Basic InformationName: Ivan Kirkpatrick
Nickname/Alias/Etc: Midas, Golden Boy
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Height: 5'9"
Weight:178 lbs
Type: New/Full Time Student
AppearanceHair Color: Blonde
Eye Color: Green
Ethnicity: Irish/German
Physical Appearance:Ivan is a boy of average height and weight, trying to maintain a perfect average to the best of his ability; he has some muscle, but not much of it. His dusty blonde hair doesn't gleam as elegantly as he would like it to, nor do his green eyes shine with the brightness that some others are blessed with.
His posture is always straight and rarely will he ever be seen slouching. He's usually a very tense fellow, finding it hard to loosen up a bit more; especially around people he doesn't know.
His jaw and cheeks are, overall, rather balanced in appearance. Not too round nor thin, but more of in perfect balance. His mouth has a slight overbite, but Ivan doesn't feel as if he's particularly "ugly" at the end of the day. If there was one thing he could change about his looks it would be his pointed nose. It just sort of seems to stick out with its lengthy size and awkward narrowness. He despises it but strongly disagrees with the idea of plastic surgery.
One look at Ivan's eyes, should you get the chance, tells the story of a boy who isn't particularly confident in himself - eyes darting around and trying to avoid direct contact, looking at the ground when walking by people, etc.
Attire:Being the kind of person who has had most of his needs and preferences decided by his parents, his wardrobe is practically picked out for him already. His parents spared no expense when he was sent to the academy. Refusing to give him any of his old clothes with designs he preferred, he instead has very formal and rigid clothing for the most part. Dress shirts, dress pants, jeans, vests - the only thing he was really allowed to decide was footwear, of which he typically wears running shoes to at least make him feel a bit more comfortable. Still, he takes what he gets, deciding that mom's shopping spree would be better than no clothing at all.
PersonalityInnate & Outward Personality: Growing up, Ivan has always been a bit spoiled. With his parents having a bigger role in many of his decisions than his own preferences, he had very little room to enjoy a feeling of freedom - that is, until one Christmas when he received his first gaming console as a present.
His experiences playing video games on his spare time made him feel like he had just a little bit more freedom. The freedom to at least decide the outcomes of important plot points in the games he played, made him feel like he had some control in the world of fiction.
With this in mind, he began to grow up disliking the outside world. Not loathing, as he would refuse to ever outright hate someone without having met them. More like, he would envy every guy, girl, or some combination in between of people for their seemingly limitless lives. They could make choices that he was unable to make. He felt weighed down compared to the average person.
There was a lot of negative reinforcement in Ivan's life, as well. Whenever he made a mistake, his father would make sure to correct him and go into long rants about the right way to do it. It crumbled the boy's confidence each time it happened.
All of this has come together to create a more shy, antisocial person in the modern day world. Someone who wants to express themselves and let their emotions flare, but can't seem to get a grasp on that essential thing called confidence. He especially envies people who can fully control their powers for the way they can fearlessly carry out justice, and aspires to be known as an outstanding hero and protector some day, whether he can use powers or not.
Despite this he outwardly tries to appear a happy and confident person. He heard that that sort of thing attracts the positive affection of people, so he's been striving to hide his pessimistic self when interacting with others.
Hobbies/Interests:His main hobbies include video games, which Ivan particularly adores RPG and fighting games for as he thoroughly enjoys taking up the role of a powerful warrior or a wise magician. As a branch off of this, Ivan eventually got into trading card games and even entered competitive tournaments for some. Strategy games have become something of a love for Ivan over time.
Skills/Talents:Ivan is something of a jack of all trades, master of none. He performs average in all of his classes and is in a perfect middle ground when it comes to sports and physical activity. However, there is nothing that he is dreadful at, to his knowledge. He has a knack for making unusual stat builds in RPGs or making unorthodox deck strategies in card games, but whether that trash-turned-gold way of thinking could translate to real life at any point is up to him...
Prized Possession:An ultra rare card for a one-time-only competitive tournament at one of his card game competitions; known as the Great Demon Lord, it is highly sought after by collectors and players alike and has had very few copies printed since its creation. He always keeps it in a hard plastic card sleeve in his pants' pocket for good luck. He won the card using the deck of his old friend, Nicholas.
Quote(s):"Some days I swear I'm the most unlucky guy around. It's like I'm the King Midas of socializing..."
History/Bio:Ivan Kirkpatrick was born to an upper class family in the suburbs of Pennsylvania. His parents both had insecurities surrounding how successful their son would be in the future, and started his education earlier than most would. His first few years being homeschooled, he was officially brought to an elementary school by third grade. At that point, Ivan was trained like a dog and quickly became known as the teacher's pet among his classmates. Unsure of how to interact properly with people his own age, he didn't know how to respond and became the target of ruthless bullying as the years rolled on.
