"Wishing for others to believe in me when I can't even do so myself... silly, isn't it?"Name: Reina Mori
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Height: 168 cm
Weight: 55 kg
[APPEARANCE]Reina is fairly average-sized for a girl her age, with rounder facial features and lighter curves that would lead to her being called 'cute' rather than 'beautiful.' Her fashion sense is nearly non-existent—she sticks to comfy clothing, which usually means some sort of sweater or long-sleeved t-shirt paired with plain-colored pants and boat shoes, changing to more appropriate clothing for physical activities.
She keeps her hair short for convenience; as with her clothing, she's not keen on spending time on things that don't contribute to her growth as a hero. Maintaining long hair is just an unnecessary hassle. Her only accessory is a purple elastic hairband, though it's far more often found around her right wrist than actually in her hair.
[COSTUME]The girl has taken on neither a real hero name nor a real costume—they are not things she believes she deserves or has earned. For now, when ‘heroing,’ she goes by her family name, Mori, and covers her mouth and nose with a black mask. Nearly all of her regular clothing has a hood, so she’ll throw that up as well when available.
[PERSONALITY]Reina is reserved due to a lack of self-confidence and deep-seated general feeling of inferiority brought on mostly in recent years. Her quirk has naturally led to her being left alone most of her life due to the trouble it tends to cause, and she's become quick to snap lightly at those who suggest anything she might not like. When she speaks, she tends to be blunt and to the point, mostly in an effort to not take up too much of others time.
This mildly abrasive personality is more of a defense mechanism than anything, and it's not difficult to see her more 'true' nature beneath it after spending a bit of time around her. The girl finds genuine interest in other people, and is extremely keen on seeing the positive things in others. While she hasn't made many real friends in her life, it's not for lack of want. She has an overwhelmingly strong sense of justice, naturally wanting to help people for as long as she can remember, and will absolutely go out of her way to do so however she can. She's the first to admit she's not totally selfless, though, and she often finds herself feeling guilty over the fact that she craves recognition for anything she does—these feelings don't help her surface-level abrasiveness and leads to her often pushing people away in attempts to convince herself she doesn't need that recognition, making it hard to become close to her.
Contrary to her quiet persona, Reina also has a usually well-concealed fire within her. When something catches her interest and she acts like she has something to prove to the world, for better or for worse, it takes a lot to get her to focus elsewhere. This trait is one of the reasons she can sometimes act like a bit of an endearing dork, moreso around people she's grown comfortable with due to her dropping her guard without realizing.
Parts of Reina’s personality do indeed contradict each other, at least somewhat. A girl with no self-confidence, but who wants so desperately to believe in herself. A girl who wants nothing more than to make close friends, but who can’t bring herself to impose on others with the constant annoyance of her quirk. A girl who can hardly see any value in herself, but who will never give up at anything she tries or is asked to do—if not for her own sake, then for the sake of those around her.
There’s a fantastic hero buried somewhere within her, but to uncover it proper Reina will certainly need the support of others.
[BACKGROUND]Reina is an only child from a very ordinary family—something strange in such a world. With a quirkless mother and a father with only the ability to weakly adjust the gravitational field of a single object at a time, it took no one by surprise when it seemed that Reina was the owner of a weak quirk that caused her personal gravity to be strong enough to annoy her and those around her, but not strong enough to do anything useful beyond getting food off the top shelf without having to grab a chair.
As Reina went through her formative years, like most children her age, she took an interest in the profession of heroes. Her natural immense drive was triggered, and all she began to want was to become a great hero. For several years, she aimed to be accepted into a top hero school, putting everything she had into preparing herself for that goal.
It wasn't enough. Unable to make progress with her quirk without any guidance, she was rejected by schools with good reputations one-by-one. Those few who had been supporting her made excuses for her—'yours was a tough, competitive year' and the like. It didn't change the fact that she wasn't good enough.
