss of the "Last Chamber of Light" dungeon. This staff seems simple in design, a white wooden haft with a clear glass crystal on the end of it, the wood seemingly wrapping around the bottom of it. This crystal refracts any light that penetrates it, however instead of a rainbow-like effect, the light is softly radiated like a miniature sun, except not as bright.
"To become the greatest of Mages, one must know of style. A feather says nothing without the cap of the genteel." 'It is said that the Genteel Mage was one of extreme vanity. So much so his vanity has influenced the threads of his own clothing.'

This is a trump card that cannot be used often.
Other: -Lumi uses a combination of <Sprinkler> and <Evil Eye> builds. -Lumi is a short form of the English word "Luminous" (I wonder why she'd use the word..) -Her tattoo is reminiscent of a rippling circle (A circle within a circle) which is located on her right temple, connecting to her hairline via a slightly disjointed line.
A reward from the arduous quest-line, "He Who is Truly Noble." This was a limited time Raid for the Noble subclass. While the raid itself isn't difficult, it was a mixture of 'Noble Conduct' and combat. Thus, fighting was to be done is a noble manner. How that was interpreted was seemingly subjective and the details behind the system weren't truly discovered.
Going back through the CS posted so far, it looks to me like the only person with a Western real life name are Ryteb's and Bushman's characters and Bushman has an explanation of having moved to Japan from France.
I'm not about to go naming names now. I just thought it'd be something to think about. Those that transfer server are few and far between, especially in MMOs as Clock said. I'd be okay with it if their bio mentioned anything about why they're in the Yamato server, but thus far it hasn't been clearly shown.
Of course, I have no authority to enforce such a thing.
Just thought I'd say something about it... This is based in the Kyoto region on the Yamato server (which is in Japan btw) I'm not sure why people have characters with very Western names as their irl names without much explanation.