He endured it all throughout elementary school, hoping things would get better in middle school. By this point he was fully aware of what things like social cues and body language meant, but was too shy and introverted to socialize with the other kids. Instead of being the teacher's pet he just became known as a very quiet person. Truthfully he didn't encounter much bullying by this point, but was very much alone at his new middle school after having made a handful of friends in elementary.
Eventually, someone came up to him. A boy by the name of Nicholas. He introduced himself confidently to Ivan, and wondered why he was typically away from everyone else almost on purpose. Ivan wasn't sure if it was because Nicholas was one of the few people who seemed to carry genuine interest or if it was something else, but he felt it important to continue a conversation with the boy.
As they chatted more they developed what one could label as "acquaintances". They talked during the breaks at school and eventually went to each other's houses to play video games and watch movies. They even played the same card game.
The years rolled by, and what started as casual chit-chat and similar interests became a relationship of best friends; and when it came to video games or card games, serious rivals. It became common for them to even bicker and have disagreements only to make up later that same day. It was a relationship that was easily repaired no matter what came their way, and as they prepared to graduate middle school, one day something very unexpected happened.
After school one day, the two were on the way to Nicholas' place. It was a bright day, like any other. A few blocks before they would arrive, a black car pulled up on the curb next to them and four men quickly hopped out to confront the two boys.
They introduced themselves as NEST, and began to accuse Nicholas of crimes of power abuse and dealings with the black market. They identified him as the nickname "Berith", who they had been tracking down for years now. Supposedly whoever Berith was, had the power to turn whatever they touched into gold. This Berith was turning otherwise worthless objects into gold to turn a profit and selling them off to underground businesses.
Nicholas initially denied this, until they said that they would take both Nicholas and Ivan in for questioning. This caused Nicholas to lose control of his emotions, admitting to being Berith. Not by choice, but rather that his mother was forcing him to do it to get enough money to both bail his father out of jail and get them a newer, better house elsewhere. He went on to say that Ivan had nothing to do with it.
The men looked to one another and nodded in agreement. The one closest to the boys pulled out a collar of sorts, moving slowly towards Nicholas.
The boy panicked, and did something to confirm for certain that he was Berith: he turned a blade of grass into gold, throwing it at the NEST agent with the collar.
Though the man did his best to dodge, the sudden shock of the situation caught him off guard and hit him in the leg. This was when they were forced to go on the offensive, rushing Nicholas all at once with tranquilizer darts. One or two was enough, and as the boy grew weak with exhaustion he was handcuffed and had the collar put around his neck. The last words he uttered before going unconscious were to Ivan.
"You're involved in this now, too. Don't let them get you."
With that, they hauled the boy into the car. They told Ivan not to speak of what he saw to anyone, as Berith's case was to be concealed as much as possible; if word got out that even a middle schooler could do such illegal activities, they worried that it would damage Meta-Humans and their overall reputation.
After that, life went on for a time.
However, it wasn't the end. More news came years later, in the modern day. He received a strange phone call from the individuals that called themselves NEST, saying that he had received not an invitation, but an order to join Academy 218 and enroll among the Meta-Humans there. They went on to say that, after going over the facts of the Berith case once more during a review period, that there was a very strong possibility that Ivan had inherited powers from Nicholas if the time they had spent together was accurate. While Ivan had not yet shown any powers of his own, they would send him in for a few months regardless to see how he would react to other Meta-Humans and if being around more like Nicholas would trigger the power awakening that they're suspecting Ivan's body is waiting to undergo.
And so, a week later Ivan was being sent off to Academy 218 with consent from his parents, reluctant as they were to let him go. He'll be arriving at the academy very shortly now, nervous of what he might encounter there. Would they be kind like Nicholas, or hiding a more dark side the way Nicholas was known to NEST as "Berith"? Only time would tell for him.

AbilitiesPower Class:Elemental
Power: Gold Touch/Gold Body
Ivan's power is the ability to turn anything he touches into mixed gold, exactly the same way that his old friend could. However, not just limited to that he can mold and form shapes with the gold he creates so long as he's touching it. For example, he could take a rock and turn it into a dagger. From there, he could extend it into a sword if he so pleased - albeit a very thin sword, but you get the idea. As a more versatile idea, he could turn the ground around him into gold and then make it rise up like a pillar of sorts. Really, it's limited by his creativity and his hand reach. He can also turn liquids into solid gold as well. However, for any of this to work he must touch the object with his hands and only his hands unless he is covering himself in gold.
