Name: Maira Corra (used to be Kando)
Age: 29
Appearance: Bio: There was a time when I was fearless. There was a time when I was so devoted to the code I lived by that nothing could shake my resolve, and no force in this universe could stop me from accomplishing my goals and dreams. I was a member of the Jedi order; defenders of all that was good, despised by scum, and hailed by those whom we had helped. In battle, we were the elites. We were the force that struck fear into the hearts of anyone foolish enough to support the separatists, the ones they sent when clones weren't quite enough to finish a job, and the final defense against chaos.
But more than that, we were a family.
When one came back to the temple after a mission, you were surrounded by people who shared your ideals, and people you'd known for years. Masters would give you a warm smile and words of commendation, sometimes asking a few questions about the mission to ensure all was well. After all, I had been a very new addition to the ranks of Jedi Knight, so they would want to keep tabs to make sure I was handling the new position well and keeping the right mindset. Younglings would often swarm around you, excitedly asking questions, buzzing with curiosity and pride at their comrade- their brother or sister -who had just come from a daring adventure. I remember sometimes bringing back a few mementos for the younglings. One of my favorite past times was sitting in when Master Yoda was conducting a class, reminiscing about when I had been in their shoes. He was always very involved with all of us, but he paid a very special attention to the little ones. The palace had always been a peaceful place. It was home, and inside it was everything and everyone I held dear.
There was a time when I was fearless, but then everything I knew burned.
The clones were given a message. They were told to execute order "66," and then they all turned on us. I still can't fathom how they could turn on one of their own team, someone who they had fought and bled with in the heat of battle, but I suppose none of that matters now. They started massacring the Jedi. I ran, trying desperately to make it back to my ship, and back to the temple. Maybe this was still an isolated incident, and if it was, someone needed to tell the council what had happened so they could warn the others before it was too late. However, when I finally reached Coruscant, I was greeted with the sight of smoke and fire rising up from the spires of the Jedi Temple. It was already too late. I can still remember trying to keep myself calm, panic threatening to claw it's way up my throat as I ran into the burning place I once called my home, only to be choked by the repulsive scent of burning flesh. I had tried to find survivors, but all I found were the massacred bodies of my family.
I abandoned my ship, knowing they could track it and find me. It would be best to have them think I died in the fire. I stayed on Coruscant, but fled far away from the temple, avoiding clones and the government whenever I could. The universe was going to change. All around the news was that the republic was dead, along with all of the Jedi, and the Empire was on the rise. I took the opportunity of the change of government to make a new identity for myself. No longer was I Maira Kando, Jedi Knight. Now I am Maira Corra, just a normal, average person trying to get along just like everybody else.
Or at least, that's what I told myself when I first started out. For the first two years of my new life, I did actually manage to do a pretty good job of keeping my head down and staying relatively unnoticed. I took some odd jobs here and there, made some allies and "friends," got a little community of people that knew me and didn't mind giving me stuff to do, it was alright. Then I discovered the wonderful gift to this world that is brandy. Now, mind you, I'm not a drunk. I have enough self control to keep myself from going that far. However I
have become rather well known in some of the local cantinas, and have been involved in a few fights there as well.
Unfortunately, it seems I outstayed my welcome on this planet. Spies from the Empire somehow found out about who I used to be, and now I am on the run again, hoping to escape the fate that my comrades met.
Personality: In her younger years, Maira was very bubbly and warm, and very empathetic to those around her. However as the years have wore on, the pain and guilt have rubbed her soul raw until she has chosen to lock away her emotions and cover them up with a sarcastic, blunt, and cold persona. She has spent many a night wondering what she could have done different, and how these alternate realities might have turned out had she just seen it coming. If she'd flown faster. If she'd fought harder.
If, if if.Of course, this way of thinking gets her nowhere, and so she represses it as much as she can. Her life has become a never-ending cycle of distracting herself from her own emotional numbness, and then trying her best not to completely crumble whenever she can't. She has also become a bit of an insomniac. Her dreams are often haunted by fire and screams, so she does her best to just... not sleep. She gets the minimum hours needed to function, and every now and then she'll even have a restful few nights of sleep, but it never lasts.
To people she knows, she is a little off-putting, but still relatively polite and laid back, if not apathetic. As long as you don't go out of your way to make her life harder, she doesn't put effort into being rude to you. If one manages to gain her trust, they might be able to pull a ghost of the once-caring and warm individual out of her. She is fiercely loyal, and very focused when she puts her mind to a task.
Equipment: A blaster that she wears on her hip, and a concealed lightsaber. She almost never uses it, unless she has no other choice.
Other: N/A
