Kinshiro's real magic is a magic long forgotten by the general public and was illegal even before the Magic Council became corrupt. Dusk Possession was originally nothing more than a practice performed by priests to seal away powerful demons and monsters to prevent them from wreaking havoc on the world. When one priest became corrupted and tempted to the potential power of these beasts, he performed a ritual to bond with one of the demons sealed in one of the objects. This started a chain reaction of priests within their temple which sacrificed their holy oaths to gain power.
The priests were hunted down and killed throughout the years, the objects destroyed one by one. However, one was preserved and carried down throughout generations by the Kuragya family. A
pendant which came to be known as the Dusk Pendant for its dark and yet entrancing appearance. Ignorant of what this pendant truly had to offer, it was given as jewelry to wear among the family as the generations passed. Sealed by a powerful demon, Kinshiro was only the second to discover its power.
Dusk Possession as defined by the priests of old was a magic which channeled the powers and abilities of the sealed demon through the user. As such, each object would possess different powers and functions.
The demon residing within the Dusk Pendant holds the ability of desire. It could accomplish whatever it desired through its magic. As its one sole desire was destruction, this magic is designed purely for the purpose of death and despair. This ability passes on to the user when bonded. Kinshiro is able to morph the Dusk Pendant into its default fighting form according to his will. A
demonic-looking claw with an eye in the middle. This claw has the ability to grow the bladed fingertips and fire them off, to be replaced with new ones moments later. If Kinshiro closes his eyes and focuses his magic, he can see the world through the claw's eye even when blinded himself. The claw can fire off blasts and rays of dark energy which are conjured through concentration.
The "desire" part comes in with the fact that the claw can alter its form to suit the user's wishes. As Kinshiro swore to only use this magic to help others, his alterations are restricted only to either combat forms or the harp he plays to soothe the minds of those grieving and poor souls that wander the streets.
He has three main combat forms, the Dusk Claw of which was already described.
He can also alter his claw into a fully black katana, the "Shadow Sword", which increases his speed above the normal range and constantly radiates dark energy. He can fire this energy off as waves or discs of energy, or use it to extend the range of his blade by up to two feet longer. As Kinshiro excels in swordsmanship, he benefits greatly from this form inspired by an old mentor and rival of his.
The claw can be altered just as well into a fully black scythe. Kinshiro's raw physical strength is increased to allow him to wield the weapon with more ease. It can be thrown like a boomerang and will always return to Kinshiro's hand. It is constantly surrounded by dark energy just like the Shadow Sword, and fires off waves of magical energy stronger than that of the sword's attacks.
He has a secret form which he hates to reveal, and will never use it until he encounters a foe he hates with all his being, or must beat with the utmost efficiency. By sacrificing half of his mind to the demon inside his pendant and the remainder of his magical energy while bleeding deeply, he'll enter a mode he names "Synchronization". His speed is increased to a blinding pace and his attack and magic power are substantially increased. He'll fight mercilessly and without remorse as per the demon's influence. He can only use the claw in this form, however, and the demon will slowly drain his blood; starting with the blood around Kinshiro's clothes or coming out of open wounds, and gradually moving to blood which is still inside his body. If Kinshiro fights against it, he can exit the state. However, he will immediately become paralyzed and unable to move for hours afterwards from the exertion on his body. If enough blood and magic power is drained from Kinshiro, he'll go unconscious and exit Synchronization.
Dusk Possession is weak to magic considered holy, as it repels the demon inside. It reminds it of the pain it went through being sealed, and the pain is double on Kinshiro. This includes anything from holy light to holy water, or even places considered holy such as a church; as a result, the user cannot enter a church or any holy grounds with the magic lest they'll feel a constant burning pain. Thus Kinshiro must enter any such area with only the Dusk Pendant.
Constant use of the magic will also overwhelm the user mentally regardless of how strong their will is. Even if Kinshiro refrains from using Synchronization, the demon will slowly drive him insane day after day. Every usage brings him closer to true evil and hopelessness.
The magic is also not very team-friendly. Its attacks focus on unbridled destruction and risk hurting friend and foe alike, or even Kinshiro himself in some cases.
