Étoiles had been researching books and scrolls about water magic, seeing as one of the soldiers of the Parliament had learned fire spells; she had to show them who was boss, after all. That's all Ettie had been doing, besides talking to friends and rebels as she studied. She hadn't gotten far in her course, and was trying to learn as much as she could. Until an unknown man started talking to her.
She was going to ignore him, until he made a comment about her damn failure. That's all she ever heard: "Wow, nice going, Étoiles." "You feeling good about what you did?" "Do you know how many soldiers died because of you?"
She slammed her book down on the table, sending an icy glare towards him. "Make one more comment about that fight," she whispered, her voice cold, "and I'll drown you." She opened the book back up with a bite of her lip. Of course she felt guilty about that fight, but would they have done any better without a captain? She was freaking tortured, and no one cared that she bit her lip through the pain and didn't say a word?
She made a small noise similar to a snort at the thought. Of course they didn't care; they didn't
