Elly was annoyed with the raw, vast stupidity going on in front of her. Once the opening ceremony was finished, students filed out of the auditorium and began scattering like ants after you light their food on fire. A few fools started to duel each other right outside, risking endless intrusions, but my god, the sheer quantity of losers skittishly wandering off to hide in the bowels of the school was embarrassing. Don't they know anything about how events like this work?

As a new student, Elly has no choice but to put faith in the competence of the staff. Once that's assumed, the possibility of waiting things out to be the last standing doesn't make any sense. After all, why reward cowardice?

Clearly, the whole thing is being tracked by everyone's duel disk, meaning that the more losers snuffed out, the better placement everyone is given!

...Unfortunately, now wasn't exactly a good time to go sniping. Few duels had any progress made, and the ones that did probably already had so many intruders that they could all turn on any further intruders and end them in a heartbeat.

No, the best idea is to stalk one of these spineless wimps and crush them. It's funny, really, how easy it was for her to put this plan into effect, following this small, docile loser to a secluded spot on the edge of school where they can't be intruded upon. She sees him take a sigh of relief, thinking he made it. Oh, how wrong he is.

She grabs him by the shoulder and spins him around. "Running away?" A horrible screeching noise goes off as her duel disk snaps into place. She gives the small boy a wicked smile. "It's okay, I'll just kill you off! That way, you don't need to worry about this event at all~♥"

She points at him aggressively. "Why don't you start us off? Or maybe... you prefer to just forfeit instead?"
Having a 40 card main deck is only important to those who believe in things like "card advantage" or "deck thinning" or "geometric probability" instead of THE HEART OF THE CARDS.

I can tell already that Elly is going to make many enemies.

2nd option it is.

If I understand how the RP works correctly, I initiate a battle with an NPC you control now, correct? Everyone else seems busy with their own duels, and I don't think I know enough about what's actually happening in them to try to intrude.
Plus, if I entered a duel with too many students in it at once, the temptation to pull out some grade-A bullshit would be overwhelming.
Lysette, Riss and Sirius

"Chump -nothing personal- and I are headed to the mines, tell Sirius for me."

Shor’s sudden exit with Kubo wasn’t too surprising. She always seemed to do things the way she wanted them to.

With Sirius off fetching Riss, and without knowing how long it would take in order to coax him outside, Lysette retreats to her room in order to assemble her gear. Collected over the years, she had a pair of swords, numerous throwing knives, and a simple bag to carry her items on the go. Once her equipment is set, she returns to the cafeteria to wait for Sirius and Riss.

Sirius notices that only one member of their original group, Lysette, is still there. Approaching her, he asks, “Where did everyone else go?”

“Shor took Kubo and ran off to the mines, wanted to let you know” Lysette responds with a shrug.

“Okay, then we should get going too,” Sirius replies, “Although we might want to discuss what manabeasts we’re looking for first.” I hope Shor and Kubo will be okay.

“I don’t mind too much what we go for, the only element I’m interested in taking up now other than the ones I’m using right now is Metal. What about you two?”

“Same to Metal, though I’m more interested in Crystal for now,” Sirius responds.

“Looks like we’re heading to the mines too.” Riss declares.

“You never said what you wanted,” Sirius points out.

“I want a lot of things.” Riss rebuts, expression expressionless as ever. “Don’t be selfish, Sirius. Selflessness is a finite resource.”

“I want you to get something out of this too, Riss,” Sirius retorts, frowning slightly.

Riss crosses his arms. “And I will. Sealed artifacts are always useful.”

“I want money” Lysette whispers.

Riss nods. “Yes, Lysette. I agree. Let’s all get Metal, Crystal, and Money artifacts.”

Sirius continues frowning, but reluctantly agrees, “Alright, we’ll head to the mines then. Is everyone good to go? I personally need to grab stuff from my room first.”

Riss reveals a plain beige backpack. He reveals it by taking it off his back and holding it up. How it went unnoticed before now is hard to say. He should have been a Darkness Mage. “I grabbed everything I could need when you weren’t looking.”

“Alright, I’ll go pack up really quick,” Sirius states, “Do you want to meet up at the train station?”

“Sounds fine to me, don’t take too long” Lysette says before setting off toward the nearest stop. “C’mon Riss, let’s go.” Riss follows, and the two walk in comfortable silence. Minutes pass and they eventually arrive at the train station without having said a word to each other. After readying tickets, they sit down on a bench and wait for Sirius.

Eventually Riss looks at Lysette and Lysette meets his stare. He ate a cat! Lysette internally screams. Riss makes a piss-poor attempt at conversation. “You like money?” Lysette blinks several times before looking away and pretending she never heard anything.

Back in his room, Sirius scoops up a light green backpack and packs medical supplies -- it wouldn’t do if someone bled to death. The mines would probably be poorly lit, but his Light abilities compensated for that. He stuffs some snacks into another pocket, bringing extra in case Riss or Lysette got hungry too. Water would be essential as well, considering they’ll be out for a while. Sirius hefts the backpack experimentally to make sure it wouldn’t be too heavy to carry around. The bag was of moderate weight, but things would balance out even with added reagents if the food and water were consumed. Finally, Sirius straps a straight sword to his waist and heads off to the train station.

