When the Shinigami disappeared, a great darkness had overcome the mortal realm. Unexplainable deaths had appeared in small numbers only to continually grow and ravage the world. Cities were being obliterated and blood was painting the streets all while regular humans were trying in vain to figure out the cause of this calamity. Many countries had fallen and it had looked like that it was the end of the world, until a summit was called upon by NATO; a summit that would change the world.
The prime minister of Germany, Christoph Heinz had called upon the world's remaining leaders and exposed them to the world that they could never believe; a world of spirits and humans wielding supernatural powers. He explained that what was destroying humanity wasn't an act of god, but of monsters called Hollows. When the Shinigami had disappeared, the Hollow population had increased immensely and with nothing to stop them they had went on this mass genocide on humanity. Prime minister Heinz himself was a Quincy and used his powers to urge the other world leaders to follow his plan: to create an organization of spiritually aware humans from all over the world to fight off the Hollow hoard.
The Buereau of Spiritual Phenomenon, or simply called The Buereau, was formed and recruited as many members as they could from all over the world and had calmed the threat. Thirty years later, you are a new recruit that had joined The Buereau and offered your body for the organizations latest project, Project Seraphim. Seraphim is the product of an incredibly discovery; the corpse of a Shinigami. Why the body was there and how it got there is a question to be answered for another day, it was soon clear that it was a key component of destroying the Hollows.
Project Seraphim's goal is to turn humans into artificial shinigami, where they will have to learn how to control their new found powers while taking on missons. There is one looming question that your squad will be investigating; what happened to the Shinigami?