Having always been a quiet girl, not helped by the constant ostracism she was subjected to due to her Quirk, she began to close up even more. Deciding she simply shouldn't be a hero, she chose to listen to her parent's advice to avoid any of the smaller, no-name hero academies and instead go to a more prestigious traditional school.
'There's no shame in it, the world needs lawyers and business owners as much as it needs heroes,' her parents had said.
But there was shame in it. Reina had tried—she'd done everything she could, given absolutely everything she had, and it hadn’t been enough.
The next couple years went by, various obsessions that grabbed her attention coming and going, but through it all only her interest in heroes stayed true. She kept up to date on the scene, and despite hating how it hurt to know she couldn't become one, she couldn't stop herself. It was the one obsession that had never faded from the day it had taken her, and she could never shake it if she tried. Never admitting it to herself, deep down she knew she harbored the faintest hope and longing that she might get a second chance.
Only a month ago, Reina made a sudden breakthrough with her quirk, revealing its potential to be far greater than previously thought. A harmless late-night trip to a convenience store turned into a terrifying experience when a gun-toting, shark-toothed villain made an appearance, on the run from heroes. Reina was grabbed to be used as a hostage, but before anything else could happen, in her panic, she had used her quirk to push away the villain through the glass door he had come from. The dazed man was quickly apprehended and the heroes on scene had apparently taken note of Reina, one even coming up to speak with her while she was being tended to and calmed down by a paramedic.
Only a few weeks later, Reina was invited to attend Komei academy for the new school year. Of course, the girl was completely overjoyed by the offer and took it, spending all the time she had leading up to the school year experimenting more with her quirk, the desire to become a hero burning stronger within her than it had in a long time, now that she was given that second chance.
But there was a measure of bitter resentment that she came to feel as well with the situation. She had only been accepted into such a good hero academy because her quirk had been suddenly discovered to not be as weak as it had appeared to have been before. She hadn’t earned her way into the school.
Worrying that she’d be ousted as the undeserving student she believes herself to be, she's doubled her efforts to improve her potential as a hero. The plan is to not get kicked out of Komei for being worthless, at least until she can work herself to the bone to retroactively earn her spot at the academy—and hopefully eventually grow strong enough to be of use to the population of Japan by becoming the great hero she’s always wished to be.
[QUIRK]Reina's personal gravitational field is far stronger than normal, and she has some control over it. In the quirk's default state, when Reina isn't making any effort to consciously manipulate it, its pull can be felt at least weakly up to several meters away. Standing directly next to her in this default would feel like a constant firm push towards her.
She often lets the people near her know that her quirk is why they feel the constant pull towards her—being affected by it while having no clue why it’s happening can be a strange and aggravating experience, to say the least. Reina’s come to accept that once people know, they usually keep their distance from her. It still kind of hurts her, but it’s a reaction she’s grown used to. Due to spending so much time every day focusing on 'zeroing' out the pull by weakening it to avoid annoying others, the length of time she can use her quirk is impressive.
There are also seven black-colored orbs lazily orbiting around her at all times, each only about an inch in diameter. They seem to only be there to get in the way and draw even more unwanted attention to the girl, and are obviously related to her Quirk.
The remaining information on her Quirk will be withheld to be revealed IC~
[TALENTS]Productive obsessions: When something grabs her interest, Reina will focus on it and learn everything about it until she reaches a competent understanding and she gets bored of it. Anything goes—from fighting games, to chess, to volleyball, to math—it just has to be something she can impress people with.
Multitasker: Unable to dedicate all of her time to the single thing that has her attention at a given moment (lest the rest of her life falls apart), Reina has become adept at focusing on multiple things at once. Important homework due but she's completely absorbed in teaching herself animation? Doing both at the same time is the correct option.
Athletic: She's made a habit of working out from the time she became interested in becoming a hero, and it's stuck despite her initial failure to join a good academy. Along with the occasional obsession with specific sports, Reina is deceptively athletic for her small frame.
