It wasn’t rudeness, but a desperate hunger that made her a little anti-social. She smiled as the brunette was introduced, but quickly turned back to Dumbledore and urged him to get on with his speech. But the man delayed, and she swore under her breath which gained her a shove in the ribs from Lily, to which she scowled. In the delay of Dumbledore, someone quickly piped up and asked the new girl if the rumours of France were true. Astrid turned her head, and a little sympathy was shown in her eyes. Her father was an Auror; she knew all of what had happened over in France, her own dad having headed over there to help defeat the faction that had formed. But when she saw the French girl come uncomfortable and almost a little defeatist, she had to raise a brow.
There was no need to take shame in the actions of others, but then again, Astrid was a lot thicker skinned than most. She had been raised in a male dominated environment, and generally got on better with males then she did females, so she wasn’t so easily affected as some. Having grown up with Erik it was best not to show any emotion, he would have threatened to beat every kid in the school up if she’d gotten upset at something. Lily had always scorned her for not being a little more empathetic towards offers, and so for once she held back her natural reply, and instead leaned across towards the fifth year students. “You know” She said to him. “A lad with your IQ really should have a low voice too” she told him with a wicked smile, her words quickly followed by laughter. Astrid straightened up and looked to Veronica, offered a friendlier smile with a wink, before turning back to Dumbledore.
But as she turned she caught Sirius’s eye and once more offered a wry expression. “Cool your loins, Black. The girls not been here five minutes” Astrid said to him. Although, she found herself a little off inside. Astrid had seen Sirius move from girl to girl, he’d left broken hearts all over this school. He had tried it on with her, many a time, but she did not want to be just another conquest. But she would have been a liar if she said she did not fancy him. He was the one reason why she hadn’t been able to maintain a steady relationship whilst at school, because no matter how good they were to her, they just weren’t Sirius.
She sighed and listened to Dumbledore announce that Quidditch this year was cancelled, which was received with outrage from the student body, but that instead it was to be replaced with the Triwizard tournament. Astrid’s eyes rounded before she cheered with the rest, excited about the break from the mundane. “I heard some of those Durmstrang lads are hot!” Astrid said to Flora, who giggled and nodded. As she laughed and settled down, once more she caught the gaze of Sirius, before she looked to the food that appeared, her mind consumed with thoughts of one of her closest male friends.
