Well, perhaps we could have kept it going, but, given the GM was owner/captain of "our" ship, it meant one third of the RP ceased to exist. Perhaps we could have salvaged something, but it seemed better just to move on. Sometimes, that's just the way to go. But point taken.
Innue said Too often I see people jump in and rush their 'original concept' and that is what kills it.

I have seen this. Played in an RP in which I and another player really jelled, putting in the time and energy to develop our characters and our personal interactions before the "main" action. However, the "GM" appeared to get very impatient with the "delay"... he stopped posting, just as our characters were returning from their shopping trip. Just before all our characters would finally be together. In his own posts (few as they were), he seemed quite eager to simply get going with what he wanted, to push things along. Rather than develop any character interactions. Rather than building a good story. Of course, without his input, without even an OOC response to our "Hey, where are you?"... well, Sudden Death.

So, it's not always other players ruining the RP. Sometimes, it's the very person who started the RP who kills it, even when the other players are kicking out good (great) material. And they aren't.
I am the Black Wizards said But I don't know if you could pull something like that off in a forum.

As I mentioned in my previous post, we did pull it off. Quite spectacularly. And I've RPed in plenty of "tavern" threads elsewhere, so the "format" is quite... playable.
Descriptions in writing and roleplaying, from my perspective, can be used not only to set the scene, but to determine the tone of the work. Are you trying to use the "background" as a commentary... in other words, are the dark skies, pouring rain, cold, rocks and mud all to set a somber mood, your character caught in this storm depressed and sad, perhaps simply "desperate" to get somewhere warm and dry? Or are you setting a contrast? Is your character cheerfully splashing in the puddles, ignoring the cold and mud?

Well, this tends to be the way I look at it. No, I'm not always concerned with the point, because sometimes a "cigar" is just a cigar. But there are times when "Realism" in describing a setting can indeed fit into the intended tone, or the "theme" of your story. Heh... in roleplaying, however, quite frequently you have to deal with the pre-made setting, so, you have the choice to ignore "meaning" or to take what's presented and, through your character descriptions and interactions, turning that meaningless background into something with significance to your desired theme.

Want to use a "serious" description seriously? Have at it. Want to take that and flip the tone? Take that serious description and find the contrast or humor in it... make your character dance with the thunder and lightning. Or simply drop a "banana peel" on the ground. And have your character slip on it. So to speak. Though to be truly honest, personally, I don't stress it. I simply write in a way that pleases me, be that Realism or Surrealism or... who knows?

Everything doesn't always need to make a point, because "pointlessness" could very well be your point, right? Variety is the "spice of life." And all that.
Oops... me bad! Thanks. {feels like dunce...}
Hmmm... started a thread not all that long ago that unfortunately ground to a halt, but when I went back to see if I could revive it... well, it's missing. Gone. Non Persona Grata. I know I put it in the Lounge. but it's not there. It was titled "Favorite RP Quotes" - any idea what happened to it?

Thanks...
Ubermensch said But this is my first venture outside of me pigeonholing and I thought I could use what I know due to my Iranian heritage.

Well, the saying is: "Write what you know."

So, sounds to me like you're just taking that phrase to heart.
Hoooo boy!

Given how many characters I have, most of them never used in RP, well, I could write novels. As to those characters I have played? For my Nassquill character Onin Bey, I just "realized" that he plays a flute in his quiet moments. I've already known for some time that my Nism character Deen was a "wild child" in his youth, always getting into trouble. His mate, Thoee... well, she's very fond of music and dance, but I've never brought out that side of her in RP. Yet.

I could go on, but I'm running out of time on this library computer, so I'll have to... heh... continue later. Gotta have time to think of more, as well. Later, then...
All you have to do is check my sig...

Math sucks, I hate it, and I'm most definitely going to bomb this test tomorrow because I don't know the material and I'm learning more about what we were meant to be taught through YouTube videos because my teacher is nice but very confusing sometimes and there are literally too many other kids asking questions for her to be able to help any one student for more than a few brief sentences.

Wow... very impressive run-on sentence. But yes, math sucks. Which makes sense, since we come here to write, not do math. Logical, when you think about it, right?

Edit: Oh, glad to hear the test went well. Congrats...