Speaking of, one of his more favored ways of using this power is to cover his own body in a golden shell or armor of sorts. The gold produced around his body is of significantly stronger quality than normal gold, working as armor to protect his otherwise frail and human body from severe damage. However, full gold plating requires great strain to maintain for him as an amateur, so he typically limits it to a limb or two. Favorably his arms for strong punches. This self-transformation is very fast, allowing for things such as a last-minute armored defense against an attack to a specific area possible.
However, at the beginning of the roleplay and until later on Ivan will not have powers. Yes, he starts powerless.
Future Powers: In the future, Ivan will be able to turn objects into gold much faster, at an instant speed for smaller objects and a severely decreased time for large objects. Eventually, Ivan's full gold plating will also require not nearly as much strain to maintain. Though to attain even a single one of these upgrades Ivan will require serious training and devotion to his power.
Limits:He can only turn into gold what he can touch, and cannot turn it instantaneously; the larger the object, the longer it will take to transform. Also, he can't turn living things into gold. It also doesn't make him more powerful physically at all; he can't lift more just because he has gold plating on him, nor can he run faster or strike harder aside from the fact that his attacks are enhanced by gold plating. He's essentially just a normal human with the advantage of metal.
Weaknesses/Drawbacks:Anyone or anything that can maintain range from Ivan is a nuisance. As Ivan requires close range to make the best usage of his power, being outside of that range makes him as helpless as any regular human being. In addition, fire would not do well for Ivan when he's covered in his plate armor. As if fire on its own was bad, being heated while in armor would essentially turn the armor into an oven burning Ivan from the inside out.
Fast opponents may also prove troublesome, as Ivan's power relies on being able to actually hit his opponent. With a great lack of ranged attacks, he would be constantly wasting stamina chasing someone who can maneuver around him easily.
Another obvious weakness is electricity. Walking around in metal is just asking for the attention of all the lightning and electric shocks one could possibly ask for. Ivan is essentially a walking conductor when using his power.
As metal does indeed possess weight, covering himself in gold plating will weigh Ivan down as well, decreasing his speed in exchange for the defensive boost he gains.

Sample Post:"Alright! I give up! I'm Berith, okay?! Me! He has nothing to do with this!"
"Nicholas? What are you saying? Stop lying to them and say you're not! Hurry up before they take you away!"
But the boy called Nicholas did nothing of the sort. Wild panic was in his eyes when he saw the stern men approach him with concerned eyes. Troubled eyes. In his mind, at that moment, evil eyes.
"B-But I didn't mean to do it, honestly! My mom put me up to it. I didn't want to. She just kept forcing me... she wanted dad back. And a new house. And jewelry that we couldn't afford. So I... for her..."
The boy was dumbstruck. Lost in his own words. Yet, the NEST agents continued approaching the boy with the collar. All Ivan could do was watch in awe.
"Stop! Please, stop!"
Nicholas dashed to the other end of the sidewalk and grabbed a handful of grass. One moment he was holding green, and the next moment...
"Gold?!" Ivan blurted out loud.
Nicholas didn't hesitate for a moment, his primal fear kicking in, and threw the solidified, golden grass at the man holding the collar. Most of it missed its aim, but a few definitely struck him in the leg. The man shouted out in pain before continuing more adamantly this time.
Two more agents procured guns loaded with tranquilizers. First one hit Nicholas on the neck, and the second one on the arm. It was enough to make him dizzy and fall down. The NEST agents hastily fastened the strange collar around the boy and then handcuffed him. As they stood him up, right before Nicholas fell unconscious, he looked Ivan straight in the eyes and spoke.
"You're involved in this now, too. Don't let them get you."
At that moment, Ivan woke up with fast breath and a rushing heartbeat.
"A dream. Right. Of course. That was a long time ago."
He sighed with relief and nestled back into his seat. Looking around, he remembered where he was again. It was the boat that would take him to Academy 218's island. It wasn't exactly the most luxurious cruise in the world, and the food was just barely average in Ivan's opinion, so he didn't know what to think.
"It would help to know exactly who I'll be around... I hope they didn't make the wrong decision with me." he muttered.
Looking left and right around the room, he saw a few others. It wasn't a very large room, being more of a waiting room than anything. Some read newspapers, others asleep as he was, but unsurprisingly many of these people were fiddling around on their phones.
"Wish I brought some of my games with me. But I guess it's better this way."
Getting out of his chair, he moved to the window that soon had the island in view.
Maybe there I'll find answers. The truth about me, and maybe an opportunity to decide my own future. Who knows what it holds? Agh, crap, anxiety's kicking in...