When Sirius arrives, he finds Lysette and Riss sitting on a bench together. “Hey! Did you guys get along while I was gone?”

Riss and Lysette share a sidelong glance before Riss replies. “Best Friends.”

“A real bonding experience” She adds.

“Great! I’m glad you two could become friends with each other,” Sirius exclaims happily.

The arrival of the train graciously interrupts any follow-up to Sirius’s comment.

The corridors of the mines winded and weaved without rhyme or reason. Minecart rails jutted out of the ground irregularly, showing the mine’s age prominently. The air was stale and heavy with the promise of manabeasts lurking in the depths.

An orb of light bobs besides Sirius, illuminating the surrounding area. The place seemed a bit suffocating for his taste, but he’d have to get used to it. The mines were the most consistent source of Metal and Crystal manabeasts after all. He could sense the faint flickers of light up ahead from the torches lining the wall.

What bothered Lysette was that dust seemed to linger in the air long after it was disturbed, and using wind to shift it away only seemed to raise more into the air. Trying to breathe in the air was a mistake. Activating her enhanced smell only threw her into a fit of coughs to dispel the foul odors.

Sirius looks over, “Are you okay?” Lysette squints at Sirius, who was a blinding figure with the light orb nearby.

“Debt.”

“Debt?”

“Debt.”

It didn’t seem like Sirius was going to get anything else out of the girl, so he drops the subject. He then checks to see how Riss is coping with the unpleasant environment. Riss seems fine. Too fine, really.

“Where do we find the manabeasts? Kick over a rock? Blow a whistle?” Lysette asks, eager to blow her safety whistle.

“That might be a good idea, why don’t you try it out? I’ll keep an eye out for anything else that approaches,” Sirius comments.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Lysette blows the whistle, letting out a shrill noise that sounded awfully louder inside the mines compared to the outdoors. “Can I do it again?” She asks after a few seconds of silence.
@the book of bad juju
A possibility. That would make 4 decks.

At 10 decks, maybe she'll ascend.
@KOgaming
Thanks.

Ironically, I thought Crime and Punishment were more appropriate than Slacker and Downerd Magician. They both use whip-like strings and have themes of sadism against helpless (incarcerated?) victims. (dolls)

I'm fine removing them, though the main reason I added them is so that she can ridicule others for not having a fat extra deck, which is the same reason she has a small main deck of exactly 40 cards. (Both of these being tactically advantageous) though I could get away with her simply claiming that it's a handicap.

Which do you think is more appropriate?
Technically 11/15 cards of her extra deck are XYZ, but I figure that since she'll probably be using fusion more, (mostly in her Shaddoll deck) and how XYZ is expected to be in most decks of every house that Neos House was more suitable.

Should I change it?
Finally finished with a proper character. Well, at least with one deck.

I'm aware. The Legendary Fisherman's effect itself is centered around Umi, and water support is generally better than wind support.

Regarding Fire Fists, I don't like just picking archetypes. To me, just picking up random archetypes you're unfamiliar with is like making a cookie cutter deck. Even if I get to learning the card effects and how they work together, the actual flavor doesn't really appeal to me.

I've been PMing KOgaming, and we've been discussing things to that effect. (Gameplay thematicism vs. Monster and flavor thematicism)

I've bought up a lot of decks that mainly focus on the first; manners of elegantly getting off certain gameplay goals and cards that help make that happen. Instead of saying "this character is whimsical, you can tell by how they use the monster Baobaboon." I can say "this character is whimsical, you can tell by how they seem to do something dumb or suicidal every turn only to reveal it's to their benefit."

Granted, this comes at the expense of the thematicism of their cards overall, which is a valid point, but saying I'm not going to find a gameplay style to match their personality but I'll find an archetype that stylistically matches them seems disingenuous, but that's just my opinion.
rip you found it.

Crow Goblin has the same stats as The Legendary Fisherman, but without an effect. It was meant to be an example of how subjective balance is in terms of "wow these cards are nuts, if I make custom cards to compete with them, they also need to be nuts!"

I'm kind of having a hard time deciding how to put things together, and it encapsulated my dilemma.
I'd like to pose a hypothetical.

Let's say I wanted to make an archetype around this card, Crow Goblin:

So I submitted this card:

Crow Goblin, the Croblin Overlord
Level 7 WIND Winged-Beast effect monster
2500 ATK / 2000 DEF
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by Tributing 1 "Crow Goblin", and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. When this card is Special Summoned: You can banish all monsters your opponent controls, also this card cannot attack this turn. Cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects, also unaffected by Spell/Trap effects. Once per turn: You can return as many of your opponent's banished cards as possible to the Graveyard, and if you do, the first battle or effect damage your opponent takes this turn becomes doubled.

Balanced or not balanced?
